For Kendra Evans, the last person she expected to see was her former ex, Ellie. After ten years, a whole boatload of drama and drugs that changed their relationship for the worst, Kendra didn’t know if she should get involved. However, when Ellie gets hired to work for Kendra, Kendra starts to realize that she may be a different person, which makes Kendra wonder a few things. One of them is whether she can forgive and forget, after all these years, or will the pain of the past still sit there. Can Kendra learn to love again or is that flame long blown-out.
Ellie Greene just wants to be seen as normal. As a former drug addict, she knows that her past will always haunt her. But, one thing that stayed at the forefront of her mind, even after all these years, was Kendra. When Ellie gets hired to work for her, she knows that Kendra still sees her as the mess she was years ago Ellie wants to prove her worth, and show her that yes, while she is a recovering drug addict, she is a human being, and she wants to be with Kendra. Will Ellie finally shine? Or will their relationship never come to pass, because of what happened ten years before.

I was quite disappointed by this story. The plot had merit but I didn't enjoy the way it was written. It seemed quite stilted and lacking in depth, particularly considering the gravity of the experiences of the main characters. The dialogue wasn't the kind I enjoy in that it was often a case of stating the obvious.
At the start of the story, the leads don’t communicate very well, but at the end, thats all they do, I think at the expense of the romance. Still, the issue of addiction is dealt with in a realistic fashion I thought. The story wasn’t super exciting, but I appreciated the scenes where they actually talked. An odd thing is I never actually knew what either of them looked like until waaaay into the story. I don’t need a whole lot, but the story is written from both of their POV so I think the author could have worked it in somewhere, especially since they are meeting again after a long separation.
The best and most interesting thing about this book for me is neither of them has other relationships, which is an outlier in lesfic and a balm to this demi’s soul.
Overall not a bad read and kind of a handbook in dealing with trust issues and addiction but not really a smoking hot read either.
I have had this one for a while on my to-read list. I finally decided to read it and it was worth it. My take on second chances is very small. But this was a crazy ride because you have to be open-minded. Otherwise, HEA will be missed goodbye.
I liked how the story was well built and the follow-up to every key point in the book was touched.
this was so bad????? the writing was so robotic and repetitive and the dialogue felt stilted, forced, and unnatural. i really didn't appreciate the way this handled the themes of addiction, harassment, and self-harm, as i don't think they were treated with enough care and could be harmful to readers who have had these experiences before. there was also literally no depth to the relationship, and the fact that these two women just let their 10-year old failed relationship dictate their love life is,,, preoccupying to me??? it was just plain unhealthy sjskajshs. there were also NO character descriptions ever which was just fucking annoying. what a waste of time 💀
The story has an interesting premise, and could have been solid. However, the writing is immature, repeating the same thoughts again and again. So, the characters never really develop to their potential depth. The important themes of the story, Kendra’s business, and Ellie’s demons, were not developed beyond repeating the same phrases throughout. Bloom could have used consults with people knowledgeable about entrepreneurial businesses, and drug addiction/recovery. She has a lot of promise as an author, and I hope to see more from her in the future!
This was a sweet story about rekindling an old flame and working through past hurts with understanding and forgiveness. That isn’t always the easiest thing to do but Kendra and Ellie deserved a second chance at love.
The story is quick and quite told in a pedestrian manner, however that did not take away from the sweetness of the two characters. There is quite a bit of drama packed on here as well. It’s a quick novela to read while commuting.
I loved this book. It was written with real life situations. I love how they hadn't seen each other for 10 years and then they starred working together and in the end they both got the help they both needed to move on and finally be together without the baggage of the past.
LOVE 💘 HEA's I Love reading stories that have happy endings!😍 So when it started developing into a happy ending story!😍 I was totally over joyed!😘. I've been totally pleased with all of Jenny Bloom's releases!😍
Can you say do over? Ellie and Kendra have a past. It's a difficult one. One filled with lack of trust and deceit. Read their journey of finding their way back to each other. Good read.
This had a lot of potential, the pacing was over the place and there wasnt a lot of description so i found it very difficult to picture the scenes. It felt more like an outline of the story than an actual story but i did enjoy it.
This book started off with a good premise. It needs an editor desperately. There were a lot of things mentioned, then forgotten about or changed. I couldn't stick with it.
