New Olympians #4

Swift Wings

Rate this book
A M/M Non-shifter MPREG Romance.

The winds of change are blowing, and even Hermes must choose a side…

The Messenger of the Gods has been a neutral party in the war between the immortal Olympian gods for centuries. Zeus and his brothers on one side; Hera and her sisters on the other… there will be no peace between them while jealousy festers and anger and resentment keep their hold on the hearts of the gods. Hermes has seen it all, and listened, while both parties have ranted and raved about their mistreatment at the hands of the other. But when will it be his turn?

The nursery at Olympus has been filling with noise and laughter, but while Hermes’ uncles seek their own perfect match, he wallows in denial that the prophecy was even meant for him. How can he truly stay neutral in this war when his heart is pledged to the mortal who would bear his children? It’s not fate he’s avoiding, it’s the knowledge that everything he is will be compromised. It would only take one moment of weakness, and every alliance that he has worked so hard to build will be shattered.

Noah isn’t a one-night-stand kind of guy, but when it comes to Lukas, he’s made a month’s worth of exceptions. A triathlete in the depths of competition training, Noah doesn’t have time for much more, but there’s something about Lukas that makes him want more than what’s currently on offer… and frankly, he’s tired of waking up alone. All it takes is one moment of strength, one step towards what he wants, and everything will change forever, but Noah has no idea what kind of change is coming, or what it will mean for his future.

Swift Wings is book 4 in the New Olympians series. 35,000 words, with a HEA featuring a fiercely independent omega and a flighty alpha-god to claim him.

I love Noah... that said, I hate Hermes. He is an unmitigated, self-centered ass who thinks he knows better that anyone else, including Zeus. Since this is a HEA of course Noah and Hermes end up together at the end. It is too bad that I am pretty sure Hermes still has his head firmly lodged up his ass at the end of this book and it's a good thing he and Noah have eternity to work on their relationship since Hermes is likely to screw up repeatedly for the thousand years at least. Anyway I give the story 5 stars, Noah gets 5 stars and Hermes gets 3 stars. Just wish he had been a bit more likeable.

I loved this book. This is Hermes' story. The difference here was that Hermes being the middleman between Gods and Goddesses had a unique position of neutrality. He was in contact with both, he was aware more or less of what was happening on both sides. I both liked and disliked him. Some things he did in regards to Noah caused me to question his moral compass but he came through in the end with flying colors. Noah was not easy to figure out. He is neither difficult nor simple but just in-between. It felt like those two were created for each other - so perfect, both constantly on the move.

This book had less action but more exploration of feelings between both MCs, the Gods and Goddesses. It had more intimate and cozy moments between Noah and Hermes making it possible to get to know them, and for them to build a relationship. The secondary characters were more involved this time, and all the characters from previous books made appearance. This book has mpreg elements, and ends on a cliffhanger. And now I really want to know about Ares. He is a volatile unknown here. I highly recommend it!

I hate to say it, but this is probably my least favorite story in the whole series so far, and I am super bummed about that because I was really looking forward to Hermes' story.

Hermes has tried to remain neutral between the gods and the goddesses, since he still communicates with both his brothers, father, and uncle, and also his sisters who are the ones who cursed the men. He does find his spark, although he refuses to believe it's Noah for several months.

Several things just didn't work for me as a reader in this story. The pacing felt really off...and very jumpy. It seemed like weird amounts of time passed between Noah and Hermes' relationship, and we didn't even get to see their first moments and first time together. They met when Noah had a bike accident, and then in the span of one short paragraph, three months have passed and they're still in the booty call phase. I think because of this time jump it was really hard for me to believe that Noah loved Hermes/Lukas - he knew literally nothing about him, and it didn't seem like they spent any time together that wasn't sex. I didn't get that connection between the two. And then even after when everything has been revealed, things just seemed to jump ahead.

I also was never sure what Noah was doing as a job and athletically - how old is he? Was he really training for the Olympics? If so, how did he not have another job? Because that's expensive, getting the funds to finance that path. Even if you're a triathlon competitor, don't you usually have jobs? Unless they're huge and have sponsors and advertising deals, so...I don't know, it just didn't flow for me.

I also wish that we could get a god who was actually happy about getting the spark and also open and honest with him about what was going on. C'mon guys, communicate! Everyone is slipping the ambrosia into drinks and food, and then explaining what's going on. I think Cameron was already pregnant when Zeus told him who he really was? I would love to see just a different formula to how things are revealed.

