Peyton
I was having a cold coffee with my best friend Vivian when the whole world went upside down.

Now there are gazelle-glowing-like-a-light-bulb aliens running around eating everybody, and enormous dark purply colored aliens that have a strong resemblance to bats, dive bombing from the sky.

One of the bats says I'm his and I need to ease his mating rage. Yeah, not happening.

Except, they tell me the fate of my world comes down to me sacrificing myself to him. Maybe this won't go like I planned. But I figure, if I have to bend to the big guy's will, I'm damn well getting something out of it.

Tahk
My Pythe is a human.

Weak as they are, I cannot fathom how she was chosen for me—the Commander of all Dahk.

But then she rises up for her species and I cannot help but notice her fierce heart. I will slaughter all who dare harm her and her species, and she will be mine.

***Warninig. For readers 18 years and older. Contains explicit sexual situations, possible triggers, dark themes, and violence. Start of a series featuring these characters and multiple others.

(Though this is far from perfect Its still bringing all of the vibes to the table. I enjoyed this just as much this time around even knowing what comes next.)

I bloody adored Pythen it ticked every one of my boxes and more. I have a thing for aliens that actually look and act like aliens and the Dahk, Extra-terrestrials that are almost bat-like in their overall appearance certainly fit that vibe. But what I very much enjoyed here was the humour. This truly was hilarious in places. On top of that the storyline managed to grab and retain my attention and this was really well done and I devoured every word.

This was love across the species romance combined with an alien invasion from another hostile race and it was amped almost from the beginning. I adored both Peyton and Tahk though did find her a tad unreasonable near the end when Tahk was really just doing his duty and following orders. Tahk I absolutely loved he had such strong and honourable ideals without losing one iota of his masculinity and he was also so bloody sexy.

So yeah for me this is one of the better alien romances and I am looking forward to the next in this series which is a continuation of this. This gets the full marks based on its vibes alone so If you like proper aliens and not ones that just look human then this is one for you.

“I wish only to be your ear when you need to release your fears and doubts.
Your hand when you need strengthening.
Your guard when you cannot hold on your own.
And your heart when you are too far gone to pull yourself free.
I will always be here, lovely. When you feel all is lost and you are alone,
I will be right here.”

- Tahk

I mean..who wouldn't fall for that? I am an incurable romantic like this...cheesy af...that's me 🙄.

Moving on.. this is a sci fi alien romance that starts like an invasion on Earth. Our girl Peyton escapes Seattle with her friend Vivian. On their way back to her ranch aliens attack but fortunately the good aliens come to rescue. The good aliens you say?well.. they are like huge bats , with wings and horns and supper muscly and sexy . One of this Batman, Tahk , the Commander of their fleets discovers in Peyton his mate. As usual a mating frenzy begins , but this one is a bit different from ones I ve read , meaning he needed to get chained to the wall because his frenzy sent him into a rage fit and to get back to normal our h is kinda forced by the circumstances to have sex with him...yeah she did it voluntary with the thought that he can save Earth. In the meantime they develop a relationship and she discovers that he is not a raging beast but quite a romantic and sweet man.

There are some political twists but the plot was engaging and the storyline easy to follow. I liked the secondary characters and I want to read their books too.

The h annoyed me several times. She is to impulsive and stubborn, I mean is a f**ing aliens invation and you worry to get you chickens and goat on board instead of maybe idk ..people???
She feel in love quite fast too , in the spam of like 2 days...but I am used to that because this is a alien romance, however I wanted her to be more focused and to actually listen a bit what her mate was telling her for her own good .
The story ends on a small cliffhanger .

This was awesome! For some reason, all the negative reviews showed up on my Kindle app, and I laughed so hard at them when I finished reading because they made it sound like this was some horrible rape fest, and it really wasn't. Yes, there was a veryyy interesting first sex scene, but yo, compared to some of the shit I've read in sci-fi, that ain't nothin'!
I don't know who those people were, but they obviously haven't read a lot of sci-fi romance. One person was like 'they should have looked more human,' and I was like BISH, NO. I like my aliens to look like freakin' aliens, thank you very much!

