I'm rating this book 2.5 stars. I was disappointed from this read. It wasn't what i expected from the book summary. The biggest problem i had in this book was Brooklyn. In books like this where there is a abused main character i expect for them to rise from the ashes in the read. And, what i mean by that is for the character to become stronger or rise to the occasion. And i didn't feel the abused character did that. Throughout this story Brooklyn was constantly being saved by someone else, from cafe confrontations to kidnappings. And i as the reader wanted her to safe herself. I feel like this book had the potential to be emotionally impactful but the writer failed to do so. One example of this is Brooklyn was a weak character from the start. If when she met this guy that abused her, she was a stronger person, it would have been more heartbreaking to read because he would have broken down her strength and after she left him she could have tried to get that strong version of herself back. But instead she was a weak character from the start. I felt towards the end of the read that Brooklyn might have borderline personality disorder because one minute she was this weak crying mess thinking everyone will leave her and the next moment she's this sexually aggressive you are mine character. And her being sexually aggressive isn't a problem its the fact it was that this read had the back and forth personality. I also felt she was to naive when she was 18 before this abuse started with the Darren guy. Next, i want to say something about Dominic. I feel he was only a mob boss in name only. I'm confused about his character because how is he the mob boss? He just didn't have that personality needed for a character like him. But i did like Dominic he just didn't have enough darkness in him to be a mob boss and order people to be killed on a daily bases. Last thing i want to say, the plot was predictable and Kat's character did outshine Brooklyn in some scenes. I'm going to end this review by saying i enjoyed reading this 50% of the time and there were some aspects i liked .
I originally read this back in 2017 (KU) and for some reason it was still on my kindle. I decided to do a re-read since I always intended to move on to Kat’s book.
It seemed harder going this time. The writing is....immature. I suppose that’s the best way to describe it. But it’s a first book so I’m hoping for growth in the next one.
Brooklyn annoyed me no end and like she says...
“Call me stupid, pathetic or even naïve....”
Yes I did several times throughout the book. Also Kat calling her Dollface constantly (20 times) didn’t help.
What does concern me is that my original 3* review has disappeared from Amazon UK. Leaving this book with just 5* reviews. My review was up because I checked at the time but now it’s gone. That’s worrying. I’ve re-posted it so we’ll see what happens...
Original review - 3*
I noticed a friend had read and loved this book and so I decided to give it a try. Before I go any further I have to say I enjoyed this book but.... I've been trying to work out how to describe this book and the best I can come up with is forget about fifty shades of grey there's absolutely no grey here at all this is all black and white. All the characters are extreme, either completely bad or incredibly good there's just no grey areas at all and it's weird. It's insta-love as well so if this isn't your thing you've been warned. I understand this is a debut novel so I don't want to be too harsh after all the basics are covered. It has a good alpha male in Dominic and that's a major part of the book for me, Dominic was simply fabulous. So despite the fact that everyone was so completely OTT and Brooklyn was so naive that I'm sure at twenty-three she still believes in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy this book worked. Yes it annoyed me at times, I needed the grey and didn't realise how weird a book is without it, where were the normal people? So we have Dominic who's brilliant, Antonio is not far behind, Kat is a great friend but a bit too full-on for me, Evie is just precious and at 5 years old she's already way smarter and worldly wise than her mother, Brooklyn was too naive and I want to say pathetic but I know with what she's been through that seems harsh but when I think of her it's the first word that springs to mind. I'm assuming Antonio and Kat's book is next and I'd be interested in reading that. Everyone has their own rating system and I've had complaints in the past that I'll write a review stating I've enjoyed a book but then only give 3* the problem is I don't consider 3* a negative. Most of the books I read fall into the 3* category, this for me signifies a good enjoyable read. 5* is reserved for the rare amazing books that come around (if you're very lucky) several times a year. 4* is also an exceptional read, a book I'll re-read and keep handy, so this book gets a good 3*.
So many of my favorite things in one book - -alpha hero who is devoted 100% -sweet heroine who didn't constantly push away -no cheating -the drama did not impact their relationship negatively (even though it was ow/om) -great secondary characters
I really enjoyed it. The heroine had been abused by her ex. He was horrible. She was so fragile because of it- he took advantage of her naivete.
