Eat, Live, Thrive Diet: A Lifestyle Plan to Rev Up Your Midlife Metabolism

Rate this book
A sustainable lifestyle diet for women of faith that unravels the mystery of why we gain weight as we age and includes a practical, God-centered, science-based plan to change your habits from the inside out—from two veteran health and lifestyle coaches   Eat, Live, Thrive Diet shows women how they can not only lose excess body fat permanently—before, during, and after menopause—but also improve their overall health in critical areas such as brain function, resistance to disease, slowing down external aging, and increasing energy.   This highly effective plan that addresses body, soul, and spirit is presented in a compassionate voice by two experienced health coaches who share personal experiences of battling weight and emotional eating issues and how they came to celebrate lasting victory.   Whereas most diets are short-lived or require substantial upkeep to maintain, Eat, Live, Thrive Diet is a cyclic and easy to follow eating plan that women can embrace indefinitely. The first phase of the plan helps women discover their carbohydrate thresholds and the specific foods holding them back from weight loss. The lifestyle phase of the plan is easily customizable to promote ongoing weight loss or maintenance. The diet is not Paleo, Keto, or low carbohydrate but rather “carbohydrate controlled” based on each woman’s personal response. The authors also emphasize the importance of getting to the root cause of unhealthy eating habits and the value of short-term intermittent fasting--a simple lifestyle change that makes it easier and more effective for many mature women to reach their health and weight loss goals. They also offer virtual coaching support through their Eat Live Thrive Academy.

I really love this book, any book that can make me feel the way this one does is an A+ in my book.
The book explains scientifically why middle age women gain weight as they age and includes a plan to help you lose pounds and inches as you bring back vitality, energy and health.
There are three phases to this plan, I don't say diet because as we all know diets don't work. It has to become a habit, a healthy eating and exercising lifestyle .
These three phases take you through what drinks will keep you from bloating, intermittent fasting, what foods to leave out and gradually add back in during the three phases.
I know it hasn't been a long time since I started implementing the things I've read in this book, only three days so far but my goodness I have more energy. And I am doing this without coffee or added caffeine supplements. Wonderful recipes added for you to reference during the three phases. You can also print out worksheets tracking your food consumption and how it makes you feel.
I highly recommend this book to all women and I will be rereading this for reference many times.
Release Date March 26, 2019. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.

Not my favorite. First, the title. The first word is "Eat". Then the author starts the book talking about intermittent fasting. Then after that, she goes in to different phases on what NOT to eat and the list is long, but apparently potato chips are a green light. For a book that has the word EAT first and foremost in the title, I didn't really see that.

I'm not opposed to the message. I practice intermittent fasting, but I found that bit about the title irritating. I also found the audio even more irritating. The author kept repeating how great the plan was and how great she was. If I have to be told, and I don't see it, that's when I start rolling my eyes.
The message I got was, "Look how wonderful this plan is. Look how wonderful I am. This plan is good for you. I am good for you." So two stars.

Everyone with any success behind their efforts to improve their health knows that you must gain the cooperation of your heart and soul to make lasting change! These authors understand that and all the hurdles one faces when trying to improve their waist line and the number on the scale. The single most important tool is that of harnessing the power of God to help get to the goal and hold on to the victory of change everlasting! Dedicating a part of this book to that is admirable and noticeable. Anyone who really comes to grip with wanting true change is not just talking about on the outside. If they are only worried about a quick fix on the outside that would be so sad as they would miss out on gaining real freedom and true beauty inside and out!

