With his home now secure, Sean can take the time to start catching up on the million and one things he's been meaning to do, but never quite seemed to have the time. However, life is really never that simple. Sean's two armies, run by his friend Chad and his great uncle Maitland are coming across a few things hinting that the Vestibulum aren't ready to give up the fight quite yet.
The government and its minions are still not quite sure what to make of Sean or the lions he claims to represent. Divisions exist at the highest levels, and when the president decides to open a line of communications, those who are opposed to the idea are quick to act. The problem however is that while politics may make for strange bedfellows, when dealing with forces that aren't quite human, discretion is highly advised before jumping into bed.

And before you laugh at him, how well do you think you'd be holding in that six-pack of soda you drank to stay away all night when a very angry werewolf pushes the barrel of a rifle up under your chin? It's not like he even volunteered to be there! Why didn't they pick on that ass-kisser Chet? He even volunteered! It's just not fair ...
I'm new to the Harem / LitRPG thing (If I'd known more about LitRPG when I wrote Shadow, I might have incorporated more elements of that into it). I have a FT job, so I work on this when I can. Hopefully the next one will be even better. https://stryvant.blogspot.com/
This series is kind of winding down for me. The first 6 books were great. Since the author expanded out of Reno though, it has turned into something else and I feel it has lost a little bit of what I liked. In the first 6 books Shaun had to worry about having enough power, getting enough money, having enough allies. He also found new and powerful women to marry. The story was about him freeing the Lycans and trying not to fight a war. All that is great except that now Shaun has a lot of allies including: some magic users, dwarves, fae, and tons of lycans. Shaun also seems to have a lot of money. There is always a little bit of an issue with him having money on hand, but he has enough resources now that money is not an issue in the long run. He hasn't invented anything new in the last 4 books because of how powerful he is with just what he has already made. He also has not met any new and powerful women to add to his pride since book 5. And lastly, the whole idea of not fighting a war is out the window, since he is currently in a full blown war. I can see the author adding new things to try and keep my interest and I should clarify that I still like the series and by no means have I got to the point where I don't want to read any more. I am just not as enthusiastic about the next books as I had been when I first started the series.
Sean and beautiful wives, get a little time to themselves until all hell breaks lose. I like the snarky humor, action and love. This is one of my favorite series. Will Sean consolidate his control of North American lycans? I look forward to the next book.
This is a combination review of the entire 17+ book series as I binged the entire The Valens Legacy over the about a month.
The Positives: - The writing is really good. Often when I binge an author things like their crutch words become constant irritants that didn't happen here. - Stryvant doesn't mess around. The plot never really stops or meanders, each story having important events that carry the narrative forward. - There's two maybe three arcs in this series but each flow one into another smoothly so it all seams like a natural progression. - All the arcs are entertaining and engaging I always wanted to know what would happen next or figure out the mystery. - The Main character rides the line of being a Gary Stu never really crosses that line. - Functional magic system and cohesive world.
The Negatives: - The pervasive fetish portions. Even during serious portions Stryvant will often break my immersion with sexual talk or fetishes. - Repetitive sex and romance. It does get better later in the series, but since Stryvant's fetishes don't change over the course of the book neither do these scenes. I started skipping them, but he'd often stick important plot points in the middle of them. - The women characters tend to be on the bland side and over sexualized.
If you enjoy teenage wet dreams you'll probably like this. It reads like it was written by a boy going through puberty and just discovered RPGs. The protagonist is not just the MOST powerful lycan but also the scion to the biggest magical genius, who is only eclipsed by his son's innate ability to work magic better, faster, easier than anybody else. The bad guys lose because they're idiots, not because the protagonist has superior tactics or a better trained army. Need a girlfriend? Here, have 5 and a few extra in case you need to get shagged when they're unavailable. It's ok, they all like each other. Army/followers have a fatal weakness, here's a instant cure that also makes you stronger. Get into a massive battle outside of Reno with machine guns & high explosives? Not a problem because a spell of silence was cast stopping the mundanes from hearing it. Even if they did your (one of) Father-in-law is a high ranking police officer.
Just WAY too many gimmes. Yes, I read through 10. It was like reading a train wreck. I kept reading just to see what other preposterous "twist" would be added.
My only hope is that one day some network or video service with some backing for decent CGI (for the shifting and alt reality scenes) will pick this up for a series. It's well written and I think would blend well with that medium. As usual this book grabbed my attention and had me riveted all the way through. I'm eagerly waiting for the next chapter in the Valens legacy. As well as the Portals of Infinity series which is just as well written as this one.
