November 8, 2019I'm SO excited to have Getting Off Easy done and almost out in the world! This is the fourth book in the Boys of the Big Easy series and I was thrilled to go back to this world! If this is your first Boys of the Big Easy story, no worries! You won't be lost at all-- they each stand alone! If you've been to New Orleans with my hot single dads and sassy single moms, then you know that this book will have lots of funny moments, steamy moments, and heartwarming moments! (and yes, you'll get to see the other Boys in this one too ;) )
Did I mention that this book has a baby AND a dog? :) Along with a firefighter, jazz musician who becomes an overnight Superdad when he finds a baby boy dropped off on his doorstep with only an unsigned note? And his little-bit-older, little-bit-more-sophisticated linguistics professor neighbor? lol! They are an opposites attract story for sure, but they are SOOO amazing together!
I can't wait for you to get to know James and Harper! Coming January 14th! (I know, I know, that seems so far away but it's almost the holidays! We all know the next couple of months are going to fly by! ;) )

And his little-bit-older, little-bit-more-sophisticated linguistics professor neighbor? lol! They are an opposites attract story for sure, but they are SOOO amazing together!

Another fantastic addition to this series!!
When James Reynaud, firefighter, musician, over all gorgeous, funny guy meets the one woman in all of New Orleans he can't impress, sparks fly. Especially since prim and proper Professor Harper Broussard is trying really, really hard to NOT be impressed by her charming neighbor. Circumstances (helped by James) keep throwing them together and suddenly they are a lot more than just neighbors.
I stayed up way too late reading this book! I loved everything about it- from the set up to the epilogue but I especially loved James. Sweet, charming, protective and sexy, the man literally had romance hero written all over him. Harper is his perfect match, as the classy professor was nothing like his usual type but everything he needed. Absolutely a must read!!

Oh my! Looks like this will be my last read book of 2019 and let me tell you, it was an amazing one. I cannot get enough of Harper and James. They are just so freaking cute together. They made me laugh and smile throughout the whole story. I want me some James. I love all the ways he tries to get Harper involved with his life. They're both such sweethearts. I love them so much. And then when he comes to her door with a baby? Just wow. I love the road they took together to solve the mystery of the baby left on his doorstep and I absolutely loved how Erin Nicholas wrote that part of the story. I had an inkling as I was reading it and I'm so happy I guessed right. There was a moment where Erin does what she does best, pulled at my heartstrings and totally made me cry. So yes, there is a tissue warning in this story. But the HEA at the end was so worth it. It was so happily sigh worthy. And don't worry, this story is just as hot and sexy as the other Boys of the Big Easy series, but it sure had a lot of heart too. What a wonderful end to an equally wonderful series which I have loved reading. I will miss my time in Louisiana but I can't wait for what else Ms. Nicholas has in store later.

Gaaah, gggnnn... urgh. WOWZA!!! You know when something has you so happy and excited and satisfied that you can't even come up with *any* words, much less THE words that express how incredible you feel? Yeah, Getting Off Easy, the fourth book in Erin Nicholas's Boys of the Big Easy series is all that.
The Boys of the Big Easy series has followed a group of single parents in New Orleans who've stumbled into, been seized by, or slowly acquiesced to love, and each story has been deeply fulfilling. Getting Off Easy is a little different only in that James Reynaud and Harper Broussard don't start out as parents. Or in love ;) But Erin Nicholas takes them, and us, there, in this wild, wonderful read.
James is a firefighter and has honestly had no trouble finding female companionship, or really, any companionship--he's a likable guy with some heroic qualities which people tend to find attractive. Plus, he plays the piano. (See, kids? Those lessons do pay off! ;) )
Harper moves in across the hall and is way too smart, too educated, too classy, too fabulous for him. But he can't stop thinking about this linguistics professor or trying to win her attention. Watching these two dance around each other as they slowly work out how to dance together? This is the read of your dreams.
James and Harper definitely do not have what would likely be considered a traditional relationship--no, this isn't a nursery-rhyme-perfect story where they start off sitting in a tree and K-I-S-S-I-N-G and end with the baby in the carriage! What I love is that their atypical relationship is absolutely perfect for them, and is a journey full of warmth and joy even as there is some mystery and a few tears along the way. Real life is often like that, and Ms Nicholas captures it all beautifully with heart and honesty and humor.
One of the things Erin Nicholas does beautifully is write characters I love in community--these men and women don't exist in a vacuum. They are good friends who have good friends around them. Reading how they encourage, support, mercilessly tease, and defend each other is a very great pleasure. Getting Off Easy provides plenty of that, as James and Harper do rely on their friends to help them make sense of the curves that life is throwing their way. Knowing that James and Harper never face their challenges alone is satisfying as well.
Ultimately Getting Off Easy is a fantastic romance. It stands alone well, but is a gem of a finish to the equally excellent Boys of the Big Easy series. It's a testament to the strength and beauty of love, and how being open to both can truly open doors in the best ways. This amazing story is exactly everything and leaves you wanting even more of it.

