Fresh from a summer in Fae, Ianthe returns to her normal life- her human life. Determined to start the year off right she focuses on her senior year and her new best friend, Callie. Exile isn’t so bad with a bestie. If only Fae didn’t hold the other half of her heart. When Callie is kidnapped, Ianthe’s two worlds collide and she must return to the perilous world of Fae. Nothing will keep her from saving her best friend, especially when she is partially to blame.Conall is banned from seeing Ianthe, but his heart is broken without her. Obeying orders is expected as the king’s right hand man, but when Ianthe breaks her exile edict, he can no longer put his king first.Breaking exile and defying a king are a small price to pay to save the ones you love.
Cathlin Shahriary lives in North Texas with her husband, cats (two of which she calls her own) and an 80 pound pitbull puppy named Erwin. By day she is an elementary teacher, sculpting future book nerds and writers. By night (weekends and summer) she is an avid reader, cat foster, and writer. You can also find her fangirling over books, authors, and TV shows (Supernatural, Dr. Who, and the Walking Dead to name a few). She still believes in the existence of magic and the power of love.

Book two in the series. This book was just as good as the first, maybe even better. Okay, yes it was better! I loved the world building, you can see everything in your head as you are reading. She really did a great job of describing everything in the world. Just as the first book, when I could, I was reading like crazy to find out what happened. It was full of emotions and at the end I couldn’t help but shed some happy tears. I loved the characters from the first book and the new characters in this one. I know the next book in the series is called Sacrifice. Which is a prequel to the first book. This series is a fun read with lots of adventure. I recommend getting into this world and getting lost in the fun.
Being previously released and revamped with author experience, I just expected more. Still rushed, lacking details. Ended with a happily ever after that was very underwhelming.
Told from both Lola's and Conall's POV. Lola tries to be human again, and do normal things like become friends with Callie but her heart still lies in the faerie realm. Callie gets kidnapped to the fey realm. Lola goes on a quest back to the fey realm knowing if she is caught she'll be executed since the Unseelie King put her in exile.
Conall, as the King's right hand man, tries to keep the peace between the Seelie and Unseelie. After finding out Lola is back in the fey realm he sets off to save her.
Casimir, Lola's betrothed, is insane. Hands down my favorite character, even though he was the bad guy. Cas is a changeling (extremely rare gift), meaning he can shapeshift into human forms, which he does often to spy on Lola. I also liked Lola's character growth, becoming more confident.
Probably will not finish the series or further read books by this author. Too much to the stories that could've been added. No real cliffhanger, could've easily been a one book story. The whole thing felt rushed.
**I received a copy of this book free from the author from a giveaway on Instagram. My daughter read this book and the above is only her thoughts. I did not have to leave a review.
Book 50 of '25!!! A new record for me! Exile by Cathlin Shahriary (287) is the second book in the Fae Realm Series and a fantastic sequel to the first. I enjoyed this one much more as it delved more into the interpersonal relationships of those surrounding Ianthe. Being safe at home after her summer trip, she heads back to school and makes a new friend. Inseparable, the girls are instant besties, sharing the same love of pop culture and dislike of the snobby elite that still attempt to torment Ianthe. As time goes on with no contact Ianthe starts to doubt the truth of the feelings between her and her fae beau, leaving an opening for a few new boys to make an appearance and Callie (Ianthe's new bestie) falls for one HARD. Fresh off her recent trip to Fae Ianthe is much more hesitant to trust these new boys who are very obviously not what they appear. Her spidey senses tell her something is off, and as Callie disappears Ianthe must make the choice to brave the dangers of returning to Fae to rescue her, at the very real potential cost of her own life. 8/10 a definite improvement on the first book. Looking forward to where she takes me next!
honestly deserves more praise. Has to be one of the best books I've read fantasy wise. I love the new characters that the book gives. I loved the first book and this one is honestly better.