Danna and Robyn have written a powerful, interconnected book full of guidelines and support based on the latest research including, while reaching beyond, sound nutrition. I am nearly 66, and among so many women who have struggled with self-imposed and societal pressures to become, and stay, fit and trim. Intellectually I know the health benefits of keeping excess weight off - easier said than done. Over the years I have learned about - and experimented/yo-yo'd with, scores of approaches to weight loss. Fat Flush, The Zone, Weight Watchers, Atkins - all of which have good aspects but here I am still battling - and being distracted by 20#s of confidence-busting weight. I have studied hormonal changes (think the amazing Dr. Christiane Northrup). I understand and know the power of my thoughts relative to what I manifest (think Abraham, Mike Dooley, Deepak Chopra) - I am not a church-going Christian but consider myself spiritual. I have been a moderate exerciser all my adult life (while I have a home gym, I've never run a marathon!), and have concentrated my efforts through the years on learning about, and taking, high quality supplements. Finally, EATLIVETHRIVE (ELT) pulls everything I have learned and sought to practice together into a "sum of the parts" that makes rational, emotional and spiritual sense. Apart from the holistic aspects, the difference for me is the flexibility practiced by the authors and embedded in the plan. So many other "diets" are so rigid that if you don't do everything "by the book" you feel you've blown it. It's not sustainable. ELT lets you make the adjustments you need without losing motivation, so you feel you can stick with it. Reading some of the reviews, I understand that Danna and Robyn's faith-based foundation isn't for everyone. Don't throw the baby out with the bath here. It is also true that many of the ingredients recommended/included are not completely familiar or "off the shelf", although even Walmart and chain grocery stores are now carrying many of them! Amazon has everything you need. And what fun to experiment knowing the foods are the best you can feed your worthy body. Danna and Robyn are accessible and supportive through social media and online video coaching. I have joined both their Launch Team and Academy and it's the best thing I've done for myself in a long time! Oh, and did I mention I feel amazing on every level and those pesky 20 pounds are fading off the scale? Not sure how ELT came on my radar even before being officially released, but I'm thrilled it did ... kudos Danna and Robyn.

Loved this book and plan! Especially the fact that it addresses not just what to do for weight loss and health, but really addresses changing habits from the mental and emotional side of things. The authors shared about their own struggles in this section and some faith based principles that are really just universal and can be used by all even if you don't share their same faith. The diet itself is broken into 3 phases and I liked that it had three levels to start at in the first phase which allows you to notch up as you were more prepared and also that you could pick and choose different options to make it personally work for you. I really like the idea of the 2nd phase where you discover some of you own personal food culprits which makes their plan very specific to you as an individual. Also the fact that it has a plan for long term lifestyle and how to circle back around through the phases when life gets in the way and you fall off track is really a great plan for me.

Keeping your weight under control in middle age isn't easy, as I'm learning. So when I saw "Eat, Live, Thrive Diet" offered for review (thanks, WaterBrook/Multnomah), I was eager to snatch a copy.

Authors Danna Demetre and Robyn Thomson are excellent advertisements for the diet/lifestyle: both look amazing for their ages (Demetre says she is 65). The book has a Christian perspective, and really does cover many lifestyle aspects rather than just diet guidelines.

I especially enjoyed the parts of the book that discuss keeping a positive, encouraging outlook toward yourself and your efforts. It's something I've used personally for years, and really advocate. Often the world will not treat us kindly. Surely at least we can be gentle with ourselves! Danna discusses her battle with anxiety and negative thinking, and I found her thoughts on this helpful.

I also liked the book's discussion of intermittent fasting. This is something I've used for the past year (in my case, just "fasting" each day from 6 p.m. until noon the next day) and it has been really helpful in helping me maintain my weight and even lose a few pounds.

As to the diet itself, they recommend eliminating all grains and sugar, at least for a while. This is too extreme for me and I won't be doing it. There are many recipes included in the back of the book, and many coconut products are included: coconut oil, coconut flour, etc. I don't like coconut, so this would be an issue for me. Additionally, I'm not totally sold on the health of coconut oil. For sweetening, they advocate using monk fruit extract in almost every recipe. I've never heard of it, so I'll have to look into that a bit more.

I found some bits in the book pretty funny. For instance, when a basket of chips arrives at the table when you're eating out at a Mexican place, they recommend thinking thoughts like, "I can sit here and enjoy the conversation without crunching down on those chips, which are probably stale and full of genetically modified ingredients." Ha ha -- they're better women than I am, I think :) They also advocate "body brushing," a practice that sounds a little strange to me.

I enjoyed the book for the pointers I could glean from it. I encourage you to do the same.

This book is for females who over 50 or postmenopausal. I read the book in one evening, because it was just that interesting. It has practical examples to follow and plenty of room for modifications to the elimination diet plan. The authors don't push their faith but simply explain what they believe and how those beliefs help them to thrive.

We older women know it is harder to lose weight and stay fit. This book is for women over 45 to help them deal with issues making weight loss hard. The main issue seems to be unknown food sensitivities. The authors recommend an elimination phase, starting with eliminating wheat and sugar. After a time is a discovery phase where foods are reintroduced, one at a time, helping discover the sensitivities. There is lastly a lifestyle phase, after we have discovered how our bodies deal with various foods.

