Bookish, snarky, and fiercely independent Nate Boudreaux leads a solitary life. Between teaching classes at the university and working toward his PhD, he doesn’t need a partner to occupy his time, and he certainly doesn’t need a man like Alistair Drake complicating his future.
Alistair Drake, black sheep of the tremendously wealthy Drake family, is more interested in adding another notch to his bedpost than another zero to his bank account. When a Grindr message brings him to Nate’s doorstep, then straight to his bed, he has no reason to believe that what they share will be more than a simple hookup, until, three months later, a tug on his soul informs him otherwise.
For the Drake family has a secret—one that will force Nate and Alistair together as much as it will demand that they be torn apart. One that Alistair and his brothers have carried all their lives… and one that Alistair and Nate’s future children will carry, too.
Bound to each other by the three precious impossibilities, Nate and Alistair have no choice—no matter the consequence, they will fight for their forbidden clutch.
Clutch is a 64,000 word steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance that will leave you in stitches. It contains a Grindr hook-up gone very wrong (or very right); giant magical lizards; a pig named Olive; a wank throne; and a HEA, right down to the white picket fence.
Piper Scott debuted as a trio of authors looking to write together for fun. Their collaboration led to three novella-length books (Love Me, Save Me, and Keep Me,) before life sent them in different directions, leaving just one author with an omegaverse plot bunny that wouldn’t leave her alone. Obey was born several months later… but the plot bunny never left—it multiplied.
Left to her own devices, Piper Scott writes scorching but heartfelt contemporary omegaverse romance about men you can’t help but fall in love with.
It's even better second time around. Man, I loved reading this book but listening this, narrated by "Michael Ferraiuolo" is even better! Seriously, if you love snarky dragons, a bratty omega and Mpreg, you need to drop everything and start listening this book ASAP!
Original review: Edited version
I really regret that I didn’t read this one sooner. This book got under my radar as soon as it came out because well, eggs and dragons and you know I’m slave to those. 😂 Then again, life is a biatch and my busy schedule didn’t allow me to read this one as soon as I would have liked. Now I really moan for the lost time among me, Alistair and Nate. I really REALLY REALLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY loved this book. 🥰 Fun, quirky, extremely hilarious, intriguing and I was enamored by those funny, geeky endearments. Read this 250 pages book in 4 hours so this is a new addiction record! (I listened this in one day! 😁)
Definitely started with a wham bam thank you ma'am! 😉 Nate in heat and finding a big stupid alpha on Grindr to relieve him of his heat. 🔥 Ended up getting unexpectedly pregnant despite contraceptives, heat suppressants and condoms (because we all know dragon cum is super strong and virile and penetrating, and yes .. totally and unapologetically pun intended! 😂👏🤣) and laid 3 beautiful lavendar eggs. And he found himself unceremoniously kidnapped by his new Eggy Daddy who proclaims that he’s a centuries old dragon and they are bound to each other now. 😁 So poor, oblivious Nate aka Iggy found himself centered in the whirlwind of eggs, egg space, arse*olish dragons, dragon politics, giant magical lizards, dragons with kidnapping tendencies, and smoking hot, sizzling sex. 🔥 And like in all dragon romance stories, our gullible omega and his Eggy Daddy aka super virile dragon got an epic HEA in the end. ❤️ And OMG, don't even start on Harry and his pet iguana Steve. I can't freaking wait for his book which is going to be the second book in the series. 😍 I really loved reading this book but listening to Michael Ferraiuolo's magnificent narration made this book so alive, vivid and enchanting. 👏 I know Piper Scott always writes amazing stories but she has outdone herself with this one. Nice job co-writing with Virginia Kelly. This was just a really really fun book. Now I'll be jumping up and down waiting for Harry's story to come alive. ☺️
5 because egg spacing is the new thang stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I guess it was cute except Nate was literally the most annoying hero ever. He treated Al like shit for most of the book and I really don’t think he deserves the title of Harry’s best friend, he was terrible to him. Sure he could be seen as endearing but I saw him as a rude asshole who didn’t know how to treat people decently. Then I started wishing I could be done with the book so I could read about Ev and Harry or even Perry and Sebastian. I was bored and annoyed and was so glad it was over. The second book holds promise so hopefully I’m not disappointed.
