I enjoyed understanding more of Rex Dalton as he does have fear and cares for those he works with. Finding himself in a horrible position, with only Trevor's dog, Digger, as company, he is forced to push himself to exact revenge on whoever was involved in a devastating blast.
We also learn of those in the USA involved in keeping the drug lines open, through any means possible! Things go high into the government, to senators and high-ranking officials who have no idea of things that really go on. Brandt, the head of Dalton's agency, is heart-broken when hearing of all eight men involved in a recent attempt to kill drug leaders at a meeting were killed! He can't believe Rex is gone! But there is always something niggling at his mind, he really can't be gone...
A good story with interesting concepts and great scenes, I just felt the ending was too much like turning the page to a brick wall. Ended abruptly with no finish to what was going on. I realize more books are coming but I think this ending was a little much. Hence the 4 STARS...

The Power of Three picks up right where The Fulcrum, Book 1 on the Rex Dalton Thiller series leaves off, so go back and read The Fulcrum if you haven’t already read it. Although it can be read as a novel in its own right, The Fulcrum is more a prequel to the complete Rex Dalton Thriller Series. In it, we meet and learn about many of the characters that will come to play key roles in all the future Dalton thrillers. We learn about the pivotal event that turns a meek, mild future Foreign Officer into the deadly, expert assassin that Rex becomes. Although Ryan weaves enough of this back story into each of the future books so they can be read and enjoyed in any order, it’s nice to have the whole backstory going into the series and to discover it as it happens in present time.

The Power of Three begins when Rex is sent to Afghanistan on a fact finding mission. He is to gather information on the drug trade and then report that information to the CRC and the CIA, but take no action against them. When nothing seems to happen with the information he provides, he teams up with his Aussie friend and his K-9 Digger to take out some targets on his own. When the DCIA (Director CIA) gets wind of this, he gets “The Old Man, the head of the CRC, to send Rex on a fake mission that is an ambush that gets Rex’s entire team killed. They killed everyone except for Rex and Digger. With his last dying breath, Trevor makes Rex swear to take care of Digger. Rex and Digger become a team, partners, although reluctant partners at the start because of Rex’s childhood fear of dogs. Rex learns to overcome his fears and they become true partners, best friend, friends who would willingly die to protect the other.

Rex and Digger take on new missions. First, to track down and kill all those that were directly involved in the ambush that caused the death of their friend. Rex knows that he was set up, so he fakes his own death and goes underground, swearing to track down and kill all those responsible for it in the United States, and to kill them very painfully, no matter how long it takes.
Once again, Rex finds himself all alone in the world, just as he had eleven years earlier, when his entire family was killed in a terrorist bombing. He has no one left to care about or to care about him, except for Digger. This time it is even worse because there’s nothing for him to join in order to fight back. No military, no spec ops group. Even worse still, he has to country to return to.

While Rex contemplates his and Digger’s future after they track down and take out the drug lords that ordered the ambush that killed all their friends, “The Old Man” gives the DCIA, Carlson, an alternative, leave town by sundown or be killed for being a traitor, for getting eight good men killed to protect his interest in the drug trade. Does he leave town? Does he stay and fight back? Is he killed? You’ll have to read this book to find out.

This installment in the Rex and Digger saga ends with Rex planning to start a new life with Digger in India. A life that doesn’t involve terrorists and death. Will they be able to find such a life? You’ll need to read this series to find out what happens to Rex and Digger, to find out what the future holds in store for them.

an exciting adventure!

Is it weird that Digger was my favorite character? Seriously this was a good story with well developed characters. Well worth the read!

This is the second book in the Rex Dalton Thriller series and takes Rex from past his training and first few missions, to a long stint on a mission in Afghanistan. For this mission, he is only to report back intelligence on drug operations, labs, drug lords and the like, regarding the opium trade. He gets to meet up with an old colleague, Frank, who he hadn’t seen for about eight years, since his basic training. He also makes a new one in Aussie SpecOps soldier called Trevor and his dog Digger, who makes a monumental impact on Rex. The close link between the dog and his mate are amazing and it seems like Digger can understand humans completely and follows his handlers every command.

