Protecting the Wolf's Mate

Rate this book

Ellen has one vengeance. With little memory of her life before her imprisonment by a maniacal werewolf, her world has been full of pain, humiliation, and fear. But now that she's been rescued, her need for revenge is challenged by the urge to be part of a pack... and the unshakable connection to, Hollis, the man her wolf claims as their mate.

Hollis will do whatever it takes to protect his pack, and that includes looking after Ellen, who doesn’t need or want his help. He’s determined to keep her safe, even though she’s hell-bent on revenge, even if that means sacrificing himself. And it might come to that when the big bad comes back for the one woman he can’t live without.

This has to be the best on of the series so far! I loved Hollis and Ellen. They had the most explosive chemistry and I loved the fact that the story explored the bond strong between them and their wolves. This was action packed, suspenseful and had two prickly characters that were perfectly matched.
“You are mine. I am yours.”

Quick Summary:
Hollis has been trying – without success – to develop a vaccine that will ‘cure’ the infection that makes him and his pack, wolves. Because of a heart defect, Hollis has never shifted and when danger again threatens his family, Hollis feels inadequate to defend those he loves. He thinks that by turning them back into normal humans, they wont be in danger or targets of other packs.

Ellen thought she only had one purpose in life. To destroy Cyrus and avenge the death of all those he took from her. For years she’d been under his thumb. She’s suffered unimaginably and the only thing keeping her going it revenge. Until Hollis and the rest of his pack somehow burrow themselves under her well-guarded heart. In them, she see what a real pack should be. Full of love, loyalty and honor.

In Hollis, she and her wolf sense someone worthy of their love and affection. She sees in him a second chance to love and be loved, but Hollis is determined to fight who and what he is. He wants to eradicate her wolf and “cure” her. Something that frustrates her and confounds her. Born rather than made, Elle loves who and what she is and doesn't understand why Hollis would refuse that for himself. Something that puts them on opposite sides of the same fight.

This story was gripping, intense, angsty, powerful and answered a lot of questions about the history of these shifters. I loved the magic aspect of it, I loved that Ellen was such a powerful character. She was very ride or die and I personally loved that about her. I don’t want to say she was pushy because that sounds so negative but she was persistent when it came to Hollis. Even though Hollis had given up on his wolf, Ellen never did.

I loved Hollis almost as much as I fangirled over Ellen. He was a man of science. He struggled with the new ramifications his possible cure would bring for the newest members of his pack and for Ellen. He was stubborn but he always had the pack's well being in mind. I loved that Ellen, someone so proud of being a wolf, was able to slowly changed Hollis’s black and white view of shifters and the lives they could lead. For having fought so hard to keep their distance, these two became such a devoted and loving couple. You can feel the emotion and the determination that drives them and that made this an amazing read.

Memorable Moments: We meet Ellen as a capable and hardened warrior. I loved watching her let her guard down with Hollis. When she finally breaks through to him and they share this really intimate and tender moment after their first time. That pretty much solidified their love, hands down. Her feelings overshadow her morbid look of her future. The fact that she once again has hope is huge.

Would I recommend? Yes. Hands down, I really enjoyed this one :)

Full Disclosure: When I picked up this book, I didn't know it was the third installment to a series. I read the blurb, looked at the cover and was all in. That being said, my review reflects that.

Ellen is different. The only time she seems "normal" is when she's taking care of the Alpha's mate and children. The other times? She's bitter, condescending and extremely hard to figure out. That's to be expected since she's not really a member of the pack. In fact, she used to belong to another pack, run by a very evil Alpha who tortured as a form of entertainment. I'm pretty sure you'd be bitter too. But a lot of her bitterness also revolves around Hollis' obsession with finding a cure to the infection that's turned his pack in to what they are. Being a wolf is special, magical and something that should never be taken for granted.

