Following "The Maker's Mark" and "In That Quiet Earth", this final tale tells of an attraction of opposites - with all the pain and passion that unlikely infatuations bring. For three generations, the Brackenburys and the Hattersleys lived parallel lives in rural and urban England.
This culmination of the trilogy is such an amazing love story. All the more incredible because it is the true story of Hattersley’s parents. I have just re-read the trilogy after 30 years and thoroughly enjoyed it as much, if not more than, before. The very best of Hattersley’s writing, in my opinion.
