Book 1 in the Myth Protector Series As they fight a war of good and evil in our world, the Fairy Tales need a protector.
All I wanted to do was take a break from college to check out LegendFest, some good ol' cosplay, and maybe find a lady to hit it off with. You never know, right?
My life took a new direction, though, when I found out myths like Red Riding Hood are real, and they’re in an ongoing war against evil to save us all. More than that, they are being hunted, mistaken as humanity's enemy. They need a mortal to serve as their protector, someone to keep them out of harm's way while leading the battle against the likes of the Big Bad Wolf, Baba Yaga, and other evil legends.
Now, I am that protector.
It's a tough job, but it's everything I've ever dreamed of. Even more so when Red and some of the other ladies show interest in me in more ways than just my ability to wield a magic blade.
And here's a warning: it gets saucy. We have fun on the streets and even more in the sheets, so you might not want to hear my tale if sexy fun scares you more than witches and ghouls. If you're a fan of Once Upon a Time or Fables/Wolf Among Us but also enjoy harem and the spice of life, this book's for you.
After working on Marvel and other games and traveling the world, Jamie Hawke decided to settle down and write fun, quirky, and sexy pulp science fiction and superhero books.
You'll find his harem gamelit books in Kindle Unlimited and Audio, and might want to start with Supers: Ex Heroes 1. The book reached #47 in the Amazon store, including #1 Bestseller in multiple categories (to include Superhero, Cyberpunk, and Colonization).
It all started when Jamie was eleven, creating nude superhero comics with his best friend. What perverts! But hey, they were fun and provided good fodder for jokes up into their adult years. Now the stories have evolved, but they capture that same level of fun. Hopefully you will enjoy them as much as the author loved writing them!
Jamie also spent five years in Marine Corps intelligence, studied Muay Thai in Thailand, and lived in Japan for over three years. A lot of this plays into Jamie's books.

I know this is a Gamelit Harem Fantasy adventure, and going into it I know not to expect greatness, but sometimes it seems like author's are just going through the motions with telling the story. I wasn't a huge fan of this book. I didn't really like the fairy tale creature aspect. The myths were completely different from what I knew, also there were too many of them. There was some from Disney, the Brothers Grimm, and everything in between, but there wasn't much background into the differences. The premise of the story was hard to follow, including which character were good, which where bad, and why. The whole Gamelit component was poorly written. The action was hard to follow and not believable. The training session was pathetic. While I have read other reviews that mention that there is a lot of sex in this book, I have to add a caveat. There is a lot of TALK about sex in the first 3/4 of the book, before the actual sex. All the relationships seemed kind of forced. Usually there starts to be a little chemistry between the characters before the sex talk or suggestions begin. This book decided to go the other way and start with the sexual suggestions way before there was any actual chemistry
Jack and pal Chris go to Anaheim Conference Centre to LegendFest, where Jack enjoys encounters with a variety of sexy versions of Disney Princesses, while Chris tries his luck with more 'earthy' companions, in Jamie Hawkes' latest GameLit Harem adventure. When Jack is enticed by monetary rewards to take part in a sleep study, little does he know his life will never be the same again! Is it all a dream, insinuated into his sleeping mind by the drugs he takes as part of the trial? Or will Jack never return to his boring 9-5 existence and the daily rat-race after all? With a luscious 'harem' of Myths - Pucky, daughter of the woodland demi-god, Elisa, the swan princess and even Red Riding Hood, (once Jack and his ladies have rescued her and beaten the evil Peter Pan, Captain Hook and even Sharon, aka the Big Bad Wolf) - and rising levels of power and strength to help him feel and look better than he ever does in 'real' life', will Jack, now the eponymous 'Myth Protector', actually want to return?
You'll have to buy this rip-roaring romp to find out, (strictly for over 18s only)...it'll take your breath away in more ways than one!
