THIS HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE SOMETHING MORE. INTERESTING, BUT IT DIDN'T CAPTIVATE ME AS MUCH AS A DARK ROMANCE WILL. IT DOES HAVE ANGST, BUT A MILD ONE.
MICHAEL is supposed to be the cold, love em' leave em' kind but from the start he just struck me as charming. Maybe it's because I skipped a few books before coming to his story but yes I do like Michael's alpha dominance. Since I don't really know the organization he's working for in detail, we know for a fact that Michael's been attracted to his sexy, beautiful neighbour ever since he laid eyes on her. For some reason, they both skirted around their fiery chemistry for months. Until one night, when two Russian men appeared in Isabelle's home, Michael didn't hesitate to put a bullet in their heads. Ironically, those men were there for Isabelle and what started as a simple connection becomes complicated when he discovers that the woman he's lusting after is the wife of a dangerous man who owns Las Vegas. Despite having no obligations toward Isabelle, his attraction to her and basically his dick will make him stay just to keep her safe.
ISABELLE herself appears shallow and ditzy, a very beautiful woman who just can't afford to break a nail, loves shopping and doesn't ever do without lingerie or heels. BUT, Isabelle's a woman fortified by the wrongs of her past and what she had to endure. Not everyone is lucky to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth. At 13, she was raped by her brother's friend and her brother himself was an ass who told her to suck it up. No love there. It was then she realized that her body is just a weapon, a trade for protection and favours. It's not a favourable disposition, especially from a third person knowing Isabelle, you'd think she works like a prostitute...just a high class version because she doesn't sell herself by the streets but is more picky with her clientele. Isabelle soon becomes a skilled thief and got mixed up in bad company. I honestly think she's intelligent, but for a smart woman she can also be stupid with pride and greed. When a heist goes wrong ends up with her married to a mob boss, life will never be the same.
OVERALL this was average. I enjoyed it but I don't think it will stick around in my memory for long. It's like the story was building to something great but just fizzed out halfway. Also, the ending didn't feel entirely ENOUGH. When Isabelle ran out on Michael and months later he gets her back, he doesn't forgive her yet...so where does that leave them? But, yes we do get a HEA.

Love Hurts
Black Surrender is the third book in this dark world of the mafia where we learn more about the war between factions. Not only does Michael discover how the right woman can get inside his head, he has to face the demons which come along with it. The author does a great job of getting the reader to feel the pain and agony of this discovery from both his and her perspectives. As always, the sex scenes are quite steamy, this storyline bordering on obsession/possession as Michael was raised to be hard and heartless, yet his stony heart begins to get cracks of compassion along the way. It will be interesting to see where Michael fits into the next couple of books, as I’m sure I’ll be seeing much more of him, and how his methodology changes based on his new responsibilities and focus on life.

What a read! Fans out ladies, this one is almost too hot to handle!
I've loved the other books in the series, (I read them a little out of order but that doesn't seem to matter) but this book beats all the rest, hands down. The enigmatic Michael Black has always seemed so emotionless, but Isabelle Sterling has brought the man to his knees in the sexiest, most action-packed book of the series yet. The interaction and dialogue seem so natural between the two main characters, and with the delicious Anto woven through the intricate and intriging plot the story takes on a pace that I've not seen with the others. The book is a complete page turner. the plot is tight and edgy. Not a word is wasted. Absolutely loved it!

Michael was the main draw for me in this book. He had hidden depths. I like that he gave Isabelle the security she needed but also insisted she would be by his side. Both characters have had some harsh events happen in their lives so it made their coming together so much sweeter for me. I love the backstory going on which makes me excited to get to the next book in the series.

I love me some bossy sun of a guns!
Isabelle and Michael are made for each other in this story. For one of them, the past is catching up, and for the other it's just another day in their world. On their own they did well, but together they were awesome.
This story was hot, funny, and intense. The author did a great job writing something so entertaining.

A simple case of the wrong room? Not quite. This is a wild ride on the dark side. This one will keep you looking for spots in the day when you can steal a few minutes and read more. I'm not even going to give this one away. Great read.