But back to the book. As I said, it was awesome. It was exciting as hell, and the craziest shit kept happening way out of the blue that I did not expect, which is super rare in this genre. I loved it! I also loved Peyton's dry wit, and I lolled more than a few times.

This ends of a masssssssive cliffhanger - it's basically just not finished, but the author chose to split it into two books - but it's also on KU, so that didn't bother me (like, ahem, some of those angry Amazon reviewers LOL)

All in all, it was fantastic, and I'll be starting #2 tonight!

I'm extremely torn on this book. On one hand, I'm not a fan of cliffhangers. Especially not ones that come out of the blue like this one did. And when I say "not a fan," I think you really, really need to understand that I'm NOT a fan.

I also thought the characters acted ridiculously. There was a lot of screaming. Like, A LOT of screaming. Usually in all caps. Which is a stylistic choice that grates after a while. Top that off with an unnecessary info dump on Peyton's backstory in the first few pages and I wasn't sure what I was going to think of this book.

Buuuuuut...I read the whole thing. I didn't love it, but I read it. And that says something. I found the characters irritating, but I wanted to see how things played out. Which is why the cliffie doesn't sit well with me.

What I am a fan if is alien romances. Tahk has the alien thing down. His people are just as douchebag-ish as humans (as in some are good, some seem like they're going to cause a pooh-storm of epic proportions the moment they have the chance), but they have wings and wicked fighting abilities.

I didn't love this book, but I'm planning on picking up book 2 because I want to know what happens.

Stop messing around

It could be the mood I'm in but the level of urgency in the book and the lack of action drove me nuts. Then throwing in a level of bureaucracy to not matching the make-up of the dahk made it so much worse. I'll try to read again in the future but as of right now, this is one of the worse books I've read.

I so wanted to get into the story but the level of stupidity of Peyton, Colt and Vivian and no improvement or development in the characters just was too hard to enjoy.

I really just did not like how the story unfolded, the characters or even the cliff hangar. I'm at a point that I don't care about what happens next.

Cliff-hangers really piss me off -_-

There was so much cringe! Lord knows I wanted to die from all the second hand embarrassment I felt.
I'm still not sure how I felt about our MCs, book two might help with that though *shrugs*

But yes! This could use editing and some serious proof reading *sigh* what else is new?

Trigger warning

The male lead rapes the female lead. That’s all there is to it. She is coerced and manipulated into having sex with him or they won’t save Earth.. because of some unbelievably illogical (especially ridiculous for an alleged advanced alien civilization) bureaucracy reasons. You can’t save earth from the invasion because you need permission from a leader? Are you serious? You’re letting millions of innocent beings die because you have to follow a law that would never exist in intelligent society? Does this author know anything about rape? You know, victims can still have orgasms. It doesn’t mean they liked it. In fact, many feel shame about it (which they shouldn’t). The author doesn’t address the heavy, real topic of the fact that the female lead was raped in a very confusing and traumatic way. Nope. Let’s skip right over that and just go with Stockholm syndrome. I’m sure that will be covered maturely, right? ....nope, it wasn’t covered at all because this author clearly doesn’t understand trauma and what it does to a person over time. I feel sick to my stomach and disgusted. Don’t read this if you don’t want to read about coerced or forced sex.

Short review:

After digesting initial unsetting thoughts on (see the trigger above), the story is picked up nicely in the middle. I thought that until instead of heading towards a certain predictable happy ending, the author decided to throw a twist and we have to read #2 to get the complete story of Peyton and Tahk. At this point, I don't care about the love story however I want to know what is happening on Earth with Vitat alien invasion and that is saying something because that's not why you pick up alien smut in the first place! anyhoo there is something to look forward to if I decide to pick up #2 one.

