Angelica Pearson is taking a serious break from dating. At least, she thought she was taking a serious break from dating until she comes face-to-face with the finest man she’s ever seen who also happens to be the new maintenance man in her building. Angie knows what she wants in a man. And outside of his good looks, his natural charm, and his ability to make all of her apartment woes go away, Lawson isn’t that. But that doesn’t mean she can’t get to know him, right? Lawson Hill is completely focused on rebuilding his life now that he’s a free man. That rebuild doesn’t include getting involved with anyone, especially not the bougie girl at his job who always needs something in her apartment fixed. From her high-maintenance appeal alone, he can already tell she’d be nothing but a headache to deal with. But when Angie proves there’s a lot more to her than what meets the eye, Law quickly learns he’ll be doing a lot more than just replacing air filters and light bulbs in Building 402… While this book tells a complete story, it is a novella meaning it is shorter in length by design. If you prefer your stories longer, I’d highly recommend checking out another Alexandra Warren project.

I knew that I'd love this book when Lawson appeared in the first one, like I said he stole the show there and I'm glad he got his own now with Angie.
They're the cutest couple, I love how they can laugh together, but also be serious together. They're both amazing characters, and I desperately need a longer book about them.
How are they? What are they doing now? Are they married? Do they have babies? I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS.
My favourite in the series so far, I don't think the others can beat it.
Yet another cute story! I am enjoying these novellas.
Angie was a real estate agent that was about her business. She had been off men focusing on herself and her goals, but after seeing the new maintenance man she was questioning that logic. Lawson was "black panther fine" which damn that sounds top tier lol.
Lawson was at a transition point in his life and found himself starting over. He was focused on getting his life back on track after making sacrifices for his family. He was ready to date, although Angie was gorgeous she gave stuck up vibes and he felt like he wasn't her type.
I loved that these two went a bit out of their comfort zone and were able to find something worth pursuing. I would love to read their full story.
I enjoy a good don’t a book by its cover love! 4.5 ⭐️
I love when an author can write a lowkey controversial trope without me feeling a way about it. Angie is a real estate agent with her mind set to accomplish her goals and Law is the new fine maintenance lead at her building. Obviously, we all knew Law was going to be fine but could Angie look past his career and past to let him take her to new levels on her goal list is the real question. Let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed at all! I loved their banter and her “seducing him” lmao. Another fun story in this 402 building! I can’t wait to read who’s next!
So, this was book two of the 402 novella series, and might I add, it was pure dope. A straight high flying good read. AW's Maintenance Man was so hot. The guy could give Michael Baisden's guy a run for the money in looks alone. The d print and his performance, I'm just saying. Then she gave reader's a boss lady heroine to make a sister proud. The story had a great vibe and I'm chomping at the bit for novella three....
Alex does it again with creating these characters we all want to have relationships with. Lawson is an amazing human being period. To do what he did for his brother is unconditional love and to not be bitter after is just amazing. Angie really was a genuine and kind person. I wonder about her friendship with Brandi but I’m sure we will find out the real about her sooner or later. She doesn’t live in Building 402 but with all the screwing she does there, she might as well pay rent. LOL
ANGIE AND LAW love Angie and Lawsons story. They have that opposites attract but lets forget all that and see where things lead us vibe. It was really nice to see that Angie decided to be more open in realizing what she needed versus what she can get materialistic wise from a man. This building is becoming the best place to live, not only for the drama but also finding the perfect mate. Can't wait for what's in store for Monte and Nic.
Very good addition to the series. I loved Angie and Law but I def felt 2nd hand embarrassment when she went for it and mistakenly showed her privates to the new maintenance man. 😂 that shit would've had me moving out of my place. What can I say about Law? Dude is a stand up guy. The best guy. What he did for his brother? Damn. That's sacrifice. Respect to Angie for hearing Law's story rather than turning her nose up at him.
Law and Angie find out how could things can be when you move beyond your assumptions. They hit it off in more ways than one and found a replacement for what they needed instead of what they wanted when they pushed each other out of their comfort zone. Now, I'm ready for Mont and Nic.
This 2nd book in the series introduced opposite characters that at first had me wondering if they could last. Angie was a straight up demanding type of female that didn't hold back. Law was more laid back but could hold his own as Angie soon found out. Enjoyed reading as these 2 found their compatibility & made the best of it
Queen Alexandra really did her thang with part 2 to this Building 402 novella series. Law and Angie challenged each other to step outside of their norm and go for what they didn't know they needed, instead of what they usually settle for. I couldn't get enough of these 2 and their family and friends. I hated when it ended😢. Looking forward to reading the next installment💕
This is a reread for me. The first time around, I gave it three stars. I liked it more this time, but I figured out what the issue was for me. I struggle with books when I don’t like the leading lady. I did not like Angie. Her high maintenance Real Estate Barbie persona was annoying to me. I felt like she made things more difficult than they needed to be. Fortunately, Law was very likable. He made it an entertaining story. I’m enjoying going back to this series now that it is available on audio.
