The third book in the “Mental Damnation” series picks up with its heroine, Krista Scalebane, gliding between the hellscape, Dreadweave Pass, and the surface world. Krista has enlisted the help of a female paladin as well as the first puppet of the Weaver, known as Cursman. They try to keep Krista from being captured by Sporathun, a dangerous fallen angel who needs Krista in exchange for something he desires.

We see General Dievourse and meet his nemesis, El Aguro, a fanciful crow-lord gatekeeper who has an equal distaste for Dievourse. El Aguro’s entrances, outfits, gestures, and the way he speaks are presented with outlandish and flamboyant flair, conjuring up great imagery for the reader.

In a desperate attempt to find Krista, Darkwing and Draegust agree to find the sister of a shaman and deliver the sisters’ head. Darkwing doesn’t know of any other way to get to the surface world and will stop at nothing to get closer to finding Krista.

While on the surface, Krista falls harder for William while falling deeper into her damning diseased state. She also starts to learn how to fight as the boys in training do and how to stick up for herself.

Dr. Alsroc continues to treat Krista for Mental Damnation while keeping notes on her declining condition. But it appears he knows more than he lets on, yelling out Malpherities’ name when only Krista can see him on the surface world. Coincidence? Part of the disease? Only the doctor knows.

“Purity” flows nicely from the first two books in the series. The story gets more intertwined and gets the reader thinking more about the characters' potential ulterior motives. This novel was bloodier than anticipated, and some characters even lose their lives in ghastly ways. We also understand more about the gatekeepers and the marked children, and why they work in tandem.

We see Krista grow and use self talk to remind herself to stay strong, especially without Darkwing to protect her. I would liken Krista to Sansa Stark in “Reality” but turning into Arya Stark in “Purity” - her strength and resolve in herself grows as she plunges further into the unknown.

This truly talented author of fiction and poetry, and equally talented artist, has brought us yet another outstanding work in this remarkable series. My connection with the main character (Krista) now runs deep. I must know what happens to her. I am now also bound to several other characters that have been more exposed through this part in the series, and new ones who were introduced. The author, Konn, has such an ability to bring these characters to life on the page. I know them. I feel like I am part of their world.

The author's world building abilities continue to shine as bright as ever in this this third part of the series. New worlds are introduced, and old ones continue to grow vivid in my mind. The details and descriptions are amazing.

With poetry and philosophical views woven into the introductions of each chapter, the artistry of the author is elevated. The writing made me stop and think.

The icing on the cake -- the beautiful sketches between each chapter - put the 'Konn' stamp on this amazing piece of work.

Everyone should read this series, regardless of the genre you usually reach for.

Mental Damnation Fusion by Konn Lavery

It is day two since Krista has the brain disease Mental Damnation. Dr Alsroc is still trying to find a cure. Krista's friend Malpherities is trying to help her keep her mind focused. Now she has a human Paladin that is attempting to help her escape Hell. The corrupt God Weaver is trying to find her, for his own evil intents. Not knowing who to trust, Krista must use her best instincts, to stay alive and away from all that is evil.

Book three in the Mental Damnation series picks up perfectly and continues with Krista's story. There is a lot of action, drama and suspense. Told from different points of views makes the story flow well and easy to understand.

The characters are unique, the plot is original. The possibility of a real disease, like Mental Damnation makes the story more exciting. The drawings through out the book are fantastic and gives a good mental image. Great as a stand alone, but I suggest the first two in the series (which will make it easier to follow); Book one Mental Damnation Dream and book two Mental Damnation: Reality

I particularly enjoyed Kristas uncertainty on who to trust. I felt like I was right there with her in her confusion.

this book definitely has me questions paladins motives as well as that of the doctor. not to mention those traveling with Krista in dreadweave pass. I just have this gut feeling that someone is going to screw her.

it took me a little longer to read this book as I started it on a weekend. I love getting into my books and feel like I become part of the story almost. I find it alarming how concerned I am about Krista and how much I'm praying that shell come out of this different then the others.

this book definitely sucked me into the series farther then I already was and I'm beyond excited for the next one!

I want to say who I would recommend this book aeries so far too but that requires limiting my list of people down. I've talked about this series since I started reading it and the first book is circulating my workplace. I can't wait for them to get to this book!!

This is the second edition of this book.

I knew what to expect going into this book. I have been following Konn since the very beginning. However, let's start at the beginning.

Going immediately into this book from the first publication, I was a little bit nervous about its size. It is significantly bigger than the first publication as well as bigger then the second publication of all the other books. But I was excited to see the differences between the first and second. And let me tell you, he did not disappoint.

The character details are amazing. I love how he's changed to Krista's tell her when she gets nervous or frightened. I believe the fact that he changed the way she reacts to her fear or her nervousness makes her seem a little bit more the age that he wanted her to be instead of being a child. I really enjoy that he added way more detail into Darkwing's quest to find Krista. While I enjoy what he did to Dreagust, I find the new version of him extremely annoying and I really wish somebody would kill him soon.

There were definitely some plot twists that I saw coming. Such as a character's background, or a name... yet I still found myself extremely annoyed when the plot twist came out. Not a bad annoyed. Just annoyed. I found myself talking to the characters in the new parts of this book. Or yelling at it.

I think the biggest thing I didn't like about this book is the fact that it ended. I have so many questions and I am extremely frustrated about some of the events at the end of the book that I just want answers to.

Although the previous book in the series was amazing, this book really outdid it. The lore was so interesting, and honestly seemed pretty original. There were fallen angels in hell, some crazy undead puppets, living books and some horrifying monsters that really peeked my interest. The characters were interesting and the story is proving to be one of my favorites that I've ever read. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a dark fantasy book.