Maybe, if you like alien military stuff and okay with a cliffhanger.

Aftermath: (possible spoilers)
There is a certain charm to this book, I would not lie. I mean there are some LOL moments with initial communication attempts and Tahk team hearing Peyton's livestock incidents but apart from that, the book is dark what with an alien invasion and resultant death and destruction of the human species in general.

Secondary characters are also interesting and I want to know what happens to them so kudos to the author for creating added mystery with supporting crew.

There are several huge problems with this book. Most standing out one is nonexistent editing. Story switches between third person view to first person view on sentence to sentence basis. It is confusing and extremely irritating. Sometimes a sentence is glaringly missing and it also have a boatload of grammar mistakes. That all together makes it an annoying read. Then the storyline has its own load of problems. Character backgrounds are skipped over too quickly, like dumping a shitload of information on reader. Characters are not filled out, they remain flat through the whole story, forget about any possible character growth as well. However my biggest problem was love story. Human characters are traumatised, afraid, histeric and it is normal. That is how most humans would be in given situation. But the constant shouting, screeching is not normal. Then the main heroine is basically bullied into rape. Yeah, getting someone to agree on sex with viewers under the threat of annihilation of their whole species is still a rape. I don't care details on how it paid out,it was not consensual, so it is rape. MC was not aroused and she barely got through with it while also being dissed and insulted and attacked by the same people who bullied her into the mating. So it would be normal for her to be distressed, traumatised and hurt. What is not normal is for her to turn 180 and become addicted to her rapist and fall in love with him. Like in the next page. Because, well,he hugged her after rape. So it had only two possible outcomes for a reader-either disbelief at this love and lust or strong dislike for heroine.
Overall the idea had a really good potential, but author chose not to develop it instead rushing through it at breakneck speed only to end it on a cliffhanger. And not one that will entice the reader to pick up the next book because new problems presented themself. No,like like stopping in the middle of story without solving single problem already present.

Overall, not really a good alien romance. Very rushed, very unfinished and unpolished and absolutely idiotic MC .

This book is excellent, but took me some time to get into it, as I am a huge SFR fan but do not care for paranormal. This aliens physical differences were not realistic to me at first. As Peyton begins to accept Tahk, I do too. The action is fabulous. The hostile aliens are described incredibly well so is the terror that they bring to the humans on earth.
There are many pre-warnings with this book regarding triggers and dubious sexual consent. I did not feel it was any more non consensual than in some historical romances that contain arranged marriages. It certainly isn't forced by Tahk.
Pythen has a severe cliffhanger ending. I am really glad that I already had both this and its sequel in my TBR books before I started this story. I am now on to read, Home World, the second in this series and conclusion to the story of Tahk and Peyton.

This was okay.

I am intrigued enough to keep going with the series. Peyton was an enjoyable heroine. The beginning part of the book was the most entertaining and that is because it was more realistic.

Some parts were a little bit far fetched but for the most part, this is a pretty good sci fi series.

I found this book a little boring. I lost interest at the 60% mark, but forced myself to finish it. The heroine waffles in her thoughts about her relationship too much for my liking.

It’s just barely ok.

3.5 ⭐️’s But it was a downhill journey for me, from brilliant, to average.

So, while I did thoroughly enjoy this, it sadly did not live up to the potential found in its beginnings.

It started out, sooo well.
Intense action, exhilarating tension, beautiful pacing, good dialogue, and cheekily inappropriate humour, that was utterly brilliant in its subtlety and surprise.

Then, we devolved back into cliché SFR, and alien smut.

Our MMC goes from suspicion and derision, to obsessed fascination. It was too fast, too easy.
Our FMC takes longer, and we get to see some journey here, but it’s fairly shallow, with no real character interaction.

Sex scenes became predictable, and lacked sizzle way to quickly.
Basically, it was all too fast.