Hollis is on a mission. It's been ten years since he and his pack mates have been infected, changed in to wolfs. Ten years that he's been searching for a cure, so they can return to their "normal" lives. And every time he thinks he's close, it's a bust. All of this is made even more frustrating considering his wolf has been dormant from day one. Why? He has a heart murmur and shifting could kill him. At least that's what the thought is. He's not sure because unlike everyone else, he doesn't even sense his wolf. That is until Ellen starts challenging him in ways he wasn't prepared for. And now? Everything has changed.

Since I didn't read the first books in this series, I'll admit that I was pretty lost for a while in the beginning. But I stuck with it, going with the flow and figuring things out as I read. Once understood the character building and the threats, it was a pretty smooth sail from there.

I really liked the courage Ellen has. Not only to avenge her past, but in recognizing what her wolf wants and going for it. Hollis' character is torn. Lead by science his whole life, coming to grips with the reality the infection has caused has been extremely difficult. Especially since he also didn't have a connection with his wolf. But the two of them together were wonderful. Hollis brings out the good in Ellen and Ellen brings out the truth in Hollis. And what beautiful moments they had together.

Protecting the Wolf's Mate by Sasha Summers is book Three in the Blood Moon Brotherhood series. This is the story of Ellen and Hollis. I have read the previous books and I do think it helped me to enjoy this one better.
Ellen was once held prisoner in another pack but is now out and helping the Alpha of the current pack she is staying at. Still fighting the emotional part of the suffering she had and the wish for revenge does consumer her but Hollis brings new feelings forward for her. Hollis is dealing with his own issue to solve. Their attraction is burning hot but can these two work through their issues find their happy ending? I hope to read more from the author soon.

Battle of the Good against the Evil Wolf Packs. Puzzle is to trust or not trust the wolves that were captured from the Evil Pack? Ellen had been a prisoner of the others for many years until she helps a fellow prisoner escape. Ellen has secrets on top of secrets along with some extra mojo going on. Summers does a wonderful job of creating a twist in the pack life and spends much time building characters that become a part of your heart. Probably should read this series as it just flows one into the next. No cliffhanger but feel the back stores are needed to achieve quality continuity. I read the first book in this series about 15 months ago and honestly didn't recognize any of the characters from that book in this one. For me, it was as if I went into this series without reading any of the prior books and while I think it would have helped to know more of the back story it didn't hold me back from the story line.

This was a very interesting twist to the typical shifter books in that these shifters were humans first instead of being born into their world. I was a little uncertain of Ellen's role within the pack as it took some additional reading to determine who exactly she was. I do wish we had more of her back story, I felt like so much was left unsaid about what she went through. Perhaps though that's in a different book in this series as it's mentioned she was with another member of their pack at the time.

Hollis's character was a trip! He was a true scientist through and through, but it was Ellen who made him see that science can't explain everything.

This paranormal werewolf romance is thrilling, exciting and a little bit edgy with a deliciously passionate enemies to lover romance that tantalizes readers from the very first page.

Ellen has one goal on her mind…vengeance but her need for revenge is being challenged by the need to be part of a pack and one wolf in particular has caught her interest. Hollis is determined to find a cure and he will do anything to protect his pack even Ellen who doesn’t want or need his help. Ellen and Hollis are strong, charismatic that easily capture the readers’ attention, drawing them into the story and ensuring that they want to know every last detail. The romance is sharp but passionate with lots of electrifying chemistry between the hero and heroine and the fact that the pack isn’t sure that Ellen can be trusted adds suspense and even more emotional turmoil that both of these characters have plenty of. Readers can’t help but connect with these two and follow them along on their journey to their happily ever after.

The plot is fast paced and flows smoothly throughout with lots of intrigue and excitement as the pack try to find a way to stop their enemy who is out to not only destroy their pack but has some evil plans in store for some of them. Twists and turns keeps readers on their toes and the wonderful characters and fascinating world ensures that readers want return to visit this pack again and again.

So I have finally finished the series. This book has left me wanting even MORE. Ellen and Hollis have had such painful pasts and have been dealing with so much. If no one else deserves a HEA, it is Ellen. Her life has been brutal IMO. For them to find each other was a work of magic. For them to love each other was nothing short of a miracle. This entire series is definitely worth a read.

