The Dark Wood

Rate this book
A young woman trapped in darkness faces a choice--a chance for love or the freedom of light? Stella lives in Noctum, land of eternal night. In Noctum, the stars shine so bright it feels like you can pluck them from the sky, festivals are held for each special moon, and the Northern Lights are worshipped every wintertide. But the darkness hides many sins. Draven, Noctum’s ruthless immortal king, rules behind the protective walls of Caligo. While, outside in Darkwood, Stella and the other forest dwellers live in terror of foul creatures called the Shade. Life in Darkwood is brutal and brief. When her brother, a soldier in the Shadow Guard, is killed, Stella’s hope wanes as the dangers that surround her close in. But stars shine brightest in the deepest dark, and when she witnesses one falling into the black heart of Darkwood, hope arrives in the unlikeliest manner. A stranger named Luc appears speaking of strange, impossible things—of a golden disc called the sun, of lands drenched in light with vivid blue skies, and perhaps most startling of all, he claims that Noctum is under a curse that he has come to lift. To banish the darkness that covers the land, all he has to do is kill Draven. But curses are never easily broken and complications soon arise. Stella finds herself faced with an impossible choice—Luc’s life or the light she so desperately longs for. Because to gain one, she will have to lose the other. ★★★★★ Dangerously alluring, this is a story that will immerse you in its world and leave you wanting more. ★★★★★ This is an unputdownable book. If you love fantasy and world-building and a strong female lead, you will love love love this book. ★★★★★ This book is elegant. That's the best way I can think to describe it, and elegant encompasses the prose, the storytelling, the main character, and the villain. ★★★★★ I could not get enough of this book. Not only is the writing absolutely gorgeous and the characters enticing, the world is fresh, clean, and easy to slip right into. I wish I could turn back time and start reading this book with fresh eyes once again. ★★★★★ Beautifully written love story. I still want to read it even though I finished. It's a book that teaches lessons about life choices within an exciting fantasy world.

Sydney J Mann is an outstanding writer with an obvious relationship with words. I loved the flow of the story, the characters, the world building, and the effect it had on my emotions. I was particularly fond of the character Damian. He teaches resilience and passion, something I live by in my everyday life. I did not take a liking to Stella. I thought she was very indecisive and a little selfish, particularly towards Damian. However, this should not and will not affect my rating, as I can't say I've ever liked ALL of the characters in any particular book!

The ending gave me goosebumps. Why? You will have to read and find out!

An amazing debut for this author and I'll be sure to read any of her future books!

Stella lives in a world of constant night, knowing nothing of a life balanced by day and night. When a mysterious man arrives in her home of Noctum, revealing her land lies under a curse, Stella finds herself battling a choice between love and light.

What a fantastic book! Sydney Mann’s The Dark Wood stole precious sleep from me, but it was worth every tired minute the next day. Mann has created a world of intrigue, danger and passion, the backdrop of a world under constant darkness adding tension every time Stella steps out her front door.

The main characters of Stella, Damian and Luc are strong, engaging people, and I loved the introduction further into the story of Markus and his companions. The evil Draven is a mysterious character who I would love to know more about, and if the author plans on writing a companion book, I’d hope he’d feature. Stella and Damian have some fantastic scenes together, with the love/hate vibe that fizzes between them really fun to read.

There are laugh aloud and tense moments in this book, along with a twist I didn’t see coming which had me shedding a few tears. The ending wraps up the story nicely, but leaves room for a sequel or prequel, which I hope the author is considering.

All in all, I loved this book. It has been beautifully written and the story has stayed with me since I turned the last page. Fantasy fans should definitely give The Dark Wood a try. I found it very difficult to put down and was genuinely sorry to finish.

I’m shook... this story is just aghhhh!! I couldn’t put the book down. 😭😂 the world, the imagery, the main character, the love interests: everything was done so right & so excellently!! I was engaged throughout the whole story & felt so immersed! The only thing I wish was also there was a map to see this beautiful world as I read along. Other than that, this is one of my new favorite stand alones (though i’m hoping for a spin off or a prequel because there are concepts & characters in this world that I just want to learn more about!) Sydney Mann is a master storyteller & if you’re interested in The Dark Wood, don’t hesitate to pick it up!