This was a really good debut and I think this author has great potential! It did lack an epilogue which was a shame. I hope her next book (Kat and Antonio) is just as safe and hot as this one!
I saw this debut book posted on one of my favorite author's Facebook page and thought I'd give it a try. I really went in blind keeping my fingers crossed it was safe enough for me and I wouldn't be bored to tears. Well I gotta tell you...If you LOVE insta-love you will absolutely LOVE this. It was INSTANT insta-love. Dominic saw Brooklyn and that was it. BAM! And he was all about his woman and his new daughter Evie. His obsession with her and his "Mine, mine, mine" attitude kept me reading.
Now this was NOT a down and dirty, nitty-gritty mafia book. There was very little of the mafia storyline so if you're looking for something like that, this is probably not your book. There was a little bit but not much.
Brooklyn was a little bit too naive for my tastes initially but seemed to grow. I'm sure she'll make a fine mafia boss's wife. Evie was just too precious for words. I love when the heroine has kids and they call the hero "Daddy". Just melts my heart.
Since this is a debut novel, the writing needs some work. I see some great potential for Ms. Maree. But there were a few things that bugged me. If I never see the words "moan", "smirk", or "wink" again I'll be okay. And I swear I thought I wrote this book because the word "fuck" is used A LOT lol. 390 times to be exact....
All kidding aside, I did enjoy the way Dom loved Brooklyn and Evie. I am definitely looking forward to reading Kat and Antonio's story. I also look forward to seeing this author's writing improve. As I said before I think she has great potential. So, this is probably 3-3.5 stars for me but I'll round up to 4 because I definitely want to encourage her to keep writing these awesome heroes with that "Mine" mentality I love.
Here are some trigger warnings/safety if you're interested:
3.5 il Mío Amore stars!! This was a good debut novel. Dom is my favorite type of hero. He's a possessive alpha with a sweet side that he only shows his Angel. I also loved watching him with the h's little girl that he claims as his daughter. Total instalove with some suspense thrown in. I'm looking forward to Antonio and Kat's story. I loved Kat in this book but know that it'll all depend on how she's written in her own book whether I'll still like her or not. I'm hoping the author shows her vulnerability in the next book to make this tough as nails chick likeable.
Brooklyn is ready to escape her abusive relationship with her fiance because it is a danger to her but more important to her daughter. So with her friends help she gets away and starts to make her life over in safety but always looking over her shoulder. While she is working at her friend's coffee shop she meets a man that makes her feel things she has never felt before.
Dominic sees Brooklyn and is so taken by her he invites her to his club. He finds himself wanting her but wanting her forever which is not something he thought he would ever find. When he finds out her history he immediately steps up and into protective mode for her and her daughter because he can't deny they feelings and know that she is the one for him but worries if she will accept that is a mob boss. They also have some people that don't want them to be together and are working to make them pay.
This is one that left me feeling some kind of way. I liked certain things and things I didn't like and then things that I just couldn't buy. So let me try to break down my thoughts and will use spoiler tags and try not to give to much way but don't know I successfully this review will be.
I will start with the easy. I liked the hero Dominic. Alpha antihero that was a great.
I liked the insta love mostly because I am a fan of low angst and insta love cuts down on a lot of relationship angst in a book.
The heroine is where a lot of problems happened for me. You have a woman at 18 that seemed to be naive to the point of being sheltered but that doesn't make sense because of her friend who seemed to be a little more street smart than her. Someone who never picked up the warning bells on the fiance and dismissed her friends warnings and later her parents warnings as well as her own feelings of something not being right. It seemed it took forever to even know this was a big problem until her daughter's safety came into play. He was never good to her so I don't get how he could manipulate her so easily with out more work being put in to letting her guard down. I mean he always put her down and the little time he was nice was only with others. It was like he took advantage of her just not knowing any better even though she had support and even the mind to know better and still fell into this. The stuff with her feels like way to much to swallow. Especially given how she behaves later in the book. That she cusses a lot and is such a sexy thing that is not shy about walking around to tempt her man in front of his men and is aggressive in the sex department despite I remember my GRs friend Pagan saying that she read a book where the heroine was like a Disney princess in a book and it didn't fit. I realize this is now how I feel about the heroine. She was the Disney princess that I am to believe turns into a bad ass later. Any one can change but this was too much for me to believe and I just couldn't swallow it
There were plot holes that were filled to a point but it also didn't was just too much for me to buy. I kept thinking what next.
