Good continuation
Liked the twist at the end, Harry Potter elements in full swing carried over from the previous book. Sarah has a Malfoy vibe and Angel/Emma have a Ron/Hermione vibe and Luke has a very obvious Harry vibe right down to the fact of his love interest who happens to be Angel’s sibling exactly like Harry and Ginny. I low key love all of this. The events are thought out well and the humor is good. However, I get that repetitive humour is funny but only when done well, for example the Moi thing angel and his mum do - is done well. The stuff about the outdated references and everyone complaining about it every time- kinda gets on the nerves after a bit. But anyway overall a solid book and good continuation of the story. Hope there is a third, but so far I haven’t seen a hint of it.

This book is about an ordinary young man who finds out that he has magic abilities and goes to school to learn how to properly use them .
I really like this series a lot happened and poor angle but I'm glad that Luke and Tyler finally connected can't wait for more of this story .

Brilliant
Good book, great characters, worldbuilding & storyline. Magic and mayhem aswell as gay romance. Cannot recommend enough. Can't wait for the 3rd book.

Netherfall Academy: The Red King is the second book in the Netherfall series, and what a ride Matt takes us on. If you liked Netherfall Academy: Awakening, you may love Red King even more.
Luke and his friends are back. This time, they’re not first year students. Most of them are training to become Sentinels, the magic-wielding fighting force of the Magicians. If you were bummed about the lack of mystical creatures in Awakening, fear not. We are introduced to the Fae in Red King, most notably Prince Arion, King Oberon’s son, who stays at Netherfall for the school year to strengthen Magician/Fae relations.
The characters are completely recognizable from Awakening, and they all grow in different ways. Several others that were minor are also brought to the front more, like Beaux, who is now closely behind Angel in my favourite character list (although there was a scene where I shouted, “What the hell, Beaux?” and proceeded to harass Matt about it. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you read it). Sarah seemed to get extra bitchy. Alec was upgraded from pretty and boring to more likeable. Emma, sadly, isn’t around as much, mostly because she is the only one not training to be a Sentinel. Luke and Angel are mostly the same, except I don’t think Angel is quite as witty as he was in Awakening because he’s not as prevalent, probably to make room for other characters to shine.
The Red King dives into politics of both Magicians and the Fae, both of which appear to be far more complicated than you would think. There is also the issue of the Lady of Light, who makes a comeback. People are keeping secrets, and not all of them could be harmless. Couple that with Sentinel training, babysitting Arion, and dealing with their love lives, Luke and his friends have plenty to do. If you’re expecting badass, you will get plenty of badass.
I feel like The Red King informs the reader well enough about what happened in Awakening that you do not necessarily need to read it first. However, I truly think you will benefit from starting with Awakening, if only for the character relationships. You can really get a sense of how this group of young people established their bonds of friendship by experiencing it, something that a summary can’t properly convey.