Once again, Erin Nicholas does not disappoint! James and Harper are fun, sexy, hot characters that you can't help but fall in love with immediately. A perfect ending to an amazing series, although I always hate to see a series I love come to an end.

Whenever a new Erin Nicholas book is released into the universe, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in my life screeches to a halt, and my eyes, heart and soul greedily soak up every word. My apologies to the book I was in the middle of reading and ditched, to the other books that had top priority and got pushed aside, and to my bed that I left cold and alone for a night.
The Boys of the Big Easy is one of my all-time favorite book worlds, so I was eagerly anticipating returning there with James and Harper's story and, oh baby, it really delivered! Take one hunky, younger, firefighter/musician with an unrepentant grin, and a brainy, introverted, scholar able to induce librarian and professorial fantasies at a single glance, and add the twist of a surprise baby to knock both hero and heroine off their stride, and Iโm SOOO there!
With the impeccable comedic timing and perfect balance of humor, heat and heart Iโve come to expect from this writer, James and Harper's story is the cherry on top of this sundae dessert series. Itโs always extra delicious for me when the hero is the first to fall, and watching James as he jumped through Harper's hoops, and then seeing him with baby Isaac, well, I was a big ol' puddle of swoon. And Iโd be lying if I said the younger man/older woman trope wasnโt a lot of fun.
If this is your first introduction to this series, itโs a great place to start, since these books stand alone. But Iโll warn you. You will fall in love with all of these Big Easy characters, and they'll make you want to read every one of their books. This story is fun and flirty, and witty and humorous, yet poignant and moving. Your emotions will love the workout they get and your heart will be left smiling once you finish this delightful, touching, phenomenal, feel-good read!

I loved this story! I won an arc and Iโm so glad I did! James totally made me fall in love. I loved his personality and how he was there for anyone and anything. It was so cute the banter between Harper and him. I loved it. It was a hot heartfelt book. I would like to learn more. I would have loved to see how it worked with the 13 yr old also if they kept Isaac or if Sophia kept him later on.

Have you ever just melted seeing a big-hot guy holding a sweet little baby? I have and so has Harper. She's older and smarter, reads romance books, and can't let her hot fireman, jazz playing, neighbor know how she feels. They have been working on this flirty help me out please deal for six months and its time...until instead of a dog, lizard or more he's there with a baby boy someone left on his doorstep. Just remember the words "best wingman ever".
James knows she's smarter, who cares about the age? Certainly not him. He's never felt this way about a woman. Does he want to be like his buds at the firehouse settled with one woman and the ones settled from the band? What he doesn't know is if he's the dad and if he is--who the heck is the mother?
This is just fun to read and leaves you with a smile on your face.

Getting Off Easy was such an awesome read!
It has a sexy, "go with the flow" firefighter and a professor who loves organization. What's not to love.
James and Harper are a great team. I love that they grew together and that they both took care of others just in different ways. Seeing more of the past characters was great. Loved this series!

