A corrupt King. A murdered Queen. A missing Princess… Found.
Once upon a time, The Royal Trials were a sacred ritual designed for a queen to select her king. But nothing is as it was in the kingdom of Tiech. Not since the brutal murder of beloved Queen Ophelia.
The town of Ironforge revealed important secrets, but it all came at an unbearable cost. The streets run red with the blood of innocents and Rybet's heart is heavy as she returns to Lakehaven.
Facing court and her mother's murderer will require more than just a brave face. She will need the skill, intellect and support of those who love her. Or what's left of them.
Torn between love and duty, Rybet faces decisions she never thought she would have to make.
This long lost princess will do whatever it takes to make it to the Golden Ball, even at the cost of her own happiness.
***HEIR is the third and final book of THE ROYAL TRIALS TRILOGY***
I was so freaking excited to dive into this damn book but that damn ending just disappointed me.
Heir was a pretty good book. Well, until the end. I am still mad that my twin freaking called things left and right before it was all revealed to my precious eyes. Yet, I was still in awe for most of this book. I thought it was interesting to add the mythological twist towards the end.. but now I'm even more intrigued in everyone's HEA. I really hope Tate does another book or maybe even a spin off series revolving around Sage? Ugh, I wish!
Other than all of that, I enjoyed the book to no end. The adventure, mystery, and magical aspects all drew me in. I just wanted everything to work out happily for all involved but of course there was some drama added for fun. After all of that, I got the more disappointing ending ever. It was just very anti-climactic for me and I honestly didn't know what to do with my life.
I'm a little sad but definitely look forward to my next book/series by Tate.
Unfortunately, the series were kept getting worse by every book. I wanted a reverse harem, that was not a bully romance. That it is. Great! It was also fantasy - that's ok too. But then there were gods and higher beings, and super powers and the reverse harem angle wasn't in the center anymore, the fantasy theme was. Like in book 2 (Seeker) I needed more steamy scenes and less drama. 1.5 star
In the Royal Trials a beautiful girl with exceptional powers from a special secret bloodline gets to keep the 3 fancy guys, vanquish her enemies and those bitches who shaded her, and become a beloved queen.
It’s ... ok.
The world building kept me going and there’s a certain charm to the author’s enthusiasm. This might have been better if I hadn’t had to spend the whole series in one character’s head, because the lead is a boring person who isn’t terribly observant, empathetic or smart. She never seemed to be in any real danger of everything not working out great for her.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Crazy that the trilogy takes place over only a matter of weeks but every day is a busy one filled with drama and deadly situations. At the end of the last book, all is revealed to Rybet about her birth and her birthright. Still though the biggest threat is the guys' father Titus and getting rid of him and reclaiming the throne is just another hurdle. Rybet is an amazing heroine, brazen and bold but also quick on her feet. She gives as good as she gets and the same goes when she loves, she loves hard and makes it hard not to love her. The guys come to the realization that having her and sharing her is better than not having her at all and I must say I'm glad they came to their senses. Only a few near death experiences to remind them what's important in life. Highly recommend this series if you're looking for a good (finished) RH series that's a bit different from all the rest.
2.5* In terms of the writing this was probably the best of the series, but it still wasn't great. Ry/Calla/Zafrina (had way too many names for one thing) was just not a very likable character to be honest. She just didn't have anything going for her. She just had the Queen thing handed to her and didn't really fight for anything, and she was definitely too stupid and shallow and selfish to be a good queen anyway, she just happened to have magic. Apart from that, I was so annoyed at the non-ending this had. I could tell early on the direction this was going with the Princes and I just didn't like it. I know the whole series takes place in 3 weeks, which is annoying in itself, but I still think she needed to choose someone. For a while there I thought she was going to choose Lee, because when they finally got together she described it as a missing piece falling into place and it was more romantic than anything she had with the other 2, and I thought she was realising the difference between love and lust, but no. She just decided she had 3 missing pieces and they ALL fit together. Maybe that ending would have seemed better for me if the Princes had had more depth and character development, I guess I was just team Lee the whole time, but Ty and Zan were literally just walking sex machines to her, there was nothing else between her and either of them except sex, and in this book especially they could have been the same person. It was also really unfair of her to expect them all to be ok with it, especially when Zan at least was very reluctant to do so, and when she was SO jealous if anyone else even looked at any of them. If she wouldn't be ok with it the other way why should she ask it of them? It was also super unrealistic that 3 brothers would be ok with sharing a lover with each other. By the end they were so chill and walking into the room with her in bed with another one of them and just having a chat, I just found the whole dynamic weird. Apart from that, the whole plot basically vanished in this book to make room for the 3 romances progressing. It was a pretty short book, so it was basically just her hopping from dick to dick and then becoming queen. To be fair, I went into this wanting a trashy, entertaining read, and that's what I got. I probably won't read her other work because a lot of reviews said this series was her best work so I don't want to know what constitutes something less good to be completely honest. It was engaging enough that I saw it though all three books, so I guess it wasn't entirely awful, just ridiculous.
