Hallie Goodway loves reading and writing fantasy stories. Her imaginations are wild and out of this world, and she has a penchant for romance and love stories involving angels, vampires, werewolves, fairies, demons, and all other supernatural beings. She believes that in every yang there is a yin, and in every darkness there is light, and in every evil there is goodness, and that there is a redemptive quality in love. Thus, her stories always reflect the transformative power of love, the idea that even the darkest of the darkest of us could still get helpless and knee-weak in love.
When not writing, you'll probably catch her reading fiction books. She prefers fantasy, romance, YA and new adult titles, not that she won't read any other books thrown at her. She frequents self-help books section too as she is an addict on learning new materials and trends.
I had the amazing opportunity of getting this book for free to write a honest review. Let me just say, THANK YOU SO MUCH HALLIE GOODWAY! I enjoyed every minute of reading the kick off to this wonderful series. (I seriously hope to get an ARC of the second book)
I LOVED everything about this book, the twists.. the heroine.. the hero... GAH, I love Hanael so much. The hero in the book was totally swoon-worthy and every scene with him and the heroine had me smiling like a dang lunatic. They had so much chemistry, it was EVERYTHING. The only thing that I could see people not liking about this book is that the heroine was almost raped and was taken advantage of by the evil demon king. Besides that, this really was such an amazing paranormal romance and I can't wait for the second!
I liked the storyline and the characters. It kept you guessing as to what would be next for them with the choices they faced. The story has plenty of action and romance is well paced. I am looking forward to reading more soon.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I rarely dabble in YA/NA novels, but this one peeked my curiosity enough to give it a go. The blurb promised an amazing world and an intriguing plot and I'm happy to say it delivered on both.
After an informative prologue, we understand that we are in the midst of a dispute between the ruling Fae Kings (Dark and Light). And it's all due to a broken promise. Promises and pacts are infused with magic when it comes to the fae, and when this pact is broken, a curse is bound to follow.
Our heroine, Samantha (Sam), has lived a sheltered life. She has literally only met 5 people in her 17 years because her dad has forced her into a life of hiding so that the Dark King can not find her. When children begin to die mysteriously, the blame lands on her and her life begins to unravel as one secret after another is revealed. An unlikely savior, Haneal, comes to her aid and begins to help her understand who she truly is and what her existence means.
Overall, this was a fantastic read. The story flows beautifully and is well thought out. It is written in first-person and from Sam's point of view, but done in a way where not only she, but other characters are well-developed. The story is captivating and action-packed and Ms. Goodway excels at the plot twist.
As the reader, we are learning about this magically dangerous world along with Sam and we are also constantly second guessing who to trust and what to believe. Red herrings are being thrown at us and Sam's growth (mentally, emotionally and physically) is genuine and heart wrenching at times. Naive and dependent at first she slowly sheds that delicate skin for a much tougher one.
Hanael is an amazing hero; delicious and dangerous. He's actually a demon (a fallen angel) and the right-hand man to the Dark King. He was charged with retrieving Sam as a baby but was thwarted in his efforts. A "bond" was forced at their first meeting due to a kiss and he has protected Sam all her life without anyone's knowledge. What started as a chore has turned into devotion and when all the chips are laid out, Hanael must decide where his loyalty lies.
The attraction and pull towards one another is mutual and their growing affection is smoldering, yet sweet. We are in that YA world, so any love scenes are somewhat tame. But they are there and very effective.
Although beautifully written with vivid imagery and an elegant rhythm, a few grammatical issues did bug me from time to time. There were some wording and sentence structure issues (as if it was being translated from a foreign language) that stopped the flow of the story. This was disappointing because there was such a good flow. I would be sailing through the drama and then all of sudden, would hit these bumps. Since I did get this as an ARC, I'm hoping these type of issues were still being worked out before release.
Regardless, these were by no means enough of an issue to have me stop reading. I was glued to the pages and heavily invested in seeing it to the end. The blurb says that this book is in par with Twilight or Mortal Instruments, but I think fans of Dannika Dark or Donna Augustine would really enjoy this series as well.