Erin Nicholas has a way...She just knows how to capture the reader from the first page of her works and this book was no different. When she sent out her newsletter about Getting Off Easy she suggested a game for us to play...
When I sent back my answer, I told Ms. Nicholas, I would fork over the full $8 dollars so I could have all of these traits as I was all in and so was Ms. Nicholas because this was exactly who James Reynaud was.
Yet, in telling this story, we also saw he was much more than a list of traits. This was a man who seemed to just go with the flow and enjoyed things that were presented to him. Women were interested because of the Firefighter Thing and when both were on the same page, James was fine with it. But when he meets his new neighbor, James sees someone who is nothing like all those past flings...
Harper Broussard is everything opposite to the past women James has hung out with...She is a buttoned-up linguistics professor likes her life being focused. She believes in plans. They have served her well. She has had relationships in the past but when they were over...she never experienced any of the angst her beloved romance books talks of...She never felt any of the goosebumps or tingles from the men she had been with. If she was looking for those feelings she chalked it up to finding them through her vast reading.
But then there was a knock on her door and there stood James...This man who was a picture-perfect vision of every cover she had ever seen...The man was charming with a capital C and kept coming up with reasons to ask for her assistance in some way. Oh, he tried to flirt in a nonoffensive way. She would give him her strictest responses and he would surprise her by living up to them.
The tingles and swooshes in her belly surprised her. These were the feelings she would have when James teased and talked with her...the banter was sharp and fun. He would let her know she was cute and pretty, things she never thought of herself and what was more telling, he never made any obvious moves of a player.
This is all I am giving you about this story. The Blurb gives you everything you need to know about this sweet, fun, very sexy ride. These characters have huge hearts. They are perfect for each other and you will love them. I read this practically in one sitting annoyed when my real life got in the way.
As I said, Erin Nicholas has a way with creating characters, stories and making us feel everything they feel...please, please may she keep doing it.

James Reynaud is half in love with his too good for him, too smart for him neighbor, Harper Broussard. He loves digging beneath her prim outer facade and seeing her blush, seeing her soften toward him every time he manufactures a reason for knocking on her door with another request for help. Somehow, someway, they've developed a friendship based on her helping him care for things, for pets, while he's on shift at the fire station, but it just may be too big a request to ask for her help with the baby that's been left on his doorstep.
Harper's at her best when she's got a plan. So when James needs her help with a baby (a BABY!) of all things, she's really not sure if she's up for the task as she's been up for the task of caring for his plant, his lizard, and his dog. But as the days wind by, somehow she and James seamlessly become parents to little Isaac and their hearts are becoming entwined, not only with each other, but with little Isaac too. What will happen if Isaac's mother shows up? Is James Isaac's father? And how will that affect their newfound love?
Awwww, that's what I was doing while reading James and Harper's love story. He's got to be one of the sweetest, swooniest characters I have read in a good long while. I love how easy-going but determined he is with Harper, and how he gets her to see herself the way he sees her, that she is as much a nurturer and good with going with the flow as he is. I absolutely love these two, their love story, their friends, their baby, and the community they surround themselves with. The Boys of the Big Easy is such a great series and I cannot wait for more!