All my GR friends know my thing about side characters especially the bff. This is one that drove me crazy even though I did think she was a good friend. She was turnt way the hell up all the time. She dominated the scenes she was in. She was just too much freakin mouth and too much I will kick your ass. One thing I always say is you don't always talk about how you can whoop ass because you will always find someone that can whoop yours. Again, I thought she was a good friend to the heroine and excellent to the little girl, she was one I wanted to just to tell to sit her ass down or to shut the f*ck up.
I also must say the background story of the hero reminded me of another mafia book that got pulled from GRs due to it having pulled for containing phrases from another authors books. Not saying it is the same at all but the way the son takes over what he finds out and the bff and second in command all had me thinking of that book because of how it had a similar the it was but played out differently. But I haven't read many mafia type books and it could be a common one. Again no one jump on me and say that they author did because it wasn't the same. Besides the one I speak of is again one pulled anyway.
This was a book that could have been sweet but it also was trying to be gritty as mafia books are. The problem was the execution for me. I didn't buy the heroine and a lot of the plot just left me feeling like my brain was jumbled. It has taken forever for me to even write this review because I am trying to lay out how I feel but my brain feels like scrambled eggs after reading it. It became work to finish because of how I kept thinking too much thru it because of how I was trying to sort out my feelings as well as the story. I am the odd one out as far as enjoyment factor and honestly can see why some do like it. I think it just hit too many pauses for me and when that happened it made me think more and that in turn took me out of just flowing. I mean honestly I read some uber cheesy, some very insta love, and some that definitely aren't very believable for sure. So I can't say why this one took me so out of the ability to just enjoy it for what it was. I am leaving this review here because honestly I just still can't explain how this read made me feel and a star rating is even hard to say.
I was offered the opportunity to beta read this debut book & I'm so glad I read it.
This is not your typical love story as the main female character, Brooklyn suffers from domestic abuse. I thought it was well written & my heart broke for her & anyone in that situation.
Dom is a gorgeous, charismatic mob boss who is instantly attracted to Brooklyn but can he break through her walls & show her not all men are the same.
Be prepared for a few twists along the way with a couple of heart stopping moments thrown in. I would highly recommend this book from this new author. I'm excited to read her future work.
The premise was actually quite good. A heroine who suffered abuse from her partner finally gets the courage to leave, then meets the Hero - who falls head over heels in love with her at first sight. Hero is an alpha male: protective & dominant but still sweet and always thinks about how to make the heroine comfortable being with him since it was pretty obvious she was an abuse victim.
I think the main thing that didn't sit well with me was...the heroine herself.
SPOILER ALERT
She explains to the Hero that when she met her previous partner - who was her neighbor - her best friend warned her to be careful because the neighbor was creepy and stalker-ish. heroine didn't listen. She goes with him to a party etc and then she gets date raped. What I don't get really is why she stayed with him, knowing he raped her. And when she found out she was pregnant, she actually apologized to her rapist for getting pregnant...WTF...and continued to stay with him for five / six years. She gete beaten up, sexually abused, verbally abused, she "didn't have a cent to her name" bec apparently she got money from the guy for groceries and that was it.
I've never been in a relationship like that, so I don't know if I can say this kind of victim behavior is normal or okay. But I get really bothered by how she was okay with being date raped. And how she just stayed with the guy as if an 18 year old pregnant girl didn't have any other choice.
Dominic was a great Hero. He treated the heroine w so much love and respect. He fell in love with her daughter, too and I love daddy heroes. He's so cute with little Evie calling her "princess". Sigh. Men with babies just do it for me lol.