Piper Scott and Virginia Kelly (AKA Lynn Van Dorn) have teamed up to bring us something a bit different in the world of mpreg - laying eggs instead of the live births! I've read about it in fanfics, but this might be a first for me reading it in gay romance.
This story sure does start out with a bang and it's like it never let's up! Alistair and Nate get together as a hook-up and spend a crazy hot night together. It isn't until a few months later that Nate goes through something he never thought possible - he gives birth to eggs! Alistair is a dragon, and I love the world that has been created in this story. Dragons might have mates, or they might have something more like a breeder, and it's lucky if eggs are conceived, and then if all the babies are born.
These two had great chemistry together, I loved all their bantering and bickering and snark as they started falling for each other. They were both fiercely protective of their eggs, and grew to have that same intensity for each other. I loved it. I also loved Harry, Nate's friend, and how curious and interested he was in the dragons being that he studied reptiles. I can't wait for his story! (With Everard, I believe??)
And Olive! Lol, I loved it!
Cannot wait for more in this series, what a great world these two authors have created!
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book was better than awesome... it was the perfect blend of romance, humor, sexy times and suspense and of course DRAGONS! I love dragons and will read anything with them in it. And so much better with books that not just have dragons but sexy well-endowed dragons! LOL The world-building by these authors was just fantastic, I can't wait to see what they add in book two. They have populated this book with a pretty amazing group of people and dragons all very complex, diverse and fun to get to know. I have to say that due to an extraordinary use of humor I laughed during this book as much as I cried. Loved the tender-loving moments and baby DRAGONS!!!! But oh the humor was awesome! And I can't leave out Olive the Pig who started out almost roasted and became a member of the the family. I can't wait to start on Bond, book 2 and see how the authors manage to top the near-perfection of this book!
I honestly don't know why I put off reading this. All my friends loved it, but for some reason I was afraid it just wouldn't appeal to me. Boy, was I wrong! This was delightful.
I wasn't sure I would like Nate. I don't tend to like pushy overbearing omegas. I like them a little more docile...like Perry. But Nate won me over. I loved how he immediately fell in love with his eggs and would do whatever necessary to keep them safe and loved.
Alistair was a sweetheart. I felt so bad for him and on more than one occasion wanted to throat punch his family. I hated they saw him less-than. He stepped up and was willing to do whatever he needed to for his clutch and his omega.
I'm a little disappointed we didn't find out exactly Nate's heritage. I have a feeling I know what it was. It was hinted at and I'm hoping more is revealed in following books. I will definitely be reading more. Harry, sweet Harry...I can't wait to see him get a dragon of his own...maybe a few babies to boot!
Audiobook July 2019: ❤️⭐️👏🔥🥰🥰 I loved listening to this as much as much as I did reading it!!
I’ll be honest and say that it took me awhile to get used to the narration—I had other voices cast in my head. Once I let that cast go, I reveled in the narration and the story again!!!
The only downside is that I don’t have the next audiobook in the series at the ready!!
Original review Jan 2019: Dragons! Baby Dragons! Adorbs!
Like my good friend Lorraine (Queen of Fluff) said, this was Dragonlicious! Total sweet draconian fluff!
Included for your fluffy pleasure: Knotting Egg-preg A bossy omega Purple eggs Territorial dragons Treasure Magic A slippery pig named Olivia Baby Dragons Mates And.....a white picket fence!!!
This was kind of silly *lol but also entertaining. Overall, tho, I’m not sure if I want to continue with the series, even though the premise for book #3 especially sounds right up my alley. I guess, we’ll see.
*********** Forbidden Desires Series:
Book 1 - Clutch - 4 stars Book 2 - Bond - audio tbr Book 3 - Mate
Sweet, funny, exciting, creative… hot, dang! Piper Scott and Virginia Kelly’s Clutch, the first episode in the Forbidden Desires series, has everything!
This is one of the most enjoyable audiobooks I’ve listened to in a very long time, and Michael Ferraiuolo’s performance is spectacular. The upper crust accents he gives to Alistair’s brothers gives just the right level of snootiness and had me laughing out loud. I also don’t think I’ve ever heard him do a “nerd” before, and his Harry is spectacular! Able to infuse emotions into the smallest exchanges between characters, Ferraiuolo brings out every bit of the feels in this one - and the authors cover just about all of them.
