Okay, this is part three of the Betrayal storyline, subtitled "Moment of Truth". Let's see how it holds up to the others, and the series in general.

The issue skips a bit of time and starts with Vikki being tortures by the Darkholders, a mysterious cult that has been trying to capture her since the first issue and succeeded last issue with the help of her ally, Agent Sam Buchannan. Hence the title, Betrayal. Vikki is being tortured rather than killed because of her vision last issue. She knows the location of the newest Darkhold page, and it is apparently the most important page in the book of the Darkhold... the Demogorge.

Vikki is saved by Jinx... there's really no explaination of a how a 14 year old snuck into the base of the greatest secret society on the Earth, which also happens to be run by the same guy that runs Interpol. Anyway, he saves her. Meanwhile, Buchannan and his boss are still trying out their nonsensical plan from issue 8 to use an APB to stop all the Darkhold pages in their tracks. Again, this makes no sense, and is not cleared up any here. I understand the theory that if the pages end up in law enforcement's hands they will know not to open them... but the pages have never ended up in law enforcement's hands. Why would they start now?

Regardless, Jinx used the wish-fufilment page to take out some guards and Vikki uses the page's indestructible qualities to short circuit Louise's cell. Now everyone's free again. Sadly Buchannan quickly catches them and his loyalty to the team is put to the test, but it's soon revealed that his boss duped him and that he is the Darkholder's master. Buchannan comes back to our side, and sends out a second fax telling all law enforcement agencies to disregard the first fax about the pages... huh? What's to stop them from sending a third fax? Why does any of this matter? This issue and issue eight would have been so much stronger without this plot element. It just lifts right out, too.

Buchannan proves himself by saving Vikki from being electrocuted, burning his hands severely in the process. They say they're heading to New York, to where Vikki senses the page has landed... and the Midnight Massacre will begin!

There's also an epilog in which Modred claims he's finally figured a way out of Miami, though it's not explained how.

This issue isn't the worst of the series, but it comes close. There are too many plot holes that are just weird. The Interpol- fax plot should never have been introduced. It makes no sense, and isn't even interesting. When the climax of a plot involves the writing of a professionally-worded letter, there are issue at play.

2/5. Again, not the worst. but damn close. Can't wait until the Massacre begins. ;)