Kat is an amazing best friend. She is tough and sassy (though sometimes i feel like she's overdoing it) and was the one who helped the heroine leave the bad guy. I'm interested to read her & Antonio's story.
In the end, I still wonder why the villain tortured the heroine so much.
This is an insta-love-story that you won't put it down until all the problems solved. So much romanticism, but also annoyingly weak heroine. Sometimes. But we put it off, because the heroine have all the rights to do so.
Sweet, emotional, and holy hotness of the hero over the top!
Oh god how do I rate this, lol. So this book had me all over the place, in the beginning it had me so sad and just out right crying, then, it had me rolling my eyes, ugh then the pages and page's of sex scenes. Good Lord, like I said everywhere. But I still find myself very amused by this read, I swear I was yelling in my head "come on already!!!
Things that bothered me, 1) the ages of the characters, 2) evie is way stronger then her mom 3) all the sex, (I get it, she gets more then me) ..lol 4) angel becomes a sex goddess right away, but then again who wouldn't with a hot dude like dom
Ok so I kinda liked this instant kinda love/mob story.
3 1/2 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is the first book in the Mine series by Kay Maree. At first I loved this book but then I really started to think about it and the more I thought the angrier I got. Considering this was the author's first book it was really good but there were things that I found frustrating. I absolutely love mafia books, they are my favorite sub-genre especially a bad ass mafia boss. I did love Dom in this book but one thing that irked me was Joey, as far as I'm concerned he should've been killed after saying shit about Brooklyn, Kat, and Evie. Especially because he was also high at the time and Dom hated drugs so much. Also I love a man who isn't afraid to cry but it seemed like Dom cried A Lot. At times I thought Brooklyn was TSTL, examples ; She didn't remember willingly giving up her virginity but never questioned anything about it ? For five years she dealt with that POS asshole ? Her parents death, as soon as I read it I knew what happened to them. It never crossed her mind ? She didn't think it was odd that for five years he only wanted blow jobs ? The brick in through the window ? I knew who it was immediately. There was so much I loved about this book but also so much I hated. I've never had that reaction to a book before but I will read the next one. Brooklyn is 23 years old and she has an adorable five year old daughter named Evie. Her fiancé, Darren is a psychopath who is verbally, mentally, and physically abusive to her and he barely acknowledges their daughter. Her best friend, Kat gave her a burner phone in case of an emergency. After Darren hits Evie, Brooklyn calls Kat for help and escapes while Darren is at work. Kat owns a coffee shop (Coffee Kat) in a small seaside town and she gives Brooklyn a job and finds her a place to live. Harry and Gwen are an older couple who own the house Brooklyn lives in and she's become quite close to them, Evie calls them Nana and Pop. Kat is independent, outgoing, and very outspoken whereas Brooklyn is introverted and soft spoken. One day three men come into Coffee Kat and one of them is very rude to Brooklyn and he starts screaming at her when she accidentally bumps into him. Dominic Grasso is 26 years old and he's a well respected Mafia boss. Antonio, who he's known since they were kids is his best friend and right hand man. They were at Coffee Kat meeting with some moron who supposedly had information for Dom. They hear the guy they were meeting yelling at the cashier and they start to intervene just as Kat comes from the back and rips the guy a new asshole. Dom is completely captivated by Brooklyn and invites her to Destiny, the nightclub he owns. Dom notices that Antonio can't keep his eyes off Kat so he tells Brooklyn to bring her too. Brooklyn and Kat go to Destiny that night and have a great time. Dom never thought he would end up in a serious relationship or have a family. But being with Brooklyn makes him want all those things and when he meets Evie he's quite taken with her. He knows he must tread carefully because he can see that Brooklyn has been terribly hurt in the past. Another thing that annoyed me was the bartender chick, Janet, she knows Dom is a big, bad mafia boss and what he's capable of yet she's willing to risk his wrath over one night of sex. I highly doubt it. Also Brooklyn goes from being practically a virgin, shy and scared of her own shadow to a full blown sex-maniac who has no problem shooting and killing a woman.