An incredibly creative story, I know there is much more to explore and I can’t wait to see where Scott and Kelly go from here. I hope we find out the details behind Nate’s mother’s escape from her cult, and I’m looking forward to getting Harry’s story next.
an audiobook copy of Clutch (Forbidden Desires #1) was provided to me for the purpose of my review
This is pure entertainment. And you’ll have a great time if you enjoy it as such.
Are we meant to deeply analyze the characters? Nope. Are we supposed to pluck apart the plot with a hair comb? Nahhh. Are we urged to doubt and overthink? Don’t think so.
Of course, you CAN do all these things, but imo that’s not the point. I had fun here, or if you let me put it like this: There’s nothing wrong with … .) two likeable MCs (one moody-broody/ the other one spiteful and sassy) .) a good dollop of alpha/omega heat .) baby dragons! (that was better than I expected!) .) quite a few chuckles (there may a bit of ‘dragon-bashing’ going on here, but no need to call the RSPCA yet!) .) a little bit of action .) a cute romance with a reluctant boyfriends/parents theme
So, not looking any deeper and steering away from scrutinizing stuff, but hoping for a few answers to some open questions in the next book. This was mega relaxing and fun.
Yes this is just as fun as the first time I read this, I love all these dragons and the omega's who they find! Raven Part One is out on Audio, so it is only fitting to do a whole series reread before Part 2 comes out so I can read all the books and get back up to speed!
Now Harry and Ev's book, because we all know that is the best! haha
Reread/relisten #2 May 2022:
Same rating as before. And now on to Harry and Ev’s story 🥰🥰
Reread/relisten #1 June 2021 :
Rating is the same as before, I am getting ready for Peregrine!! I think I’ll listen to Harry and Ev’s story again because hello Harry is adorable!
Original Read/Listen: May 2021 Audio: 5 Stars, Michael Ferriauolo is amazing voicing these dragons haha Book: 4 entertaining stars
I really enjoyed this way more than I thought.
For an mpreg book I don’t know what I was expecting since this is my first one, but I think since no human babies were born it made it easier for my brain to process lol.
Also Michael Ferraiuolo did an amazing job brining this book to life. I will be listening to the next book now, with Harry and Everard!!
Well, this was better than I expected. Not perfect, but quite enjoyable.
Nate is an omega who needs an alpha for his heat. He is on suppressants, but he’s still horny, so he finds an alpha on Grindr.
Alistair only does the occasional hookup so he is fine with Nate just wanting him for one night.
After that memorable night Nate is experiencing severe cramps and pains. When he suddenly lays an egg he is gob smacked. His roommate Harry is quite excited though. A real egg! When Nate lays 2 more eggs, he isn’t sure what to think. All he knows is that the eggs are his to protect.
When Alistair breaks down the door in a rage because he feels the pull to his eggs, Nate is not ready to just hand them over.
When Harry calls the police, Alistair persuades Nate to come with him and bring the eggs. The police won’t know that to do with dragon eggs.
Alistair takes Nate home to his penthouse and explains that in his culture the omega gets separated from the eggs and that the dragon father takes care of them. Well, Nate won’t have it. The eggs are his!
Alistair is surprised Nate seems to have deeply bonded with the eggs, but he will just go with it.
Now he just needs to convince Nate to give him a chance to be a proper mate….
This book was fun! Nate was such a feisty omega, he had quite a temper on him, and I loved him.
I didn’t like the parts with the council and them determining what would happen to the unsanctioned eggs, but I was glad it wasn’t a huge part of the story.
3.25 stars Alphas, betas, omegas, baby dragons and a pig named olive are all part of this interesting story. I was on the fence about this one, at first, but the more I read the more entertained I became. Curiosity as to where this book was going kept me around and now it has made me want to grab book 2.
This was just mostly a ton of fun. There were a couple oddities here and there but nothing that pulled me too much out of the good time I was having while reading.
Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below. “You told me to claim you, so I did.” Nate’s eyes opened wide. “You claimed me? You arrogant lizard, I'm not a piece of lost luggage. You can't claim me.”