Rex is based at a safe compound, when not out in the streets or countryside checking out for opium and heroin stores. The safe house used to belong to a drug lord until he was removed from position and was taken over by Rex and other SpecOps men and a leader, Frank. They may have come from different countries and forces, but are willing to work together to fight against terrorists and the drug trade. Rex had been used to working alone on most of his previous missions and had a perfect record.

His boss, Brandt, back in Nevada, had been persuaded by the team psychologist to put Rex on a more gentle type of mission with no kills. Just observe and report, but take no action. This was supposed to make sure he didn’t burn out or turn rogue with all his skills. Rex does his job ad sends in repeat reports. Often asking if any action is to be taken, especially when he finds actual opium labs and identifies drug lords in the area. He knows that the drug trade is funding terrorists and also killing thousands of users across the States. It seems those in charge back in the States aren’t listening or don’t want action to be taken!

Rex decides to start taking action in a small manner to start, with the hope of having larger missions approved from those in charge back home, or for him to be recalled home and get on with some proper work. What his actions lead to are more danger for him and those around him and a case of betrayal from someone in the US. This leads Rex to take certain steps to right the wrongs – but you need to read the book to find out what. Let’s just say, a dog really could be a man’s best friend! This book lets you see more of what Rex is about and the work he does. I enjoyed this one even more than the first where you learn about the beginnings of his journey into the CRC group. I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Rex Dalton had a mission. In Afghanistan, there was to be a big meeting of a few of the top drug lords. His mission was to lead a team of very good men into an ambush of the meeting and take out the powerful drug lords when they would least expect it and would not be prepared for a battle. Altogether there were 8 men and a dog. It all went horribly wrong. Somehow the ambush was suspected and the house was blown up after the team got into place inside the house ready to take out the meeting. All except Rex Dalton. This is his story of revenge and how he learned to work with a highly trained dog to get payback for the ambush of his men. Lots of action, cunning and stealth. And a very smart dog too. Great action thriller with lots happening and many near misses. There is a rotten US Senator in the wings and the part where he gets his is also very good. The dog is not involved in that one though as it happens in the US and Rex and the dog are running through Pakistan and India while that happens. Always something going on in the story, it is a really great one to read in an afternoon when you don't have interruptions.

Digger and the “Ghost” excell in survival skills when betrayed!

Rex Dalton inherits his best friends’ dog Digger when a serious ambush kills his partners. He survives the ambush along with the dog while having been gulled into believing a hastily gathered group of Afghanistan drug lords were to meet in a remote site. Rex is a member of a group known as the CRC, used often by the CIA, led by a former CIA member. The group was formed in secret to best protect the USA since the CIA had become incompetent in recent times. Much of this novel is about the exceptional skills of Rex also known as the ghost. He is called this because he remains almost invisible to friends and foe alike.
The present CIA is led by a politically ambitious man, Bruce Carson, who wants to become president. Carson is a weak, ineffectual leader who becomes threatened by the reports that Rex has sent from Afghanistan about the drug lords, and their operations since he is a user of the products himself. He has turned a blind eye to all requests to eliminate the heroin problem. The US is complicit in the drug trade so that Rex is a liability instead of asset. He must be eliminated.

Rex is devastated when his friends are killed in the ambush so he feigns his own death as he takes control of his Australian friends dog Digger who also survives by being outside the site when it exploded. Rex overcomes his fear of dogs to gradually bond with this amazing dog who is essential to his survival. The dog is probably the most interesting and fascinating character in this storyline.

Rex seeks vengeance on all parties who are responsible for the death of his 7 partners. His boss Brandt is also angry about the loss of his group, especially the thought that the ghost is dead.

Rex does team with Digger to seek vengeance on any who participated in this deadly feat. He feels totally alone, desperate, and fighting depression as well as shock.

Brandt seeks justice himself, suspicious of Carson who had set up this plan. He decides to prove that Carson is guilty of treason. Very kinky storyline. Carson is a real scumbag.