I feel that this author has found a way to touch on hard subjects such as abuse and rape and create a safer world for its victims. I loved hoe the characters were able to overcome the darkness in their lives and are able to look and find that love at first sight some of us dream of. To be able to take a girl who really has no clue at what is happening around her, to pull her through the viciousness of domestic abuse and rape is an amazing task. But this author does just that. You cannot judge a book or a person by what is said of them. You really need to get to know them and their world to really know them. Pick up your copy of Angel Mine by Kay Maree to see how she is able to pull this story through such emotional upheaval. Cannot wait to read the next book, Kitten Mine! Well Done!🌺
2,5-3 stars I forgot how many times I rolled my eyes while reading Angel mine don't get me wrong I love my alpha male and insta-love but this was too much.Brooklyn oh God she is such naive heroine I tried to understand her that she had abusive past relationship but she was clueless.Dominc is alpha hero by my tasty, alpha, possessive and he along with Evie is highlight in the book. The writing is not my favorite but its ok,it's author first book so I get past mistakes. The story is rushed and the plot is happening I think between 1 month or less.I must say it's not realistic(i know is book and fiction ).The second characters meaning the heroine best friend Kat I didn't like her. Overall this book has potential but for me it's not balanced,it's too much of everything.
I had the pleasure of an early read by this debut author. It's a well written tale and kept me entertained throughout. I often avoid Mafia books as I never like the leading man, likening them to a thug and murderer. Kay showed a softer side, a man brought to his knees by the love of a woman and child. Angel was in an abusive relationship and with the help of her friend escaped with her daughter. Her life is turned around when she discovers what love really is. Will her abusive ex catch up with them and destroy her future? Twist at the end, I didn't see that coming. Well done and I look forward to future works by this author.
I couldn't put this down even when struck ill, Dominic and Brooklyn was a whirlwind romance and I loved how it was written and little Evie I could have eaten her up this book had me in tears each time Brooklyn got hurt.
This is the first book I have ever read by Kay Maree and it definitely won't be the last! This is a wonderful story about instant love (which I LOVE) and a man who is willing to do anything to protect his family.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
‘Angel mine’ is the debut book of Kay Maree. It’s a mafia story that takes place in Australia. The fact that the story didn’t take place in America or Italy gave the story for me something extra and the fact that Dominic had an Italian accent was another plus for me.
You have books that are slow burners and you have insta love books. ‘Angel mine’ is a 200% insta love romance story! I must confess that after reading the blurb I expected an emotional and dark story but the writer surprised me with humor, friendship and love. Especially that first one, I didn’t expect to find in this book. But the ‘funny craziness’ of both Brooklyn and her best friend Katherine made that the story wasn’t too dark although it involved some emotional scenes. I know that some people will find Brooklyn very naive but I think that that innocent just made her the perfect match for Dominic.
Brooklyn Mackenzie is a young woman who’s been abused emotionally and physically by her ex-boyfriend (the father of her child). She stayed with him until the moment that he started to use violence against their daughter too. She ran away from him with the help of her best friend Katherine. The last thing that Brooklyn expected to find, was love and protection in the arms of a dangerous mob boss.
After running away from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Brooklyn only wanted a quiet life where she and her daughter were safe from her ex-boyfriend. She never expected to find true love with another man but that happens when Dominic walks in at the coffee shop where Brooklyn works. The attraction between them is immediately. Dominic knows right away that Brooklyn is the woman for him. But Brooklyn isn’t so sure at first, she’s afraid. Can she trust another man after what happened with her ex-boyfriend and will Dominic accept her daughter Evie? Can she really trust Dominic not to hurt her or her daughter? But the strange thing is that the more Brooklyn gets to know Dominic and his dangerous world where he lives in, the safer she feels. Because she knows within her heart that the dangerous man would never hurt her or her daughter. She has never felt more loved before but Brooklyn knows that she has to be careful because her ex-boyfriend is looking for her and she knows that one day he will find them. Can Dominic protect her and her daughter not only from him but also from his own enemies?