I loved Hollis and Ellen so much! Hollis is a wolf who can't seem to shift, so he just gets sick every full moon. While others enjoy bonding with their wolves and learning how to fight for their pack, he spends most of his time just trying to figure out how to find a cure for the wolf infection.

Ellen used to be one of the Others, but she was basically born into it and had no way out. Now, she doesn't have a pack and was only in Hollis' to help Jessa, the Alpha's mate, to have a baby. Since the baby is born, she wants to go back to the Others again to kill Cyrus and the ones who tortured her for years.

Ellen and Hollis are two of the most focused members of the pack. Hollis has dedicated his life to his cure, and Ellen has dedicated her life to getting revenge on those who hurt her. Ellen uses anger as a way to protect herself when she was with the Others, and Hollis just buries himself in data to protect himself from being ashamed of his wolf. Neither felt that they had time for love, and they wanted to deny the emotional connection that they had. Their friends knew but Hollis wanted to focus on his work and Ellen wanted to focus on her mission without getting connected to any members of the pack.

Hollis has been the pack member with the most fleshed out story for me so far. He tells Ellen about his home life before he became a wolf, and he even has a company outside of the pack. He seems like a person with real traits other than just being a wolf in this pack.

Ellen has the most unique story out of all of the characters. She was technically a member of the "villain's" pack, but not by choice. She can give Hollis' pack more in-depth information about how the Others work, telling them things that they would have never known about Cyrus.

Ellen and Hollis' romance was pretty whirlwind. They had chemistry from start to end of the story. I thought that they were going to get together a lot faster than they did, but it still took a good portion of the book before they accepted the bond. We got to see more of each character's backstory this way, and I actually enjoyed the wait more.

Overall, I loved this installment in the series. I can't wait for the next one! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a new adult romance novel.

I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

Wow! Ellen and Hollis' story was amazing! There were a couple of scenes where I held my breath while reading and did not even realize it until the scene was over. Ellen was a hard woman to figure out from meeting her in the first books. She was tough, fierce, a little mouthy and had a lot of secrets. But I loved getting to know her in this one. She was all those things but so much more. Who could have guessed what all she had endured and come our stronger for it?!? Hollis is this strong, very intelligent man who wants to cure his pack of their wolves, bring them back to normal. But interacting more with Ellen helps him see things in a different light. I love how he came to her defense in front of the pack, took the time to study her and know her, and struggle to fight their connection. Their bond was powerful. I loved their scenes and all that went with them. It was more than physical. Their first time and the after effects made my heart hurt. It was hard to read what she went through and then Hollis felt. But together they were strong, and so protective of each other. I love them together. The end scenes and epilogue were beyond perfect. This is my favorite book in the series, so far.

This book had to be my favorite in the Bloodmoon Brotherhood series. I mean it just ended with a bang and had me on the edge of my seat for literally the whole book. There was history lore, intrigue, mystery, loads of good/passionate love between two mates and of course loads and LOADS of action and drama that had me gasping until the very end.

To get most out of this book you’ll definitely want to read this book after you’ve read the other two books, I had initially started this one first and I was left more than confused by like the third page so had to go back and read the first two books before this one. On the bright side, literally all these books are amazing and quick reads so you won’t want to miss them anyways.

Ellen and Hollis’ dynamics had to be the best out of all the books simply for the fact that they were super opposites and it was heartwarming to see these two characters grow into loving each other, I don’t know if this is the end of this series but I can’t thank the publishers and Netgalley enough for sending me an ARC of this book that I just fell in love with immediately. I’m so gonna miss these characters so I’m hoping there’s more of the world that this wonderful author created.