Series review: Do you want a super predictable reverse harem/why choose version of The Selection series but with hunger games elements? The Royal Trials could be for you!
Imposter: ⭐️⭐️⭐️Predictable but compelling and I enjoyed the intrigue even if it was obvious where the twists would happen.
Seeker: ⭐️⭐️ Started to get a little slow and boring and the steam/tension wasn’t very well written. I also didn’t like that there was so much jealousy in a RH/WC book.
Heir: ⭐️ I got so BORED and the promise of “there is more going on than it appears” from book one never actually paid off.
Overall, it’s predictable and got boring, but it has a HEA and if you liked The Selection, you might enjoy it.
I’m sad this is over. All the books were quick so I feel like I could use more of the story. Overall, I enjoyed the book. There were a few parts that were slower for my taste but it didn’t hinder my love for the book.
I’m hoping to see more from this series/characters. Things were rapped up for our protagonist but I feel like there is still so much to discover within this world.
Also, I recommend reading the bundled book on kindle unlimited, there’s a bonus scene you won’t want to miss.
The writing style of this book is awesome. It feels like watching an HD movie playing in your mind. The writing was that detailed! I’m really going to miss these characters. Hopefully, the author will write another book set in this world. I was so sad after this series had ended. The story continuously ran in my mind even after finishing it. Very underwhelming. I hated the gods plot and hated the end. It all always came so easily to the MC, you never really worried for her, it was all always just handed to her, she never fought for anything, so nothing felt earned.
Vi auguro buona lettura e a presto!

Overall, I did like this series, but it was kind of a let down compared to The Complete Kit Davenport Series. I wasn't completely sold on the characters. Mainly Xan. I just really hate his ass. While the writing in each of the book was good, the endings relied too much on shock value and fake death scenes. Especially when this happens to the same character TWICE in one series. I just knew no one would truly be dead and it was annoying.
The best part of this particular book is the friendship that develops between Calla and Princess Sagan. I really liked their relationship, I also just really love Sage. She's a mean girl after my own heart.
Overall, I'm glad I read this series--it was fun. Will I think about it again after this? Debatable.
3-3.5 stars. Really I think I'm still a little in shock that the series wrapped up so quickly right there at the end. Not going to lie I was expecting this to drag on for quite some time and so when it ended I was like wait.. its really over? I was expecting something else to come right out of the wood work there at the end but though I do feel like the end was a little rushed, I also felt like this story wrapped up nicely and was even more pleased when I see that the series continues through others perspectives. I'll admit I wasn't ready to leave this world yet so I'm super excited to get to hang around longer!
The trials come to an end here in book 3 with Rybet coming out in the lead but after all the events of the last books its hard to know who to trust and where to find the allies needed to stage a coup against the evil king. Luckily her 3 men are on hand but will she be able to choose only one to join her on her throne? Will they make her choose?
I really loved that the truth abou the past really came out here at the end tying up all those loose ends and at the same time there is this mysterious grimoire that Rybet can't read... yet. Opening up a whole new avenue for her to come back in the continuation of the world. I really felt like Tate pulled out all the stops when it comes to character development here. There were so many characters I felt a deep connection with, which pleased me to no end. No one wants a story to end when all their friends are inside it that is the truth.
I can't wait to see where this world sends us next.. especially since ole girl seems to have the hots for the bounty hunter god guy...
I struggled alot with this series. This was one of my least favorite from Tate James. The whole 'overthrowing the king and taking my rightful crown' was resolved in a chapter? She literally just banished some gods back to their plane and tada everyone bowed down? It was a bit took anticlimactic.
if you like to read something like the selection the hunger games and red queen this book may be for you for me I didn't like the idea of this tree book in one book
FINISHED: (probably 3.5 stars) the ending wrapped up so quickly so that’s my biggest criticism, but it is very obvious that’s because Tate has a spin-off series in the works!! Pro tip: box set comes with a bonus scene and it is *worth it* — makes up for the quick ending!