This wonderful book has turned out to be one of my favourite indie reads of the year. The wonderful writing makes it easy to immerse yourself in the world of Noctum. As one other reviewer has said Darkwood is an incredibly haunting and creative concept - to live your life without light. The world building is particularly well done and makes it easy to join Stella's journey to survival of the fittest. The characters are believable, the romance subtle and sophisticated and the plot fast paced. A thoroughly enjoyable young adult read with a page turner of a plot.

I really enjoyed The Dark Wood by Sydney Mann. I quickly found myself wanting to journey with Stella and cheering for her as she tried to protect herself and those she loved from the many dangers lurking in her world cloaked in darkness. Often in Fantasy novels I feel out of place in a new world but Mann does an amazing job with helping the reader to feel at home in the darkness. The story is fast paced and the writing is beautiful. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get lost in a compelling story about love and sacrifice.

Lovers of the fantasy of Court of Thorn & Roses will reveal in Sydney Mann’s Darkwood. I enjoyed this read more than COTR! To be honest, I didn’t really love the COTR series. I jumped on those books only because everyone was posting about them on IG. Darkwood (and the author) caught my eye on IG as it peaked my interest as Mann does a wonderful job with teasers.

Darkwood is the story of a town cursed by darkness. Stella, our heroine has been born into this never had seen sun or light in the sky. Under the drudgery and drear of a ruthless king who claims women to “feast” on, Stella is a strong protagonist who isn’t your typical YA lead who doesn’t realize her value. She’s snappy, skeptical, and smart. She’s had her fair share of tragedy but pleasantly rises to the occasion when faced with numerous challenges including your standard YA love triangle. Mann had me guessing who would be the victor of her affections until the very last page. I loved that!

It isn’t clear what time period the story takes place in but Mann does a wonderful job painting the picture of a town in the woods, people wear cloaks, carry swords, and attend public executions. She is pretty consistent with her world building but there are just a couple times I felt strayed away from this world (Stella refers to something she did being “lame” and wants to sleep on the “couch”). There are also times characters just simply had the solution or knowledge of key pieces of information which was a bit convenient at times. But hey, it’s fantasy, so I can roll with it.

The characters are distinct and unique and like all curses, there is a way to break this one at an ultimate sacrifice that really tied the entire book together for me. Have a tissue ready. You’ve been warned.

A very impressive debut novel from an exciting new author. The Dark Wood tells the story of Stella, a young woman trapped in a world of eternal night ruled over by an immortal evil king. Life is short, brutal and ugly, as Stella is made tragically aware when her brother is killed by one of the monstrous beings that inhabit the dark wood. Yet hope is also eternal and when Stella sees a flaming shooting star fall to earth one night, she has no idea of the journey she's about the embark on.

I enjoyed the world-building very much in this novel, and congratulate the author on creating a very vivid picture of a broken and corrupt society existing on fear and violence. A real sense of the hopelessness the dwellers of the dark woods exist under was evident, and you can't help but feel their pain and sorrow at the futility of their lives.

The character of Stella is an interesting one, her beauty seen as a curse instead of a blessing because of the constant fear of coming to the attention of the lustful attentions of the king. The other characters are likewise complex and multi-faceted, with those who on the surface appear suspect proving to have hidden depths.

The book is very well-written and is nicely paced throughout, with the plot moving at a decent pace and the author never allowing the tension to slacken. With broad imagery and sharply detailed descriptions, the reader is swept along with the narrative and rapidly becomes part of the story, suffering and rejoicing with Stella and her friends right up until the satisfying, if poignant, ending.

Overall, a tightly woven and intriguing tale that enthrals and engrosses.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It kept me on the edge of my seat and burning through the pages until the early morning hours - I just NEEDED to know how this story ended - and what an ending it was!!

It's about a young woman named Stella who was born and raised in a land cursed with perpetual night. The darkness hides unspeakable creatures and crimes - life here in the Darkwood under the rule of the brutal and immortal king is viciously short. Stella has never seen the daylight, and light of any kind is revered. Festivals are held by her people for the stars, the moon, and the Northern Lights.

A stranger from another land named Luc appears speaking of a land blessed with light, sunshine, and vivid colors. He is tasked with destroying the curse and bringing light to the Darkwood - at the cost of his own life. Stella can't help but fall in love with him and is left with an impossible choice - love, or light...