There were two areas I really appreciated in this book. One was the emphasis on nourishing ourselves with real food. Processed foods are discouraged. Carbohydrates are carefully controlled. While vegetables can be unlimited, fruits and grains are limited. Refined foods are to be avoided.

Another area I really liked was on the importance of our thoughts. There is no permanent way of changing our behavior without changing our thoughts. The authors help us identify the lies we believe about food, take unhealthy thoughts captive and replace them with the truth. We are to practice healthy self talk daily. This was a game changer for me.

I recommend this book to older women who have had trouble losing weight through calorie or portion control. You'll find it's not just the amount of food you eat but also the kind of food you eat that is important to weight loss. The authors write that about thirty percent of our weight is determined by genetics and gender. About seventy percent we control by what we eat and how we exercise. You'll get some great teaching on that seventy percent in this book.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publishers. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Eat, Live Thrive Diet helps women learn how to lose body fat permanently and how to improve their brain function, disease resistance, increase energy and improve health.

The two authors have experience as health coaches who have dealt with the issues presented in this book.

The research Demetre and Thomson has done is evident through this book. I have been one of those they are trying to help and their advice seems sensible enough to follow. They also cover dietary issues which may come with age, such as gluten, and they talk about the advantages and disadvantages with these foods

This would be a good book for any lady who is approaching, or is in midlife.

A book for women that value the importance of maintaining a holistic and integral lifestyle on our road to achieve happiness and success; a healthy mind in a healthy body. I eat a healthy diet and I don’t need to lose weight, with that said, I like to try new ways of staying healthy, try new recipes, learn new exercise routines, as well as being reminded of the practices that are simple but can be quite beneficial such as body brushing and deep breathing. Reading Danna and Robyn’s book makes me feel as if I am sitting with them at the kitchen table talking about nutrition, health, aging, from a place of love and understanding that only a lived life can give us. This book is a little gem to any woman who enjoys sharing and growing with other women. Their recipes are simple to make, healthy and delicious. I make them for myself and I bring them to potlucks. It is always fun to share with others how the dishes I bring embrace the philosophy of healthy eating while celebrating the pleasure of eating food that tastes good and makes us feel good; Lemon Cauliflower Risotto anyone?

I have and have read Danna’s first book, and this book is a great addition to that! It is an easy read and I think it’s a easy program to follow! As we age our metabolisms get a little touchy and it is and has been amazing to figure out what foods are not ideal for me in this season of my life. Danna and Robyn also have a great Academy that is very inexpensive and which will give you personal coaching which I highly recommend. These two are so encouraging in my walk and with making healthier choices. I noticed that somebody wrote something about the gray boxes and, mind you, this is not the final edition yet :-) that is coming out I believe in March. I have many diet books – and this is by far one of my favorite programs. Thank you. Emma

The Eat Live Thrive Diet is an amazing program and book. Danna and Robyn are so knowledgeable. The recipes are so easy to follow and taste great. I have done many diets and programs in the past and each time I come back to what they teach and I feel the best. I love having the opportunity to discover what foods are not right for me. This is a refreshing look at a live style called Eat, Live, Thrive. With the Media bombarding us with so much food information, it's hard to know who to believe? What’s the truth? These authors help navigate that journey and give you tools that will help you be the best you, you can be. These ladies get the struggle (they've had their own). Each of them reveals their failures and triumphs in achieving their goals. I liked that these ladies address the fact we are a diverse culture and have different reactions to a variety of foods. There is no cookie cutter meal plan that fits all.

I liked the statement in the front cover, “This book is dedicated to every woman who has believed the lie that her best body, health, and life are in the past. We’re here to shout from the rooftops that your best years can be ahead of you when you put the Eat, Live, Thrive Diet and Lifestyle Plan into action.”

They explain the realities of weight gain after forty-five and how women’s bodies change. These ladies give readers the tools to help them listen to their own body as they look for signs of foods that work well with their body type. I found this most helpful. They talk about things beyond Gluten Sensitivity, and Insulin Resistance. There are three phases to this plan. First is the Elimination Phase. “The program begins with the temporary elimination of several key foods known to promote insulin resistance and cause allergies, sensitivity and inflation.”

The second stage is the Discovery Phase – “….test potentially troublesome foods as your schedule permits.…” When life is more manageable test some more. We recommend taking three days to test each food. If you have a negative reaction, you need to wait to test the next food until all symptoms are gone.” Ideally this will take a month. The third is the life style phase - maintenance.

