While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. She resides in North Carolina and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

Juliana Haygert’s The Fire Heart Chronicles is a powerfully wonderful series that gets more complex with each novel - while remaking totally fun. A neat trick to pull off but this author has the talent to do it right. And so we now reach Soul Wanderer (Book 4), and watch as Mirella (barely recognizable from what she was when first met) continues to grow and fight external foes and internal demons. It’s been a great pleasure watching her develop over the course of prior books. That continues now in a book with a wonderfully written plot and a superb cast (to which is added two great new characters, Kane and Trina). Really this is a must read / though you also must read the prior books first. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
The Heart Maiden Chronicles continues off from where it previously left off. With the returning cast of characters and few new ones to add a bit of spice to the storyline you'll definitely keep turning each page. Mirella's continues to struggle with her sanity, and what's worst is her friends have distanced themselves from her. Not only will Mirella have to face new challenges, but also heartbreak. :( This book will not disappoint with twists at every turn, heated moments, and revelations you'll be sure to enjoy it.
I was provided an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Wow! What a ride! Mirella has grown so much since this series started, and with all the emotional turmoil and mental stress, I'm loving this journey with Mirella more and more with every book! The storyline is incredible, the world building is on point and the characters are outstanding! The Heart Maiden Chronicles is riveting, thrilling, well-written and soul consuming.
Oh my gosh it just keeps getting better and better! I am totally shipping Kane and Mirella!!! I keep thinking with each new book for this series things can’t even get more crazy but I’m always proven wrong and let me tell you I am loving every single moment of Mirella‘s story!!! I need to know what happens next pleaseeee!!!! I don’t want to say any spoilers except towards the end I was screaming inside Noooooo I really hope what happened actually didn’t happen to one of the characters.. if so that really is too tragic!!! I highly recommend this series can’t get enough! So good!!!
Amazing fourth book. Kane and Mirella are new characters added to the other outstanding ones. What a wonderful fantasy story that kept me lost in the book until the end. Ready for more.
This is book number four in this story and it is wonderful to read. I am so glad I read this story with strong characters and a wonderful story line to read. I loved this story and can barely wait to see what comes next from this amazing author. I highly recommend this story to everyone, if you but this story you will not be disappointed. This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story.
Words almost fail me. The 4th book in the Fire Heart Chronicles is simply amazing. Mirella gains more confidence in her powers but has to do battle with a previous enemy. But she has 2 new friends now to help. Tense and exciting book that will grab your attention till the very end. Well recommended.
Mirella has heart fever. Her friends have turned their backs on her, Artan betrayed her, and she has distanced herself from her mother. She has never felt so alone. Then Kane, a tzigane shows up from another enclave claiming he came for her. He’s handsome, strong, intense, and makes her feel i a way she never has before. But she needs to be smarter. She can’t fall for another man. She can’t fall for any man. She’s the Heart Maiden and must remain untouched. But she can’t resist him and somehow he makes her fever symptoms disappear. When tragedy hits the enclave and tziganes lose their souls, Mirella and Kane must work with their exes in an attempt to save the enclave.
Please let Kane be on the up and up. I seriously will be done if she gets betrayed again. You would think a boyfriend trying to kill you would be the worst of your dating history but I actually think the alchemist was better than Artan. I can’t decide if he or his grandmother is the worst character in the series. Anyway, Kane seems too good to be true and I hope that’s not the case. Let Trina be the betrayer if Mirella needs another example of a dishonorable tzigane. Once again Mirella saves the day but there’s a loss (although I don’t believe this loss will be permanent) and once again, I’m not sure the enclave deserves her loyalty. She’s been estranged for weeks-months from everyone yet doesn’t hesitate to jump to their aid. She’s more forgiving than I am.
Soul Wanderer: The Fire Heart Chronicles Juliana Haygert
I was provided an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. While I love this series of the Fire Heart Chronicles, and Mirella as the Heart Maiden is an especially exciting character to follow as her powers expand, and as the madness slowly overtakes part of her life and control. The introduction of two new characters in Kane and his Ex-wife Trina who both have special skills and Kane has a special attraction for the Heart Maiden and she for him. A large number of the enclave of Tziganes are possessed and kidnapped and replaced, and the remainders go after some of them to bring them home and having to fight their way out two times losing some more of their members along the way. The shining point is that she finds a gift along the way that helps them heal the possessed Tziganes while making an enemy of another high ranking member of her Enclave with a decision that only she could make. I love the series but if I have one part that disturbed me a bit was the infatuation with her love life which took up a large part of this book. While the book is well written, to me it took an unnecessary extended amount of time in the bedroom that detracted a bit from the story, but overall it's a great addition to the series.
