An unforgettable YA novel filled with mystery and magic. Fans of Harry Potter and Beautiful Creatures will love this series.
Kat and Angie have just enrolled at Willow Woods Academy for Witches against their parent's wishes. They're thrown into a magical, mysterious world that is everything they dreamt it to be. However, when an ancient book falls into their laps, their worlds are turned upside down.
10 years ago, a rivalry between the covens of Willow Woods Academy and Morwood's School cost many their lives and cast a dark shadow over the academy. Now, Morwood's has opened again for the first time since the incident, and mysterious happenings are occurring - and they all seem to be surrounding Kat.
School's never easy, and with their exams coming up, a stalker in the trees, and Kat's family name shadowing doubt over what side she's on, the first year of school is more of an adventure than they had ever anticipated.
The story was amazing. The plot was amazing. Loved the characters.
BUT... there were soooo many typos. No book is perfect but it was almost like it had never touched an editor. There were times when I found myself editing instead of being able to enjoy.
Ten years ago there was an incident at Willow Woods Academy and two people died, an Ash and a Dupree. Now Ten years later two NOLA girls are ready to attend Willow Woods Academy for Witches but their families are strongly against it, and the girls don't know the reason. They then do what any normal teenage girls would do; they forge the signatures of their parents and head to the school. Kat and her best friend Angie will be in for the rides of their lives as they discover their families past and how they are connected to the incident that happened ten years ago. Mona who is at the opposite school has been waiting for another chance to raise an army of the dead and now that the school has another Ash- Kat, and Dupree - Angie, can she finish what she started ten years ago? This was a slower paced book than I was hoping for but I did enjoy it, and fans of Jessica Sorensen's Mystic Willow Bay series will find themselves right at home with R.L Weeks and Skylar McKinzie's Willow Woods Series.
*Spoiler Free* What a wonderful and magical Books I have read in a very long time. I have read many books my R.L. Weeks and this was my first time reading anything by Skylar McKinzie with that saying reading this book I was amazed that I did wasn’t able to distinguish who wrote what line. These two authors together have brought a new series to life. This book was filled with magic, secrets and amazing journey through the eyes of two friends Katarina and Angelina. This book was so descriptive I could actually see it in my head as if I was there or I watching a movie. I think this book is a 5 Star and I believe whoever reads this book will enjoy reading from page one until the end. Great job ladies♥️
Move over Potter! I absolutely love this story! If you liked Harry Potter you will definitely like this. This story grabs you with mystery, drama, and action right from the start. I love the back drop planning with the houses and coven's I can't wait to see how it plays out! I definitely recommend this book it's a must read!
Meet Angie and Kat. Two young witches who want to go to Willow Woods Academy for Witches, problems is…their parents have said no. But what’s a girl to do when told no? Why sneak out and go enroll yourself! That’s exactly what Kat and Angie do. Forging their parents’ signatures, they enroll at Willow Woods Academy not knowing that danger is lurking in the woods nearby and that soon it will make itself known. It’s their first year, but Kat is going to start learning more than she ever thought she would about herself and her family history, that they have taken steps to keep secret from her. But all secrets eventually come to light. Willow Woods Academy for Witches by R.L. Weeks and Skylar Mckinzie is their first book in the Willow Woods series. This is the first book that I have read by these two authors and for the most part I enjoyed this story. Angie and Kat have been friends for years, and it has been their dream to attend Willow Woods Academy for Witches. Both of their parents are against them going. Of course, for me, the question arises as to why? Why don’t their parents want them going? Well, thankfully that question is answered but in a roundabout way. Similar to Harry Potter, the girls, once they arrive and are accepted at the school are “sorted” into types of witches – fire, water, air and earth. There is another type of witch who can control all the elements and raise the dead, but those are rare. The headmistress knows more than she lets on about the girls, and so she hides the truth about what they really are. Due to Kat’s family name, she’s soon being bullied by one of the girls at the school. But it won’t be long before Kat learns that there are others who have dark family histories as well. I enjoyed reading this book, but this story is not without its flaws. For the most part the authors do a good job raising questions and answering most of them, but not all. When this story ended I still had questions about a few things. Like – what happened to the witches and wizards who were possessed? I was really hoping that they would give us a flashback with Lara aka Hope to what happened around the time that she died. I was hoping that we would get a chapter to see what all happened and to have a better understanding of her and Mona. Also, there were several moments in the story of where I got confused as to what was going on. There were some parts I had to reread to fully follow who was talking, acting or reacting because it gets a little muddled from time to time. Also, there are some minor editorial issues as well. Small hiccups, but nothing so bad that it’s a huge distraction. At the end of the day, I enjoyed reading this book. It is engaging and interesting with some twists. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series and hopefully having all the questions answered this time. For those who don’t like cliffhangers, no worries this book does not end on one. We get a decent closure to the story in preparation for the next. I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s an enjoyable YA novel, but it leaves me with too many questions at the end. It’s a fun story, but I recommend you really pay attention as you read as there are some spots that can get a bit confusing if you go too quickly.