Then your self-talk.. This is huge. I recall telling myself things I’d never think to say to a person ever. These ladies help women recognize the lies they’ve believed about themselves and others. I like the quote Bob George in his book Classic Christianity states, “People are in bondage to their erroneous beliefs and it moves them into emotional and physical bondage.”

These ladies are all about setting women free to and help them renew their mind to transform your bodies. This book is set up to be a work book of sorts with places to write in for each phase.

They also have tools that go beyond the book. They have an on-line community you can join for a nominal cost for on-line coaching, and encouragement. You can get as much help as you want, and your schedule allows. I liked that these ladies are pretty detailed about giving you symptoms to look for when you have a reaction to a food you’ve been eating. They also have recipes to try and helpful hints of taking food to go. I’ve been on the plan for a few weeks now and feel great. I’m still learning and adjusting but I’m encouraged about this live style change.

Eat, Live Thrive (aka ELT) is a lifestyle change for women in midlife (or after) who struggle with weight loss or even just generally feeling well. Sometimes the foods we eat can be the cause of symptoms such as inflammation, leading to pain in limbs and joints. Even overall fatigue could be caused by too much caffeine. Weird, right? Danna and Robyn offer a simple set of instructions, broken down by three separate levels, to help cleanse the body and prepare it in order to test for food sensitivities. Perhaps certain cheeses don’t sit well in the stomach, but it’s difficult to know for sure because of the other food ingested. This diet makes it simple. For two weeks, eliminate sugar and wheat products. Level 2, for two more weeks, eliminate more (dairy, nuts, legumes, etc). The idea is to get the body off processed and other foods that we might have a sensitivity to and start fresh. By finishing level 1 or level 2 (or both), we can then start the process of testing which foods are ok and which should we avoid.

I highly recommend this book for anyone that has struggled not just with weight loss, but with feeling well in general. I believe this method will help the reader learn a great deal about their own body. It isn’t an all-encompassing diet. Each person may experience something different. I may be fine with hard cheeses, but can’t handle soft cheese. You might find that milk won’t work for you, as it does for me. It’s all about learning, discovery. And the ultimate goal is to improve your wellbeing and thrive. Danna and Robyn are extremely supportive and helpful. They offer coaching sessions and make themselves available to answer questions during those live webinars, through Facebook posts and messages, and even through email. They didn’t just write the book and forget about the reader. They really want each reader to succeed. I did go through level 1, which was tough at first. But I was actually able to break away from my sugar addiction. That, in itself, is a big accomplishment. For me, the weight loss didn’t happen, but it’s more likely due to the hormone levels that have always prevented me from being successful with weight loss. If you find yourself struggling and noting no difference in your weight, it might be a good idea to have your doctor check your hormone levels. I’m estrogen dominant, meaning that my body won’t let go as easily as someone who isn’t. Despite avoiding sugar and wheat, the scale did not budge. That isn’t the fault of the plan. Honestly, it should have worked. Fewer calories in than burned equals weight loss. Well, the math is right, my body isn’t. Once I get that under control, I have no doubt it will work for me.

This book includes a pep talk, shared personal stories and encouragement. The middle of the book offers the details of each level and tips on how to succeed. The final portion of the book includes recipes to help you get through the levels, especially if you’re craving bread, but need to avoid wheat. They do offer suggestions for vegetarians as well. This diet focuses a lot on vegetable and fruit intake. Makes sense, right? I do like the idea of testing certain food groups to see if they cause stomach issues or even slight weight gain. My sister-in-law can drink regular soda as much as she wants, but for me, sugar is my worst enemy. It’s comforting when I’m stressed, but then it packs on the pounds, causing more stress. Thanks to the authors’ encouragement (and the awesome support of my husband) I’ve been able to break my addition. Woo hoo! I’ve shared this book with a friend and my mother, both of whom have enjoyed reading it and giving it a try with success. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for my review. The honest opinions in this review are my own.

A lifestyle and diet plan

My rating is 4.5 stars

Over the years, I have gone through dietary changes for various health reasons. Overall the way I eat would be considered ""healthy"" and yet there always seems to be some reason I need to modify what my diet.

