This is one of those fluffy books that are super predictable in terms of plot. I read this kind of books when I can´t sleep and no one is awake to judge my kindle shopping spree.

Lily and Parker are dared to date for the summer even though they hate each other, but not really. It´s one of those annoying books where the girl has to be a virgin cause god forbid she isn´t pining for the guy that hates her.

Good book!

This was yet another cute YA book! The story line was good and this kinda had the feel of a YA version of bully by Penelope Douglas. It was a quick read so the events were fast paced but still a very enjoyable read!

Okay it was cute.. but a bit frustrating?

The Dating Dare definitely had a cute concept. Dare two kids to be a couple.. and watch the magic happen. However, some things annoyed or frustrated me in this book. In it, you will meet Lily and Parker. They are next door neighbors and one has always had a crush on another. Although... they both have had a crush on one another at one point.

Now these two used to be best friends and this is kind of like a best friends to lovers kind of romance. The guy tries to act like a player but deep down inside he isn't. Then there's the nerdy girl who has seen the said player having sex publicly and thinks he isn't the right guy for her. Low and behold, they are meant for one another.

Lily was an okay character and so was Parker. Honestly when it came to these high schoolers, I didn't really have a favorite. I just wanted to see how this book was going to end. I got some vibes as the girl/boy next door or anything else. It's basically a movie in the works.

✨✨✨Lily the classic next door kind of girl, Parker the ex-best friend, now enemy, sexy neighbor .
A combination made in the romance books heaven . Parker always teasing her, trying to get her attention even for a minute. The Dare is his only chance to make amends for the past ,and make lily see through the mask he's wearing in front of everyone since his mother death.
It's a good story, nothing too deep or sentimental, but I really enjoyed it.
SO I gave it 3.75 STARS.⭐️⭐️⭐️
enjoy :)

DNF @ 17%. I recently read another book by this author that was cute, so I thought I'd give another one of her books a try. I only got through a couple chapters of this, but I don't like it at all. I think the kids are crass and the whole dare scenario just doesn't work for me.

The Dating Dare

This is definitely a teenage romance. It’s a clean cut romance. I like how the author made this book pretty realistic. I mean I could see this happening in real life. I also thought it was funny a few times.
However, I felt like this book just wasn’t complex enough for me as a 24 year old reader. I also was irritated a few times by Lilly she was really whiny in my opinion and I feel like just because she is young her character doesn’t need to presented as immature. However, I did like Parker’s character though he was funny and charismatic. In my opinion, if you are around ages 13-17 you will probably find more enjoyment from this book altogether. I would give this a 3.4

“I could go on and on and, believe me when I tell you, he asked about you every time he saw me. He wanted to know about your life, and I have a feeling it was because he regretted that he was no longer in it. You both had crappy things happen to you and you both dealt with it in different ways. You can’t fault him for that.”

throughout the book, I found lily to be very impulsive with her decisions, parker too… maybe that’s just me. but I felt like there was just miscommunication throughout the entire book, and I mean the entire book. instead of actually talking it out with one another, they just tried to make the other one jealous, which to me is pretty childish, but it’s a YA book. overall, it’s a decent quick read book. just some issues I had with the book here and there.

I had no idea what to expect from this book because there weren't a ton of reviews here or on Amazon. Overall I thought this was a really cute YA contemporary!

The writing was a lot better than what I was expecting, and it was fast paced. I enjoyed the enemies to lovers vibe this book gave off. I wish that this was longer and that the tension built more between our two main characters. There was a lot of potential, but it just seemed like there were a few missed opportunities to take this book from good to great.

Overall, this book is great for someone who wants a cute, quick read. 3/5 stars.

I enjoyed this one. The plot is classic and pretty much cliche. But then again, nothing can go wrong with a cliche love story, right? It's predictable, but I adore it. My first time reading a book from this author and I think I'll read more!

Where do I begin to describe how absolutely awful this book is???
First - I didn’t finish the book, but forgot to make a note at which point I stopped reading, and since I usually don’t rate DNFs I won’t rate this book either, but it would 100% have been 1 star…

Second - I’m not a teen, not by a long shot. But I really enjoy YA books if they are good. This is not and I would have been annoyed by it as a teen too.

So. Let me start with my little rant. Our MC Lily is totally unlikeable. Rude and Judgy.

The whole premise of the book is totally unnecessary. Why not just apologize?
And the whole dare situation? So stupid. No way would Lily have done any of it (clothe change at the party, let alone dating through the summer…) if she hates Parker that much. You don’t have to do every stupid thing a game teenagers are playing tells you. It’s called a backbone.
And going to the lake house even after he called the dare off and - I repeat - she hates him..? Never.

The characters and the story were also so shallow. Everything was based on looks. This is a problem in many romance novels, not only YA, but here it was really extreme.

