The town of Bringham--once a peaceful, God-fearing community, suddenly finds itself in a major crisis.
Strange things are happening which defy logic even in the slightest sense of the word. Yet, one resident has seen the devastation before-hand and knows that if something isn't done quickly to eradicate the evil that is upon them, the town they know and love will be a distant, tragic memory.
What no one can possibly fathom is that the seemingly pious and good-natured may be the reason the darkness has found its way to Bringham in the first place.
As you pay close attention to this story, each episode will bring you closer and closer to the truth.
Will Marie Adams become a victim herself? Has she slipped too deeply into the bowels of darkness?
Tanya R. Taylor is the author of both fiction and non-fiction literature, including two #1 bestsellers on Amazon - 'Cornelius' and the 'INFESTATION: A Small Town Nightmare' series. She writes in various genres including: Paranormal romance, science fiction, mystery and suspense.
This is supposed to be a prequel to a series and relatively short. Marie Adams gets flashes of psychic visions, especially in her dreams, and right now her visions are telling her that something horrible is coming to their small town. The general population tends towards conservative religion and she has kept her gift under wraps for years, but has just released a book that reveals her visions, with mostly positive result.
It's an interesting concept, but I found the writing itself rather dull and amateurish. I found some things unbelievable, like the massive attendance at a book signing for her first ever book. At a stretch I can see the local author angle generating interest, but mainly this is every new writer's pipe dream.
There is a lot of tedious conversation about everyday things and very few incidences related to build up the Horror situation. There is more development of Marie's disfunctional family history, but that too has unrealistic elements and plot elements that feel like they're just dropped in with no build up or context.
The Horror situation never really gets going. The story just stops and tells you to buy book two and get the third one as a free bonus. It isn't a cliffhanger, there is never any real tension to cause that. It just stops.
I think it would have been more honest to present this as preview chapters. The writing wasn't gripping so I won't be buying the full story.
Not a bad story, kept me interested in what was going to happen next. As with most books I go in blind and I was expecting a bug story, but this is more interesting than a bug infestation, it's an infestation of evil. If you want a quick enjoyable read church this one out.
Crappy short novella with horrible stilted lecture like and preachy dialogue. The idea was good but got lost in a “Awww poor Marie” twist and when she stood up for herself the scene was horribly done. Crappy story. But I read all 3 and they got even worse!
Infestation: A Small Town Nightmare (Part 1) by Tanya R. Taylor is a story about evil. I gave it three stars because I don't like cliffhangers. Even though it mentioned Part 1 I didn't expect such an abrupt ending.
It starts with a sharp hook about Marie Adams having a nightmare & her husband Dave attempting to comfort her. Since I have nightmares myself, this got my immediate attention.
When she described the dream, even Dave became anxious. He had seen some of her premonitions come true so he took them seriously. She believed something horrifying had come to town & much trouble had come with it. He hoped she was wrong but knew she was accurate.
I received a complimentary copy from Amazon. This did not change my opinion for this review.
A very easy read with some promising plot lines laid down for further development. I am looking forward to seeing the horror elements developed and the countermeasures to deal with this, hopefully from a biblical worldview and perspective. Bring on the spiritual warfare!
A brief, (56 pages) start to a 3-part series, Infestation part 1, introduces Marie Adams, a sufferer of psychic nightmares, that she shares knowledge of with husband David, who witnesses her predictions come true. The Adams (!) family is completed by daughter Amy, an innocent in the horrifying events her parents know are going to take place if they don't intervene. A Roman Catholic, Marie is so shaken by her latest vision - of a demonic force possessing locals in her home town of Bringham, causing them to murder loot and rape, without knowing why they are powerless to resist - that she seeks out her priest and tells him of her dread and feelings of helplessness. What does the priest give Marie? Does this help her - and if so, how? How does Marie feel towards her late mother? Why? When does Marie have to fight for her loved ones and neighbors? Can she succeed in her self-appointed mission?
