With the alliance between the demon army and Ryunheit complete, Veight's dream of inter-species coexistence has come to fruition, with the city prospering like never before. At the same time, ominous rumors of a “hero” with strength rivaling the Demon Lord himself start circulating in the north, where the second regiment is on the losing end of a prolonged battle. Veight rushes with his master to confront this famed hero at the fortress city of Schverm, but he finds the Demon Lord has beaten him to the punch. Who will emerge victorious in this battle between the two strongest people in existence!?
This book expanded on everything I enjoyed about the first one.
We get to see more of the world, we get to see the human side of things with their Hero, and just what it means for demon society. We learn about the characters and their various backgrounds, as well as see a massive change over when it comes to how things are being done in the demon territory.
I have to say, all in all I really enjoyed this book. The writing is really well done, and we get to see the evolution of some of the side characters where they get fleshed out and feel more real. Our protagonist too gets a bit more fleshed out, though I feel not as much as his mentor and the demon king did.
We also get to see how the other demon armies are doing, be it good or bad, and the flaws within their command system and just how much the protagonist can assist them. And though I am not a fan of political intrigue in my books, the way it is handled in this book is detailed enough to keep me interested while at the same point not going so deep as to become boring. Something I was very appreciative of in the long run and hope it remains that way in future books.
In the end, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this world. The world building is handled really well and I like how everything is set up. I am curious as to how things are going to swing in the next book with some of the things that were put into motion...
After the sudden reveal of the secret of the Demon Lord, Veight and the Demon Lord relationship growing ever closer.
This volume is mainly talking about the effect of the cause that already happened way back in volume 1. We see more of Veight's past before he becoming an official demon army. And finally, a little of Master Gomoviora's past, back when she was human.
The writing is still as good as ever, even though this volume is a little bit erring on the heavy side compared tothe previous volume, but there is still a bit of comedy here and there, and it is always amusing to read Veight's thought.
I am glad the author love the unorthodox ways of doing things as I believe, if it not because of that, than the end of this volume might be entirely different.
