“Take a deep breath and hang for some exciting hocus pocus, in the literal sense. As a former-magician, I’ve always wanted to include magic in a story. This one does, big time, packed with plenty of menace and peril, delivering exactly what thriller readers crave." Steve Berry – NY Times Best Selling AuthorThis is the second book in the Wizard and Jonathan Barrow series. Jonathan is the worlds leading illusionist and magician; however, he has another secret. He's an agent for an organization falling under the President's Book of Secrets, and only the President and a few in the Pentagon even know it exists. The job of the magic team is to take national and international threats and simply, make them disappear so the public was never aware it could have happened. The Russian mafia have plans to destabilize the world's metal and financial markets while making them filthy rich. They've teamed up with a British aristocrat who is out for revenge in addition to wealth. Bits and pieces of intelligence data have been received, however, not enough to give any of the primary agencies such as Interpol, CIA, and Scotland Yard with enough information to act. The first part of the mission is to discover what; if anything, is really going on which leads them to the English connection. After some illusion, espionage, and special effects James Bond would die for, the team ascertains the target appears to be mines in South Africa, and not just one mine but three of the richest deposits anywhere in the world. The second part of the mission is to find out exactly what is involved and what they plan to do. The third and final piece of the puzzle is to prevent the act from happening while the general public never obtains knowledge it was planned and make the threat simply, “disappear.” Constantly changing plans, interaction with the Russian Bratva, having to deal with gathering intelligence on two continents, discovering there is more to the story than originally revealed, along with so many pieces to a very complicated puzzle make this mission one of their most difficult and dangerous. The captivating finale shows the true diversity of the team and sets up for another possible mission, one the team never intended to take on.

Awesome book with a great combination of magic, mystery, and suspense.

This was a most enjoyable read. Really enjoyed the locations the writer choses as some were local. I like the references from his previous book and how he introduced his next. Looking forward to the next in this series!
