هذا الكتاب هو مبهج من اللحظة الأولى التى تبدأ فيها قراءته، هو رحلة فى كل شئ تقريباً وعن كل شئ وفى نفس الوقت لن يصيبك بالملل فى الحديث المطول عن موضوع واحد بالإضافة الى بعض الحقائق الغريبة والمبهجة والمضحكة احياناً، كأنك تقرر ان تعرف الكثير فتبدأ بقراءة هذا الكتاب.

كل كتاب يحمل جزء ولاشك من نظرة صاحبه وماتعلمه حول شعوب أخرى دون أن يكلف نفسه عناء الاستكشاف لمعرفة الحقائق.
كل ماورد عن الشعوب والدول التي لاينتمي لها الكاتبين لم أكلف عناء نفسي إكماله فهناك نقاط غير صحيحة وأخرى مبالغ فيها والبعض ساخر وفيه روائح العنصرية
التوجه السياسي وأفكار أخرى لم أقبلها
عدا ذاك فالكتاب لا بأس به وشكراً لمن أهدتني إياه..

Saying I read this book is misleading. It was my husband's Kindle purchase that he shared with me. I read the sections that interested me, and skimmed through the rest (ie: the parts about Chicago). It was interesting enough -- similar to a long article on Facebook -- and I'm glad I didn't spend either my own money nor more than one evening on it.

I liked this book. It is easy to read filled with wondrous bits of useless information and well researched and footnoted. There is a Chicago- centric bend to it but its from a Chicago Tribune writer.

I definitely learned from it.

More than you expect!

We lived in the Chicago area for a few years and took the Tribune. I loved this feature and was so happy to see it in book form. There was a lot here that I had not seen before. Expect everything from laughs to tears in this great read. ENJOY!

This is a book for trivia fans, of which i am one. But even for an avid fan of useless information, this book is just too much. It's list after list of things in all areas of interest from sport to science. Since it's a product of the Chicago Tribune newspaper, much of the trivia revolves around that city. I began this book eagerly gobbling up the factoids, but after the first 20 or so lists, i found myself scanning them or only reading particular lists that held special interest to me. Too much of a good thing.

It is amazing what you can get done on a snow day. This book was free at the time on my kindle and caught my interest. You see my husband always knows useless information and I thought this would give me a one up on him. In a few ways it will but most of all it helped in increasing my tweets. Oh, I did get a few facts that will help me impress my students. Not to mention that I learned a ton of things that I didn't know...

I'm the type of person to Google "Cool things about ___" The blank being any random thought that comes into my head. Cool things about Arkansas, cool things about Geckos, cool things about Apples. And this book... Well, it won't stop me from looking random stuff up, bit it definitely taught me some stuff that I totally needed to know. Like, totally. Everybody needs to know that according to the US Supreme Court, tomatoes are vegetables. Yeah.
This was a fun read, and the book is littered with bits of Post-It Notes so that I can keep track of my favorite facts. If you are a fan of trivia,and just expanding your knowledge, no matter how ridiculous that knowledge is, then I totally recommend this. (Just keep 100 Post-Its on hand to keep track of the interesting ones.)

Oh man, I love a good bunch of random facts and this does not disappoint.
Favorite categories include:
* Sweaters
* Athiests
* Insults
* Toys

A few memorable facts:
* A "grawlix" is a cluster of typographical symbols that substitutes for profanity. As any #$@%* should know.
* The British have a slang word for aimless internet searching (especially at work): wilfing
* Play-doh was invented as wallpaper cleaner.

Good stuff, people. Read this and then drop some interesting facts on your friends or coworkers at your next social event.

Loved this book! Originally I thought it would just be a collection of basic trivia, but it was so much more. It covers all sorts of topics, and was so interesting that I couldn't put it down. For trivia buffs, sports buffs, anyone interested in furthering their knowledge. A great book to have around.

So interesting

I used this book to help my children learn so many things, and then use those things to learn even more. I love trivia knowledge, and my knowledge of facts is pretty amazing. This book added to it tenfold. The only complaint I had was a lot of it being Chicago based

Lots of research, not much fun

When I ordered this book, I expected it to tell me fun facts about a fire engine or a kitchen faucet. I love useless information and thought this would be a font of that. Instead, it is too highbrow and esoteric. The authors provide a great deal of research to back what rhey have written but, frankly, I don't care.

This is a fun book with many insights. As you may guess, since it is published by the Chicago Tribune, and written by members of its staff, it is Chicago-centric. No big deal though, since Chicago is a great town with lots of history. You should know more about Chicago as a Citizen of the US. Enjoy this fun read, and is is also a quick read...

Nicely Structured

In full disclosure; I didn’t read the entire book. I just kind of went through the first few chapters and I found it amusing enough, but there was a time when I was younger, around 11 or so, I would have read this entire book and memorized about 80% of it, but I’m just too old now and these kinds of things don’t interest me as much as they once did ( ? )

Fun. I had to keep reminding myself that this was written intentionally with a Chicago/Illinois slant, because Illinois just kept hitting just about every list.

There are lots of interesting facts in this book, and it's written in a clever way. I could only read a few lists at a time, though; there's so much packed into it. Looking forward to knowing a few more answers in my trivia league next season 🙂

This collection of fascinating historical scientific etc failed to mention that nearly every fact and interesting bit of trivia revolves around the USA. Which, for the rest of us, leaves us none the wiser. 10 Things about nowhere near everything.

It was too much of the same thing. Definitely a format for a weekly newspaper column and not a book. Also, the author used the term Paralympics when he meant Special Olympics and that made me doubt the rest of his fun facts.