This book is super entertaining and cute at times, but also very superficial and mega light on the romance. I love dragon shifters so would take a lot for me to actually dislike it. The concept is unique and there’s a bunch of side characters I want to know more about, which is rare for me. I just wish the romance felt more genuine, as it feels like a convenience thing that happens to turn into feelings and compatibility. I for sure still recommend it, especially the audio which Michael Ferraiuolo nailed, just don’t expect an epic romance lol. A dragon with dark eyes and hair spoke up. Maybe Onyx. “You are the omega that Alistair had congress with?” Congress. Jesus. Nate swallowed a nervous and completely inappropriate giggle.
3.8 stars

Lying, glistening wet, on his bed was an egg. A beautiful, amethyst-colored egg. The same color of the alpha’s “no, my eyes aren't purple, they're blue” eyes.
“After the laying you just went through, you should barely feel this.” “That’s what doctors say before they do something that’s going to hurt,” Nate said in an accusatory tone. “I’m not a doctor.” “That makes it worse.”
Michael F did an amazing job with the narration; loved his distinctive voices for each character. He really is a great performer and I'd listen to him read the phone book if he did it with an accent.
Off to listen to Book 2 because Harry and Steve and SCIENCE!!
Original Review 27Feb2019: Once I got past the egg-laying part, the rest of the story was sexy, fun and different. I'm sure there are a lot of Dragon shifter books out there but as I'm not typically a fan I haven't read many. After this one, I will be though. The next one seems like it might be even better...
Honestly, once you get past the egg-laying, this is just a cute and steamy dragon shifter rom com. Alister and Nate were adorable. Alister had me from the beginning, he was so sweet and attentive...it took a minute for me to warm up to Nate, but I guess if I had gotten knocked up by a dragon and thrust into their crazy world, I would be a little prickly too! Once he started to trust Alister, he softened up a bit. This was a sweet, hilarious, low angst read.
Get you a man/dragon/dragon man, who brings home a whole pig when you flippantly say that you could eat a pig and then when you tell him you don't want to eat the pig, lets you keep it as a pet. STAN OLIVE THE PIG.
Since the blurb is vague I'll spoiler tag, but there were a few firsts for me with this book .
I enjoyed the two main characters and the way their relationship grew from contentious to HEA. Neither men were looking for a relationship. Nate needed to get through a heat and Alistair wanted a hookup. Alistair is an alpha but he isn't a self-confident one. He is the least successful in his family and they continually remind him of it, leading him to worry if he can be what his omega needs to be safe and happy. He definitely has the alpha tendency to claim and protect what is his, even if he sometimes takes things too literally. Nate is an academic, working on his Ph.D. when his life as he knows it completely changes for the weirder. He can be sassy and opinionated, but some things are soon out of his control.
As far as the world-building went, I wanted a bit more when it came to what Alistair's family is and their history. Alistair seems boggled by some common things that didn't make sense to me. There was also not a lot of background information about the world around them and their place in it. There were also occasions where a shift or partial-shift happened, but what happened wasn't clearly presented.
It was a fun, sweet, fast-paced read, that kept me entertained, and presented a refreshing take on the Mpreg I'm used to reading, but it also left me with unanswered questions . Seeing as this is the first in the series, and part of the story was set up for the remainder of the books, including the introduction of a few of Alistairs brothers, a feud between elite families and Nate's adorably inquisitive best-friend Harry (who I absolutely loved and I will be reading his story), I'll have to assume some of this will be addressed in future books.
2.5 Occasionally I read a m/preg story to check if I find one that works for me - it usually doesn't (with one exception) and it does it even less when it's placed in an A/O universe. So why did I got this one? Good question. Answer: dragons and the hope that eggs might be a different same than your "usual" male pregnancy and it nearly worked. It so much OTT that it nearly dwarfs the Matterhorn, it lovingly embraces its cartoon characters and throws any attempt at logic right out of the window and fills the remains with snark, ridiculousness and knotting. It's a kids cartoon without pictures but adult content and early 60s stereotypes but don't look too deep because below of all that dragon puppy cuteness, the cranky mating and glimmering treasure that world is dark with an ugly core.
Re read on Audio Dec 2019 Even better than the actual reading! Love the audio.