(Also - and I don't lower ratings for this in arcs because I don't know what the final version looks like - but there were noticeably more errors with words, punctuation, mistakes than I have ever seen in this series)

I will say, I really loved seeing Cameron, Brooke, and Gideon again - I think the scenes with Cameron were some of my favorite in the whole book!

Looking forward to more stories in this series, and I hope that the next one will get things back on track for me.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I'm getting annoyed at how the gods are acting with their sparks. They seem to be unable to have adult conversations and not act without really thinking things through. I always thought that Hermes would be more mature since he is a messenger. I wanted to slap him with how he was acting.

Hermes finds his spark, but acts like a Grade A jerk. He didn't want to think about being able to find his spark, so he just treats Noah like a booty call. Noah feels like he is being used by everyone and finding out Hermes' secret pushes him past his limit. Both guys crave each other and need to admit their feelings to themselves and each other.

The last chapter with Ares is great and makes me ready to read his book. Things are going to change and I can't wait!

This is still a decent book, but I'm frustrated and angry with Hermes and his behavior. I enjoyed getting the bit of information about the goddesses and the sparks.

I received an ARC of this book from LesCourt Author Services. This is my honest opinion and review.

Hermes is a God on the fence who likes to see himself as being neutral in the aftermath of the curse but with Hera getting more and more unstable each time a God finds his fated mate it is his turn now to beat all odds and race to the side of his beloved and no one can match his speed.

Nope. Dint really feel this one.
Only two things made me happy:

1) We finally know from which Goddesses the sparks descended from.

2) We see more of the kids and the Goddesses.

And that’s it. Everything else? Dint wow me at all. The author skipped a SHITLOAD of time between when Hermes and Noah’s first meeting and how they became sex buddies, effectively ruining the chance for me to become invested in whatever might flourish between them later on.

Noah dint respect himself whatsoever. The only reason he left Hermes/Lucas treat him like trash was because “he was lonely” but also he knew what Hermes and he had was a fuck buddies relationship yet he was angry and disappointed every time he woke up the morning after and Hermes was gone. Newsflash darling, that’s how sex buddies work.

I really, really like that we know from which goddesses the sparks come from and we get to see more of Aphrodite, Athena and a little bit of Persephone.

The whole Hermes giving the Ambrosia and getting Noah pregnant without his consent was shitty as fuck. Hermes also (before Hermes getting him pregnant) fucked him without a condom even though Noah asked him to get one with the excuse that they ran out of them (which was a lie) and just proceeded to fuck him bare. Shitty as fuck and I would have kicked his ass, God or not.

Noah, of course, continued to forget and forgive him constantly and just when you thought he was growing some balls, gaining some self-respect and was about to chew Hermes ass, Hermes smiled/hugged/spoke/breathed near his presence/fucked him, and Noah forgot all of his anger and let Hermes do whatever he wanted again. What a weak character.

I just dint feel invested in this relationship at all.

I love all the old Greek myths, so getting to see any author put a new spin on the old tales is pretty awesome. I love how CJ Vincent is handling her version of the Greek gods.

The goddesses got tired of the gods spreading themselves far and wide, so they all banded together and cursed the gods. Any mortal lover the god would take would then die painfully when they got the seed of the gods. Millenia have gone by while the gods are trying to figure out how to break the curse. They finally found a loophole.

Hermes has watched his father Zeus and his uncles Poseidon and Hades find their spark, fall in love, and have children. Hermes has convinced himself that he doesn't need to find his spark and that finding him would jeopardize his position as a neutral messenger of the gods, one who has maintained a relationship with both sides, but his spark is making it really difficult to ignore him.

Poor Hermes. He is so conflicted. it has to be hard to be him. He feels so much responsibility. But Noah, his spark, is in his head and heart and Noah wants more. The connection between the two of them is great and the way that they end up resolving their conflicts works so well.

Hermes has been on the fence of the war between the Gods and Goddesses... but it's time for him to choose which side he is going to land on. He has alliances on both sides but how can he be a neutral player in this game when it's his mortal love and child being threatened.
Known as Lukas, by his lover Noah... Hermes has been acting like they are only a fling, he is trying to keep him safe....but they both want more and change us about to turn both their worlds upside down.