Protecting the Wolf’s Mate by Sasha Summers
Blood Moon Brotherhood #3

Ellen is with the pack to help deliver Jessa’s second baby. She is a rather stiff person and leery of most with good reason. That said, she is all there for Jessa and the children. As the heroine of the book she will eventually end up mated with Dr. Hollis Robbins although they tap dance and spar verbally against one another one another. Ellen can’t understand why Hollis is so eager to “cure” the werewolf “disease” he and his friends were “afflicted” with. Nope, Ellen, born a shifter, is happy with who and what she is in spite of the suffering she experienced when a captive of The Others. As the two spend more time together, spar verbally, tussle at times and learn more about one another their eyes are opened and common ground is found.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the series. I wonder who will star in the next book and am eager to find out!

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Oh, I love a good enemies to lovers romance! Add in the PNR element and I am hooked!

I’ve been intrigued by Ellen since the brief introduction to her in the other Blood Moon Brotherhood books and I knew there was so much more to her than what was at the surface! I found myself rooting for Ellen to overcome the biases that were in her way—especially those that were built by Hollis! And that her true self and intentions would be revealed.

And Hollis! Lord, all that broody, brainy awesomeness that kept me enraptured by his story was so worth the discovery! I loved that his “true nature” was brought out by Ellen, and that he didn’t let his “science” brain interfere with what was happening to them.

I loved the romance that developed between Ellen and Hollis too—that he and she finally had someone to share their pain, their love and their future with! And their pasts too—as that was so much of Ellen’s story! An excellent addition to this series! ~ Missy, 4 stars

3.5stars. This is book 3 in the series and book 1 is still my favorite. This was a slower read for me and I struggled to connect with both Hollis and Ellen. It took a long time to understand the need for vengeance for Ellen. Once we find out it is horrifying and I don't blame her. I struggled with her inability to trust, always goading Hollis and Mal, denying her wolf's desire to accept Hollis at the same time. The ending made me wonder where book 4 is as the series seems unfinished.

Hollis and Ellen's story was sooooo good! I especially loved the change of the female being more intune with her wolf and really taking charge. There's a lot of sadness in both of their back stories, but I think it was balanced out beautifully with the sense of hope and love found in the story. My only question is, when can I read Dante and Anders story?! I hope there will be more in this series.

"Protecting the Wolf's Mate" begins where right before the last book left off, but this time, we follow Ellen and Hollis. Ellen has been a prisoner of the Others and their alpha Cyrus for a long time. While she doesn't seem to have any loyalty to them, Finn's pack cannot be too careful- Cyrus and his wolves are certainly out to get them. As we begin to learn more about Ellen, we understand why she is not and would never be loyal to Cyrus- mainly, he is responsible for the death of her mate (not fated, but chosen) and daughter.

Ellen is cautious of Finn's pack- although she knows they are the good guys, she is not sure if their goals align- particularly with regards to Hollis. Hollis is the smart one in the pack, and he is doing research into a potential cure for werewolves. Ellen cannot understand this, but she does respect Hollis. As they begin to spend more time together, neither can deny the pull they feel to be together nor the truth of what they are.

In this book, we learn more not only about Ellen, but the history of wolves and some unique abilities that Ellen and others may have. I am really curious to see how this develops further in future books. With regards to Ellen and Hollis, I was completely on board with them as a couple. In the same fashion as in previous books, there is plenty of denial/resistance to their fated bond and loads of sexual tension. However, and note that THIS MAY BE A SPOILER,

Overall, I enjoyed it, and I really liked getting more background into Ellen and the other wolves in general. This one seemed to have less romantic scenes, but lots more information and discovery (and the romance is definitely still there). I am pretty excited by the glimpses at the end of what is coming next in the overall story! While this could be read as a stand-alone (each book features a new romantic couple), I think the overarching story makes it helpful to read them in sequence (to get the full picture of the pack/wolves and the conflicts with the Others).

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Ellen has known nothing but pain, humiliation, and fear for far too long, all byproducts of being held prisoner by a maniacal werewolf. But she's free now and enjoying every moment of it, especially those that get her closer to her goal - revenge. Yet, there's more. Her wolf wants to be pack though she refuses to join and believes Hollis is their mate.

