Reckoning is the fourth book in the Battling McGuire Boys-series and can be read as a standalone without any problems.
It was once again an entertaining book by Cynthia Eden. The story and characters were like always nice, BUT… I kind of feel like all the romantic suspense books by Cynthia Eden are the same at the moment and kind of blend together. Am I the only one that feels that way? I’m really glad that her next book will be a paranormal romance to shake things up a little bit. Nonetheless I still enjoy everything that was written by Miss Eden, so I’m done complaining and let it up to you to decide yourself.
Very good book, with plenty of action from the very beginning. Davis has been attracted to Jamie for a year, ever since she became the vet for the family ranch. He's just made his move at his sister's wedding (hilarious scene!) when their dance is interrupted. Jamie gets a call from her security company that her house has been broken into. He sees her fear and insists on going with her.
Jamie has been running from her past for a long time, but she's just started to feel safe. Dancing with Davis reminds her of everything she's missed, but also that she's been burned in the past. But when her house in broken into, she's afraid that her past has come back to haunt her. She asks for Davis's help, and gets so much more than she expects.
I loved Davis. He may be a big, bad, former SEAL, but he's also a pretty sensitive guy. He saw her wariness from the beginning and took his time, getting to know her a little first. When the trouble began he was determined to keep her safe, even though his brother Sullivan had doubts about what Jamie told them. Jamie was terrific also. She had been through so much, and came through it much stronger than she believes. She wants Davis's help, but she is also afraid that he could get hurt because of her. I really liked seeing how Davis's confidence in her helped her gain the strength of will to stand up to her stalker and stop running.
Their romance moved quickly, thanks to the danger they were in. I loved how Davis's belief in her helped Jamie to open up to him. I was a bit frustrated that she held back at first, but it was believable because of her past. Davis was a little slow to admit his feelings, but he suspected that he was in pretty deep. It was fun to see the teasing he got from his brothers, but the support was there too. Jamie took a little longer to realize the strength of her feelings, I think mostly because of the guilt she felt for bringing her trouble to him. I especially liked how Jamie told him how she felt, even in the middle of the final confrontation.
The action and suspense in the book was great. The escalation of the stalker's actions kept me turning the pages. There were also several twists and turns that made identifying the stalker a little more difficult. I loved the involvement of Davis's brothers, and how they supported him even when they had some doubts about what was happening. The final confrontation was intense, and the stalker really creepy. There were also some really interesting things that came out about the events of Jamie's past. It was a very good ending. The epilogue was terrific, and I loved the part with Jamie's bouquet.
This was a RU listen. It was the typical woman hiding from a violent stalker story. Complete with special forces cowboy turned security expert. It was well written and performed. Long enough to get to know the characters and short enough that the story moved along without being boring. Just what I expect from a Harlequin Intrigue story. Perfect length for a day of cleaning and lawn work.
I sort of feel like something was off with this one. Part of if was because most of the McGuires were against a Davis Jamie match. Sullivan especially was totally against it, to the point where I think things might have fractured the family had he not changed his tune.
The other brothers weren't much better. I thought Jennifer did a great job of pointing out they all didn't like her at first.
Jamie's story was so crazy! I can't imagine going through something like that and not getting much support. I was stunned that a former boyfriend, Sean, kept selling her out. What a piece of crap!!! I didn't mind a bit what happened to him.
I hated Henry's dad, hated that he kept enabling his son's bad behavior. Of course Jamie's parents weren't much better. That they both set up Jamie with the US Marshalls was a bit too little too late.
The info Henry's dad spouted at the end seemed off to me as it was the first time in this book that dealt with the whole "who killed the McGuire parents" so this needed to be shoved in. Even with that, not sure what I think of this nugget of info.
I did love the wedding at the end, loved Jamie throwing her flowers to Mac.