This is the first book by Sydney Mann and on this evidence I'd read others. The Dark Wood is set in Noctum, a cursed place of perpetual darkness where the grieving Stella has lost her entire family. Into her life drop two opposing men; Damien, the rough, dangerous guard and Luc, a mysterious traveller from a land of light. Soon all three find themselves in a fight to trust one another and break the curse that threatens everyone.
This is a well written and compelling YA fantasy that has considerable crossover appeal. It draws you in and truly makes you care about the characters. I particularly liked the feisty heroine and her two suitors. I even warmed to the 'hideous hound'.
If you like the Sarah J Maas type of writing then you'll enjoy this.

A world of darkness, courageous people determined to survive, a delicate romance that shows love has more depth than just passion. I didn't know what to expect when I started this book, but as a fantasy lover, I got sucked into the world of Noctum almost immediately. I thoroughly enjoyed imagining the world the author created, getting to know the characters, following their daily hardship, and eventually their fight for survival. Mann's writing is beautiful. The imagery she painted perfectly completed the pictures in my head as I read through. I was sad when I reached the end of the book because I wanted a bit more.

A good read

I was drawn into this story and found it hard to put down. The story is filled with characters that I liked and cared about. Certain things could have been fleshed out a bit more, but it wasn’t a huge detriment to the story. Overall this was a satisfying read that I would recommend.

A really enjoyable read with an interesting premise.

It was a little blunt, but in a way that made it super easy to read a lot. Unwanted Protector isn't my favorite trope, but that's personal preference, and things worked out in a way that I was rooting for things by the end. Something about the Draven and Nobles Reveal caught me off-guard, but thinking about it it fits just fine. I was really happy about the Damian Reveal at the end because I was sure that I had caught similarities at the introductions and felt very validated that I had.

I do think, if you're going to read this book, don't read the blurb, or immediately forget it, because it's got a really important spoiler that's a secret until literally the last chapter that you as a reader shouldn't know and that is very purposefully left out of the narrative. You've been warned.

Loved this book! Often I have to give a book 50-100 pages before I really get into it, but his one grabbed me right away. The world and characters were so well developed and the symbolism of light and dark was really beautiful all the way to the nail-biting ending. The pacing was amazing, so much so that I could hardly put it down in wanting to know what would happen next. I'm so glad to have this story sitting on my bookshelf as a treasured favorite as I know I will pick it up again to return to Stella's world of Noctum. This truly is a beautifully written story of adventure, love and sacrifice that you will be so glad you read. Can't wait to read more from Sydney Mann!

A beautiful, dark, rich book full of great conflict, character, and romance! While I was not a big fan of the love that won out - to me, he had many of the classic earmarks of the boundary-breaking, disrespectful "bad boy" with very little change, and I felt the pivot from the gentler, more respectful LI to him was somewhat abrupt and didn't sit well with me - I found every other bit of The Dark Wood an enjoyable, captivating and engaging thrill! Fantastic worldbuilding, great conflict, wonderful inner and interpersonal stakes, a great supporting cast! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend this well-crafted novel!

Beautifully written, a love triangle that satisfied the romance reader in me, and a magical world with a fresh exploration of the dichotomies of good and evil, light and dark, The Dark Wood ticked all the boxes. The main characters are multi-dimensional with relatable strengths and flaws and each page left me wanting more. A definite five star read for me!

An Engrossing Fantasy Tale

This book is great! I thoroughly enjoyed Stellas story and her interactions with the inhabitants of Dark Wood. The world inspired in me a sense of wonder while also maintaining a constant feeling of unease and danger. I won’t spoil it with details but I highly recommend this book to lovers of fantasy!

Dangerously alluring, this is a story that will immerse you in its world and leave you wanting more!

Fear of the dark is innate in all of us. So, imagine what living your entire life in the dark would do to your life, the lives of the ones you love, the place you live. That is precisely the setting of The Dark Wood, in the land of Noctum, where night is endless and there are plenty of terrors in the woods to fear. Not just the woods, really, as the land’s ruler is equally frightening.

