When an unexpected enemy returns from the dead, Annie’s skills are pushed to the limit.
With a vampire stalking the streets, Annie once again finds herself on the case of a lifetime. She must stop the vampire before it can fulfil its plan, and discover the mystery at the heart of it all… all while in a desperate struggle to prevent the truth about the Demon from catching up to her.
But as the bodies continue to pile up, Annie faces mounting pressure from the other wizards. Her resolve weakens and self-doubt creeps in. If she can’t solve this case then the magical world faces its biggest threat yet – a Wizard War.
As a self-proclaimed television junkie and an avid reader, Sheryl Steines writes what she loves. From the character/relationship story from one of her writing inspirations (Judy Blume), to the fantastical world of magic and mayhem in another inspiration (J.K. Rowling), to the strong female character of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sheryl uses the world of magic and mystery, mashed with a bit of detective work, to weave a story of women who face challenges, overcoming them with dignity and honesty, using her own challenges as inspiration.
Sheryl has written two books in her Wizard Hall Chronicles series (The Day of First Sun and Black Market) and working on a new series, The Empaths (Gracie Madison Feels the World). Both series introduce the reader to young women battling demons of the supernatural kind and the personal kind, each fighting to find their way.
Sheryl Steines has been writing since she was seven years old, since she picked up her first Nancy Drew novel and hasn’t stopped. When she’s not reading or writing, she can be found tooling around in her convertible, supporting causes and raising her kids, dealing with extra ordinary challenges. This is book 3 of the Wizard Hall Chronicles series, but can easily be read on its own. It is a tale of Wizard Guards whose main job is to keep magic secret from normal humans. Whether that is the use of magic or sightings of magical beings, such as vampires, etc. Book 3 carries on from the two previous books and brings back the death of Princess Amelie of Amborix, thought to have been killed by a death curse. This case is brought back into the notice of Annie Pearce, a Wizard Guard, when she receives a Paris newspaper page, with a photograph showing what looks like the dead Princess, obviously not as dead as thought.
The photo was sent without any senders details and Annie and her team must investigate asap, to cover up any news reaching the royal family of Ambroix and further affecting their countries relationships. It seems the Princess was turned into a vampire and has been let loose in Europe, with no one able to curb her hunger. She is murdering people, left and right, as her hunger and urge to feed increases, with no self-control. Annie and her partner Spencer Ray have to be diplomatic with their fellow European Wizard Guard groups, as they blame Annie and her team for the problems being caused in Europe.
Annie was the one who checked the Princess after her supposed death, to ensure she hadn’t been bitten by a vampire and wouldn’t turn. She is treated as the scapegoat for the re-appearance of the Princess and the trail of bodies she is leaving behind her. Trying to catch the new vampire is almost impossible as she has help from someone, helping her avoid the Wizard Guards and also someone helping her find places to hide throughout Europe. It seems there is a mole in someone’s Wizard Guard site.
Annie has to get an arch enemy, the old vampire Sturtagaard, to help them find Princess Amelie and stop her. Annie and her team are stepping into the jurisdictions of various European Wizard Guard units and putting their noses out quite a bit. She has to watch what she and her team do, as if they don’t keep friendly relations with their European compatriots, then a full blown wizard war could be set off, all over the missing Princess and her murder streak.
A great read, which was accompanied by the first two books in the series, in the ARC copy I received. I had already read the second book, all about goings on in the Black Market, but read it again as part of the series. The third book in the series is a good read and a chase across Europe. Vampires, blood lust, the treachery of some and the strange practices of others. I really enjoyed reading this third book and also loved the rest of the series as well. I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion above.
The first two books in this series were fun and at times intense adventures into the world Sheryl Steines created, and this one didn’t disappoint. The story was engaging and fast moving, making it extremely hard to put the book down. The characters, locations, and events were well-described and fleshed out, making the world as real as the one we live in.
The characters were just as well written, led by the main character, Annie. While intelligent, witty, and good at her job, Annie is often her own worst enemy. I can sympathize with her as I do the second guessing game, too, and it became her biggest obstacle in the story as it made her passive and the derision and grief she received from others tore into her a lot worse than it should have.
With that being said, I do have to say I felt bad for Princess Amelia as the story unfolded. She proved to be a deeper, yet more sensitive character than I expected, and most of that stemmed from other means aside from her. It’s difficult to explain, but I don’t want to say anymore as it may spoil the story. You’ll just have to read it for yourself to understand what I mean.
I love the world created by Sheryl Steines for her The Wizard Hall Chronicles, and the adventures faced by the series heroine, Annie Pearce, over its books. What starts off as a simple case of Annie, a police officer who is pulled into the FBI investigation of the high profile murder of Princess Amelie of Amborix spirals into so much more. A plot to destroy the wizard world. Threatened disintegration of the veil between the magical and non-magical worlds. A plot full of totally insane twists and turns and convoluted conspiracy. This only continues in Wizard War (Book 3) as Annie finds out her solving Princess Amelie’s murder was not an ending - as the princess has risen as a demon walking the streets of Paris on the way to a lovely murderous streak across Europe. Action and thrills ensue, with unexpected alliances and the by now expected lovely plot twists. Total fun? Absolutely.
Just finished reading all three books in The Wizard Hall Chronicles. Great continuity within all three books with characters you get to know. Definitely worth a read.
Wizard War- Book 3 in the Wizard Hall Chronicles collection. Wizard War is Like a fast-paced action, with a splash of mystery. Annie Pearce had to investigate again when she received a Paris newspaper page with photograph showing Princess Amelie of Amborix, believed she was doomed by a death spell but Apparently not as dead as believed.
Since there was no senders name in the photograph Annie and her team had to investigate this as soon as possible since Princess became a vampire and was set loose in Europe, with no one around to control her need. It was really difficult for Annie to face the situation since she and her team was being blamed for this situation. Also the vampire was getting help from someone, who helped her to get avoided by the wizard guards. But eventually Annie got help from the old vampire Sturtagaard to find the princess turned vampire.
What's going to happen next? Will Annie and her team be able to control the situation which can lead to a wizard war fully blown. Must read it to have an amazing quest around Europe. Being a Vampire and Mystery lover I totally enjoyed reading it in just two goes and it has it all Vampires, Mystery , Lust and Chase.
Wizard War is the third book in the Wizard Hall Chronicles and it follow the plot set in the previous books beautifully. The main character Annie is well developed and the world Ms. Steines has created is also very well developed. This is an action adventure that you will have a very difficult time putting own. I recommend this book as well as the series. Received a copy from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.