The writing is just off, I've read fanfic with more thought and structure then the first few chapters of this book. Seems like a rush of ideas that didn't have time to really coallese in a proper story. Nothing grabs you and there are several moments where I questioned what the hell was going on. Couldnt get past the first couple chapters would not recommend.
I enjoyed this book it has a unique twist on the fairytales we all read about as a kid. The MC was fun to read about and was funny at times. Story was fast paced and full of action. Overall a good book to read.
Ok, first I am not a prude, but this was penthouse letters quality graphic. It was also definitely porn from a male point of view, a male sex fantasy novel if you will. Lacking real characters with depth, featuring women whose only exhibited 3 dimensional qualities are in the descriptions of the size of their breasts or their asses. If that is what you are looking for, a masturbatory interlude, then this is the book for you. Potential the author could write a broader based book, but this is not that book.
Fast Paced High Action James is cast into a world where myths are real, kind of. The characters are real, but their actual actions might not actually match the stories about them.
Mythical characters have divided into two factions, the Legends are the enemy, and working in cooperation with the government, purportedly to wipe all Myths from the world. A lot of liberty / freedom taken with who is on each side, as apparently its a choice in large independent of the underlying character traits of the myth.
Primary story is very ambiguous regarding what a protector is and how they do things. The LitRPG aspect comes in as Protectors are unique, and have the ability to level up with a class and abilities.
Fast paced action, pretty much revolves around fighting, sex, and training. Kind of like Jersey Shores GTL. The Protector's initial crew / recruiters are Red (Red riding hood) who has a cool and very powerful red cape with a hood), and Pucky (of Shakespearean "mythology"). Later a third joins the crew, Elisa the swan lady (I think from the 12 days of Christmas). A lot of explicit adult situations pepper the whole book, (as in spicy).
A lot of characters referenced, but a heavy handed application of "the book about them wasn't really telling the whole story" allowed them to be little more than a jumping off point for a character. Many were only mentioned in passing as either dead or out of play.
Legends can make Shades, imparting some of their power into them, which is then conveniently available when anyone in the protectors crew kills a shade, to help the protector level up. Not a bad mechanic.
Several battles leading up to a conflict with Riak, who becomes Morganna Le Fey in the process of bringing King Arthur back from the "dead", and who of course is now a Legend / bad guy. James ends up with Excalibur in the process, making him a twice-marked target for the forces of evil. His best friend Chris was used as a puppet against him, coerced by the Legends.
Sharon (aka the big bad wolf) was playing for the bad side but gets converted back to good, and joins the team at the end of the story).
This book has too much smut even for a harem story and it is just written weirdly as well as being a bit crass. The characters are going at it so much that it can be difficult keeping track of the plot. The protagonist meets a woman and within hours (story time, not audiobook time) she goes from shy to the following quote before they ride a motorbike into an enemy base:
"She grabbed my hand, moved it to her crotch and said "In case we get shot, I want to feel that with my last breath.""
Then we get to:
"I barely know you but in my mind we've already fucked at least a dozen times."
And the entire story only covers a few days! It could be argued as being very, very sex positive but really the main character is just a bit of a Gary Stu.
Then there is the levelling system whereby people in the real world who discover myths/legends can apparently choose a class and "level up" by defeating enemies. This is why the book is tagged as LitRPG but it was so bizarre that I think what little plot there is would be better without it.
The language is uninspired too. Cock and pussy are used almost exclusively and get very repetitive, very quickly. I'm guessing this was self published.
From a narration standpoint, 1x sounds unnatural. I think the book recording was slowed down to boost the runtime before it was added to the Plus Catalogue. I usually listen at roughly normal speed but on this I found 1.5x to be about the right mark for the book to sound natural.
Then there is a preview of the next book at the end and that is 45 minutes!! So rather than a 7 hour book you get 6 hours which at a decent speed is nearer 4. And at the end point we haven't reached a proper ending at all, no victory, no final task just a step into the next book.