The story contains a few Biblical references, but is certainly not a Christian novel in the accepted sense. I felt somewhat engaged by Marie, but would have been much happier if she and other characters were more rounded and didn't just give the feeling that it was just a slightly less-than-average day in what was presumably meant to be like a Stephen King-like 'Salem's Lot', but fell short because of the brevity of the action and length (or lack) of the novelette. I feel it was more like a prequel/preview to Book 2, that's to be released almost straight away and rather a case of profiteering on what could have been a standalone single full-length novel. A good introduction to Marie Adams, but not much substance to the whole. Maybe reading all 3 stories together will improve it?
First is I have no idea what the main character looks like. What is her job (besides just publishing her first book)? Is she skinny or thick? What race is she? Where does she live (besides it being a small town) - does it snow there or does it have palm trees? Even after reading this I really did not feel I knew Marie very well.
I DID know she had a very troubled past and her family, especially her mother, treated her like garbage. She clearly is a people pleaser living with a narcissistic person. Which is am awful situation. And I think it was this abuse that led to her book. Because writing can be therapeutic. But we really don't know what the book is actually about.
But is Marie a stay home mother? Does she have a job outside the home? I have no idea. And because these facts are missing I feel I don't actually know her.
And as for the plot... I didn't feel any suspense. Or horror. It read more like a slow drama with spats at the dining room table. Which does not match the cover. There is nothing interesting enough to make me read more. The story was flat. Even though a few people died. Because something is missing. Like the scene with the purple haired girl could have been more powerful - although that scene was better than the ones with Marie.
I am glad that Marie stood up for herself and that her husband had supported her too.
But as a horror or suspense story it is dull.
Also Marie states that she had supported her parents for years. But she just sold her first book now. So how did she do that? Where did the money come from to support her parents? The story states things but gives no answers.
This felt like less of a book 1 in a series, and more like the first few chapters of a book 🤔 * Marie gets visions which come true. She gets a horrible one of black creatures hovering over people in the small town where she lived, and calmed told her husband about it. * Things start getting weird, a girl apparently commits suicide, a man murders a family of 4 and doesn't know why, and the number of rapes robberies are going up too. * Marie is invited to her parent's house for dinner, a place she hasn't been since her father died. She always felt like her mother and sisters hated her, and their behaviour at commented that.
* This felt a little jerky to me, it just didn't quite flow right, and there was quite a bit of Marie telling us how awful her mother made her feel. * Her mother was a complete bitch, I would have certainly left and never looked back. * I found it a bit strange how when Marie went and talked to the mother of the girl who looked to have committed suicide, that they didn't tell her she was nuts and to get lost. I mean telling strangers that you're sure their loved ones suicide was 'not of their own volition', is not something that I would expect to go down well.
Since her father’s death, Marie premonitions and dreams of death and destruction overwhelming her small town. The successful launch of her first book is overshadowed by the appearance of one of her brothers at her book signing. Marie considers her husband and daughter to be her only true family after the lifetime of rejection she suffered growing up from her mother and siblings. When her premonitions start to come true Marie realizes that God intends to use her to stop the evil.
The author does a good job of building the characters and developing the plot even though it is a short story; it takes place over twenty-four hours. The plot could be very dark at times. I liked that it could be a thriller and still be a clean read with strong values. It is a well-written book and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good suspenseful thriller. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Infestation - a review by Rosemary Kenny In the small town of Bringham, strange things are going bump in the night. Can it be bats in the belfry, critters in the crypt, or demons in the dark?
Marie Adams thinks she knows and has the strength of faith, to win a moral and mental battle for the townsfolks' very souls and maybe bodies too. But others,(including her family) think she's having some sort of breakdown and try to silence her.
What really going on? Who or what brought this moral, psychic and perhaps even physical threat to Bringham?
Queen of Paranormal Suspense, Tanya R.Taylor, reigns supreme at the top of the psychological thriller charts and deservedly so! Get yourself a copy of Infestation as soon as possible, but be sure to have a 'bell, book and candle' to hand, as you read this incredible tale - and check under the bed before you turn in for the night!