I read this book in one sitting, 5 straight hours, until 2 in the morning. Like most of us avid readers, this was not the original plan. But, I could not put this book down. It was that good. And it's only the beginning.
This is the first book in the Kissed By Series and I will be waiting impatiently for book 2. Well done, Ms. Goodway! This is an excellent start to what looks to be a thrilling and memorable series.
A young girl, Sam, finds out her life is mixed in with a dispute between Dark and Light Fae Kings. A pact was made in the past for the first born female of a couple, to marry and reunite both sides. When the woman had found herself in love with another, after being promised in marriage, this was the compromise, but she has broken that too! As a baby, of this fae woman and a human, she had been promised to the Dark Fae King. A Dark Angel, Haneal (a fallen angel – so classed as a demon in this story), came to collect the baby and made an error and kissed Sam on the forehead. This meant he has given his ‘first kiss’ to another and is linked to her for life.
The pact that was broken, a pact of powerful magic, has a bad result and ends in a curse on those who broke it. Haneal was a young demon, without knowledge of what his first kiss would mean and has followed Sam as she grew up and watched her constantly from the sidelines. She has been kept in a house by her ‘father’ and has never been allowed to leave the house at all. The only time she tried, she was badly burnt and thinks something is medically wrong with her. She doesn’t know the house is heavily, magically warded to keep fae away.
The only problem trying to read this, was the ‘language’ and ‘use of tenses’, clearly not edited by a native English speaker. Some parts of the story were hard to understand because of it and a few I couldn’t figure out at all, but there were also a few that made me laugh out loud!
You get to see her finally leaving her house, as it comes under attack, and running off with Hanael, who says he is there to help her. She doesn’t know who to trust, but finds him extremely attractive and starts to get close to him. You get to see Sam coming of age and actually having to do things for herself after being sheltered from the world around her for so long.
The pact between dark and light is also further explored and we find out a little more about what has happened to her and who else is actually involved in the ruse of hiding her away in the human world. I won’t say much else as it would ruin it. An interesting start to the series and would likely read the next as I know what to expect from the writing issues mentioned above, which didn’t put me off too much.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above. It would have received 4 stars, if it wasn’t for the ‘English’ spelling and grammar issues.
“…And all I can think of is how his sorrow wraps beautifully with each kiss, like a parting gift. And how his kisses don’t feel like a search for distraction—but a search for me, the me that always hides and fears—and how slowly, unexpectedly, I can feel my heart breaking silently. Because he kisses me like he’ll never be able to kiss me again. He kisses me like this is our first and last.…”
17 year old Samantha Watcher has been sheltered by her father her entire life, so when they try to escape a mob of ...beings(?) she’s unsure what’s wrong. And when one of them saves her, she’s attracted to him although she hasn’t a clue as to why.
Haneal, the demon who saves her, takes her to the Dark King, but then helps her escape. Turns out, he’d kissed her at birth so there’s a bond with her. Together, they find new alliances and learn the actual scope of the curse between a mortal and The Fae, and just how does Sam fit into the puzzle.
This is the first in a new series, and it’s a long book, so settle in. The story is breathtaking in scope but some of the grammatical and typography issues are what knocked a star off my review. 4/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it]
ONE INCREDIBLY DELIGHTFUL READ!!! OMG! Wow, talk about jumping in head first. Man, this is one exciting, action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, nailbiting, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning bombshell that's as riveting as it is captivating. I was a goner from the git-go. No turning back, no holds barred, take no prisoners, face forward. The drama, lies, deceit, betrayal, danger and suspense increases and the tension spirals while plot thickens. All the twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for remarkable experience. The characters and their personalities are unique with qualities and traits that balance out perfectly. The scenes are so graphically detailed it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. Not knowing friend from foe and no where to turn, you find your choice is very limited with your back against the wall. As they try to come to terms with their situation evil comes lurking in every dark corner. Hallie did an amazing job bringing this read to life. Fantastic job Hallie, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.