Despite the way I eat, my metabolism is not what it used to be and I am in the same boat as many other women out there wanting to conquer the weight that I have gained. And so when I saw that this book is specifically for midlife metabolism issues, I figured it would be worth checking to see if it would help.

My thoughts:

While there are some similarities, this is not a Paleo or Keto diet. In fact, the authors make a very interesting point about how strange it would be if God really did design our bodies in such a way that we have to trick them as the process of staying in ketosis requires. There is also a careful emphasis on making healthy choices even in the types of fats that you should eat.

One of the things I appreciate is that this is not simply an eating plan for losing weight nor is it written by people who have never had weight issues. The authors have both struggled with weight, unhealthy eating, and image insecurities.

In addition to suggestions on how to eat are encouragements from Scripture to not focus on outward appearance. Suggestions for when to eat as well as exercise and other lifestyle changes that can be made are also included.

My experience with the diet:

After reading the book, I started implementing the eating plan. There is an initial two-week elimination phase consisting of avoiding foods that are common sensitivities. After this phase, you are guided in how to slowly add those foods back into your diet in a way that you can identify which ones are a problem. The final phase is the ""maintenance"" phase.

I'm now at the phase where I am adding foods back in after the two week elimination. Of course, my hope was that I would be seeing a reduction in my weight right away, but I will be honest with you, according to what I see on the scale and in the way my clothes fit, there isn't any difference yet. But with the various food allergies and sensitivities I deal with, I am not able to include a number of the recommendations in my diet. In addition, my previous diet had already excluded significant amounts of foods I shouldn't be eating, so the changes I have made have not been all that radical. Plus, did I mention it has only been two weeks?

My recommendation:

So here is my thought. Even if my weight doesn't change, there is some very good material in the book that can help to change the way you think about your body and the way you eat. If your diet is not very good right now, this is a very practical and balanced way of eating that can help. And I imagine others will have quicker results than I do because of the issues I deal with. So I recommend this to women who are at or past the mid-life stage and need to make a dietary change. I think this would be useful for younger women to get an earlier start into an overall healthy way of living.

“We will teach you how to make your body shift from being predominately a carbohydrate or sugar burner to a metabolically agile burner of all fuels, including fat,” Danna Demetre and Robyn Thomson write in their book, Eat Live Thrive Diet: A Lifestyle Plan to Rev Up Your Midlife Metabolism.

~ What ~
This uncorrected proof copy is a two-hundred-and-seventy-two-page paperback that targets mainly women over forty-five-years of age who want to lose weight, have more energy, and maintain a healthier lifestyle as they age.

After an introduction, the read with Christian-based concepts and Bible verses is divided into five parts that contain a total of fifteen chapters. The diet preparation, plan, foods, life changes, and recipes are broken down by sections in paragraphs with sidebars, highlights, charts, and bullet points. The ending includes a note from the authors, resources, acknowledgments, notes, index, and recipe/ingredient indexes.

~ Why ~
This book has a diet structure that is separated into three progressive steps: the temporary elimination of specific foods for up to fourteen days, the discovery of re-introducing foods for three days to determine the body’s reactions, and the focus on a lifestyle that is a mind-renewal overhaul that includes relying on God. I appreciated the discussions on sugar addiction, carb overload, toxic build-up, testing food with sensitivity symptoms, and a daily checklist of consumption.

~ Why Not ~
Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may want to avoid this book that incorporates Him into dieting. Others may find no new information about using common sense to cut back carbs and sugar, increase exercise, and short-term fasting for twelve to sixteen hours, mostly while sleeping. Some recipes include coconut oil, which many may question its true health benefits.

~ Wish ~
Since I feel like I am already on such a regiment by watching my intake, eating healthy non-processed foods, limiting grains, and going to the gym or exercising, I gleaned little reading it. I found it extremely had to read some of the gray-highlighted boxes that had white print. I wish all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence.

~ Want ~
If you are getting up in years, want to lose a few pounds, and feel younger with more energy, this diet that uses common sense while tossing in limited Bible verses may be helpful if you are not already aware of different foods and how they interact with your body.

Thanks to the Waterbrook & Multnomah Launch Team for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

One of the things I most appreciate about this book (other than it includes specific information for women over 40) is that it incorporates your entire life--your mindset, thoughts, and specific issues--as well as an eating plan and exercise. I also love that the authors freely admit that while doing everything they recommend is best, even regular small changes for the better are really good. They clearly strived to keep things realistic no matter where each reader is on the health scale, and reminded more than once that each of us is unique and we need to take that into consideration as we work to take care of ourselves.