It's incredibly unfortunate that I didn't enjoy this one as much as I hoped I would considering how much fun I found the first book. I had a few major gripes with the story that ultimately lead to the less than stellar rating: it's predictability was frustrating and Zarina and the Prince's descent into love-struck idiots over the course of the series was wholly disheartening. I feel like they all lost their personalities in favour of being defined by their love for each other, which is fine and unlikely to bother a lot of people but saddening for me as I found it the most boring aspect of the story.
Now that's not to say that I didn't initially love the relationships between her and the three princes. Zarina's lack of fear in calling out the prince's behaviour made for some of the best scenes of the series, but somewhere along the way all that excitement was replaced with relationship angst that I found myself agreeing with—re: how unfair it is for her to expect Zan to be ok with "sharing" when she says it would kill her for him to ask the same; something, I should add, that is never actually resolved beyond Zan deciding to just suck it up, meaning that Zarina never makes a single sacrifice despite everyone else in the story continually forced to.
For those reasons, I guess it's none too surprising that my favourite parts were those centred around Sage and uncovering her illicit past. I'm excited at the thought of her becoming the MC for the remainder of the series because she seems like a damn fun time and the heroes that have been introduced seem like a lot of fun.
I loved that even though Calla found out that she is the missing princess Zarina she doesn’t change to be someone different, she is still the same sassy person we met at the start. I love that the princes are still as in love with her as she is with them and how much they grew to accept that they are all one big happy family
I can’t wait to read about Sage in her series because I am sooo curious who she ends up with
I just can’t get past the books weird premise. Who would ever want to be romantically involved with three BROTHERS at the same time.... while all three knew she was equally involved with their BROTHERS.
I mean the writing wasn’t great, but it wasn’t horrible it was a decent amount of cringey but you live and learn. But I’m sooo sorry BROTHERS?! I mean I finished the series (more to boost my reading challenge 😪 I’m serious this year ya heard?) but I was never able to A) comprehend that they were all ok and knew and B) get past the whole brothers thing and C) get past the whole I am the chosen one, child of the gods bit that just seemed THROWN in.
Anyways 2.5 stars atp and another book finished so YAY 💃🏾💃🏾

Browsing through my Kindle, I realized I somehow left this little gem unread from the time I bought it at release. A thorough reread of Book 1 & 2 prepped me to dive in - and reminded me of all the reasons I love Tate James. This book takes the tumultuous events of the series and narrows them down to a pinpoint plot - one that offers a HEA, though it's obvious the players will have to work hard to get to a full respite.
Secrets are revealed, identities discovered, friendships firmed and romances - no matter how rocky - are solidified. It's an exciting addition to the series and perfect in its execution, mainly because it focuses on what's really important, glossing over the superfluous non-entities that have dominated the narrative. The King is important.... or is he? Is he, and his actions the true driving force of this story? If you are anything like me, you'll smile as the last page draws near, content that the spotlight went where is should, while hinting at future troubles too small to put on THIS page.
And Sage! Loved to hate her, and now I just love her. Read the Author's note at the end, it gives clues as to the next breakaway story in this world, with our favorite Princess and her flashing swords. Now THAT is a tale. can't wait to get my hands on!

My Final Verdict on Heir A satisfying end to a wonderful, though sometimes predictable, fantasy Reverse Harem. There were enough surprises to keep the reader on their toes and flipping through pages and enough heat to galvanize the scenes along. Fun and well done, with a door open for future adventures.
I was really curious how James would write herself and her characters out of the mess she left us with. But, the literal Cliffhanger from the last book was solved rather quickly, in an amazing and impressive way that truly made sense, and then the story rapidly raced towards the epic finale where all pieces of the puzzle came together.
In this book all three of the princes got their moment of glory, their moment to shine, but in the epic battle at the end, it was our lost heir that did all the hard work. I loved how our princess never really became a damsel in distress, even though she never shied away from asking help when she truly needed it either. I also loved how the princes each had their own talents and qualities and let everyone do what they were good at.
Just like the previous books from James there was also a really nice balance between the smutty scenes, the political scenes and the action scenes. Exciting moments, tender and intimate moments and clever plotting moments were mixed perfectly and this mix kept me on my toes as a reader. Not once during the story was I bored and I just wanted to read on and on and on until I reached the very end.
And maybe the thing I loved best in this story was the ending. It was not a classical "all is well and they lived happily ever after". The ending of the story was a promise. A promise that their happily ever after came a little more within reach. But they're not there yet. And therefore the ending was also another promise: A continuation is gonna come in 2020! I'm already really looking forward to it!
