Much more practical for me than its longer counterpart (the more complete Cooking For Two), this book has a bunch of recipes that have now gone into my regular rotation. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, the ingredients are typically ones that are available locally for me (in the Eastern part of North America) and not ridiculously expensive. The first few times making each dish does take longer than 30 minutes, but I've found that with practice it does end up taking about half an hour or so.

: “…Whether you’re single, a newlywed, an empty-nester, or just plain tired of giant portions and days of leftovers, this cookbook is for you.” Great start to the book.

My family has downsized and I’m looking for healthy meals. This cook book is a win win for me on both accounts. I wanted to learn how to cook where I didn’t have lots of leftovers. This book has healthy options that can be made in 30 minutes or less. The author includes 110 recipes with most recipes having 8 ingredients or less. She includes one beautiful picture per recipe chapter.

The author starts out explaining how to shop for two, staples to keep in your pantry, cooking equipment needed and if you are single she talks about how to treat leaf overs. I found it helpful. I like that these are simple tasty meals I can eat every day. I liked that there is a handy recipe index at the end of the book too.

The recipes start off with the breakfast section that includes smoothies, granola, muffins, pancakes, hash browns, omelets and breakfast bowl.

Soups, Salads, and Sandwiches - 6 different salads with different dressing options, two sandwiches and 5 soup options from Thai Curry Noodle soup, to Southwestern Turkey Chili.

Vegetable main dishes, Carrot and Leek Fritters with Dill Dipping Sauce, to Veggie Bowls, to Parmesan Spinach Gnocchi, to veggie burgers. 16 options.

Poultry recipes – 16 options from Wraps, Rice Bowls, One-Skillet Creamy Lemon Chicken to Garlic Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Tenders.

Seafood section with 16 recipes – Crab Cakes with Mango Salsa, Rice bowls, Shrimp, Salmon and Grilled Sesame-Crusted Tuna Steaks.

Meat section – Beef Tostadas, Pork fried rice, Stir-fry, Fajitas, Stroganoff, Shepherd’s pie and Grilled steak.

Desserts: Shakes, Grilled Peaches, Peanut Butter- Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, Mousse, Cookies, Shortbread, Molten Chocolate Lava Cakes.

My family and I enjoyed these recipes – I took some of her suggestions in modifying the meal to suite my family’s likes. It worked well. We ate Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Pasta, Fish Taco, Rice Bowl, Shrimp Tacos and White Chocolate-Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

I still want to try: Salted Caramel-Chocolate Chip Cookies, Peanut Butter-Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, Carmel-Stuffed Brownie Bites, One-Pan Honey-Ginger Salmon and Vegetables, Lemon-Butter Salmon and Orzo, One-Pot Chicken Broccoli Alfredo Pasta. Turkey Parmesan Meatballs with Creamy Tomato Sauce, One-Skillet Creamy Lemon Chicken, Southwestern Turkey Chili, Orange-Almond French Toast, Caramelized Banana Pancakes, Sweet Potato & Bacon Hash

This cookbook is easy to use. I liked how at a glance I could go through recipes and see what I’d like to make and how much time I had to make it. She lists on the recipe the words super quick, less than 30 minutes, vegetarian, vegan, has 5 ingredients meals ones that use one pot etc. I liked her suggests, tips and swaps to make the recipe fit your eating plan. She also lists nutritional break down for each recipe. Per serving.

The instructions are clear, simple. I liked how she highlighted for example number one Prepare – number two Cook the Chicken, then goes into more detail. In a sentence or two explaining what to do. Three ADD remaining ingredients, four ADD cheese. Etc. But at a glance you can see what’s involved so you can plan ahead.

The author runs a blog titled Greens and Chocolate www.greensnchocolate.com

110 recipes for those cooking for mostly two, sometimes three, people. Each recipe has no more than EIGHT ingredients! (Olive oil, salt and peeper are extra.) The author/creator states that she has "strived to create recipes that use fresh ingredients as much as possible". IMPORTANT to note here that in some recipes broth, canned marinara etc. is used. For the Crescent Roll Cinnamon Rolls it calls for a can of Crescent rolls. I should say though that this is more of a rarity and is certainly not in every recipe. If you are not into white flour, rice, powdered sugar etc. it is relatively easy to substitute these items for healthier ones of your choice. Once again, the above are not in every recipe.

Look for the special labels featured above some of the recipes:
5-ingredient * One-Pot * Super Quick * Vegetarian * Vegan

There are SEVEN recipe sections:
Breakfast * Soups, Salads and Sandwiches * Vegetable Mains * Poultry * Seafood * Meat * Dessert

At the beginning of each chapter/section the recipes included in that section are listed with the page numbers. Each recipe provides nutritional information: calories, protein, carbs etc.