Further more, the pacing slows, the tension lessens, and the comedy all but disappears.
All the elements that had me charging forward initially.
Did I jinx myself? 🤨

There were a number of other issues throughout that also significantly lessened moments of my enjoyment.

Still outside of these, I did enjoy myself, and do want to continue.

Has a doozy of a cliffy, but done in the best possible, enticing way, and the series is complete.

I do recommend, but suggest lowering your expectations some, from what the beginning implies 🥺

Spoiler Alert 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

We start with unnatural earthquakes. The besties fiancé tells them they’re not natural over the phone, but then gets cut off.
At no time, do we ever find out what caused them. 🤨😠

There are several instances of patriarchal prejudice:
Comments concerning Men protecting and sacrificing.
Talk of male soldiers, nothing of women.
We meet only male soldiers, human or alien.
Aliens only have male warriors, and only refer to female fierceness in correlation to protecting young.
All the leaders, power individuals, commanders, etc., are…da dum…male.

Several alien species are mentioned in the back glossary, all warriors, leaders [Kings], commanders, of ALL species, are male. 😮‍💨 Really!

SHAME 🤬! SHAME 🤬! SHAME 🤬!

All the FC’s are complicit and accepting of this, physically weak, constantly crying 🙄, idiotic at times when emotional, to the point of TSTL 🥱

All this easily turned my rating from rounding up, to rounding down!

There was one comment in particular that left me 😲😱😲 and pissed at the FMC.

Humans were made out to be idiots, putting fear and prejudice above survival.
The believable responses were given to the aliens.

Aid had come, just as we did for the humans now, but we had not turned them away. We had been wary, but we had taken the opportunity to grow our technological abilities, our warfare,

Though we had not turned on our saviors so easily, we had prepared ourselves for all threats––including those from our allies.

Our leaders would in reality: use them to survive, amass, learn, steal all tech, then be ready to kick them to the curb.

No way would we turn them away, and instead plan to nuclear winter ourselves, and more than 70% of the remaining population!
This part was stupid, and clearly a plot device, to drive the story along its intended course.

A better motivation should have been found, or stronger reasons for fearing the aliens offering salvation.
At the very least, they should have wanted to question them!

I'll start this off by saying, romance is definitely not my genre. Something light and fluffy can occasionally brighten my day but honestly it's very infrequently that I read something like that. So you're probably asking yourself, why on earth would you then choose to read an ALIEN WAR ROMANCE? The answer is actually quite simple. Book club. The book club that I run works in groups, of the four of us we decide on a particular genre/grouping of books we want to do. Our last group was mystery/thriller and unfortunately this group was erotica/romance. Thus begins my next four months of reading romance novels and shuddering at the cringe-worthy descriptions.

The overall story of this book was actually quite well done. I found that even when I was floored by some of peculiar wording, "Minimal, hah! Tahk shoved his giant eggplant inside me." (pg. 121) I genuinely had a good time reading it. I was engaged enough through the entirety of this book to seriously consider reading the second one just to see what happens to everyone. I mean come on, "Boinking" aliens was hilarious but now I'm  kind of invested.

A large critique I do have regarding the writing is that grammatically it was abysmal. At first I thought it would be fun to kind of see how many mistakes I found but after getting a few chapters in I realized it was a wasted effort as I could finish the book in a couple hours and yet would spend that long just logging where I found errors instead of actually reading.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

3.5 rounding up. Engaging enough I wanted to finish, but also a little slow at times for me. There was all the action of the invasion, plus being his mate and then figuring out that Insta love attraction. He was so sweet to her. Cliff hanger, but not sure when I’ll pick it up.

