Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian author, best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908.
Montgomery was born at Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Nov. 30, 1874. She came to live at Leaskdale, north of Uxbridge Ontario, after her wedding with Rev. Ewen Macdonald on July 11, 1911. She had three children and wrote close to a dozen books while she was living in the Leaskdale Manse before the family moved to Norval, Ontario in 1926. She died in Toronto April 24, 1942 and was buried at Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
I thoroughtly enjoyed this collection of Christmas-related stories.
Though not explicitly "Christian" (in the sense that they refer to the actual events of the first Christmas), almost all of the stories stress the importance of self-giving love. I, who abhor sentimentality, must confess that I shed several tears while reading this book.
The title is a bit of a misnomer (only one of the stories involves Anne), but all of the stories were sweet and heartwarming--this is perfect to read at Christmastime
All of the stories were basically the same - someone, or some family, weren't sure how they were going to be able to have Christmas this year, and then someone comes in to save the day. Oftentimes, there were so many names mentioned that I couldn't tell one apart from the other or who was doing what.