First off, if you love to read and like to give your own feedback on the books your read, I highly recommend checking out Hidden Gems. They provide a wide variety of ARCS and they're all super nice and helpful.
Anywho, this book! I honestly wasn't sure what to expect with this one. I do love a good paranormal book but I usually read more about strictly vampires. Demons? Why not?
This book was quite a surprise. It revolves around Sam who has basically been held hostage at her house with her dad her entire life. She has been told that she will die if she leaves the house so she pretty much as had her dad and 1 close friend her whole life. One night a demon shows up and says she has to come with him and marry this creepy king who put a curse on her through her mom.
It was kind of confusing at first but the writing was excellent and it drew me in right away. There were twists and a love story without shoving it in your face. The love relationship did seem a bit odd and almost forced at times but it was written in a way that it made sense in the end.
Like all my reviews, I'm trying not to give too much away while still giving a recap of the story. It's hard with this because there were a lot of twists and the little that I can say doesn't do the story justice.
The writing was great and the characters were well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and hope I have the chance to read the next one.
**My thanks to the author and Hidden Gems for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This has a really decent plot line, however i just could not get over the amount of typo's in this book. I am really hoping that this gets corrected before it's released to the general public. It really took away from the story for me.
The story focuses on 17 year old Samantha (Sam) Watcher and how she finds out that after her very sheltered life, that things are not quite what they seem.
There are lots of twists and turns and lots for Sam to contend with in such a short amount of time and she copes really well with the massive upheaval in her life. Not only do things with her only friend take a twist she also finds some strange attraction to a boy who rescues her and protects her from the town that she lives in.
Lots of detail as to the demons lair and how the lair is difficult to navigate and enough description of the people and places she she's and goes to to give you a feel of the the world around her.
This is my 1st read and review for this author and what an amazing story. 17 years ago Leia was promised to the dark king her father the Fae king promised the dark king that he would marry Leia and the pact was set but Lia met a watcher Gareth and instantly fell in love with him and she broke the pact. Now Leia has just given birth to a daughter and the demons are there to collect her but they bargain to have their daughter for 3 days the demon agrees so he kisses the baby on the lips and says an incantation it’s a claim on the baby. Leia told the demon that the kiss he just gave her daughter means that her daughter will be able to tell him what to do when she is older, the demon swears he didn’t know about the kiss a Demons first kiss is like a curse but the demon didn’t even know. And that my friends is the beginning of this amazing story it’s a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Hallie Goodway’s Kissed by a Demon. Set in a world where things that go bump in the night (world where demons, vampires, werewolves, etc.) are quite real (along with fae, seers and others of a magical persuasion) - but where things are not at all what they first seem - this is a perfectly plotted (and well written) start of what I hope is a long series. Yummy Hanael (lucky Samantha), yummy thrills and action, twists and turns, mysteries and intrigued, truths revealed and betrayals done, and pretty much everything else you could want. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Exciting, action packed full of twists and turns. This is part 1 of a series and a very long book, make sure you have time set aside because you won't be able to put it down.
Sam has been sheltered all her life and never left her home, nor did she have any interaction with people with the exception of 5 people, her father, teacher and a family of 3. Sudden deaths in the town leads to Sam being blamed, even if she has never left her home. It comes to light that Sam is the sole heir of the King Fae and fated to the demon king, however she meets Hanael, a gorgeous and sexy demon, who takes her to the demon king, where nothing is what it seems to be.
There are some major twists and plot developments and I can't wait for book 2. I highly recommend this book. I received a free Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Totally enjoyed this story. Sam has been kept hidden her whole life. She knows nothing of the supernatural world until one night a woman shows up with her dead son and Sam's neighbor shows up with his dead baby.
That is where this adventure begins. She finds a strange man in room who disappears when her dad enters the room and says they need to leave now. They end up captured by the townspeople and the strange man comes to Sam's rescue.