It is an enthralling book, reads a bit like a Hollywood screenplay. If even a kernel of truth in it, one would never trust government, politicians, bureaucrats, or federal officials again. In that respect, I really wish groups like the CRC were reality instead of fiction. The real unknown heroes.

I recommend to dog lovers especially. Digger is amazing!

Involving read about how Rex came to be in partnership with Digger and the sad circumstances surrounding his story. I can't help thinking he brought some of it on himself by not sticking to his original intelligence gathering brief but there is no excuse for the corruption enabling the drug traffickers and his moral standards cannot be entirely to blame. He now has to think of Digger as a partner in his quest for revenge on the people he blames for the betrayal, Carson had better cover his tracks well and even Rex's boss Brandt is under suspicion till proven innocent. I have books 4 to 6 to read now to follow him into the next episode in his career as a solo agent on a quest, luckily he has the drug lord's fortune to back him up.

I read this book as part of a three-book box set, and I must say, it was really one very long book, since each book was a continuation of the same story. At the beginning of this book, Rex Dalton is a key man in an off-the books secret agency associated with the CIA. He's in Afghanistan to uncover drug networks which are funding terrorism. Something goes horribly wrong, and by the end of this book, Rex is almost completely on his own and not part of any Organization. He has become the caretaker of a service dog due to the death of a colleague. We are going to learn a lot more about Rex and the dog.
Entertaining and fast moving story.

Although a stand-alone story, the 2nd book in the series about field operative, and chameleon, Rex Dalton, links to the first; starting just twenty-four hours after the last one ended. He’s still on a mission to make the world a better place. Spies are used to dealing with deceit and misdirection, but events in Afghanistan stretch even Rex, on this occasion. He’s failed in a mission, because of horrifying treachery, corruption and, above all, betrayal. Although he has a lot to learn about dog lore, now he’s on his own again, he’s glad to have Digger as an ally; to use his intelligence. Maybe he can even learn to like him and become a real team? Human plus dog equals three....

Who to Trust

Dalton has been spending time in Afghanistan studying the illicit drug scene. He has been tasked by the CIA through his company, CRC, to determine where illicit labs are, who is running the operations, and to report this back to Washington. He is not supposed to take action. But he is disturbed that his reports have met wit crickets (for those not knowing what this means, nothing results. But, unbeknownst to him and his employer, the head of the CIA is part of the group running drugs. Injured by an explosion in a trap set by the CIA head, Dalton wants revenge for the death of his team. ENJOY!

Awesome Read!

The Power of Three written by JC Ryan is the second book in the Rex Dalton thriller series. As I have found through my numerous years of reading, there are many writers unable to equal the quality of their first book in a series, and even fewer who can surpass it. Mr. Ryan is one of those exceptions. I loved the first book in his thriller series but I like this second book even more! For anyone looking for non-stop intelligent real world action, adventure, and intrigue, this series is a must. If you have not read the first book, do so, then you will be prepared for this one. I am looking forward to reading the third thriller in the near future.

I discovered Rex Dalton a few years ago. When I get a book the world stops until I finish. I was so happy to find this one as I have read many farther into the series. I recently read The Fulcrum and now The Power of Three. The backstory is alluded to in all his successive books, but I really enjoyed the opportunity to read these two books. I wanted to know the history, in depth, of Rex, Trevor and Digger and understand their closeness. The stories tell the heart wrenching reasons that forged the Rex Dalton we meet in the later books. Thrilling action and intrigue.

Move over Mitch Rapp ( author Vince Flynn) & Jack Reacher ( author Lee Child) & make room for a new military action hero, Rex Dalton with his military dog Digger. I really enjoyed this fast paced International Military action thriller. Loved the K9 addition. Rex and Digger do their best to shatter a drug empire in Afghanistan that has strong links to US power politics. The man-dog interaction as they begin to understand each other and bond is a nice twist. Will give one warning: this book is good but obviously is the first in a series. The story continues. I can’t wait.

I received an ARC of this book.

