A monk is possessed by demons. Not knowing what he does when controlled by the demons monk Nicholas kills anybody in his path or area around him. I read book but it is not my favorite. I recommend book . Someone might like it. I read books sometimes only half and decide if they are worth reading further.
The beginning of the book was brilliant, but to my disappointment, I found myself losing interest. The story is too short. I could think of lots of things to add to make it more 'eye catching' to the reader. Maybe twinning Book Two with Book One might have a better outcome - something to get your teeth into; so to speak. Hope the Author doesn't take this to heart - it is only my honest opinion.
I really loved this book and have read the follow up books to it. It tells the story of a monk who is made to steal a Black Majic book, and well, you can guess what happens when he performs a spell and it's not good. This book was spooky, but not too graphic, so is good for those that like to read " dark" books. I received this book, complementary, for my unbiased review.
Carrie King is quite an undervalued writer in her genre with a number of exceptional books available!
Brother Nicholas has grown up in the abbey. Being pious, following the rules, doing as he is told is the only life he knows. Until one fateful day that changes his life forever. Unbeknownst to the brothers of the abbey, locked beneath their feet in the crypt is a book of the greatest evil, the Book of Khyra.
For just a few minutes Father Mathew leaves the crypt door unlocked on this day, and the innocent monk is drawn by the book. Once the ancient evil is unleashed, there is no putting it back, and poor Bother Nicholas is doomed.
To save the abbey and the other monks, Nicholas is banished to Briar Park, a house in the distant part of the abbey grounds. Once there Brother Nicholas is given the means to make a solitary life for himself till the end of his days. But how will he cope with the evil menace that has attatched itself to him? Will distance be enough to keep others safe? Come along and meet the evil in the house in Briar Park!
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. Set in the 1890's this book begins at the monastery where Brother Nicholas found an ancient book that tells him to unleash demons into the world. The demons kill and make a meal out of one of the brothers. When the head monk realizes what happened he banishes Brother Nicholas to an abandoned house called Briar Park. There Nicholas has to live out his life with the demons attached to him. He turns into a reclusive, unkempt hermit until a young nun approaches the house. Will the nun be able to help Nicholas or will he continue his spiral into hell? Very good paranormal story which is short and to the point.
Brother Nicholas reads from an ancient book. This unleashes evil forces, and his fellow monks are the first victims, and those that are left, have Nicholas taken from the monastery to live in a remote house Briar Park. There he is tormented by voices instructing him to do terrible crimes. He is alone....all alone. A totally scary story. Loved it!!!! I voluntarily read a copy of this book from the author/publisher.
An untold evil & an innocent priest that unwittingly unleashed it. Nicholas may not have any memory of the evil he released but after years of solitude with it’s whispering he submits. This was a great, chilling & quick yet descriptive read.
I voluntarily agreed to review this book, and was given an Advanced Reader Copy to do so.
An unsuspecting monk is lured by a mystical book and releases evil that follows him. I began to feel sorry for him when he is banished to an isolated house and is forced into lonely self survival. But, then things change! Short quick read. I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love Caroline Clark...she's my go-to creepy gal. After reading this book, I am definitely adding Carrie King to that list. This book was quick & tight. The ending left me wanting more, as all great series should. So anxious to continue... Thanks Carrie & Caroline!
A real good read, Carrie King and Caroline Clark grabs the reader right away, holding us right up to the end. Leaving us wanting to know what happens next. Can't wait to get started on With Evil Intent. So glad I bought all four books at one time.
Unimaginative, not very spooky, and not very well written. I've read fairy tales that were more scary. Don't bother downloading and wasting your time on this book.
A short story that is the start of a series. Monks are killed when one reads from an evil book. The monk who unwittingly read the book is banished to finish his life in seclusion in Briar Park, a home left to the monastery. The haunting starts here.
Very good book but then, these two writers always have good books. I enjoyed the story and characters. It's not a long book so if long books bother you, try this one.
Dumb me wrote them out of order. This is book one, a typical haunted house, ghost story. Short quick read, but you need to read the rest of the series. Maybe later....
Nice quick read but I do feel it could use more emotion. Horror/terror is an emotion and to skimp on the emotion skimps on the intensity of the terror.