Like I said in the beginning, the pace in this story is very fast. But I didn’t mind it. I love my slow burners but sometimes you want a story where the couple fall in love at first sight. In ‘Angel mine’ that is definitely the case. I think the reason for that is the fact that although Brooklyn and Dominic had a very different upbringing (Brooklyn grew up in a normal, protective home and Dominic grew up in a mafia family), both are looking for the same thing. They want someone to love and who will also love them back and it’s that longing for love that makes that they fall for each other so quickly. They recognize this need in each other and that’s also the reason that I felt for their love story too. Throughout the story you felt the love and the need for love and for each other.
Two of the side characters in this story were Brooklyn’s best friend Katherine (Kat) and Dominic’s best friend Antonio. They were both very interesting people and the fact that they both were also fascinated with each other gave this story something extra too. Kat is the total opposite of Brooklyn. She isn’t shy but she’s very protective and loyal. She has definitely a special way with words. Brooklyn is a woman who sees nothing but good in other people so Kat with her big mouth makes their friendship very fascinating. Dominic is an alpha and dominant man but he’s also sexy and very tender towards his ‘girls’ something I really liked about him. I really enjoyed ‘Angel mine’ and I’m looking forward to the next story in this series.
Angel Mine was a great first for indie author Kay Maree! Im so excited to be along for the ride and to watch her grow and develop with the "Mine" series and beyond!
Angel Mine is a mob-boss based, super-sexy romance thats sprinkled with a little dark on top. Everything I love from my reads and more!
This first read in the Mine series, took me on a journey through each emotion and especially surprised me with the refreshingly great story content and unexpected twists and turns.
Dom (Dominic) is EVERYTHING I want and need from my alpha's. He was domineering, tough, sexy-as-sin and despite who he is in life, has a heart of gold and morals of a good man.
Dom had demons holding him back but when he saw her, he knew what he wanted, no apologies and nothing less.
Brooklyn is a sweet, beautiful young woman and mum to Evie, trying her best to remain hidden after escaping her abusive ex. Life is good, she works in her bestfriend, Kat's cafe and her daughter is happy, even if she still has fears of her mummy being hurt.
When a meeting brings Dom into Kat's coffee shop, nothing Dom and Brooklyn once knew will ever be the same again!
This is the start of new beginnings for both Dom and Brooke. A beautifully fast paced romance blooms, and Dom' s love for both her and Evie shows it is possible to trust a man again and overcome demons that still haunt her. The way Dom protects, cares and loves both girls made me fall in love with him, EVERY. DAMN. TIME!
When Dom' s fears come to light, this read took an interesting and unexpected turn, which had my angst levels rocketing. Just so you know though, it did end in a HEA.
Both Dom and Angel (Brooklyn) are strong, sexy characters who I fell in love with from the start. Their characters are well developed throughout and the storyline flowed, keeping me interested until the end. The sex was smoking hot and the support characters stood out in their own right and enough to want to know more about, which is exactly what book 2 in the series gives us.
Being this is Kay Maree's first book her writing style is still to be developed, which is why I have rated it 4 stars. But, overall it was a great read and can only get better, a job well done. I highly recommend you add this book/series to your tbr list today!
Angel Mine is the amazing debut novel by indie author Kay Maree.
Brooklyn the female lead is a beautifully complex character. After years of suffering through emotionally and physically abuse, something unforgivable happened giving her the courage to get out.
Her best friend the strong and feisty Kat, helps her escape making a new life for her daughter and herself in Newcastle (AUS).
Brooklyn spends her days working with Kat in her coffee shop, taking care of her daughter and doing her best to replace the old horrible memories with new happy ones.
Brooklyn is also trying to heal herself and learning to trust again, she’s sick of jumping at shadows and flinching at loud noises. The last thing she is looking for in anyway shape or form is to bring a man into her life.
One day while at work her world is knocked off its axis by a pair of captivating green eyes.
Enter Dominic the sexy Alpha Mob Boss, the most powerful man in Newcastle.
He’s eyes lock with Brooklyn’s and he knows that he is done that he is lost to her and will do everything in his power to have her. But Brooklyn is delicate broken and needs to be handled with care.