Luckily this was free otherwise I'd be returning it. It's a shame because if the plot had been explored a bit more there were some potentially good ideas in here.
This is a thought dump, not a review, so there may be spoilers... you've been warned.
So I've read a few of Jaime Hawke's books now and there are three things that are consistent his stories. He uses gamelit to simplify his power systems and make is so that he never has ht o explain anything. He loves writing about sex, but only the male power fantasy kind. Finally, he never really devotes times to character development.
Now there really isn't anything wrong with the first two, I mean when you simplify you power/magic system to what the readers are mostly familiar with it saves time and word count. Plus, I can't fault him for his obsession with male power fantasy sex, I'm a guy and i share similar fantasies. But the lack of character is really getting to me.
The first 200 pages of Myth Protector is nonstop action and flirting. The characters are introduced as simple archetypes that never break there molds. Jack is an average nerd that has adventure dropped in his lap. The female characters are just as one note and mostly just different stereotypes of attractive women. There finally is some down time after the first 200 pages but it focuses on a training montage and sex. We learn nothing new about any of the character, they all just come off as boring. This is a problem that many of his stories have and they start to feel very samie after a while.
The description of this book compares itself to "Fables" but other then the premise that isn't remotely true. Myth Protector has little to no character, a generic story and none of the charm that either "Fables" has. I probably won't be continuing with this series but if you like cheesy no stop action and sex with a fairytale flavor then you may find some enjoyment here, but I didn't. This one was a little to simplistic, even for me.
This was a pretty good book. I gotta say, though, there was a LOT of sex. Good on the main character for getting his, but in a lot of places it just seemed forced, almost. Like "where do I go from here? Guess they should have sex!" "Just escaped the law with someone you just met? Handjob in a car!" I mean...cool for being adventurous and all that, but some of the time it was like the OTHER action was being rushed and details kinda glossed over so they could get to the next sex scene. And the fact that sex is brought up ALL THE TIME got old too. Cool, they are all horn dogs. Got it. But the more technical aspects of the book seem like they were added as an after thought. The system used to level being just like a video game? Oh, yeah, a Myth took of and created at rpg formula we all know and love in Japan all those years ago. Really? There could have been a much better system put in place. The writing and story did get better towards the end, but even the last battle was poorly described and a lot of information was left up to the readers imagination of how things went. All in all, not a bad read...if it gets a second in the series, I may read it. But not really sure if I will or not. We shall see.
This book was painful to get through. Despite the passable writing I couldn't shake the feeling that this book is supposed to be aimed at teens but the sex and harem force it to be for 'Mature Audiences'. I can see a 15 or a 16 year old thinking that the main character and his motivations are cool and relatable but nobody older. The dialogue isn't poorly written as much as it is just annoying. The MC comes off as horny, selfish manchild and I found myself not only not caring weather he survived or got laid, but actively hoping something bad would happen just to interrupt his smug inner monologue.
I feel the author might have some talent if no so hung up on making a cookie cutter harem to appeal to a (barely) New Adult straight male market.
TL;DR Annoying characters, predictable plot and shallow development, give it a miss.
2,5 points from 5. A book like a burger from McDonalds. There are million better burgers out there but it fills the gap. Young nerd on a nerd convention is selected as "the protector" for myth characters (like Red Ridinghood etc.). Myth is very wide defined - from thor over the seven dwarves to peter pan and Mogli. There are a lot unmotivated sex scenes (well - it says harem book in the description but I have missed that) and the MC goes from incompetent to fighter in maybe 4 pages. At least the fight scenes were okay and the sex scenes were better written than in a lot other of these fantasy harem books. The MC has an interface and choose classes and levels - so it can be defined as "gamelit" in a very liberal way. Nevertheless I needed something without any need to think while reading and this filled it.
It was so much fun to read this book. The whole concept was unique with your favorite nursery rhymes, Grimm's fairy tales, Disney movie and or storybook characters come to life and either being good (myth) or bad (legend). Throw in your clueless main character who becomes the protector of the myths, then sit back and let the fun begin!!