Hanael is the stranger who takes Sam away from everything she knows and begins her introduction to the paranormal world, where she not only find out he is a demon but that vampires and werewolves and other mythical creatures exist.
This is a must read to find out more about Sam, more about Hanael, and more about why first kisses are really a curse.
A baby’s birth, a mother who had broken a vow, and the children of the dark forest who are claiming her daughter as their own in recompense. Leia was the only daughter of the King of the fae, and the dark king, who was also a powerful demon, had fallen in love with her and asked for her hand in marriage, to which her father had agreed thinking that the joining of the light and dark forces would only bring goodness to the children of the forest. However, he was not considering that his daughter might fall in love with someone else. It so happened that she fell in love with a mortal, Gareth, who was also a watcher. Now 17 years later Sam the daughter has to pay for her parent’s broken vow! A lot of things happen in the novel and the reader gets to meet demons, vampires, shape shifters, werewolves, seers, watchers and mortals. The story has quite a few twists to it, which makes it a fantastic tale, enjoyable and thrilling, keeping the reader hoping for a happy ending right till the end. The final battle scene is spectacular being one fought by words and swords, as none were better at spell craft than demons. This very gripping novel is in the end a story of love, a love that can conquer all and breach any hurdles. One which shows that even the darkest demon can be redeemed through love. Well done Hallie Goodway for a great first book.
Kissed by a Demon by author Hallie Goodway is a well written story with excellent world building filled with humans, vampires and things that go bump in the night. The characters are well developed and interesting. Samantha (FMC) was kissed by the Demon Haneal at birth creating a bond between them. Samantha's father has kept her from the world (practically a prisoner) for her 17 years until things that go bump in the night come to kill her and they have to run. This is an action packed, fast paced tale filled with mysteries and intrigue. This is a book that I easily give an exceptionally high recommendation. Received a copy from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Amazing Paranormal Read! Fantastic first novel in the Kissed By series and I can’t wait to read book two. I loved the main characters Samantha and Hanael, and was drawn into their unique story. All the characters and situations are so well written and vividly portrayed that you’re kept on the edge of your seat throughout. The story has everything suspense, drama, intrigue, lies, half-truths, betrayal, twists and turns along with fast paced action and romance. Overall a great read! Enjoy! I received an arc copy and am happy to leave my honest review.
When well- hidden secrets were discovered Sam felt at loss. What was real about her? Lies and threats to her life were what she got? Demons, shifters, vampires and paranormal characters in this intriguing story full of action, suspense, magic, strong emotions, secrets, mystery, violence and passion. Liked the demon’s struggle with his emotions, enjoyed the twists in the story and how the author ended this first book with an intriguing note. Very interesting and entertaining story.
Kissed By A Demon by Hallie Goodway, this is the first book in a new series and is a 5 star read. This was a brilliant read, from the very first page I was hooked, the storyline keeps you guessing and the characters were very well thought out. Samantha and Hanael, the two main characters were very likeable and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

**spoliers ahead**
I really liked reading this book. I wanted to see how Sam will grow towards the end of the book as she lived a really sheltered life. She has reallly good chemistry with Hanael and towards the end I thought Hanael betrayed her.
Interested to see book2

A twisted, mixed up romance book. Sam is falling for a demon, a demon killed her mom, so why is she falling for this demon? This is a story of mixed up emotions and flows very well. It gets even more mixed up at the end, but I won't give away the real twist of the story. Well worth reading.
I received and ARC and i'm so happy I did. This book is great! You just can't stop reading it. I'm dying to read te next one. Hanael is just the best demon ever! Sam is a very lucky woman. Well.. She is not very lucky... Guess you all should read the book.

An interesting new twist to an age-old fae romance. Book one is a fast-paced read that captures the reader's attention right from the beginning. While it is written in primarily first person, the author provides first person snippets from other characters to allow the reader to see into their minds.
