Silver Spoons is a story told in the form of letters. The entire book is comprised of letters telling the journey of an addict and what happens when one goes through withdrawals. Reading those letters, I felt like I was peeking into the mind of the person, feeling their helplessness, their addiction first-handed. The letters described the intimacy of their relationship, the dependency. It was just an entire ride of emotions through and through. I must say that the writing is so brilliant to have made me feel everything. There were times I felt so upset and times where I smiled. Every time a new letter began, I had my hopes up. Since I have not read anything by this author before, I don’t know if that is her usual form of narration but it becomes very difficult to tell a story through letters and still develop characters and create imagery in the reader’s mind. Yet, the writer has done that very well. Drug addiction is a theme I have read a lot about and every time, I feel like it is such a menace that needs to be tackled with. Books with such theme that create empathy in you are much needed. And what better than being inside the mind of an addict?

Silver Spoons is an intense, raw, and compelling read. There was so much emotion and powerful messages in this novel and I think it’s something to read if you’ve ever dealt with or known someone with an addiction issue.

Told in a series of letters, you should be fairly warned this is a read with mature themes and graphic imagery. Not for the faint of heart, but also created in a very respectful and important way.

I enjoyed how intense and raw this book was. I think it sheds light on a topic that needs more light shed on it. I recommend checking Silver Spoons out!

This was a fantastic book to read. It really revealed a part of life that I didn't have much exposure to. I recommended it to my book club, and they loved it! It is a must read for anyone from young adult to mature readers!

2 lovers, one addict. Will their love survive when their world is turned upside down?

She didn’t know that he was still an addict. He had told her that he is a recovering drug addict but soon it became evident that he wasn’t recovering.

By then she loved him and couldn’t abandon him.

With a turbulent relationship he eventually decided to go the whole hog in rehab.

The story begins as letters between him and her. How they are feeling and what they are up too.

At first it took me time to get into the book and I didn’t realise that the letters were a foundation of what was to come.

However once I read on, I was hooked. The story also alternates into past and present. Which gives you an idea of what their relationship was like before rehab.

For me this book was a whirlwind of emotions. Feeling angry, loved and I even cried. (Signs of a good author. )

I would highly recommend this book but just be aware it is about drug addiction, along with some intimate scenes.

I thought it was interesting that the author chose not to focus on the effects of the drugs, though she does showcase that in several scenes, or even the detox process, but rather she shows through each series of letters that is exchanged how the time really passes while our couple attempts to do the impossible. With each stint in rehab, and each new year, we see not only the commitment of one woman to a man that she loves, but his commitment to better himself and make himself better over and over again as he succumbs and resists so he can fight his way out. It's a battle uphill in the snow while wearing blinders and I cannot see myself wishing that on my worst enemy, but Ms. Dickinson wrote this couple into is so we wouldn't have to. Learn from this.

The Review

A wonderfully written book, the author has done a marvelous job of creating a realistic and emotional story of love, addiction and the pain that comes with it.

The story really does a fantastic job of showcasing the painful reality of both sides of addiction, from the addicts struggle to overcome the addiction to the loved ones who must struggle to support their loved ones and the hope they must hold that they will overcome their need.

The Verdict

A powerful story and evenly paced novel, this book is a must read fiction of a very real problem in our world. If you haven’t yet be sure to grab your copies today!

Silver Spoons is a raw, powerful, emotional story. Told in a series of letters, this graphic journey through addiction and recovery will hold you captive. Don't pick it up unless you're prepared for the more mature themes and occasionally rather graphic imagery. If you're ready for a story that will take you from highs to lows and back again, then don't let this pass you by.
