Scott Golden killed his first man at 14, avenging his father’s murder and beginning the life of a wanderer who lives by the gun. A brief encounter with Doc Holliday adds gambling to Golden’s abilities and pushes him further into the life of a gunfighter.

Seeking refuge and isolation, Scott builds a small ranch in the mountains of Colorado. His peace is short lived. Jonathan Sampson and his four grown sons wrongfully claim ownership of Golden’s land. When Golden is forced to kill one of Jonathan Sampson’s boys, the embittered patriarch sets fire to Scott’s ranch and rustles his cattle.

Scott takes after the rustlers, but he is not alone. He is joined by Gentry, a man whose family the Sampsons had murdered and by Anne Barber, a woman who wonders if Golden is capable of returning the love she has for him. After a terrifying confrontation with the Sampsons and a band of renegade Indians, the hunters become the hunted. Scott Golden must carry a wounded woman to safety while planning how he can once again use his abilities as a killer to save the one person in the world who is important to him.