Hollis' priority is his pack and keeping them safe, including Ellen, the woman that doesn't want anything from him, nor does she really need it. Nevertheless, he wants to protect her by any means necessary. He'd even die for her, his life without her would be meaningless anyway.

Ellen was born and a shifter, knowing nothing different, whereas Hollis was a human unwillingly changed into a wolf. Having spent the majority of his life as simply a man, he's doing everything he can to reverse his "illness."

Even if Ellen is able to move past what happened to her and let Hollis is more than she already has, what will it mean for them if Hollis gets his wish and is able to become solely human again?

Will Ellen ever find closure with her past and what happened to her? Will she continue to search for vengeance or embrace a future with Hollis instead? Will Hollis accept his new nature or continue to change what he's become, what led him to Ellen? Is a HEA possible?

One-click now and follow along as two people, each with their own struggles, must let go of the past in order to have a future.

Just finished the last installment of the Blood Moon Brotherhood and wow, just wow!! First of all, I would like to say that Sasha Summers really knows how to create a bad guy of gargantuan proportions! Cyrus, the antagonist, is truly one of the best villains I have read! I scale my villains on a “I want them dead” scale while the story progresses. He received a 10/10 on the “I want them dead scale! I can honestly say that I already wanted this guy dead by book 2, but after reading this story, you are ready to crawl into the book and help the heroes/ heroines kill him!

Let me back up though and tell you that this story revolves around Hollis, the scientist turned werewolf, that has been obsessed with finding a cure for the infection that caused him to become a werewolf. Enter stage right, his mate, Ellen, a natural born werewolf who is proud of her wolf heritage and strives for her species to survive. Hollis is now torn between finding a cure and protecting his mate from Cyrus, the vicious alpha of a rival werewolf pack, who will stop at nothing to get Ellen back. Ellen’s tragic backstory is finally revealed, and the emotions it invoked were insane! I loved, loved, loved how this book, not only revealed the origin story of Hollis’s pack, but also gave us a peek into what might lie ahead for the unmated wolves in the pack. All in all, this book was a perfect ending for Hollis and Ellen and a fabulous conclusion for the Blood Moon Brotherhood series.

I feel like this book can either be read as part of the larger storyline or as a standalone. Though there are not giant chunks of “catch you up” paragraphs, it was easy enough to join back in without this refresher.

Ellen joined the misfit pack that Hollis is a member of by protecting the alpha’s pregnant mate. She has an affinity for man/wolf relations (internally, as shifters), so she has been a surprisingly good influence on these new-er shifters. She’s also got a boatload of secrets that she keeps tucked away, but finds herself more willing to open up and shed the prickly exterior, especially for Hollis. Hollis has been tormented by Ellen since she came to live with them. Since he’s a man of science and facts and she is a strong believer in magic, they were bound to clash. He also has the unique disadvantage of not being able to shift into his wolf because of a heart defect.

Once it becomes clear that the Others (the big bad) is coming for them in a very real way, Ellen and Hollis (or their inner wolves) recognize the urgency of their fated mating. This was filled with dirty sexy times, lots of action, and one tough magical shifter in the form of Ellen. Hollis isn’t too bad, either. This pack is rapidly growing on me and it is clear there are even more happy couples in the not so distant future.

Ellen has one goal: vengeance.
This was a pretty decent story. I didn’t realize it was the third book in the series, which hurt it a bit for me. Beyond that though, I really liked both Hollis and Ellen. Their story makes me want to find time and go back to read the rest of the series. I recommend.

The best book in this series!! Listened to 9+ hours audiobook in half a day (at 1.5, sometimes 1.75 speed) on a Sunday, and that definitely says so much about how much I enjoyed this.

Hollis and Ellen-- Aahhh!!! Their chemistry, sexual tension, and romantic tension were just so intense, and I admire how the author presented it. The development of the romance between them was well-done. There was a lot of push and pull but it didn't feel dragged out at all.

Hollis was already my favourite character since the first book, but I fell in love with Ellen in this book. She was such a wonderful character, so very different from the FLs I had read before. I enjoyed the fact that she was the more aggressive one in furthering their relationship. It was really funny how Hollis couldn't handle her at all.