I actually saw book #2 an Amazon similar. The title, Home World appealed to me because I put two and two together that in book #2 we get the see the planet that the aliens come from. There are a ton of alien invasion books and movies, but I’m more intrigued by the stories that actually show their home world like this series.
That being said, I downloaded a sample from book#1 & I couldn’t put it down. Alien invasion is a common theme, but this book is fast paced with an engaging plot. Basically, Earth has been found for the taking. A vile white-colored alien race of light has invaded earth for their sun and they're eating people like kibbles and bits. A 2nd bat-like alien race of darkness has come to their aid.
The king of the bat-like race, the Dahk that came to aid Earth has a secret agenda for helping them. Tahk is the commander of the Dahk. When he arrives, he saves the heroine, Peyton, and her friends from getting devoured.

After rescuing them, Tahk takes them to his ship, and then something very rare among their species occurs. Fate chooses Peyton as Tahk’s mate—that hadn’t happened in their race for hundreds of years.

The Dahk have a very different way of consummating vows for mated couples. The ceremony is—performed—bumping & grinding, in front of a crowd & it definitely rocks the boat in this book.
For a male, upon the initial mating & until they've consummated for the 1st time, the men are driven into a rage. It’s said that after penetration it sates their rage—keeping their lust at bay. The conflict—some woman of their race have died from the mating ceremony. Talk about 1st times of horror.
So basically, in order to subdue Tahk’s rage, so that he can return to his right state of mind, Peyton has to take one for the team. That made an intense 1st time.

In general, I wouldn’t think a bat-like creature would be attractive. But the way the author describes them makes them very appealing & the cover model is definitely good-looking.
I love the concept that the light alien race are evil & the dark are good. This novel has the right amount of action & suspense. I enjoyed the romance developing between Peyton & Tahk.

I pretty much loved everything about this book. Although, were was a time that I thought the intimacy was a little misplaced. I guess Peyton being injured doesn’t stop those two from going at it. Lol.
I did like the flow & writing style, but there were a few times that I got hung up on the authors word phrasing. Other than that, the writing was good.
I can’t wait to get my hands on book #2. This series is very addicting. Unless the author goes by another pen name this seems to be her 1st novel. This being her debut book is impressive.

Meh.

At the start of the book I was loving the slow intro to the world and our characters. So many of these books start off with the instant alien abduction, or even our characters already in the ship. So it was a nice change... until it kept dragging on. I was feeling more than a little antsy by the time we actually first saw the first aliens, and even then there was a good little bit where they were still road tripping it.

The secondary characters were annoying at best, and only served to add useless fluff dialog and situations. And I firmly believe the addition of Colt was completely needless and annoying. He's just an old man who runs off and does/say old man shit and acts like he could kick everyones ass. Just endless posturing that adds zero to the plot. The majority of their interactions with him are having to hold him back to protect him, them explaining that they are trying to protect him and him arguing that he knows best, only to ultimately settle and gain nothing from the altercation. and this happen MULTIPLE TIMES.

Also, the hero r*pes the heroine. Like straight up. She is given a fake choice: either have sex with this alien who has literally been driven raving mad by the 'mating lust', or your entire planet will be slaughtered by the enemy alien species.

no thanks.

Good

I liked this book. Aliens attack earth and another set show up to defend us. This is a welcome change from the aliens harvesting earth for females. Our governments response was completely plausible to me. Humans are short sighted and fear the unknown. One thing that got on my nerves though was how much Vivian and Peyton cried and screamed. Almost every chapter they were freaking out and crying. Now I won't say my response would be any better but it gets old reading it over and over. Peyton wasn't completely useless at least she tried to defend herself and did it with moderate success.

There are too many grammar and word choice problems throughout for me to be able to continue with this initially promising story. I'm not talking about intentional mis-spellings that are meant to indicate alien language/speech, I'm talking about things like spelling Mohawk (a hair style named after a Native tribe) as "mow hawk", writing blood pooled as "blood pulled", and far too many other examples for me to enumerate them all. Spell checker and auto correct (or as I call it, auto corrupt) are NOT substitutes for knowing what words actually mean and how they should be used in a sentence. PLEASE get a real proof-reader and or editor.

Pity, it had much potential. Maybe someone who finished 8 grades could edit it and make it readable.