Being the Heart Maiden is hard. After the fiasco of the last mission, Mirella feels the heavy stares of the tziganes in the enclave on top of her own heavy feeling. Now though, a new challenge comes. Not only does an attractive stranger appear in the enclave, but many tziganes end up in some sort of comatose state, having their souls stolen but being alive.. and there is an unknown danger walking around the enclave too. Mirella needs to join forces with Kane, the new arrival, to try and solve the new challenge. Each book brings more information about this magical and deadly world, full of threats like alchemists and revenants and madness. Mirella does not get a break from the emotional onslaught, being constantly forced to change under the circumstances and adapt to new pain. Now with Kane entering the scene her life becomes even more complicated, and there is no end yet in the outlook - none with happy ending at least.
Loved all the plot twists, action and saucy stuff.
I would take a star away just because of ridiculous amounts of typos and grammatical errors but I don't think it would be fair as the story was good. A simple proof reading would have sufficed. I had to report the typos almost every other page on the last quarter of the book. Got really annoying towards the end. I hope it is better in a paperback version. I would demand for a refund if all those mistakes actually got printed out. Seems like I'm reading a school paper.
Mirellla continues on the heals of book 3 with distancing friends and heartbreak. She meets some new characters which add a little spice to book 4 but Mirella continues to entertain the reader. I feel like she's completely transformed from where she was in book 1 and this series is addicting. Thinking there will be an eventual end to the series is sad but that just goes to show what an amazing storyteller Haygert is.
Finally!! At least Mirella got a SMALL break in this book in the form of Kane....I am so happy she got that little respite because clearly Damara is not letting this go...
I can honestly say I didn’t see this one coming...
Mirella and her people are still recovering from the tragedy of her last mission. She’s feeling alone and isolated and her friends all suck.. and then in comes a mysterious stranger who changes everything. Oh and can’t forget the unseen threat to the enclave. Once again despite her best efforts and best intentions the odds are stacked against Mirella. While fighting to save the tziganes she’s also fighting to save herself from herself.
So pretty much Mirella still can’t catch a break. Even when she manages to save the day everything still goes so very wrong. The leader of the newly revealed enemy did not surprise me at all that was rather obvious. However the whole master plan and infiltration was nicely done. Nobody could have seen it coming. Just like Mirella never could have seen Kane coming.
I like Kane. It’s easy to like him and I really hope that he doesn’t have ulterior motives. As this is Mirella’s life it could unfortunately go either way. It is just nice to see someone care more for Mirella the person not Mirella the Heart Maiden. It’s crazy that a complete stranger could come in and see how things really are for her when all the people around her can’t. The tziganes so not treat their Heart Maidens well despite their alleged reverence and importance.
I never in a million years would have expect Mirella’s aggravating secret keeping mother to ever just tell the truth. I dislike her a little less now. I still don’t like Ellie or see the point of her existence and she was only barely around this time. Theron having been one of Mirella’s first real friends is very disappointing especially after their familial connection is revealed. Ramon I did not expect to like but he was the only one loyal to Mirella and tried to be there for her. Not sure how to feel about Trina just yet she’s too new even if she was helpful.
And that brings us to Artan... He is the absolute WORST. Who knew it was possible for him to be a suckier person that his mean grandmother? Apparently it was possible and should he fall off a cliff to a fiery death that would be amazing.
All in all it was another great addition to a series I’m obsessed with. I just want things to world for Mirella and this time they sorta did. This one did have more loss then the pervious ones so it pulls at ye olde heartstrings. As the story goes on it seems like the tziganes don’t really deserve Mirella what with their continued failure to appreciate her, listen to her, respect her. They say she’s special and that they want to treat her that way but actions speak louder than words.
What I do wonder going forward is why do they keep their Heart Maidens from having loves, lives and families? Was this always the case? Or did something happen to make then decide this was a good idea? And did such possibly coincide with the appearance of the sickness plaguing the Heart Maidens? When did the sickness start? So many questions... here’s to hoping the next book will answer them.
Wow! This series just keeps getting better with every book. I don't do spoilers so this will be short. Mirella is fantastic and on the journey of a lifetime. I loved going with her! This world is amazing and I can't wait to get through book 5 and see how it all ends.
Book 4 in the series is full of twists, hurt, drama, and potential new love. As the journey continues, we meet Kane and Trina, 2 tziganes who are going to help Mirella and the enclave with their ongoing battle. During this book a lot of characters I liked turn on Mirella, which makes the arrival of Kane and later Trina a welcome turn of events. The instant connection between Mi and Kane makes me wonder if there is more to the story, I'm ready to jump into the next story to find out!