Oppressed and living in fear, the residents of the forest have created their own guard in defiance of law. The Shadow Guard does what it can to protect the people, but there are horrors beyond even their ability to manage. Stella Varden knows this intimately, as the story begins with her losing her brother, Erik, during his duties as a Shadow Guard. Stella, however, isn’t a trembling, shrinking violet set only on finding a husband to protect her, despite the pressure to do so. I was immediately drawn to her due to her independence, strong will, and fierce determination to be true to her own thoughts and desires, even if it puts her in more danger. Her spunk is admirable, to say the least, even (or especially) if it gets her in trouble sometimes.

After her brother’s death, she soon finds herself receiving the attentions of the newest member of the Shadow Guard, Damian Dagnatari, who was with her brother when he was attacked. Damian is handsome, mysterious, and undeniably dangerous, though he seems to have made it his mission to protect Stella. Damian’s intrigue and complexity is deserving of its own story (one I truly hope we get!).

As if that weren’t enough, a strange ball of fire in the sky leads Stella down a whole other path with the equally handsome and mysterious Luc, Damian’s seeming opposite in every way. But beyond the love triangle forming, the secrets both men hold will change her, and the Dark Wood, forever.

The beauty of this story isn’t only in its fantastic world-building and plotline which was interesting and full of twists and surprises. I was equally enthralled by Mann’s mastery of description, phenomenal character development, and her alluring writing style that truly complements the genre and tone of the story. I was left wanting more, and not in the sense that anything was lacking, but because this rich, well-built world sucked me in completely. It was a story I couldn’t wait to finish but was devastated once it was over.

I love reviewing indie work—that’s one of the reasons I started The Rebel Christian—but as much as I enjoy supporting indie and self-published authors, I must admit that I’m very particular about reading books from that community. Unfortunately, indie and self-published authors have a very terrible reputation as far as editing and quality goes. There are so many great stories out there, but they fall flat because of poor editing or elementary writing. So, when I was approached by Mann for a review, I had high hopes and high expectations—thankfully, she did not disappoint me.

The Dark Wood is a YA fantasy novel set in a world that is totally void of light. Its really a haunting concept, to live your life in constant shadows, eternal darkness without the sun but Stella has done this every single day of her life. Imagine a world where you are constantly looking over your shoulder, facing an everlasting night full of gripping terrors. Now imagine all of that suddenly being interrupted by a burst of light in the form of a beautiful man.

Stella’s eyes are opened to a new world when she meets Luc, a man who almost seems to be made of light. Through her journeys with Luc, Stella learns there is a light shinning within the darkness of her world, and she sets out to defeat the darkness once and for all. Of course, other characters are introduced along the way, there’s also a love triangle that works really well for me. I’m not one to complain about a good romance, especially if it involves juicy triangles or any other shape!

Although I really enjoyed the romance in this story, my biggest praise goes to the world-building of Darkwood Noctum. First of all, the name Noctum sounds really cool and very mysterious; its fitting for the theme and the storyline. I wish there had been a bit more fleshing out as far as the darkness and the development of the story around it, but it is a YA novel, so I’m willing to let things slide.

Overall, The Dark Wood is an incredibly unique and entertaining story. It will certainly pull you in from page one. The title, the cover art, and the story are all amazing with characters developed enough to hold it all together. I would recommend this book to YA fans and fantasy nerds, plus anyone who likes a well-developed romance.

The Dark Wood is a fun, interesting fantasy book. From the first chapter, the story and developed world pulls you in. Even the cover is beautiful and mysterious, both drawing you in and giving an idea of the amazing story within. Stella, the main character and narrator, is sincere and compelling. Her struggle with loss and survival begin the story, allowing the reader to quickly empathize. However, the introduction of two strangers, she begins to learn secrets about her home and its eternal darkness.
This was such an exciting book! One of my favorite things were the characters. Characters are really important for me in books and all the characters in The Dark Wood were amazing. Stella was strong and stubborn, but cared deeply for her family and friends. She was really trying to consider those around her. Luc and Damian were the two other main characters. They were also both Stella’s love interests, and are essentially strangers to her in the beginning. They are very different from one another. Luc is sweet and more light and cheerful. He came to for a reason, and he truly believes in what he is doing. Damian is more closed off, slightly harsher, and very determined. Stella finds both of them intriguing and has feelings of attraction for both. There were many twists in the story that I was not expecting. The secrets and surprises that Stella learns are also very surprise to the reader, which makes it even more exciting.
The only thing that I didn’t like about this book was that there wasn’t a sequel! Though there was a lovely ending, I still wanted to see more. More of the characters, maybe a spinoff of other lands or other side characters. The world was so large that a single book didn’t feel like enough.
I would recommend this book for those who like fantasy, adventure, and a little romance. It is a book for an older audience, teens and up. It is clean, but a bit darker in themes. It is super exciting and fun!