I absolutely loved this book for its practical tips and the three-phased approach of elimination, discovery and lifestyle to take the guesswork out of what's working and what's not working with my nutritional and wellness goals. I have many sections highlighted and bookmarked for ongoing reference.

Eat, Live, Thrive Diet is more of a road map to guide you where you need to go to change your lifestyle as you age. As much as I want to believe I’m not going to let age get the better of me, there are some things out of my control and areas in need of improvement. Highly recommend this book.

My review:

First off, I get bad headaches at least 3 times a week. Since I started the Eat Live Thrive diet 23 days ago, I have only had 1 headache!!! And it was on day 2 of the diet!!! You guys, this book has helped me so much! I highly recommend this book!

Now, this will probably be a long review but it will be an honest one. When this book became available for me to be on the launch team, I debated about joining it, because it was a diet book. But after reading more info about it, I saw that it is more of a lifestyle change rather than one of those fad diets. My Mom, my 2 sisters, and I always trying to help each other lose weight by doing a diet race where the one who loses the most at the end of the month wins $5 from everyone etc. I signed up to be on the launch team for my family. I figured this might be a way to get us all on board and to help us change the way we looked at the food we ate. When I received the book, I finished it in one sitting. I found this book to be very easy to read and full of great information. I highlighted, underlined and bookmarked many pages. And then I presented the plan to my Mom and sisters. I told them this is for a book review, I can't have you stopping the second it gets hard. I made them promise me. We all chose to do the Level 3 phase, so on March 4, one of my sisters and I both started the diet. My mom started on March 11, and my other sister on March 18. Here's how we're doing so far:

I am 5'8" and weighed 152.6 lbs. when I started 23 days ago. I now weigh 146.6 lbs. After 23 days, I am down 6 pounds and 3" overall. I do workout twice a week lifting weights. It may not look like a big jump in weight but I don't have much to lose. My goal is 140 lbs. The most important thing is how I feel. Like I said, I get bad headaches all the time! And to be headache free for 22 days is amazing!! I feel great. I don't find the diet that hard because I do like food and most of the fruit and vegetables and proteins. This book is teaching us to really look at labels and ingredients and to eat real food with none of the junk, like artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors, high-fructose corn syrup, MSG, GMO's, and preservatives. I am in the Discovery phase of the diet, which is where you bring in a trigger food like dairy, nuts, wheat etc one at a time, so I am curious to see if I have any sensitivities or reactions to certain foods.

My mom is 5'7" and weighed 246 lbs. when she started. It has been 15 days for her and she now weighs 234.2 lbs. She is down 12.2 lbs! I am so proud of her. My mom has a bad back, so her exercise is very light. Here's what she had to say about the ELT diet: "It was very hard the first few days and I almost gave up. But I am down 12 pounds and have no cravings, I feel good, and I have plenty of energy. I would recommend this diet."

Sister #1 is 5'11" and weighed 189.0 when starting. After 23 days, she is down 7.5 lbs. and 6 inches overall, and now weighs 181.5 lbs. She also works out twice a week lifting weights and rides horses. I knew this diet would be hard for her because she does not like vegetables and most fruit. She makes a smoothie with fruit, spinach, and kale so that has helped her stick with it. On day three, I made Snickerdoodle Muffins from the recipe provided in the book, and when she got home from work she said I don't think I can do this. I pulled out the muffins and she loved them. The recipes from the book like the Snickerdoodle and Lemon poppy muffins, the Chocolate Bliss Squares, and the Pumpkin Spice Pancakes really helped her out. I believe she would have quit if these weren't available. And they are so delicious! Here's what she had to say: "The diet is hard and brutal since I am a picky eater and don't like a lot of the healthy foods, especially during the elimination phase when you can't eat potatoes, but the muffins saved me LOL. I'm down almost 8 lbs. and I feel better since I cut out junk food. I would recommend this diet to lose weight and to get healthy."

Sister #2 is 5'8" and weighed 222.2 lbs. when starting. After being on the diet 8 days, she is down 6.2 lbs. and now weighs 216.0. She also works out, but three times a week, and lifts weights. She also likes a lot of the health foods so she finds the diet pretty easy to do. She is still in the elimination phase. Here's what she had to say: "The diet is pretty easy, after the first couple days you start feeling better and you don't even think about crappy food. I only got one headache and I have way more energy. I definitely recommend making the muffins because those are life savers. They make you feel like you are eating bread and carbs. And Yes, I recommend this diet."

