Something About Us

Rate this book
Wild party girl Annie is willing to try anything once. Except commitment. After a vicious high school heartbreak, she would rather have fun than put her heart on the line. So when a friend-of-a-friend makes her want to do more than kiss and run, Annie hesitates. Not because she’s afraid of losing her heart, but because she’s surprised at the strength of her feelings for Meg.

Meg is confident, fun, and can match Annie shot for shot, while still keeping a cool head. When they’re together, there’s never a dull moment. But Meg wants more than a good time. She wants to break down the wall Annie has built around her heart and offer her lasting love.

Will the party girl take a chance on something real with her heart or is she destined to dance with herself?

This short, sweet and fluffy novella is a follow-up story to Something About You .

Jea Hawkins writes sweet and spicy contemporary lesbian romance. She writes all her paranormal romance and urban fantasy as Lucy True.
Regardless of genre, if love conquers all, then she’d like to think her heroines can rule the world one day. An east coast transplant to the Midwest, she loves to write about complicated women and settings that feel like home. Her historical / contemporary romance, As Long As Love Lasts, has been nominated for a GCLS Literary Award.
Personal addictions include genealogy, autumn, cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, and the Sims 3. She’s both an avid reader and gamer, and hopes readers don’t mind a few geeky references here and there in her work.

The book begins at the wedding of Meg's boss, Kelsey. Meg is the co-maid of honor with Kelsey's best friend, Annie, an event planner who never stops working and barrels through life getting what she wants. When Meg signals an interest in Annie, Annie backs away and the two don't speak for a year. Then Annie wants to plan an anniversary party for Kelsey and she and Meg are back in touch. But Meg is leery of Annie and doesn't want to be her experiment. The coming together is about Annie getting past the emotional wall she's constructed and Meg believing this could work.

This is a pretty short book and it's pretty much a middling lesbian romance, nothing terrible and nothing all that exceptional.

Mostly believable

There were parts near the beginning that were "off" - like when Annie said to Meg, "you want a relationship and I want a fling," and then was confused as to why Meg didn't act in their mutual attraction. I could see if this exchange had happened years earlier, and Annie had changed her mind in the meantime, but that's not the case. At least, we don't find out until later that she is reconsidering.

All ends well - of course. But I wish there had been more insight for the reader when this happened.

I loved Something About You, about Kelsey and Dre, so it was nice to read a shorter story focusing on other characters in their story.

Sweet

This is a sweet love story. The main characters were in love long before admitting it. The story is well written with a nice ending.