I loved this book. I mean, I literally read it in ONE DAY! It was so much fun and the world was so wonderfully done.

The Dark Wood is about a young girl who lives in a world where it is always night, always dark, and there is a very strict divide between those who live in the cities and those faced with braving the forest. Not only does the constant darkness provide really rich and detailed descriptions of people and things in the dark that I haven’t seen used before, it provides a really deep, ominous mood. Additionally, there were so many details and pieces that were brought in that it was clear that Sydney had spent a lot of time connecting details and spinning this world together because it all made sense in the end, but never felt overwhelming or boring.

The action was fast-paced and kept me in constant worry about whether Stella was going to fall prey to the cruel and mysterious ruler. Also, the way that Stella’s love life became tangled in with all of it was perfect and had me rooting for one particular character. Let’s just say I’m a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope.

This book also presented a great character in Stella who was independent, resilient, passionate, and cunning. It was such a fun, thrilling ride to see how her story played out and even to the final page, I was left guessing and hoping and did not put the book down disappointed.

I just finished this one. I'm not one to often review books so let me write one while it's still fresh in my mind.

I thoroughly devoured this book. As my first paranormal romance novel, this became quite good company for me. Mann writes beautifully and page after page, I was taken away, meeting characters and witnessing blitz after blitz and back and forth repartee between Stella and Damian. Not going to lie, I loathe men like Damian, but something had me quietly rooting for him like a shameful spectator cheering for the underdog at a football away game... Even when Luc came into the picture! I adored Luc in every way imaginable, and I adored him even more when I read his letter to Stella. But I remained quietly hopeful for Damian and Stella to happen and I can't help but believe that the author did, too. If this book made me feel that way, to me that explains a lot about the story/characters itself. To say I enjoyed this book as though I were a fly on the wall (or on Stella's shoulder) is not enough. I loved the surprises, delighted in the dialogue and grew inspired and hopeful after each chapter. I was afraid, thinking the epilogue would end with Stella and Damian together by default, but it was written so wonderfully and thoughtfully, that it didn't beg for another ending. I swear, I've dreamed about places like Noctum and conversed with men like Elias. This is a must-read!

I finished this book a few nights ago, and I want to say so much about it. But I also don’t want to spoil it. This is the kind of book you read and then find yourself explaining all the characters and plot to someone.

Stella lives in Noctum, a land of night. As in, never the sun shall rise. While I had a few questions about how this might actually play out (a land of forever night), they could easily be swept under the reader rug of “it’s fantasy, go with it.” And Sydney does a gorgeous job of writing into the mystery and adventure that living in a land that’s always dark might cause.

Into this already mysterious landscape step two men, both mysterious in different ways. I did think I’d have to push through despite annoyance at some sort of love triangle, but I was so pleasantly surprised by how it all played out and the way the characters approached relationships and the challenges before them.

The Dark Wood is also full of fun side characters, including Stella’s friends, and mysteries such as the Shade, which are creatures that terrify the people of Darkwood and are very difficult to slay. There’s also an evil king who seems like an insurmountable enemy and a number of laws meant to keep the people oppressed.

If you enjoy this type of fantasy, this indie author is definitely worth it. Go buy this one now.

I loved this story! It was way different from anything I normally read. It had me hooked from the start. I found myself reading every chance that I got. I had no idea what was going to happen in this story. It is full of surprise after surprise. Stella is an independent woman in a world where it isn't too safe for her to be unmarried and living alone. She has friends who care for her. And now Damien, who worked with her brother, is convinced she needs him. He just wants to protect her but she doesn't want anything to do with him. The attraction she feels towards him scares her and she treats him like she can't stand him so she doesn't have to think about it. Then a stranger enter her life and turns it upside down. Pretty soon she is hiding secrets and making risky choices. Then one of those choices causes her life to be in danger. Now her usually uneventful life is full of adventure and she has to depend on people she doesn't want to, accepts truths she doesn't want to accept and her decisions affect all those in her life. I just can't express enough how much I loved this story. I felt like I was along for the adventure with Stella. This story had me feeling it completely. I suggest this to all action and fantasy fans. This will quickly become one of your favorite stories, I guarantee it.