I love these men... they are sweet, sexy, fun and wonderful. Noah is independent and not afraid to ask for what he wants and need, he is a strong and capable athlete but is loving and not afraid of emotions. Lukas is someone who wants to keep peace, to keep people safe. The are great characters and their story is entertaining and well told.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

I really like the whole curse storyline and mythology in this series, and am excited to see where it goes with Ares' story next. This installment focuses on Hermes, who has just seemed (forgive the pun, it could not be helped) flighty throughout the series so far. In this story, we see how his role as messenger to the gods has been affected by the curse and how he has straddled the line without choosing a side for centuries. I really, really liked his spark, Noah. Hermes, though? I had a hard time with his character in this book and how he treats Noah. I get why it was difficult for him, but I thought Noah deserved better. Hermes just made crappy choices that made it hard to like him more, and the resolution felt like it happened a little too quickly and was glossed over a bit. That said, Noah is a gem and I hope to see more of him settling into his new life in future books. And that peek into Ares' story at the end?? Hello, secrets. Can't wait to see what his story is!

Odd that the HEA happened in the rather long epilogue

Once again, I'm amazed at the shortsightedness of the goddesses in creating this curse. They prevented the gods from philandering and creating demigods, but they've also doomed themselves because it's not like hers is allowing any of them to have children either. While I can see many of them agreeing to Hera's plan, I don't really understand how Athena could have gone along with something so patently unwise, or Aphrodite against her very nature. Especially now that all of the big three have found their true mates, what do Hera, Persephone, and Amphitrite hope to gain? They've guaranteed that their ex husbands will be faithful, but never to them. And the only way that they can hope to get anything is to overthrow the gods, but they tried that already and were very soundly beaten.

Another nice story in this series as the Gods continue “rebuilding” Olympus. We see much more drama this time around especially since Hermes still sees some of the goddesses. I felt more frustration in Hera’s double standards with her grudge.

Hermes makes a couple really big mistakes he is just lucky that Noah is willing to forgive after some groveling. I liked Noah and hope that his life on Olympus makes him happy since he never really broke away from his life. I look forward to Ares story next, it looks like it will be interesting.

Hermes/Lukas feels as if he is constantly balancing everything since he is in contact with both sides of the curse. He has been "with" Noah for months but refuses to take it beyond the physical aspect for fear of Noah being identified as his spark. There are times that you will want to smack him but the underlying emotions he has will have you understanding why he makes the choices he does.

Noah is patient but that is reaching the end. He lives for his sport but finds himself wishing for more from Lukas. Then he finds out what Lukas's real story is and begins to doubt so much. Their HEA is hard fought but a wonderful read.

Good

I received this book by the author and this is my honest opinion.
This was the turn of Hermes and his spark noah. Although I enjoyed this book it wasn't quite up to par with the others. Hermes I wanted to slap with his treatment of Noah and standoffish behaviour of commitment. Though this book wasn't the big danger plot for the spark and the goddesses actions against them it was still good as Hermes is actually the son instead of the brother and so wasn't automatically out on the goddesses 💩 list. Another good well written story and I look forward to the next one

This is the fourth book in The New Olympians Series. A sensational book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. The characters were developed and thought out. Hermes and Noah are the MC’s of this book and mates. I can recommend this as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Ok, this one was way better than anticipated. It had a new twist to it because of the interactions with the goddesses. But Hermes turns out to be the same shifty guy he is portraied to be in other books or films. To give Noah the ambrosia without talking to him about it is just a very shitty move.
4 stars from me for the guts to go through with it.

I was looking forward to Hermes’ story, and while I did enjoy it, it wasn’t my favorite of the series. Hermes/Lukas was a bit annoying. He was too self absorbed, which almost seemed the opposite of what he was supposed to be or what he tried to be. It was good that there was less attempted murder in this (lol), and the drama was all of the relationship kind. I do feel like a little something was missing in the way Noah went from angry and not wanting anything to do with Hermes to ready to move to Olympus. I hated the way Hermes handled telling Noah about himself (for Noah’s sake), but realize he acted on pure desire to keep him safe from the goddesses. It made sense that Noah would be angry and confused, and I felt bad that he had to deal with all of his life changes alone, but I did respect the way Hermes eventually let Noah make his own decisions and come back when he was ready. I wish we had a little more on how Noah’s life changed and what he was giving up (his training—will he never do that again?). Noah has friends and family, much more than the other sparks, so how does that play into his future? There could’ve been more depth there.

That said, this series is so interesting and I am loving it. I’m really excited to see what is going on with Ares!!
