The M.I.L.K. collection of photographs aims to depict the joy, heartbreak and love that shape and make up our lives. Introduced by Maeve Binchy, this second volume expresses the sweetness of true friendship - the laughter and happiness in sharing life's pleasures with another. The photos were selected by Elliot Erwitt from 1000s entered by professional and amateur photographers to explore the idea of friendship.
Anne Maeve Binchy Snell was an Irish novelist, playwright, short story writer, columnist, and speaker. Her novels were characterised by a sympathetic and often humorous portrayal of small-town life in Ireland, and surprise endings. Her novels, which were translated into 37 languages, sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Her death at age 73, announced by Vincent Browne on Irish television late on 30 July 2012, was mourned as the death of one of Ireland's best-loved and most recognisable writers. She appeared in the US market, featuring on The New York Times Best Seller list and in Oprah's Book Club. Recognised for her "total absence of malice" and generosity to other writers, she finished third in a 2000 poll for World Book Day, ahead of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Stephen King.
If you ever hear that a M.I.L.K exhibition is going to be on display, run don't walk to go see it. What an amazing project M.I.L.K. is and what an amazing collection of photograhps that are absolutely stunning and emotion stirring. We just happened upon a M.I.L.K. open air exhibit on a vacation trip to Seattle a few years ago. We were on our way to "sight seeing" destination, but had a few minutes to kill...and those minutes turned into over an hour being in awe of the exhibit and having to pick up a book from the exhibit. I only wish I had bought more of these books to give to people I am blessed to call my friends and are photography lovers and "moments/emotion" historians too.