There are definitely some different recipes in this book that I have not seen elsewhere along with great variety. How about trying Grilled Romaine with Buttermilk Dressing? If you are one of those, like us, who love Brussels sprouts, try the Brown Butter Brussels Sprouts Spaghetti on Page 63. You will even find some salmon sushi in this book! Make sure you check our the Italian Chicken and Green Bean Skillet. How about some Honey Ginger Salmon? Pistachio-Crusted Halibut? Like oriental food? Cook some Pork Fried Rice and/or Teriyaki Beef Stir-Fry.

IMPORTANT to note that many of the recipes do contain cheese and a wide variety at that. There are NO individual pics of the completed recipes but the list of ingredients, cooking instructions are all VERY clear and easy to follow. Handy Measurement and Conversion Tables are at the end plus an alphabetical recipe index. This is followed by an index for the main ingredient. For example if you are looking for recipes containing apples, these are all together. Looking for salmon recipes? Head to 'S' and the salmon section where you will find what you are looking for. Like a recipe in here but need to cook for more mouths? Just double or triple it as needed.

I was provided an advanced copy of this recipe book by the publisher. That has not influenced my review. The thoughts and opinions above are totally mine. Thanks, Liz

I enjoy cooking, but sometimes it feels like I have made the same meals so many times, that I need to shake up my routine. Which to me means it is time for a new cookbook and 30-Minute Cooking For Two was just what the 'Kitchen Doctor' ordered. Sections cover Breakfast, Soups, Salads, and Sandwiches, Vegetable Mains, Poultry, Seafood, Meat, and Dessert.
As the author points out, many recipes cater to cooking for more than 2 people. Though it isn't hard to halve or quarter a recipes stated ingredients, it is nice to have a book that caters to a smaller household. Shopping suggestions, pantry staples, cooking equipment, and minimizing waste are covered before the author delves into the recipes. Pictures are limited, but the ones shown for Grilled Cilantro-Lime Chicken, Bacon, Brie, and Raspberry Jam Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, and Whipped Ricotta with Grilled Peaches grabbed my attention and I made these first.
Each recipe states(for example)One Pot,5-Ingredient, Vegetarian, or Super Quick. Preparation and Cook Times are given as well as Nutritional Information. There are also Tip & Swap ideas like using apricot jam or pear slices instead of raspberry jam in the Bacon, Brie, and Raspberry Jam Sandwiches, which provides more options(especially if you don't like an ingredient but aren't sure of a substitution. Lots of good ideas and as it says on the cover, “Healthy Dishes Without All the Fuss”. After shopping, nothing takes longer than 30 minutes to prep and cook and that's a real win for anyone with a hectic schedule.
My partner and I enjoyed the recipes I've tried and he was surprised when I called him to the table to eat after only 30 minutes. I usually spend about an hour(minimum) with my current recipes, so having quick and tasty options really appeals to me. I am looking forward to working my way through this cookbook.
I received an ARC from Rockridge Press through Callisto Publisher's Club.

Suzanne and I remember the days when we were newlywed. She could cook up anything she wanted to without having to worry about picky eaters. We passed those years a long time ago and are now back to being almost empty nesters.

That is where cookbooks like 30-Minute Cooking for Two: Healthy Dishes Without All the Fuss by Taylor Ellingson will now come in handy. Suzanne can whip up small batches of food quickly and easily with no fuss or muss.

The recipes in this book are quick and easy to prepare. Most of the recipes use only eight ingredients or less. There are easy to find ingredients that should be available in your local store.

Whether you are a newlywed couple, or empty nesters, you will find 30-Minute Cooking for Two to be loaded with lots of great ideas. This will make a great gift for the cooks on your list.

Soo... I did not read this entire cookbook, but I read through a few of the recipes - ones that I fully intend on making and really enjoyed what I saw.

This book is designed with for couples that are busy. So much food now is sold in bulk or family size that so much of it goes bad in our home and we feel bad about the waste, but to buy things for just the two of us actually ends up being more expensive than buying the family size and not eating it all...

The is a full Intro as well as a chapter about "Why Two Can be Tricky" which were really informative and had a lot of great information about what staples you should be keeping around and how to store leftovers.

Once you get into the recipes they are SO easy to follow. Each is only a page long and includes an about blurb, the prep/cook times, your ingredients, the instructions AND some notations. These notations are EVERYTHING, they include One Pot, Super Quick, 5-Ingredient, Vegetarian etc. These make picking out what you need even easier. If you don't want too many dishes, pick a One Pot meal, if you don't have a lot pick a 5-Ingredient meal, on a timeline - Super Quick is where it is at.

This cook book is super easy to use and it has some delicious sound recipes, its only downfall is that there aren't really any images but that could be a blessing in disguise because you are getting more recipes and if yours doesn't look like the picture that can be a bummer - so it solves that problem too.