I think this novella will work for a lot of people, it just wasn't my favorite. I loved so much about it but somehow all put together it didn't work for me. So, reasons you may like this: If you really like opposites attract romance, this is a great pick. If you love Alexandra Warren's humor and community, this novella definitely has that too. I also really liked the representation of having Law being recently out of jail. I also like Angie, judgment and bougieness and all. And Law is not only hot as hell, but he's such a great uncle and I loved that.
But, I think, for me, I am SUCH a stickler for rules and also the idea of seducing my maintenance man while he's on the job is horrifying. Like, he's at work! You don't want to cost him his job! I don't know. I think where I'm at personally in my life at this specific moment had me too stressed about that aspect of the romance because jobs are precarious! Anyway, I really do think if you're less neurotic than I am, this will not bother you the way it did me.
This one was a bit rough for me. The story couldn't keep me. But I pushed through.(not disappointed). I'm not sure I how felt about Angie's lust for Law in the beginning. Although I see and understand how stuff like that is, I still wasn't a fan of her approach about it. It was evident that Lawson didn't seem like he was into her at all in the beginning, but it did eventually change. Angie spend a lot time lusting after Law, but I didn't get that at all from him. The chemistry was a bit off. It was physical. What I appreciate the most about this story is how real it is. All the events in this are super real. I did enjoy reading about Lawson and Angie.
The attempt to seduce Law that backfired had me dying laughing lol
Where is my Law?? Because he is definitely my new book bae to add to the collection!! I loved the lightness of this story. The sacrifice Law made for his brother made him even more attractive. I need some info on Ms. Brandi cause she's coming off in a bad light after how she came off to Eve in the first novella. I can't wait for the next one about Monte and Nicole!! This was a great read for a cloudy and on and off rainy Saturday!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this second part of the Building 402 series! I don’t know what it is that is really making these novelas enjoyable to me, but they’re so cute and full of real life drama that I’m connecting to the characters. So often we read these stories of people who don’t seem real (obviously they’re not) that its refreshing to read about a girl who’s living in a crappy ish apartment and the new maintenance guy who’s got his own rocky background, connect. Sexy, funny, dramatic, this one is definitely a winner.
Hmmmm, there were definitely comical moments. However, I didn’t care for Angie. ..she’s superficial & judgmental🥴😡. However, “Replacement: A Building 492 Novella- Book 2 of 4” earned my respect and its’ rating solely because of Lawson Hill’s aka “Law” and his admirable character only. He demonstrated the love for his twin brother (and family) superseded and transcends logic, creature comforts and the stigma associated with being a convicted felon😲‼️ To still sacrifice everything & scrutiny…there’s still honor among thieves. 👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿
After reading both Building 402 novellas,my only question is, can I live there too? This was a real good short read! And the more novellas I encounter, the more I'm encouraged to add more to my reading list. They're great for quick entertainment. So far I've enjoyed everything I've read from this author. And am looking forward to reading more of her work. Loved Law, and his backstory. And Angie proved you can't judge someone on appearance alone.
What a great story about a white and blue collar couple that is so different in appearance and in some character traits as well, but are the same in many other ways. I'm glad that Angie let her dominant demeanor take over to pursue Mr. Lawson. I love that Lawson took a chance and didn't let the outside of the book be his first impression of Angie, but took a chance to let her true spirit inside outshine her cover. Loved It! Great Read! ReneeG 👍
I wasn’t feeling this one as much as the other two in the series. I started it in October and paused bc I couldn’t get into it. After reading book three and enjoying it so much I decided to give book two another go. And though it held my interest more this time than the last, it wasn’t by much. I just wasn’t feeling Lawson and Angie’s connection.
I won’t love ever book by an author, including one of my faves but that won’t keep me from trying others that she’ll drop.
I enjoyed reading Lawson and Angelica's story. Angie was different from what I expected her to be. I was expecting stuck up and hard to get along with but she was cool. Loved Lawson he was a sweetheart. He seemed a little shy or unsure of himself with his past. But I'm glad they figured things out. They were a cute couple. I just wish they had more interactions with each other.
This was a wonderful example of opposites attract. I loved loved loved Lawson. I have to admit I wasn’t to sure about Angela at first☺️however I was really happy with the way turned out. I have really enjoyed these first two books in this series. I have to say that so far this has been my favorite perhaps because of the insight that was shared about Lawson and his past. Nothing like a brother’s love. Worth reading
Law a real man through. And I'm glad Angie wasnt as stuck up as she appeared. This book gives truth to a meaning you cant judge a book by its cover. While law was so quick to judge angie she gave him the benefit of the doubt and just wanted what was in his pants lol. A great can't wait to see what Nic and Monte bring.
I love a good opposites attract story and this is one!!! Angie and Law had sizzling chemistry from the very beginning and I loved watching them get past themselves to really enjoy each other. Building 402 has become my new favorite series! I love, love, LOVE the little glimpses we are of the other residents. Already hype to read Monte and Nic's story!
I can't say the last time I read two books in one day in a matter of hours. That's what happens when you come across a skilled, unique author such as this one. Skipped dinner and everything. This book was definitely more subtle than Adjacent. Less funny and more love and family based. However, excellent detail, and excellent editing in this one as well. .