Kat and Angie are best friends and witches. Only Kat’s parents won’t even talk about magic and Angie’s embraces magic but won’t let her go to Willow Woods Academy. So they sneak off and go on an adventure of all adventures. They meet a set of twins that they fall for. Have possessions, secrets of Kat’s family come out and save the day while seeing people come undead.
Kat is the bookworm and kind. She usually does as asked but she really wanted to go to Willow Woods so her and Angie sneak to there. Once she gets there though her world goes upside down. She isn’t put in an element people think is cool. She has things revealed to her that is hard to accept. Someone is out to get her and she has doubt over herself, her family and where she belongs.
Angie is the fun one of the two. she is the adventurous take a chance on things girl. Very vivacious. So going off with her bestie to Witch school is the best adventure yet. She meets a boy and starts sneaking off to meet him. She has the element she wants but odd things are happening to her and Kat.
The story is really just fun and an easy read. You get some background, adventures, danger and entertained by these two young witches along the way as they save the day and get to learn what they want- being a witch.
This is a fun, coming-of-age type of story with magic, mystery and tons of unexpected adventure.
Kat and Angie run away from home and enroll themselves (thanks to a little forgery) in the Willow Woods Academy for Witches. At first, they think they'll get everything in control, but soon, mysteries about the past catch up to them and they're in for a whole lot more than they bargained for.
This is a magical adventure which grabs from the first page and keeps hold until the very end. There's a wonderful mixture of characters, and the scenes pull into an intriguing world. Kat and Angie are a little naive in many respects in the beginning, but the problems quickly have them adapting. There's a lot of mystery about the past from the very first page, and it only grows and thickens the whole way through. There are characters to love, ones to hate, and many others in between as the school and the world develop, laying a wonderful basis for the rest of the series.
I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed it enough to want to leave an honest review.
I'm not usually into reading about witches and wizards (I tried Harry Potter, but never could get immersed into it) but this book had me interested the whole way through. Very well written with fun characters.
I liked getting to know these characters and couldn't wait to start book 2 to see where their shenanigans would bring them or who else would arise from the dead.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved this book great storyline. Angie,Kat and Lara have to works things out and come together to save the academy for someone that wants to destroy it. Lara come back for the dead tens years after her death to try and save her sister Kat. Angie doesn't trust her and that puts Kat in the middle. Lara was part of the event that happened ten years early her best friend wanted to destroy Willow woods academy. Lara had a change of heart and try to stop what was about to happen and was killed. Now her old best friend is back to do it again but she needs Kat and Angie in order to do it. Can Lara save Angie and Kat?
I loved this book. So well written and full of nail biting action and thriller. Love the characters too. If you love fantasy or Harry Potter you’ll love this book.
I was a little worried about this book to start with, as the beginning is similar to the Harry Potter story line. My worries were quickly whisked away! It's a magical book with mystery surrounding the past and the evil trying to come back for another round. Great read. Can't wait for book two.
This was such a fun and magical read! I just wish there was more of it. It needed more details! There were some weird time jumps that were confusing: it started off with first week of classes, then jumps to the winter solstice, then jumps to end of term. Plus Kat goes from not being able to move water at all, to creating rainstorms and blowing up an office. I wish we had seen more of a transition with learning the magic, like a light switch going off when she finally gets the hang of it. There were also some typos and weird spacing going on between the paragraphs that were a bit distracting. Overall, I really enjoyed it. I just wanted more!
This book is definitely my favorite by R. L. Weeks so far. I think one of the reasons is that there is no deadly cliff hanger. I mean of course there are unresolved issues since it's book one but there was also resolved issues which made for a nice change. The second reason is that there was no gruesome sex scenes and orgies since this book has much younger characters. The story is based on the relationship between 3 witch covens, the Blood Moon Coven, the Harvest Moon Coven and the White Moon Coven. Each coven is supposed to have their own academy near the Willow Woods. I'm still not really sure how that actually works though since for a while the Morwood’s School for the blood moon coven was closed so I get that students from there got to Willow Woods but then it seems to be only boys at the other school and who the hell ended up at Morwood when it reopened anyway... that's basically the questions I have been unable to answer since Blood Moon Coven people seem to have stay in Willow Woods... Anyway.