This was a fun and easy read! We've seen James in the other books, but we're only introduced to the idea of Harper in the previous book, Nice and Easy. (She was off-page.) From that one scene I knew I wanted more of this couple's banter, and I'm so pleased that the author felt the same way!
Harper is smart and accomplished, yet still has a fun and playful side - even if she didn't see it in herself. In fact, she didn't see herself the way everyone else did - as someone who could be counted on, nurturing, and supportive - and that was a beautiful self-discovery for her. I liked that she kept James on his toes, and didn't immediately fall for his charm or his smile, but that she was still willing to help when he needed her. They had a real partnership.
I liked that James was the one who took in strays: stray plants, stray animals, stray people. So many times only women are portrayed as being nurturers, so to see a man in this role made my feminist heart flutter with joy! Yes, his having a past while Harper had almost none is a tired cliche (which I'm over, thanks authors), but it wasn't as bad as his friends'. I liked that deviation from the "norm" very much.
And there were a few details that gave me pause (she's been working at the university for a year, but only moved into the apartment across from James a few months ago), but they do not detract from the story at all.
Nicholas has a way of bringing the sights, sounds, and smells of the Big Easy to life on the page, and my desire to travel for a visit one day grows with every book. Her characters are nuanced and don't always fall into standard tropes. Her books aren't as cookie cutter as some, which means I'm never bored. I can hardly wait to see what her next series will bring!
This was a fun and easy read! We've seen James in the other books, but we're only introduced to the idea of Harper in the previous book, Nice and Easy. (She was off-page.) From that one scene I knew I wanted more of this couple's banter, and I'm so pleased that the author felt the same way!
Harper is smart and accomplished, yet still has a fun and playful side - even if she didn't see it in herself. In fact, she didn't see herself the way everyone else did - as someone who could be counted on, nurturing, and supportive - and that was a beautiful self-discovery for her. I liked that she kept James on his toes, and didn't immediately fall for his charm or his smile, but that she was still willing to help when he needed her. They had a real partnership.
I liked that James was the one who took in strays: stray plants, stray animals, stray people. So many times only women are portrayed as being nurturers, so to see a man in this role made my feminist heart flutter with joy! Can I start by saying I want to say all the things about this book? I know I canโt since that would defeat the purpose of you (reading this) to read the book. I can say that I fell for James. No big surprise if youโve ever read any of Erin Nicholasโs heroes. Not only is he a fireman (swoon) but he plays piano in a jazz band ( double swoon). How can any woman resist? Then to knock on the neighborโs door and need help? Triple swoon!!! Does it matter what he needs help with? Not really but Harper (said neighbor) helps him in her own way. He inherits a tree, she makes him figure out what kind it is and how to take care of it. A bearded dragon needs a new home? She researches what Henry needs flies and all. Stray dog? Harper is just keeping him for herself, sort of. But when a baby shows up, they are both shocked. James is at a loss how someone would trust him enough with their new born. Until he assumes heโs the father even though he canโt remember a time when he wasnโt careful.
What I adored about James is his capability to know what needs there are and take care of them. What I adore about Harper is her ability to focus and analyze what needs to be done. They compliment each other in every way. The relationship between them grows naturally. I loved that! They really started dating without even leaving their building. When they do and have a common goal? The sparks fly high and hot. Didnโt suspect where the search was going but was so thrilled with where it lead.

Every time I finish a story by this author, I think โWow...it canโt get better than that!โ Well let me tell you it does.
James makes me swoon and laugh. Harper is one heck of a smart, classy Professor. Getting these two together has some funny moments. James comes up with some good excuses to enlist help from his sexy neighbor across the landing in their apartment building. A ficus aka olive tree heโs been given to take care of; a dog thatโs left at the fire station; and last, but not least, a baby. These are all reasons that being James to knock on Harperโs door and ask for help. Thereโs no way Harper can not help him. I mean how can she turn down this hot, sexy firefighter begging for help.
The baby. Is James the father? And whoโs the mother? While on this new, full of twists adventure to figure out this baby situation James and Harper learn things about themselves and grow. I loved how their relationship developed into more and how determined they both were in everything that was thrown at them. Oh how I loved being back with the Boys of The Big Easy. I loved the characters of firefighter, James Reynaud and professor Harper Broussar, neighbors who are drawn to one another. James loves to tease and torment Harper and that led to quite a few humorous encounters. Harper is determined not to be impressed by the oh so hot firefighter and I loved her spirit.
James is such a caring and swoon worthy man who ticked all the boxes. For me Harper was the opposite of what James had always gone for but was in fact the missing piece to fulfil him. I loved the build of their relationship as Ms.Nicholas wove a story that had me absolutely captivated from the first to the last chapter.
I loved the friendship and camaraderie that James and Harper share not only with each other but with their friends. Adding in a baby left on Jameโs doorstep and you know that heart strings are going to be tugged and emotions will be hire..
This is a fun, romantic, sweet, steamy, and at times emotional story that was a great addition to the series. I felt as though I was witnessing their relationship as it grew and that added an additional layer to the story.
Ms. Nicholas writes stories that draw me in and get me invested with her characters right from the start. If you havenโt read any of the other books in this series, do yourselves a favour and one click when you can, I donโt think you will be disappointed.