I Loved this book, the characters were well written and had depth.
Things that I Loved: • the fact that although Brooklyn had been in a damaging abusive relationship she didn’t let it define her. • Although Dom is an Alpha male he recognised that Brooklyn would need time to work through her feelings. • That they discussed their past and things weren’t kept secret and that they helped each other to grow, change and learn to love again and that they were both better people for the experience
I can’t wait for the next book. This is one that I would defiantly recommend. One click people. Aussie Authors Rule!!!
Well what a surprise this book was, I won this in a Competition and I am so glad I did cause I am trying to read these books I win and discover new authors.
I absolutely loved this book and believe this was Kay Maree first book and it was such a really great story and it's written really well.
I couldn't put this book down and when I would I would be thinking about this and what was going to happen i really enjoyed the suspense and the Insta love.
I really liked Dominic and I loved how possessive he was and as soon as he saw Brooklyn he was going to make her his, he was part of the mafia and made him so much more badass and made him so sexy.
Brooklyn was such a great character and just showed us what us girls shouldn't put up with and I felt for her because when someone brings you down and start saying things that you believe it. I loved her strength that she left her fiancé especially when her daughter is involved and loved her connection between her and her daughter
I loved everything about this book especially Evie I am a big sucker for kids in a book and I absolutely loved Evie she stole the role for me but I loved her and Dominic's relationship.
If you’re looking for a Mafia, suspenseful, great story and Insta love then this one is for you
This is the first book I've read by this author and the story was amazing. Brooklyn has lived half a life, looking behind her shoulder. Afraid that her abusive ex would find her and her daughter. The last thing she ever expected was to find a love of a life time with the world's most dangerous mob boss. Dominic is the head of his crime family. His mind is focused on business until he meets Brooklyn. Meeting her makes his heart skip a beat and only one word describes what he feels in her presence. Mine. Normally I don't like books that have that Insta love feeling but it was right for this book. Brooklyn deserves to be happy and Dominic brings out the best in her and she brings out the protector in him. Love the interaction he has with Evie, Brooklyn's daughter. Makes a person wish that there were fathers like Dominic in the world. Loving and caring and protective, a way a father should be. I also loved Brooklyn's best friend Kat. She's like a red headed Betty Boop with a mouth of a sailor. Would like to read her story with Antonio. Definitely worth the read.
This is the debut book for Kay Maree and I'm so glad to be a part of this journey with her. This was a fast paced, insta romance that just melded together seamlessly. When I read the teaser, I was expecting an Italian Mafia in either Italy or USA, rather pompous assumption I know, but was pleasantly surprised it was based in Australia. Another rather pleasant surprise was to find the characters with such a sense of humor and having it sprinkled throughout the book, which made them so much more relatable. Picture this scenerio. A young, naive woman living with her boyfriend and their daughter. Unfortunately, he's abusive, and like most women she stays until he starts abusing the child and decides to leave to protect them both. While she's trying to hide from him and make a life for her and her daughter, Brooklyn meets Dominic at the coffee shop she works at. Both had given up their dreams and instead concentrated on their own harsh realities until that day when their eyes met. This had all the feel goods, angst and drama needed to keep her readers engrossed in the story and I can't wait to see where book two takes us.
I could not finish this one. The hero is supposed to be this tough guy, but his POV (voice) is "weak". This is the problem when some authors that try to write dual POVs. It is not as easy as it seems. Sometimes just stick with one POV and do it well. My opinion and one of the reasons it did not work for me.
From the hero's, Dom's, POV. "I hope she turns up. I don't know what I'll do if she doesn't. It's not like I can drop by her place and demand to know why she's not here. I don't know where she lives. I don't have a way to contact her except where she works. If she doesn't turn up, I'll be at the cafe door right on opening to find out why. Geez Dom get a fucking grip and be patient." (Loc 825)
This was an insta-love story, which usually I do not mind, but in this story it did not work for me. I was unable to connect. Kat was a bit too much
Not a fan of flashbacks either.
You may love this. Reading is subjective. This is my opinion.