This is an unputdownabe book. If you love fantasy and world building and a strong AF female lead, you will love love love this book.

Sydney Mann does an amazing job building a world where it is never light. Stella, our main character has only known darkness and danger.

The characters Mann gives us are complex and grow well. Stella is stubborn, independent and talented. Damian is mysterious and dark, yet there is something else there.

Here is what I loved:
1. Writing style was on point.
2. The characters were complex and grew throughout the book.
3. The titles of the chapters were so enticing. It seems like such a little thing, but the titles made me say, "just one more chapter."
4. The plot was very well laid out. Sydney Mann successfully shocked me a couple times in the book and I couldn't believe what I was reading.

Here's what could have been better:
1. The ending felt a little rushed, I wanted more. The pace was really good throughout the book then the last couple of chapters, everything happened so fast.
2. I wanted more of the story after the epilogue. Although the ending was perfect, I selfishly wanted more, more, more.

Will light overcome dark? Will Stella find happiness? Read it now to find out, I'm so glad I found this book.

This is my first foray into the fantasy genre and Sydney Mann did not disappoint. She had me enveloped in the world of Noctum within the first few pages. I became completely invested in her main character, Stella and the reality she lived in. Noctum is always in perpetual darkness with the exception of a full moon and occasionally the Northern Lights. Not only did it's inhabitants have to find their way through the darkness but avoid predators, human and inhuman. Longevity is not something Noctum's inhabitants enjoy. However a gleam of hope comes to Stella and she soon finds herself questioning her own heart and instincts. The imagery takes you to this other world and allows you to envision it without the details being overly descriptive. The characters come across as authentic and I could feel myself cringing and holding my breath at certain moments in the novel. Overall it was a great read that kept me up well past my bed time because I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend it.

I loved this book: I couldn't put it down! It was beautifully written and captivating from start to finish. It is a word feast, with such description, that I felt like I was there. It was my first time reading YA Fantasy and definitely not my last. In fact, I will be reading this again, just to enjoy the words. I rarely read a book more than once! The action-packed story draws you in and propels you through surprising twists and turns. I loved the themes of light and darkness, forgiveness and unconditional love. I loved how the main character, Stella, has the courage to keep going even in the face of hopelessness. The Dark Wood is an epic story that I hope to see on the big screen one day! I can't wait to read the sequel!

I'm not sure where to begin with this one, so I think I'll just break it down by elements.
Pacing: a little slow, but steady throughout. I didn't feel the urge to read it in one sitting, but there weren't long lulls either.
Characters: flawed, but that did make them interesting. Normally Damian would be just my type, but there were some things about him--especially his temper--that made me uneasy.
Plot: I could have used more action scenes and more of the villain, but otherwise I liked the concept and execution. I did have some logistics questions. I just couldn't stop asking myself about how spending 3000 years in the dark would affect evolution and a few other things.
Romance: it was cute and a little unexpected how relationships developed. And I was satisfied with the way it all ended.

This book is elegant. That's the best way I can think to describe it, and 'elegant' encompasses the prose, the storytelling, the main character, and the villain. The pacing throughout is incredibly steady. It never feels like sprinting, and it NEVER drags: it is a wonderfully paced novel that will keep you turning page after page. There is romance, (prepare to absolutely SWOON, ladies), there is danger, intrigue, and gut-wrenching drama. But perhaps best of all, readers will be treated to a fully self-sufficient, good-hearted, brave, strong, determined, l i k e a b l e, female lead. Thank you Sydney Mann for writing this book!

THE LIGHT VS. DARK - IN EVERY SWOON-WORTHY SENSE.

The Dark Wood is very captivating. Sydney leaves me gripping the pages every time I turn them. I'm literally fighting for the characters. Stella, is very independent but so relatable in most ways. She's sassy, but knows when to keep quiet and she's torn between two extremely hot men. One who's looked upon as dark and mysterious, the other light, open and caring.

The Dark Wood world is amazing! The way she uses light and dark, in contrast, is very smart. I loved everything about this book and I swear, as fantasy goes, you'll love it too!