Note: An ARC was given generously by the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. Plus this a series. Although this can be read as a standalone, advice would be to read other stories in the series too to understand the backstories.
The redeeming qualities:
The cover, oh so darn hot, hot, hot!
The summary, about a firefighter younger man trying to impress his neighbour next door for the past 6 months but unsuccessful so far. And a baby drops in, and he asks for her help again and together they both try to deal with being unofficial "parents to the baby" while figuring out their own attraction.
The characters are both charming and witty, and cute and adorable, and so darn loveable.
The writing is fast-paced, no grammatical errors, and connecting the plot in a fabulous way to keep you turning the pages and enjoy the story at every turn.
The ending -Is also loveable and funny and so darn perfect.
Only not so redeemable quality - The chapters were a bit too long, and could've been done better if she'd added more chapters, instead of making the existing chapters long.
BUT an excellent read, and definitely recommend.

I was really looking forward to reading this book and I really like this author's writing style. This book is the 4th in the series of Boys of the Big Easy.
This book is a quick read and I absolutely loved James and Harper's story and seeing where it was going to take them.
James is a fire fighter, he's a very talented man and he's also a cheeky chappie, flirty guy, who always does what's right.
People would leave things on his doorstep for him to care for.
He'll help out absolutely anyone weather that is taking care of an Olive tree or helping a kid from the local school with a lizard,or even being an agony aunt from crying women.
James could have any woman he wants anytime he wanted, if he wanted he was used to women basically throwing themselves at him, so with Harper he was quite shocked she didn't.
Harper is his neighbour from across the hall. She's very professional and is a professor in linguistics, she teaches and love's her work.
She helps out James when he needs it but always makes him work for her help
Harper starts to develop feeling for James and she hated that she had no control over her feelings for James but they were meant for each other. At first I thought. Is James to good to be true?
There is definitely sexual chemistry between them both.
James can be quite flirty and she is trying hard not to notice the little things about about him, and is looking for excuses not to find him attractive but there is chemistry between them.
James is very protective, he's funny at times and very sexy and I love this about him.
I absolutely loved reading this book. I read it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down and stayed up late to read. I will definitely be recommending this book when it is released.

Harper Broussard doesn't know quite what to think about her across-the-hall neighbor, firefighter, jazz musician and all-around-good guy James Reynard. He's super sexy and funny and seems to need a lot of help from her. He knocks on her door and asks her what she knows about ficus-ing. Ficus-ing? Harper is a linguistics professor and she knows one thing for sure - ficusing is not a word. Plus James' "ficus" tree is actually an Arbequina olive tree. Next appearance is about the bearded dragon lizard left in front of James' door. The drop-offs at James' door get more complicated from there. Dogs to a baby. But, oh well! Harper's in for the duration.

Brace yourself. You will 100% be losing your heart to James and Harper. I donโt think Iโve ever read a story that was filled with so much sweetness! There were so many moments that were overflowing with so much love it felt like my heart was going to burst from happiness while I was reading.
James and Harper might appear to be the text book definition of opposites but their hearts are two perfectly matched puzzle pieces. These two are so selfless and giving in so many different ways I canโt even begin to explain it. Their build up from neighbors to friends and finally so much more is loaded with humor, swoony romance and heat in a way that is entirely captivating.

This book was EVERYTHING. James and Harper were amazing together, but the depth of emotions I felt while reading takes this book to a completely different level. I laughed at their antics, fell in love with these two, and there were moments of ugly crying. Erin Nicholas is my absolute favorite author, but the twists in this book have taken her writing to an entirely new level that will not disappoint! If you buy one book this year, this needs to be it!!!

Totally loved this book. I liked how the story started and then took us back to the months prior to James and Harper and their 'relationship' and the day that would change things for both of them, in many different ways. Iโve always enjoyed Harper when weโve heard about her but when we get more Harper and James โ yes, please. No matter the slight age gap between these two, these are two people who should definitely be together. I liked how James was right in the situation from the beginning and Harper was a little hesitant, but got on board quickly. I wasnโt expecting the outcome to be what it was in relation to Isaac and Sophie, but in the end it worked out perfectly for all of them. My favorite line from this story was, โas long as thereโs love and support, it really doesnโt matter how the people in the family come together or if they share bloodโ. Thank you, Erin Nicholas for another great book!