I think if this was a full novel I may have given it five stars. I did get the book when it was free, but it is really just a sneak preview, that said, I still think this is a good story with a lot of potential, but I think readers will have to grab the whole collection to know the story behind what bis going on in the life of the Adam's family and in the town they live in. Dave and Marie Adams live with their daughter,Amy. Marie has some special abilities, although what they are isn't quite given in this short story. She has seen a premonition that means the town is in danger and it has jsut begun. This book is very reader friendly and the story well told.
Marie and Dave have been married for eighteen years but they talk as if he’s interviewing her for a high school magazine. Things they should surely have spoken of in the last two decades come through, unfortunately, in a rather clunky fashion.
It felt overwritten to me, with words like ‘vociferated’ in place of ‘said’, and although falling under the umbrella of paranormal mystery, this story felt more like a domestic drama to me.
A lot of religious-talk made this short felt heavy and the misspelling of ‘brothers’ as ‘bothers’ felt Freudian.
There is a lot of information thrown at the reader too fast in my opinion. Jumped around too much, and at times really doesn't make sense on how it will develop the characters nor the storyline. Not sure it I am going to dig further and continue to read the next set to.see if it gets better and grows some depth. Would have been better if the author slowed down and took a deep breath and concentrated on one thing at a time and let events run naturally.
Marie knew that something was happening in the small town. She was a famous author of the latest book that dabbled in the supernatural. Not everyone was a fan of her book, especially her mother and her sisters.
More and more deaths began to appear in this small town. Marie knew she had to do something….
Conclusion
This was only part one of the story “Infestation” so I had many questions that needed an answer. Not sure why it was split into two books?
It's a nice novella as an introduction to the upcoming follow up books, but I hated where it concluded. It didn't really leave me craving more because it barely started only to derail with family drama only to end there. I'm sure that will play in later but why end it there? Maybe I'll read the next book but so far no urge to continue.
What a waste of time. The characters weren’t interesting, the dialogue flow was poor, and none of the scenes were set. No matter how good the potential plot could have been, this series book fell short. There are too many other authors out there that publish complete novels, so this pales in comparison.
I quite enjoyed the world created within this book. The characters are well rounded and easy to fall in love with. Though there are always those that you dispise for their wrongings. I love how piece by piece the story slowly unravels, but leaves you wanting more at the end to continue the story.
The story never really takes off which is unfortunate this is a very vague and purposless waste except to make you buy the VERY SHORT (84 pages) sequel for an outrageous price I truly hate writers who do this just so you get nothing from the book and if you wish to continue are forced to buy the next which probally is vague and pointless as well😤😡😠
Very disappointed with TBE way this book was presented, downloaded the book then found out after the first book you have to order the remaining books to complete a worthless story Would not recommend this book because of the misrepresentation of leaving you hanging with the option to purchase the next chapters ebook
An interesting spin on the traditional role of evil in modern times.
This book catches your attention from the first page, and I was curious about what was happening. The author doesn't meander from the storyline, which I find refreshing.
I enjoyed what there was of this book, but, like most series it leaves you hanging. Even though parts two and three were supposed to be included, I couldn't acce.ss them, I was very disappointed. Really didn't know whether to rate this a one star for that reason
This kept me up til the rooster crowed. The intensity of the characters and wonderful storyline was just too good to put down. I love a good thriller, and this definitely fit the bill. Looking forward to diving into the second book😊
Marie, her husband and her daughter are good characters, who stick with each other. Marie has a special gift that will hopefully help her figure out the infestation and what it is all about. This story is very short and seems to vaguely touch on what the entire series is about.
A fantastic read, thought it would be more horror but I’d say in the next book. Read all at me time, I know it was short but it really keeps you thinking and wondering. Definitely a must read
I kept waiting for something to happen. It was kinda weird and it felt like I had missed a bunch of things in a previous book the way the story just happened. I know for a fact I will not be reading the second book
I usually do not get books to read on Kindle but this one was free so I loaded it to my Kindle app. I love the story line and now I am hooked. Will be getting book 2 to see what it brings!
I really enjoyed INFESTATION. It's well written and easy to read, with believable characters. The story grips you right from the beginning and does not disappoint.
