It was after his identical twin Bill suffered the traumatic brain injury that left him crippled and unable to speak. George would see the man sitting on a bench at the mall, or at the store standing by the magazines. But he never seemed to notice George, not even when he tried to communicate.
Twenty years later, after dropping out of college to care for Bill, George has become a junior high school janitor. Between his struggling with debt, working a physically demanding job, and taking care of Bill’s needs, life has not been easy.
But George doesn’t know the meaning of difficult until the man finally acknowledges him, triggering a terrifying series of supernatural events that leaves George and Bill running for their lives. And as George struggles to protect his twin from an otherworldly evil, he discovers a startling secret about Bill—one that leaves him questioning decades-old assumptions and wondering which of them truly is the stronger half.
Quick story but written in a very choppy manner. Little short chapters that didn't allow the reader to know the characters. The results were you couldn't care much about them. It seemed that each chapter was a repeat of the previous one. Only the place changed. The dialogue repeated and repeated. I am annoyed that I paid $2.99 for it. Not interested in the author's remaining works.
I'm excited for this writer. I see great things coming! This book had both ups and downs for me. On the down side, I was a little impatient with the story. I felt it could have been shorter and had the same affect on me. On the up side, I fell in love with the characters. I felt like I knew them like old friends. I will definitely keep reading this author's work.
I completely loved this book. Once I started reading The Stronger Half, I had a hard time putting it down! I was completely drawn in to the story. Each time I read a chapter, I thought to myself, "I want to know what is next!" I would rationalize, "Oh the next chapter is short. I'll stay up longer a bit longer and read it too." I ended up staying up way too late finishing the book because I was so drawn into the characters and wanted to know what would happen to George and Bill! Also of course, I wanted to know about "the Man."! I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author!
I've read a lot of this author's stories on his website and he's got a lot of great stuff, but this one fell a little short. It reads like a short story that got fluffed out into a novel and lost something in the process. But there's a lot of potential here. I'm really looking forward to reading more by this author.
An amazing story. The strong bond and selfless devotion that the twins have for each other made me fall in love with them. The characters are well developed and the story flows smoothly although it doesn't take you where you expect to go. That is something I love about this writter. The story grabs you and you just don't want to put the book down! Helpful Report
The story itself was good but I agree that this is a short story not a novel. It was very redundant which is frustrating to say the least. I felt like I was reading the same chapter over and over again with a snippet of new information. After reading this book I will probably not read another one by this author.
This book was very good. I liked that had suspense and that it was fantasy. Kept me reading. I had difficulty with the back and forth of present and past but that could just be me. I would recommend this book.
I thought I was going on an epic adventure, only to find out the ending was anticlimactic! I had to read the book through because that's what I do... I was disappointed.
Full disclosure: I won a signed copy of this book in a drawing done by the author.
I really loved this book. It's not overly long, but it's a full story that left nothing feeling like it was unnecessary or superfluous, nothing felt forced, and it was a real page-turner. Once I started reading this book, I had a lot of trouble putting it down even just to go to sleep because I needed to know what happened next.
I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there was a disabled character as one of the main focuses and main characters of the book, and how incredibly loved and cared for he was by his brother. I liked seeing his journey just as much as I liked seeing his brother's. He was absolutely a character that I found myself fully immersed with and cared about completely.
The villain was scary and the overarching mystery and plot were intriguing and kept me speculating until the very end. Very Loveraftian in a lot of ways, if you ask me, as well, which was a very happy surprise.
And, yes...some tears were shed during the reading of this book.
I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to read this book. It's definitely become one of my favorites.