The action had me on the edge of my seat. Plus what guy out there wouldn't want to have sex with a Disney Princess? I can not wait for the next book in this series because the bad guy at the end I was NOT expecting!!!
If you are a fan of the GameLit/RPG harem genre then this book is for you!!
So Cheap Harem Fantasy, about a Jock Nerd Fratboy Geek who gets all the girls or something. There are certain parts where I did start to get sucked in but then it would be ruined by over the top cheap dialogue. The same with most books of this type if more of the story was focused on, over cheap humor and describing how sleazy the girls are, then maybe it would be enjoyable.
When you read giving small but pointed descriptors are more powerful than detailed over the top descriptions. Readers tend to enjoy books more when they can fill in blanks with things they enjoy more than just what the writer is trying to force the reader to enjoy.
The story is…different, at least for me, although I understand there are similar series out there. Fairy Tale characters are divided between Myths (good) and Legends (bad). It boils down to the age-old good versus evil trope. Our sex-weary hero Jack, at a LegendFest convention, is being considered for recruitment by both sides. His addiction to video games, and his attraction to a display sword, sealed the deal. Jack was convinced to join the Myths. Now, aside from the numerous sex scenes, the battle for good versus evil commences. And there are numerous sexcapades. If you are not into this type of series, I suggest you pass. Three.point.five.
I don’t know if the author was on any meds when he thought this concept up, but I bet it would’ve helped. This is some crazy stuff, and all done rapid-fire. Amazingly though, it all works, which is a testament to how well it was written. It’s wild enough where I think it’ll be something people either love or hate. I thought it was delightful. Try it and see. Recommended!
This is definitely a book written for guys that fantasize about getting multiple women with no effort or blowback.
If you don't take the story seriously, it is pretty entertaining. I started skipping some of the sex scenes as he was super-human and could bring several women one right after the other to orgasm before having his own. Total fantasy.
Going through all of the fairytale characters was fun.
Jack attends a convention of fantasy and fairy tale driven themes. Along the way, he is tested for his potential to be the Protector of fairy tale characters in their war to keep humanity safe. He isn't sure, but the allure of his sexy teammates overcomes any reservations he has. I like the action, humor, and lust (love?). I look forward to the next book.
A new spin on fairy tales. I'll admit I was worried on how the take fairy tales would go... Needing a protector why would they need protecting is someone after their ******* Is it a harem, yeah most definitely. Is it done tastefully, definitely. If you want a quick read that's good fun then give this a taste.
Gamer Jack gets bitten by a werewolf, then finds out he's a newbie hero - if he survives. I'm guessing it's the same universe as the author's monster girl series, because there is the same division of Myths as the good guys and Legends as either evil or neutral. Well edited. Fun.
This book is super fast paced. There are a ton of spots that i feel like we are only given a small glimpse of what could be a pretty damn cool world. Hopefully the next book takes some time to give us more info on how the Myths actually live.
This was an interesting take on fairytales and myths. The characters were interesting and fun to see. I wasn’t sure at first but it caught me as I read and turned int a good fun read.
Like the basis but found the flow to be rushed and having gaps. Very detailed scene one moment then a one sentence transition. Over all a fun romp but the author has done better.
Great storyline, great characters. I can't wait for more in this series. I love his other books and can't wait for more of them to come out. Expecting a third planet kill book to help tie things together. Keep up the great writing.
Not my cup of tea. The protagonist sounds like a 15 year olds only thinks with his little head. I keep trying to force myself to finish it. I just keep getting more and more annoyed at how backwards and childish the protagonist sounds. I don't fault anyone who likes it. Just not for me.
Got 60% through the book before I finally gave up. The narrative felt like a confusing and poorly assembled mashup of ideas and gimmicks which failed to form into a cohesive or engaging story while the characters felt bland and utterly forgettable.