James is a firefighter in New Orleans, a city that he loves being a part of. James is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. When the professor moves in, across the hall, James is immediately smitten. She's nothing like any of the other ladies James has been with but maybe that's part of her allure. He sets out to get to know her in some amusing ways.
Harper is a quiet woman. She's very organized and never met a schedule she didn't like. She's a language professor at Loyola and loves words. When she meets her neighbor, James, he's nothing like anyone she'd ever be involved with. But there's something...
When James comes home from work to find a basket left in front of his door, he immediately knocks on Harper's door,just as he has several other times to ask for her help. But what's in the basket is no olive tree, bearded dragon or puppy. Can the two of them team up to deal with what's in the basket?
This book is filled with twists and turns and plenty of feels. I loved it!

Super predictable with typical male character who is apparently perfect and irresistible to all women around him. It also seemed incredibly unbelievable- apparently having an infant means a single poop explosion (which leads to naked shower time with a perspective lover) and then heaps of sex while the baby sleeps. AHAHAHA FALLING OFF MY CHAIR WITH LAUGHTER.

Author Erin Nicholas has always had the uncanny knack of writing series that prove that you donโt have to be related to be a family; The Boys of the Big Easy series is no different and in Getting Off Easy she really brings that to the forefront. This book was in my opinion a bit different from the other books in this series in many ways, and it took me a bit longer than normal to really get into this book, but by the end I was completely in love with these characters, their relationship, and their unusual but perfect family.
Harper and Jamesโฆwow, I loved the flirty friendship between them from the start and give James big kudos for not only finding interesting ways to talk with Harper, but for his persistence because she didnโt make it easy. Part of why it took me awhile to really get into this story is all of Harperโs inner dialog, for me it seemed to drag on and I found it frustrating that she was interested/entertained by James, but didnโt seem to want a relationship with him because of how she perceived him; too young, too flighty, too sexual. I felt she was judging him even though he was showing her over and over that he was a good guy and would obviously do almost anything for anybody in need. Yes, she eventually realized he was more than the outside package, but for awhile I was kind of rooting for someone else to come along and snatch him up while she was being all judgey.
I enjoyed watching Harper and James figure out parenthood when a baby is dropped off on his doorstep. To say they have some hilarious parenting moments is putting it mildly. It was interesting watching them work together to find the babyโs mother and in the process begin to discover how much they enjoy spending time together and how their admiration of one another grows.
While the plot twist of Issacโs (the baby) mother was pretty easy to figure out, I loved the way Harper and James accepted her and worked with her to make the situation right for all of them.
Entertaining, sweet, funny, and filled with lots of love Getting Off Easy was a delight!

What a whirlwind!
James and Harper live across the landing from one another and while they've always crushed on each other, their relationship has mostly been relegated to her helping him with whatever lands at his door. Just as their relationship is about to take it up a notch, a baby shows up at his door and things both stop and escalate pretty quickly.
This book was hot...like scorchingly so...but also really sweet. More than once I found myself getting a little choked up because I wanted everything to work out. I guessed who the mother was pretty early on, but that didn't stop my enjoyment of the story. If anything, it had me reading even faster to find out how everything was going to be resolved.
This was my first Boys of the Big Easy read, but I've read Nicholas's other Bayou series. I'm now a fan of both and will have to go back and read the first three because these guys sound right up my alley.

This book was hot...like scorchingly so...but also really sweet. More than once I found myself getting a little choked up because I wanted everything to work out. I guessed who the mother was pretty early on, but that didn't stop my enjoyment of the story. If anything, it had me reading even faster to find out how everything was going to be resolved.
This was my first Boys of the Big Easy read, but I've read Nicholas's other Bayou series. I'm now a fan of both and will have to go back and read the first three because these guys sound right up my alley.