Lily acted pretty confusingly too. She tries too pout, is whiny, then playful and the next second she’s just mean and full of revenge.
We’re supposed to believe that she is insecure (for example: she doesn’t want to wear a bikini because she thinks Parker is comparing her to other girls and she is failing) but then she goes to breakfast only wearing a shirt, catches Parker staring and says full of confidence: “take a picture”. It doesn’t match up for me.

One scene she’s ogling Parker after accusing him of being too full of himself and always thinking he’s just a shallow guy only interested in how a girl looks. Hypocrite much is all I can say. Also: No, you don’t HAVE TO drool over a guy’s muscles…

The writing is fine. I picked it up after I liked the style of one other book by the author, but the characters and story were just too bad. The tension in the beginning was great, but then there were too many shifts from both characters, too much just didn’t make sense and I got too annoyed to continue reading.

I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. For (younger) teens there is just too much sexual talk and foul language, for adults the characters just are way too immature and childish (and some of us even prefer cleaner books as adults). So, just don’t read it…

This young adult/high school age story is about enemies that have some deeply buried memories of when they were friends and when they were at the cusp of something more.

Lily and Parker have been picking on each other, verbal sparring and teasing each other for 4 years ever since they had their falling out.

Then one party dare that would never be passed up found them both fake dating or.... Dare dating for the summer. Except one visit to Parker's family lake house excelerated everything and forced them to return to enemies or try for something else....

This is a clean romance with a little bit of sexual nature in the dialogue but no sexual acts other then kissing in the plot between the herione and hero.

I think this was a cute high school romance that had some sad moments and some teary spots but was well written and got us underneath the stubbornness of them.

The epilogue is cute, but short. I am curious to know how this pair handled college and adulthood. And Madison & Aiden- wonder what their story is.

Will we see anymore of these characters especially with senior year? Maybe Hunter?

Or what about stories about Milo or Jayden and his twin getting their own?

Great premiere story. Would love to see what comes out next. Will the author continue with young adult or progress into an 18+ romance cause the chemistry that she crafted could definitely work in an adult romance.

Will definitely read more by this author.

This book is so forgettable that I can't remember the names of the characters three days after I finished. The basic premise is that the two main characters were best friends when they were young who grew apart. The female lead hates the male lead because he ditched her when they were twelve or something. They get into a bet that makes them date for the summer. They end up at some summer house that the male lead's family has and end up together.

This book has a very generic plot. I don't really understand why the male lead likes the female lead so much since she write him off when they're twelve and never treats him kindly after. Both of them a very immature and play games to make the other jealous. There's also some backstory that they hint at that isn't delved into too deeply. The male lead hates going to the house since it reminds him of his dead mom that died in some accident. They talk about the mom as if she was important but literally never give a hint as to what she was like or how she died other than it was an "accident". She's treated like a plot device because that's all she it. It's weird. There's a lot of things going on in the background that's treated as important but isn't given weight in the story.

Senior Year, Summer Vacation.

I loved this book!
Clean YA is not generally in my wheelhouse, but every now and then I find myself drawn in by a High School experiance different than my own.
And let me tell you, I loved Parker! That kid may not have known how to get what he wanted, but he knew.

But it wasn't just Parker that I loved about this story. Set in the summer before Senior Year all the typical High School drama is left behind, forgotten so to speak & you get to see what the characters are like without the labels they have or would be given.

I also adored Lilly, breaking her barriers was difficult, and I think really relatable to anyone who has felt abandoned before. She was strong & utterly determined not to let a silly dare or the boy it was attached to break her. Until she softens a tad & you see the truth.

The cover drew me in, but it was the writing style of A.R Perry that kept me reading.

This novel was a nice quick read. It was really nice and angsty. I really liked the love/hate relationship between Lilly and Parker. Their chemistry was sizzling in the pages. The push/pull angst didn't make me want to put the book down. And the build up to a huge climatic moment, really made the book enjoyable.

The romance was really nice. I liked how there was a lot of tension that dragged out. Nothing was rushed for a short novel. And the kisses between Parker and Lilly, they were like a fuse on sparks and fire. I could literally feel their pent up energy.

As characters, both of them aren't bad. I liked their personalities and interests. However, what docked this book down a star was the unnecessary drama at the end. I felt that it was too cliched and it broke them up too easily.

Otherwise, this is a pretty sweet enemies to lovers romance. If you are looking for a quick read, go one-click this book.

This was such a cute little Summer read for me. I always am a fan of `the boy/girl next door' kind of stories. Although you are out to know how it will end, the journey is always still cute. I liked that both main characters were kind of enemies that shared a lovely childhood together. In this story, life is also thrown into both their faces and lets them drift apart with no 'real' chance to make it back to each other. But the magic of one summer and game of 'Truth or Dare' can create miracles. ;)

I liked reading from both of their POVs and seeing their confusion about the same situations. They were so cute together and also created steaming situations that sometimes seemed to come out of nowhere. I wished the story would explore the surrounding things a little more and would run a little less in the same circle as it did for some situations. But all together I really enjoyed it and think it is the perfect quick read to start out your summer. :)

This is a sweet read. My first book by this author and I plan on reading many more books by them. I really enjoyed this book. This book has sadness from loss, crazy high school parties, fun, laughter, anger, dumb boys, mischievous girls, missed opportunities, and finding love. The two main characters had spent their childhood as neighbors and best friends. Until tragedy and loss struck them both in different ways. They lost themselves, their way, and each other. But with the help of their friends and a dare, they are forced to spend time together. Bringing up old emotions can be hard, but these two prove how sometimes it's worth it. The writing is great, the characters are strong, and the story will keep you sucked in until the very end. Voluntary review of an advanced reader's copy via booksprout.