Book 1 seemed to plod along at times and I didn't feel it lived up the category of "thriller." Book 2 was different. The action began immediately and just kept going. I'm very happy that I gave it a try and am now eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series to see where Rex and Digger end up, does Rex go after Brant, do Carson and Hathaway get what they have coming to them? Oh so many loose ends in book 2!

ANOTHER AWESOME READ!!

Rex and his new companion, a military dog, Digger, are trying to escape from Afghanistan. While back in America others are trying to target those who tried to murder Rex. Those murderous people being higher ups in the Government of the United States.
A read, you won't want to put down, until the very end, leaving the reader wanting more.
Me? I'm off to read the next book!!

Totally hooked.

Could not wait to get to the end of this novel. Rex is still in Afghanistan from the first book and is on the trail of the drug traffickers and overlords. Betrayed by certain factors within America, he is caught in an ambush with his colleagues and only him and Digger come out alive. Revenge is sweet.
Meanwhile his boss in America also gets to the truth behind this betrayal and exact his revenge.
Just brilliant and now onto the next in the series

The Power of Three is the second book in the "A Rex Dalton Thriller" series and is an intriguing thriller.

This book takes Rex into Afghanistan in a non-combative role to scope out the drug trade. This does not go well but certainly gives us another look at Rex and his abilities. This story kept my interest throughout with non-stop action, danger, corruption, and intrigue.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

Good read

In this book you learn more about Rex and Digger. The story line keeps you going and is very entertaining. Every character adds to the story. The way the author puts it together and developed the characters gives a good flow to the book. It is interesting to watch Rex’s personality change as he works himself out of the spy business into his new life and Digger develops a relationship with Rex. Read and enjoy.

This second book in the "Rex Dalton" series was disappointing. It actually felt like it was written by a different person than the first book. Starting on the third book, and it so far is like similar to series book 2 in that the Protagonist seems a bit wimpy and introspective compared to the Superman type person in book one. The writing quality is good, it is just an inconsistent personality that has me not enjoying it as much.

Great Start to a Highly Enjoyable Series

You really should start with this story. It sets the background for the great series that follows. The hero, Rex, no not the dog, is gradually given the background that sets up the ongoing series. One man James Bond, etc. meets dog who is his new partner. Result is a stronger combination than just the two of them, hence the Power of Three! Read it and go on to the rest of the series.

This was a good second edition to the main storyline, but I would have given it 3.5 stars instead of just 3 mainly because I enjoyed it. What was negative was the format on kindle. At different areas in the book it would repeat 2 to 3 paragraphs before the story would continue which I thought was odd. This really hampered my reading of this book. Overall, not a bad story but I think it's time for me to move beyond this series and find something else to read. If you looking for a story involving a rogue government operative then this is for you.

A tour de force! Dog and human come together!

This has been an outstanding series from the opening chapter... but the action and interaction between characters has now ramped up to a new level! It hurts nothing in my enjoyment of the series that Rex's opinion and estimation of the character of most politicians mirrors my own. Five star rating and opening the next in the series as I post this!

I received an ARC from the author to review.
I loved this book more than the first. Rex no longer seems cold and robotic. You see how much he feels especially about his friends. I love the interaction between Digger and Rex. And I have to say that Digger is my favorite character. I look forward to the next book to find out how Rex handles the betrayal of his team.

Like the first book in this series there was no conclusion to the novel. Now have to buy #3 but I think it will be the same and not have an ending. Not a fan of this type of writing but must say Rex Dalton and Digger are really good characters. Enjoyed the story and would have been a 5 star rating if there had been an ending.

A great read from beginning to end! The main character has a keen sense of justice, and is willing to go to extremes to see that justice is done…even if that means breaking the law. That’s enough to keep me reading. I found myself cheering him on in his mission to rescue the world from a bad situation. It was geographically accurate...the best I could tell.

Wow

As I read this book I had to wonder if some of the story could come from real circumstances. There is no doubt people are corrupt and will use their positions of power to get ahead. Nor that the U.S. will look the other way to avoid conflict. I hope we have a few Rex Daltons on our side