Even though I did not expect the gods to become a prominent part of the story, I enjoyed the twists and turns. I wish there had been more dealing with the last trial, since it happened within the span of one chapter and there wasn’t much that could be done in preparation for it. I did like that the guys were helping her plan for what would happen after the trial though, and even though we only got a little bit of the Princes’ POVs, I enjoyed them while they lasted. I would have liked to see more of Zarina’s magic, or learned more about how it worked since she was so powerful without much effort on her part. And why didn’t she have greater access to it before this point?
The schmexy scenes happened a bit too often for my taste, because maybe the author was trying to fit in multiple experiences between the three princes, which I get. But sometimes it just seemed unnecessary because I already understood that each of them wants her and she wants them just as much. (Cue the crazy lust-and-hormone-filled scenes).
I really liked seeing Zan’s development most of all; and I am so excited that this series continues from Sagen’s point of view!! She became one of my favorites, and I can’t wait to hear her story!
Thanks Tate James for making it through this great conclusion to the trilogy, and I will be anxiously awaiting the timeline’s continuation! I’m ready for Sagen and some new boys to steal the show!
The magic of the kingdom of Tiech has been dying since the brutal murder of their beloved Queen. But now her daughter, the lost Princess Zarina has a chance to restore the kingdom. Zarina is competing in the Royal Trials as Lady Callaluna, a long way from the street rat Rybet that she was just three weeks ago. Yes, in a few short weeks she has fallen in love with all three princes, survived being killed numerous times, and is building an army of allies to dethrone the false king. She has learned her true parentage, met several gods, and may have a new best friend. It's been quite a month!
It's no secret that I think Tate James is brilliant. Her stories are filled with wonderful characters, exciting escapades, intrigue, sexy times, and romance. I am always swept away by her adventures. This conclusion is no exception. The storyline plays out, all loose ends are addressed. There are unexpected guests and a few of the new faces open up a whole other set of issues/questions/stories. The trials conclude, the false king and his queen are addressed, Sagen comes into her own, Zarina and her princes all have their worth measured, and magic returns. Zarina and her princes are so good together. Each prince brings his own strengths to the relationship and each has a unique connection to their Queen. They don't exactly get a HEA but a happy for now (it has only been 3 weeks). It's clear that they are forever, however. It may seem like the ending is a bit abrupt but keep reading. It's all explained in the author's note. The story isn't quite over.
I kind of speed read this one since it had been a while since I was interested in the series and I didn't expect it to end well.
Surprisingly, it ended well! Actually a more believable ending than some of the fantasy/RH stories I have read lately.
The trials were brutal, in fact the whole story was a bit more brutal than I expected, but it worked. Strong ending, and then it was kind of a reality check to reach the end and see the note from the author reminding us that this series had taken place over 3 weeks.
WHAT! I called a foul then and labelled it too Insta-love then. Its easy to forget how quickly the characters get together when the release dates take a year.
Oh well, I enjoyed the premise, the men were yummy, the love scenes well done and I guess they will all have to figure out how to share nicely...
This felt like a nice read. Elements were mixed together in a story that I liked very much and felt kind of refreshing while still having classic things from genres that I enjoy a lot. The ending, however, felt rushed to me. I feel like there was so much potential in everything that was set up, but it feels like this should've taken another book or that this one should've been quite a bit longer in order for (this part of) the series to wrap up nicely. I like the sort of message the author ended with. I usually prefer the usual sort of ending connected to this type of book, but still find it cool/refreshing that she chose to not go that way. I just feel like I would've accepted that sort of ending more if the things leading up to it hadn't felt that rushed.
So so good, but definitely sad it’s the last book in this triology! This was an absolutely fantastic conclusion to an epic tale of magic and gods with a ridiculous amount of action and romance thrown in for good measure. The writing was phenomenal and I loved all the characters! Sage definitely grew on me in this book and I am friggin ecstatic that she is going to get her own story. This means we all get more in this world even if it isn’t focused on our magical leading lady and her handsome men! Highly recommend this series and this author!
I think this is a case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me’. It took me nearly three weeks to read this book & I kept picking up other books to read in between which obviously doesn’t help, I’m definitely a one book woman, but I just couldn’t get into this. The story was good, I’m happy with the ending & even like the idea of a spin-off with Sage, but I just didn’t feel any super excitement towards this story.
So don’t take my word for it, there are a lot of 4/5 star ratings & I think I just happened to be in a funk when reading this.