Basically Kat and Angie decide to go to Willow Woods Academy against their parent's wishes and end up in the middle of a plot by the main villain. It's like a reenactment of what happened 10 years ago. The bad girl wants the same thing she couldn't get the first time around and decide to try getting it the same way. It's kind of very straight forward but a lot of things she wasn't expecting got in her way. The head mistress of the academy is so useless and stupid that she should be fired. The main characters Kat and Angie have a tendency to get in and out of trouble without really knowing how which is pretty funny since most things back fire.
A twist of Harry potter and the worst witch I love it! Such a great read for all ages. Definitely wanting more and looking forward to more from R.L. Weeks
Willow Woods Academy for Witches by R.L Weeks and Skylar Mckinzie is a terrific story of two friends, Katarina and Angelina, headed to a school for Witches against their parents wishes. Once there they find themselves learning all the secrets that their parents were hiding from them, especially one so important to Kat that it’s mind blowing. As secrets unfold and evil rears its ugly head in the form of a girl named Mona, the school, it’s teachers and the best friends must find a way to stay alive and save the world in the process! I truly enjoyed the writing of these two gifted authors. The book gives all the necessary background and storyline to make you love the characters and the friendship that they have. After finishing this book, it has now made me excited for another instalment in the future to keep this story going.
I became interested in Kat and Angie right from the start as they struck out on their own to Willow Woods Academy for Witches. There was a mysterious history about Kat's missing sister that I wanted to know more about. As the darkness started creeping in, I grew worried for Kat and Angie. The truths that came trickling out page after page made terrible things become clearer and kept me in suspense about what could be coming. Mona was so strong and determined, and I wondered what would be able to stop this plan she had put into place. When the battle lines were drawn and things started happening, I couldn't put the book down. The ending was perfect, but still left me with questions and an absolute need to read the next book in the series. These authors did a phenomenal job writing together! I can't wait to see what they do next.
Absolutely fabulous! I love this new urban fantasy series. A magical & mysterious adventurous tale. The synopsis of the novel is highly intriguing & right from the beginning you are drawn in & keeps you captivated until the end. With very detailed world building descriptions & settings. A perfect blend of creativity & a unrivaled writing style that fits the fantasy exquisitely. With well seasoned splendid mix of characters . A wickedly spectacular fantasy series that I cannot wait to read the next novel in this series.
I really enjoyed the storyline and characters in this book. It is appropriate for most ages, it has no sex and only a little violence. I like where the story is heading, and I think it has just the right amount of mystery written into it. The only thing I didn't like is that it kind of jumps forward in time and you aren't really sure how much time has passed, but it doesn't make the story any less enjoyable.
Wow! This is first book I’ve read by R.L. Weeks and Skylar Mckenzie and I wasn’t disappointed. A lovely, magical read that had an exciting plot. Kat and Angie sneak out from their homes to enrol at Willow Woods Academy against their families wishes. The story unfolds as they settle into the new term. With friendships old and new, looming darkness, coven rivalries and a mysterious book. I can’t wait to share this book with my daughter! A five star read 💕
This book was soooooo good!!!!! I loved all the descriptions, the story and characters. You felt as if you were a part of the book watching from the sidelines as everything happened. I loved that fact that while there were lessons you felt as if you were in the classroom learning at the Willow Woods Academy. I fell in love with this book. It has just the right balance of everything. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am looking forward to the next installment.
So this story is about a couple of girls who find out that they are witches. They want to go to the school bad, but their parents won’t let them. They have no idea why their parents are against them going, but they don’t care and run away to North Carolina where the school is. While there they learn things that will change them forever. Will they be able to survive these things. Or will evil win. Grab this fantastic book and find out.
A fun and enjoyable read that grabbed me from the start. The characters are well developed and the world building top notch!! Book one is a great start laying the groundwork for what is sure to be a must read series for all paranormal fans. Looking forward to more in the series and from the Authors.
This is first book I’ve read by R.L. Weeks and Skylar Mckenzie and I wasn’t disappointed. I got this one as a freebie and I thought I give I try, I really was surprised myself how much I liked it... I reckon if you are a harry potter fan you will love this book. The storyline and characters in this book grabbed me right away. I will be reading the next one for sure. Such a great start.
Do you like stories of witches? If you enjoyed the House of Night series or the Vampire Academy series here is the Witch equivalent. I enjoyed this first book, Rebellious teens Angie and Katrina run away to the Witch Academy against their parents approval to go. This is where their adventure begins.
