I feel a bit mean giving this book only three stars, I think that it's probably worth a good 3 1/2 but not quite a four, hence the score. This was a very enjoyable, if very short, novella. I actually enjoyed it so much that I stayed up late last night in bed reading it. Sometimes that's the danger of novellas, it tempts you to keep reading, as there's not that much further to go till the end so I might as well finish it.
I think that this is part of a series, although I haven't read any of them. I don't think that it really mattered though. It was still a really enjoyable read.
This was quite an unusual story. Josie can see and talk to ghosts. The ghost she can see right now is her brother, but he's not yet dead. He soon will be if she doesn't convince his best friend to help her go and find him on a trail that he has gone on a hike on. The only problem is that said best friend hates her, despite the fact that they both had a big thing for one another.
There was a lot to cover in this short novella. Both the background of the couple and Josie's history. It mostly worked out well, but there were perhaps a few unanswered questions towards the end due to the length of the story. I do wonder if these are covered in other books in the series though?
Overall I really enjoyed it and I'm finding that Abigail Owen is fast becoming an author whose work I really enjoy. I'll certainly be checking out more of her work soon.
**I've just re-read the updated version of this. Still a very quick read, but one that I really enjoyed.**