I loved being hooked from page one. Jamie has a new life, hiding from an obsessed ex. Loved how quickly Davis falls for her, loved his protectiveness. The book kept me on edge too. The plot had different angles I hadn’t expected. Also, hope Davis and his sibling’s find out what happened with who murdered his parents. So happy Davis and Jamie get a happy ever after and I laughed at the last sentence. I highly recommend this book.
Goed. Leest snel. Amper 200 bladzijde. Typisch Amerikaans.
I love this book! And I also love the audio version. The story has great, warm characters and lots of suspense and excitement along with the romance. The writing pulled me in right away. Everything I love in a book!!!
Reckonings, Book Four of this series, I had to get this book and book five in Kindle because books too expensive, as I wanted to read the six book series I dId not have a choice, well worth reading
A fast paced, action packed book! This is one story that keeps you coming back to see what happens next. A terrific story with wonderful characters and lots of surprises. I loved everything about this one!!!
Dr. Jamie Myers has taken a new identity in an attempt to escape her obsessed stalker. But now she has begun to receive deadly messages. Can she trust Davis McGuire, the fiercely handsome ex-SEAL she's hired to keep her safe?
Davis is determined to do everything within his powers to protect Jamie. When the desire between them grows he is even more determined. As their feelings grow stronger her stalker becomes more desperate. Will the deadly threats put an end to their growing feelings before they can go any further?
Dr. Jamie Myers has worked on outrunning her past. Now it seems she has someone stalking her and leaving her deadly messages. She trusted the wrong man once. She has hired Davis McGuire, a handsome ex-SEAL as her bodyguard and she wonders how she can rely on him. She also has to figure out how to ignore his hands-on attention that excites her.
Davis is one of McGuire Securities’ best. He wants to play by the rules and protect the sexy doc 24/7. Davis’ desire grows stronger as Jamie’s stalker grows bolder. Now he is breaking all of his rules as he is determined to uncover all of Jamie’s secrets so he can protect her. He also wants to discover the key to her heart.
This is another amazing book in a series that is proving to be unforgettable. The characters are well written and complex and makes for a story that pulls the reader in and doesn’t let go until the very last page. With Jamie’s issues that stem from her past and seeing her get past them to find her happy ever after makes for a compelling read that is hard to put down. It will also have reader eagerly awaiting the next book in the series and just how the overall story line that links all the books together turns out. With all the mysteries and suspense that twist and turn in each of the books it makes for some addictive reading. This is definitely a series worth checking out.
Jamie Myers once known as Jamie Bridgeton is being stocked once again. When Jamie was 17, she fell in love with Henry Westport. Henry became fixated on Jamie, wanting to have her all to himself. He was controlling, and dark. When she broke up with him, he went crazy. He ended up breaking into her room and stabbing her. He also killed her brother. Henry's father was rich, and he used his money and power to keep his son out of jail. The father bought people off, so they would say bad things about Jamie. Henry only had to go through counseling for the crimes that he committed.
Jamie changed her name, and started a new life with help from the US. Marshalls. Now she is a vet, and loving the life she build for herself. That is until she feels she is being stalked again. She hires Davis McGuire to keep her safe. Davis is a ex-Seal, and owns a security company along with his brothers.
The suspense, and action was excellent throughout the story. Jamie had her home burned, she was in a car wreck, and also kidnapped. Can David, and his brothers find Henry, before Henry finds Jamie? The book also gave little snapshots of Henry's viewpoint. Let's just say he is really sick. This was a great book! I also loved the romance and friendship between Jamie, and Davis.
I was lucky to win a copy of Reckonings through the Goodreads contest. This is the first book by this author that I have read and I really enjoyed it. Reckonings is actually the 4th book in the series but can be read alone. I finished it in one day and plan to purchase the 1st three books. The stories revolve around the McGuire Brothers and their sister. In Reckonings Ava McGuire has just been married and Jamie Myers the local vet, is attending the wedding. It’s during the wedding she meets Davis McGuire and ends up hiring Davis’ company – McGuire Security to protect her and get to the bottom of who is stalking her. This was a really great book, lots of twists in the plot. I’m looking forward to reading the other books and getting to know the McGuire Brothers better
I love how this book starts off with Davis, the series twin, laughing. It was such a sweet cute scene between him and Jamie. More so than the previous books in this series, this book starts off with action and keeps the suspense and danger high throughout. Poor Davis, it seems like he has been injured in nearly every book, and this one is no exception. His injuries won't stop him from keeping Jamie safe though. He has wanted her from the first time he saw her and has placed himself in her path as much as he can. Now that she needs his help fending off a nightmare from her past, he will risk anything.