I'd be "Lion" if I didn't tell you how much I enjoyed this book and this series! Jan continues to provide us with one exciting plot twist after another. I love this book and this series so much that I've read all 14 books in the series multiple times using Kindle Unlimited. And now, I've also bought each book in this series as I've re-read it this time! This series is so great that I want to have it to always keep and enjoy in my permanent digital library. Keep up the great work Jan! More, more, more!! :-)
Stryvant builds a lot of tension in this novel which is a major improvement over the last few. The President has decided to meet with Sean and enemies of free lycanthropes are arranging to assassinate him in such a way that lycanthropes will become public knowledge and America will hunt them down and exterminate them. That tension—watching the plan unfold—puts a lot of stress into the story because it’s by no means clear which outcome Stryvant is working toward. This book was a lot of fun.
The revolution is going international. These feels like an end of a story arc, like in book 6. Hope that this means that the next arc will involve more new magical races, allies, wife for sean and new kinds of story twist to the magic users. Here's also hoping we hear more of the side characters stories (Stewart, carl, mike from vestibulum and so on)
This novel in the Valens Saga was by far one of the best. It is so full of action and subterfuge it could have filled three books. Sean really gets his limits tested and is forced to risk his own life to reach the lions goals. And the idea of another war on the horizon for him to deal with while he still fights to finish.the first one only makes me want to read the next book all the more
Sean is hitting his stride. Now that he has met with the President, which way will the Lion-Were turn.? Will he settle in with his family or will he march into battle with the councils? Only time will tell as his wives get closer to their delivery dates and Sean has a few decisions to make.
The only thing better than a skilled author is a prolific skilled author. This story is yet another quality stryvant work. It builds on the plot from the earlier entries in a satisfying manner and moves briskly enough that it's hard to get bored with the series. Excellent. I'd give it a ten if I could.
I signed back up for kindle unlimited, only because the author came back to the program!
I'd love for Michael-Scott Earle, Blaise Corvin, and William D. Arand to be allowed back into the program. I think the kindle unlimited algorithms are flawed if they can't make room for these exceptional authors.
This book isn't any better than any of the others in the series. It seems more like a end of a chapter of the overall story than any meaningful part by itself. Important things happen, but they seemed to have already be set up in previous books.
I hope the next book is better I really like this series.
Another great entry in the series! The author is starting to wrap up the first major storyline and working on a slow intro to the next one. It's gonna be awesome!
Also excited that he's making a cast of characters webpage! It can be confusing with so many spread over so many books. I'll definitely need it hah!
This rating is really for the whole series! As stated before, my normal genre is military/space opera Sci-Fi. I admit to getting hooked on this series. It's kinda like steamy, descriptive Harlequin Sci-Fi for men.(fantasy sub genre). R rating for sure, not for children.
I really like this serie. I started it as an experiment to try something different and from that moment on it seems I cannot stop reading. I am used to read john conroe, drew hayes, jim butcher, benedict jacka, ben aaronovich. To me the stories of those writers are a significant part of my life. As of now the stories of Jan Stryvant are part of it too.
Jan Stryvant has show us again that he is a talented and skilled Author we go deeper into the this story and find out more about the characters I love this series and I'm guessing you will to I can't wait to buy the next book and get this book on Audible 12/10 stars a must too read ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆.....
Yaass. More workd powers getting involved. More history. More dick measuring contests. More scheming. Sublime 😌 (too much fucking but what else is new? Honestly, if you're gonna have them fuck like rabbits at least write proper sex scenes. Even how he greets his wives is worded practically the same every-single-time -_-)
Fast paced page turner with interesting characters that you instantly root for. Once I started reading the book I didn't want to put it down. I actually stayed up late to finish it. I highly recommend this series.
I am completely hooked on this series. The story and the telling are fantastic, I love the characters and their relationships. And the humour ain't bad either;-) . Keep up the good work
This was one of the best in the series so far. I am a little bothered that there are more fade to black scenes as the series progresses. Im not sure if Jan is worried about more KU bans or what.
As great as always, we can count on The Valens Legacy to be an awesome mix of magic, politics, fighting and planning... Great characters, awesome story, five stars all the way!
This book is exciting and the story continues to be fun and full of battles between magic users and shifters. The characters are well designed and the plots of each book are worth reading again and again.
Yet another great installment in a fantastic series. Got my spouse into this series with the audio books and we both enjoy listening to them on the road. Looking forward to book eleven.
Another exciting chapter. The story is beginning to gather momentum and is gripping and amusing to read, a real page turner, this is one of the few series that i will put another book down to read first. Kerp em coming!
This book was better than the last few. I enjoyed the growth of the characters and the advancement of the story. Cali is deadly with her weapons and fun to read about.
This novel brought together all the plot threads I've been waiting for. I'm happy to see the next phase of Sean's assent to power. Can't wait to see what's next.
Sean Valens is back! Continuing on in the tradition of all the Valens Legacy books, "It Ain't Easy" has lots of action, excitement, and lycans to go around. Plus, he kind of saves the free world.