Lily hates her ex-best friend, Parker. He ditched her for popular friends at the time she needed him the most. But, after a drunken game of Truth or Dare, Lily has been given the worst dare of all—to date Parker for the summer. When the opportunity to spend time at Parker’s lake house like the good ole times arises, will the forced proximity open up buried feelings?

I literally binged another one of Perry’s YA novellas; they’re such nice breaks from heavy, long reads, and ARCs. This one was of course cute! Ain’t nothing better than reading about young love, especially when the former best friend one had feelings for before but had to squash and now didn’t know how to deal, interwoven with the classic fake dating snafu. Well, here’s another quick read to add to your KU shelf, when the mood strikes!

I didn't quite know what to expect since this is my first read from this author, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the story. It was fast paced enough to keep me interested but not so fast it lost me or left out important details. The characters were lively and intriguing. Parker and Lily's story is one of childhood crushes, first time broken hearts, loss, and all the stupid things we do as teenagers. Parker and Lily have both had to deal with the loss of a parent and each tried to move on from that in their own way. Secretly harboring feelings for one another for many years, even through out their estrangement, they are forced to face those feelings once and for all. It's sometimes comical, sometimes angering and sometimes heartbreaking but in the end it's what was meant to be. I like the ending and would be interested if they author chose to write a follow up about them. Maybe a book showing them a bit in the future, in college, navigating their relationship after the honeymoon phase has worn off. Would love to see how it all works out for them.

It was cute and all, but I couldn’t really get myself to love the characters and there were times where I had to motivate myself to carry on. It just seemed like a few stories I’ve read before with the old best friend one side love troupe. One thing I enjoyed was Lily’s comebacks. It made up for the amount of times I got annoyed with her. Parker was just okay. Sometimes a huge dick, but then so was Lily.

Thought Madison was a bit of a bitch in pressuring Lily to go to the parties and trying to dress her in clothes that she didn’t feel comfortable in. However, she redeemed herself with helping out with Parker after that incident at the lake house and telling Lily exactly what I wanted to tell her during their fight.

Overall, kind of a predictable but adorable story.

Didn’t completely finish it but I just couldn’t. Lily ist just a horrible friend and person. Extremely hypocritical, bitchy and honestly just stupid girl that thinks she’s always right and everyone is out to get her. Really really annoying and I just cannot understand why Parker would be into that. If a red flag was a person = Lily
And of course the plot is unoriginal and cheesy but I knew that before I started the book. HOWEVER I still hoped that at least the plot would make sense somehow but the way the dating dare played out just made no sense at all. There is no point in doing a dare you don’t want to do if nobody is there to care/pressure you. So why would they go through with it if Lily hates it soooo much.

I read this off of the high of reading Four Doors Down and Four Years Later which has a premise similar to this one. I wanted something light and cute and that was what I got in this book!

Lily and Parker were childhood friends growing up but in eighth grade, Parker's mom died and he iced Lily out which was when she needed him most. Since then Parker takes any opportunities he gets to goad Lily. Lily thinks he's just a jerk, but Parker is willing to do anything just to get her to react to him instead of ignoring him. A dare and the childhood beach house is Parker's solution to fixing his relationship with Lily.

Amazing storyline, but a few errors

I loved the characters and the whole storyline. It was funny and a really cute read. There were a lot of errors I found in the book (spelling and grammar) that could be fixed easily. One thing I didn’t like was that there wasn’t enough description of the characters to where I could picture them. There were a few things here and there, but overall it didn’t click. However, I could look past it because I loved the book. I would recommend it for anyone who’s looking for a cute, clean read.

This is one of those books I though I'd pick up and it would be a cute, lighthearted and fluffy read to enjoy and pass the afternoon. I guess it was, but unfortunately the characters were rather unlikable; by the end I was getting sick of their tense, angst-driven interactions and wished they would just part ways! I really wasn't feeling the chemistry in this one. Overall, it was the characters and not the wiring that put me off. I'd be willing to give this author another shot in the future.

Neighbors to friends to enemies!

I mostly listen to this book. I was painting our house walls while I was listening to it and I have to say, I did enjoy the moments they had together, Parker and Lily. It’s a bit predictable & delightful read- just what I was aiming for. I dig the plot & all the characters. This is my 1st read on this author :). You have to keep in mind, they are in high school when reading this book!