This was such a great story. I can't wait to get Mac and Sullivan's stories!
In This book of The Battling McGuire Boys we get to know Davis, Brodie's twin. Everyone is at Ava's wedding. When it comes time to dance Davis asks the beautiful Vet Jamie to dance with him. He has been watching her and wanting to get to know her but he gets tongue tied around her. She gets a call that the alarm is going off at her home. She along with Davis trailing her runs to find out what has happened..Davis gives chase of the guy hiding there.. Jamie doesn't want to tell Davis about her past but she does. Not to divulge much here as it will ruin the book if you have not read it. She had a very rough life and was betrayed many times over and because of that she is afraid to trust anyone..A page turner book. I could not put it down as I had to find out what was about to happen!
Solid writing. Would definitely recommend to a fan of thriller as an intro into the romance genre. Great pacing, great plot, lovable good guys and spine-chilling bad guys. Definitely interested in going back to read the first book in the series (I'm assuming), about Ava.
Only a couple of notes:
> Don't know why the police weren't more involved in the investigation > Wish there was a bit more development/backstory on Davis (e.g. how he got a scar, some of his darker memories, or even a nightmare scene of his own) > Yay for an empowered female character and a "manly man" character who (gasp!) respects boundaries and looks for consent.
Man this book really starts out with a bang and we are off and running. This book was very fast paced and Jamie's past was really heart rending. I must say I am not sure why she'd ever trust any man again period but Davis is one of the good guys. Mind you he's not all hearts and sunshine. He can bring the rain and the lightning if necessary and it this book it was.
Not to say anything too spoilerish but I really liked the ending in this book. And I want to say for the record that if you like romantic suspense you definitely need to pick up this series. They are fun, fast paced reads with side order of suspense..
I bought this book with my own money and I give it 5 stars.
Overall it was a good book. Troubled girl in difficulty with secrets meets the one man that can pull them out of her. He is part of a band of brothers that protects said troubled girl despite herself and in the end ...well you got it I am sure. It is not a bad read, 2 mild sex scenes, but even without that I did find the read compelling I wanted to know who the bad guy was and his background story.
If you are looking for a easy summer read that you can sip your tea to, this is it. Although this is book 4, I do want to read the stories of the other brothers which I gather are in books 1 through 3.
OMG!!!! Total nail biter! I read it in one day. A crazy ex, a pretty vet, and a hunky ex SEAL. A little sex and a lot of sitting on the edge of your seat. Jamie is a veterinarian who is running from a violent past. When someone breaks into her house and then burns it down she knows her ex is after her. When it seems her past is catching up with her, she hires Davis's company, McGuire Securities to protect her. Davis will do anything to protect her and try to gain her heart. Received this from author in a contest.
Cynthia Eden is always a sure thing and this book does not disappoint. Lots of action and adventure between the sheets and in the light of day. And of course those McGuire guys are fantastic. So devoted to each other and their family.
Davis and Jamie are a great couple although I did want to smack Jamie a time or two when she held out on Davis. If you enjoy romantic suspense you can't go wrong with this choice. There is backstory in previous books but you can read this as a standalone but you'll enjoy the earlier books too.
Ah...Davis...what a stud. He may just be my favorite McGuire brother from this series! Jamie was a real survivor--and a great heroine. My only complaint is that storylines were still left hanging at the end--where are Sullivan & Mac's stories? I hope they'll be published in the future! Cynthia Eden is an author not to be missed!!