Unique and fun! This is a cut above many mpreg - as it is about dragon's and a unique take at that. I loved reading this - and was completely absorbed. I cannot wait to read Harry's story!
This book was different. I don't think I have ever read about the birth of eggs, or at least I think....anyway, the story was simple but sweet and made me smile many times. Nate was a feisty omega and fierce, while Alistair was cold outside but a real teddy bear inside, and Nate was very lucky to find him. I really wanted to know more about Sebastian(Alistair's big brother)and his omega mate Perry, and most of all, I wanted to see Ev(another of Alistair's brothers, and one day older than him)and Harry together, they will be a lot of fun. Harry was precious and so cute, and Ev a sassy dragon.
{“For pity’s sake, Ev, I'm nearly nine hundred. You’d think he'd stop assuming I'm about to die every five minutes.”}
This isn't an omegaverse book. Referring to Wolf shifters with slick. This is an Alpha, Beta, and Omega non shifter book. As the title implies, "There be dragons!"
Of course I had to delve into this world! You got egg fathers, egg peekaboo, Council verdict on unsanctioned clutch and a revenge plot. Still can't believe what an major butt dude's father is.
Goodness gracious this was cute and heartwarming and so entertaining! I found this recommended to me through a M/M Romance Rec group that I'm in on FaceBook and it did not disappoint!
If you're looking for omegaverse, mpreg, and dragons this is 100% the book for you.
Alistair Drake is considered the runt of his family, having almost been a dud. And when he meets Ignatius 'Nate' Boudreaux for a one-night stand, they both thought that would be it. But sex and an overflowing condom leads to Nate becoming pregnant with Alistair's babies aka his little dragon eggs.
Nate is a mouthy omega who doesn't take shit from anybody. I love that about him. I also love how his daddy instincts kicked in and how he acted with the eggs warmed my little heart. The side characters in this story were also entertaining as all hell. Everard (Alistair's brother) and Harry... And let's not forget about Steve and Olive. ;D
I downloaded the audio of this book too because from what I've read and heard from the sample, the narrator brings these characters to life! This was my first Piper Scott book, but it will not be my last!
4.5 stars! This was all kinds of freaking adorable with a little excitement thrown in *though Perry was quite unconcerned, LOL* and a full cast of awesome characters, funny, quirky, sweet and fearsome. Did I mention that I love dragons? <3
I absolutely loved Nate and Alistair, and I quite enjoyed Alistair's brothers and family and Nate's bestie Harry. I even loved Nate & Alistair's pet pig Olive. And baby dragons! *heart-eyes* Which is why I'm running directly on to Bond!
First, a warning. The plot centers not just on MPREG, but Egg-PREG. MPREG is not my most favorite of tropes, but I like a/b/o, so I deal with it. Egg-PREG on the other hand, weirds me the fuck out (no judgement if you're into) and I was honestly pretty freaking annoyed that the authors didn't warn for it so they could be ~mysterious~. I very likely still would have read the book, but it wouldn't have been such a (frankly unwelcome) surprise. IMO, keeping it a secret does a dis-service to their readers, and put me in a negative frame of mind from the start, whereas had I known from the get-go, I wouldn't have felt like I was tricked into reading it. Honestly, that played a big role in my rating.
Writing was generally good, I thought the dragon aspect was quite fascinating, and I more or less enjoyed the relationship aspect and the ~egg~ drama. A bit insta-love, and I would have preferred more actual relationship development and getting to know one another, but it's a/b/o so it was fine.
I will say, there was way too much time spent on Alastair's brothers, all of which were mega-assholes in a VERY unappealing way. It honestly was really upsetting to see how shitty Alastair was treated, and I get it's another race with different values and all, but the fact that Nate (who was not a dragon) didn't even seem to get super offended on Alastair's behalf with the way his family talked to him felt super inauthentic. As a reader, I found Alastair's family to be super awful and toxic, and if he were my mate, I'd be fucking having words with them. I have ZERO interest in reading the next book about Everard or whatever his name was, because I found him super unappealing. I know I'm going on about this, but I was seriously THAT bothered by it. It took at least a star off this book for me--I can handle shitty family, but shitty family where nobody seems to actually recognize that the behavior is shitty is not something I'm interested in reading.