I am so excited about this book. I purchased one for my grandma who has struggled with her weight for a long time and she is very active. If you want to feel great, get healthy, and lose weight I would recommend this book to you. I can't promise it won't be hard, because it all depends on you and your eating habits, challenges, and struggles. Having a support group and/or friends and family to do it with you also helps.

I received this book from Waterbrook Multnomah for an honest review.
Thank you to the authors, Danna and Robyn, for this book.

Thanks to the Waterbrook & Multnomah Launch Team for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

or midlife women looking to help get their health back on track comes a book that will explain why women gain weight as they age and give tools to fight back.

Eat, Live, Thrive Diet is a book written to help show women how they can lose the extra body fat they have accumulated and improve overall health as they age. Included is an eating plan written by two very experienced health coaches who give their own personal examples of battling weight loss and emotional eating. This is not a short-lived diet, but a long-term lifestyle change for those needing it. One point the book makes is the dangers that can be found in many of the fad diets that are so popular today.

Eat, Live, Thrive Diet is an in-depth look at how your body can change, as you get older. The book explores several different phases of eliminating certain food groups from your diet that can help you feel your best. One of the things I liked about their approach was saying that not everything would work for every individual. Our bodies are all different and we will react in different ways to cutting out or adding foods or supplements. The charts are very helpful to readers wondering what to cut out and when. I personally am not a huge fan of the Keto diet and appreciate how this book shows the difference in their approach to Keto and other fad diets on the market today. I have always tried to live with the motto of everything in moderation. With that being said, there are several things that I do believe have no place in our bodies; sodas are at the top of my list, diet or regular, I see no need to put that in our bodies. I gave up drinking sodas when I was about 13 and have had no desire to pick them up since. If we can make sure and stay hydrated by drinking water, our bodies will thank us. Sometimes when we think we are hungry it is really our bodies saying we are thirsty. Danna and Robyn both do a great job of giving examples into their own lives with the changes they are proposing so readers can see a firsthand example of what they might be experiencing. The last section of the book provides readers with recipes for meals that will stay within the guidelines and be enjoyable to eat for the whole family. For the most part this isn’t a meal plan you can follow if you are a picky eater, but if you are willing to branch out and try new things you might be surprised how good it can make you feel. I recommend this to any midlife readers looking to kick start their metabolism and change their life.

I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

Here I am again reading another diet book. I probably have read or opened most every one of them. This one is finally different. A book written by two qualified women for midlife women bodies. Let’s see how this one compares.

I was impressed with the writing style in the book. In parts it was scientific as it explained metabolism and different foods, but it did it in easy to understand terms. The concept is timely and needed. Every woman wants to look and feel better. I know I do. The authors are transparent with their own struggles and trials. They understand what obstacles might pop up and are ready to help readers navigate them. Once I started reading this informative book, I read it cover to cover. I was like a sponge wanting to soak up as much information as possible.

This health book has Christian-based concepts and scripture. It begins with an introduction and is divided into five parts and a total of fifteen chapters. The diet preparation, plan, foods, life changes, and recipes are broken down by sections in paragraphs with sidebars, highlights, charts, and marks. Concluding the book I s a note from the authors, resources, acknowledgments, notes, index, and recipe/ingredient indexes. It is a well research, well planned, and well organized book.

My favorite thing was the Christian aspect. It was there to help but was not preachy. Our mind, body, and soul all need to be healthy to work properly. The authors address this and acknowledge the importance of changing habits lmentally and emotionally, also.

This book taught me many things. I found the plan to be similar to a Keto diet I have tried but yet there are differences. The plan basically emphasises nourishment with “real” food. Processed foods are discouraged. While vegetables can be unlimited, fruits and grains are not. Refined foods are to be avoided and carbohydrates controlled.

As with every plan, there were some things I did not quite think would be for me. The extras that they use are not things I want to buy. The plan itself, yes. That I am trying successfully.

I really liked this book. It would benefit any woman. Younger women would learn healthy lifestyle choices early. Older women could implement this plan and get healthier. I highly recommend it and give it a 4 out of 5 stars. An advanced reader copy (ARC) copy was provided by the publisher, but I was under no obligation to write a review. This is my own opinion.