I just love them so much!! And I also want to read about Anders' and Dante's stories T^T

***
Man, it's been a while since I enjoyed a romance novel and the couples' dynamics like this. I now have more idea about what I'll be looking for in my future romance reads.

Ellen is a wolf shifter and wants revenge against the wolf that held her captive. Hollis is a doctor and a wolf but cannot shift because of a heart murmur. He is trying to find a cure for the wolf bite but has been unsuccessful. Ellen was rescued by Hollis’ pack and is considered sort of the enemy but they say they’ll release her once the alpha’s mate has her baby. Hollis and Ellen are mates but he still wants the cure. Cyrus, the other Alpha that wants Ellen, will do anything to get her back. Hollis loves her and even if he can’t shift, he will protect her with his life.
Steamy. Action. Bloody. This is the third book in this series but first time I am reading this author. Really good and can’t wait to check out the next one.

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

I wish this wasn't the last book.

AFAIK, there won't be any more books in this series. Having said that, I was pleased that the author wrapped up one of the major things that had yet to be concluded.

This is Hollis' story – the wolf who has never been able to shift because of a heart condition. We met Ellen in the previous book and I was surprised to find out that she would be Hollis' mate (I hadn't read the blurb). These two make an unusual pair but I loved how it all worked out. We get to find out more about Ellen and what happened to her and who she really is. We also get more of Finn's pack.

If the major thing hadn't been wrapped up in this book I would have really been upset that we won't get stories for the other members of Finn's pack so I'm very happy that it was taken care of in this story.

Once again, I can't say enough good things about Connor Brown's performance of this entire series. I need to check out more of his audiobooks.

Ellen is only helping Finn’s pack till the baby is born then she is back to have her vengeance against Cyrus who held her captive and drank her blood. When Ellen’s wolf recognizes Hollis as her mate she fights the draw but then she sees Hollis wolf and she can no longer fight it. No matter how bad Ellen wants Hollis, Cyrus is coming for her and it’s her duty to save him and the pack that has taken her in but there are technical difficulties that might prevent her from doing so. I wish I read the books leading to this book but it can be read as a standalone.

Thanks Netgalley for a copy to read and give my honest opinion.

First of all I'd like to say that going into this book blind I did not realize it was the third in a series and I wish Netgalley did better on this principle. Ellen and Hollis though.....wow. This was a great book but it's dumbed down by the fact that it's the first I've read in an already three book series. Worth a read though even though I have hundreds on my tbr pile I thought I could get through it with no problems but it was annoying the crap out of me. World building was limited m sure by being the third book but the characters were fun and you just needed a HEA about 50 % in. Four stars.

This is Book 3 in the Blood Moon Brotherhood. It was really good and a good addition the series. Ellen was once a part of Cyrus’s group of Others. She’s now helping Jessa with her pregnancy. After the baby’s born, she’s done with this pack. Or is she? She has a secret that Hollis is determined to get out of her. Things happen fast in this story and will keep your attention from page 1. I didn’t go to bed until I was finished with it. I hope there will be more books in the series because it’s such a good series. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.

I really enjoyed this work of fiction. I appreciate how the relationship developed from a friendship. The couple has its ups and downs as any natural relationship does. It was very authentic. I love have straight forward, tell it like it is, and go after what you want Ellen is. Hollis is doubtful and stubborn which is a relatable character set for a man of science. After finishing the novel, I’m left contemplating the necessity of subsequent novels. Sasha has laid the ground work for future romances and could in every right walk away from this series. I look forward to seeing more from this author.

- Reviewed by Linda

Disappointed, finally the bad guy was to get his comeuppance, what a let down. More time was spent on the sex scenes that on the plot. The final battle was reduced to a few pages, most of the book was sexual tension, and one of the characters inability to change. The other characters that we had been reading about in 3 books had their futures reduced to a few hints. With no new books scheduled that I can find they are left in limbo.
This was the start of what could have been at least a 6 book series.