I get flustered easily when it comes to complicated recipes or more than a dozen ingredients. Thankfully this book is blessedly short on both and it also does a great job on offering options that aren't catered to feeding an army. I hate having to do the math on halving a recipe and I almost always find a way to screw up a recipe when I try to alter it. This book not only has simply tasty options, it has a great section on why cooking for two can be tricky as well as tips for stocking your kitchen with staples. Each recipe also has a brief intro from the author about it's provenance, little tips to enhance it, or what to serve it with. As a vegetarian I was also pleased to see quite a number of veggie options included. My only "beef" with this cookbook (see what I did there) was that it didn't have a picture for every recipe. I always look to pictures to see how well my attempt turned out, but not every recipe has a corresponding picture (I guess I'll live). Some winning recipes include: french toast muffins, black bean and goat cheese tacos, brown butter brussel sprouts spaghetti, cauliflower chickpea curry, and confetti cake shortbread. A wonderful addition to any kitchen.

First of all, the author and editor needs to proofread and fix the many errors in this cookbook. The errors might be easy to miss or ignore if you are just opening the book to one recipe here and there, but they add up and become glaringly obvious when reading the cookbook from cover to cover.

This cookbook offers some good weekday recipe ideas that are quick and easy to make. I wouldn’t necessarily classify them as healthy, but most of them are fine for the average person. I suggest adding a lot more vegetables and a bigger variety of vegetables to your diet than this cookbook suggests.
I tried a handful of the recipes that spoke to me and enjoyed them for the most part, but I would say that several of the meals are very similar flavor profiles and get a bit repetitive or boring, so perhaps pick a few to add to your weekly menus but don’t bother with the whole cookbook.

I am very glad I borrowed this cookbook from the library, otherwise I would be disappointed to have spent money on it. It’s not worth buying in my opinion.

Simple and delicious recipes that are easy to follow and quick to make. The cookbook offers a variety of recipes. Most recipes require 8 ingredients or less. Seven categories are offered (Breakfast; Soups,Salads, & Sandwiches; Vegetable Mains; Poultry; Seafood; Meat; and Desserts). I extremely liked the recipe index for each category. Tips and Swaps are included for most recipes. The format is nicely lay out and a good size book.

I love how simple and easy this cookbook is. Plus, the recipes were easy to convert to gluten and dairy-free (for me, anyway). While I've only had a chance to try out a couple of the recipes in this book thus far, I am looking forward to making more.

This is a must-have cookbook for anyone that needs to feed two and is struggling with figuring out those smaller portions.

I received this book free from the publisher, and this is an honest and unbiased review.

As an empty nester, cooking for two again is hard but 30-Minute Cooking for Two is a great cookbook to get started. The recipes are easy, leave no leftovers, and are interesting. There we multiple recipes that my husband was excited about trying. There are recipes for every meal including smoothies, desserts, soups, sandwiches, meat, poultry, vegetables, and seafood.

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

There are some really tasty, healthy recipes in here. However, they’re not necessarily low calorie - which is what I am looking for when I search for “healthy” recipes. Dinners over 700 calories are NOT healthy for someone of my size. That’s half of my daily caloric intake in one meal. So, 3 stars because there are some tasty, easy to make dishes in this collection, but I would NOT consider these “healthy” as the title states. Seems somewhat misleading.

Hurrah!

I absolutely love not having to trim down a recipe! If I cook a moral recipe, the temptation to overeat is right there. Though the calories are a little higher than is optimal, the deserving size is a plus.

Not worth it!

Will not be trying any recipes; way too many calories and carbohydrates besides other things. Not as healthy as claims to be!!

Perfect for one, two, or even more if you double the recipes!

Definitely my go-to cookbook going forward because the ingredients truly ARE simple! The recipes are thoughtful and already I want to make SO MANY of them!!!

My review here is more about what I ended making from this cookbook so far, because I love re-creating recipes to make sure a cookbook really delivers and earns my trust so…here we go!

The recipe I chose to make: Creamy Salsa Verde Chicken Enchilada Skillet.

Since I’m totally obsessed with Mexican food and live in California where Mexican food RULES, I went straight for trying this recipe.

Side note: I feel that the recipes throughout this cookbook are really open for if there is ever a need to improvise, without ruining the recipe. Like, for instance, on this particular recipe we added one extra chicken breast to make the recipe a larger portion.

We also used more of the green salsa in the sauce sauce and ended up rolling the enchiladas (dry-yes, it’s okay!!!), then poured the sauce and cheese on after, baking them in the end. (I mean, it was Friday night and all, lol).

This recipe was a major YES YES YES HIT!!!! The ingredients are what make this dish really stand out to be INCREDIBLE (I'm hugging this author right now!)

Husband and I even declared, WE DID IT! WE FINALLY MASTERED ENCHILADAS!!! We agreed that we may never go back to take-out ....ever again!!!! (This is the absolute honest TRUTH!)

I have bookmarks all throughout this cookbook because it truly is my favorite one yet!

Consider this to be not just a great gift for yourself, but even for a young adult who might be going off to college, or even for a new couple just starting out...seriously, I highly recommend 30-Minute Cooking for Two: Healthy Dishes Without All the Fuss!

***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

Well done!
