There are gods and monsters and horrors galore prowling the streets of Aurora, Michigan, and Cal Kinsey is determined to stop them—or at least flip them the bird while he dies trying.
Two years ago, Calvin Kinsey was an up-and-coming cop at the Aurora Police Department. Then his partner was brutally murdered by a vampire who skipped away scot-free, and Cal was thrown headfirst into the supernatural world he never knew existed in the shadows.
Now, Cal is a newly minted detective at the Department of Supernatural Investigations. By day, the agents of DSI are mocked as “Kooks” by local law enforcement. By night, they’re known as “Crows” and reviled by the supernatural underworld.
Thrust into the middle of ancient rivalries, complex conspiracies, and budding wars, Cal has to hit the ground running in his new detective role in order to protect his beloved city from the things that go bump in the night.
Because if DSI falls to the dark side of the supernatural, the human world falls with them.
This box set contains the first five books in the action-packed City of Crows urban fantasy series: Soul Breaker, Shade Chaser, Wraith Hunter, Doom Sayer, and Day Killer.
Clara Coulson is an author of action-packed urban fantasy and paranormal thriller novels with sarcastic main characters and supernaturally empowered villains.
Currently living in the Middle of Nowhere, Virginia, Clara spends most of her time dreaming up bizarre paranormal scenarios and adapting them into novels and reading through the enormous backlog of books on her shelves.
Clara likes silly cats, pepperoni pizza, and collecting an absurd number of notebooks and BIC pens that she has no real use for.
Great start and plot. Sadly it never lived up to its potential. Main character who acts totally “girly” like a scream movie and always becomes the OMG I’m screwed and can’t do anything right whoa is me character who seems to come out alive. Fun for a bit but becomes tiring after the umpteenth time. Then add the hanging threads. I lost count on the number of these. I have tried twice now to get through this series. Definitely not a recommend.
I've read the whole series, and I have reviewed the whole series on each individual book. If you'd like to read the reviews for each individually, check out each title. As a whole, this has become one of my favorite series. I just love Cal, and the last book just blew me away. It will take us all in a different direction, and I can't wait to see where we will go from here. If urban fantasy is your thing, please give this series a try, and I highly recommend it!
A humdinger series of supernatural and very human beings!
I loved Cal and all his cronies and the antics of vampires, werewolves, witches and other supernatural beings in the city off Aurora.. A very Dr Strange style of writing hat captures your attention and does not let it go . As cal grows in self knowledge he helps others do the same even fellow agents and witches and vampires while surviving every attempt to kill him !
This is the collection of the first fivee books. The story introduces Cal Kinsey and the supernatural world living in Aurora Michigan. Love the way the story is evolving and the interaction between the characters. The story is told from Cal’s viewpoint so it is continuously engaging and a fun read. Love the action scenes, since a lot of detail is included so you imagine the fights blow by blow.
It’s hard not to fall in love with every character in these books including the occasional villain. I absolutely do not look forward to reading the last book in the series. I’m delighted that Coulson is obviously a prolific writer. I’m up all hours as I can’t put this series down.
I picked up this 5 book set from amazon when it was on sale, and I'm very glad that I did! It is now my favorite series, and I'm currently almost finished with book 7. The characters are very likable. I read a book every day or two and am sad that I am almost finished. I hope the author comes out with more and I cannot wait to start the other series that she wrote.
Excellent book set! I like Calvin a lot, and the fact that he actually has consequences that affect him. The characters grow and evolve throughout the books. I don't want to give anything away, but the ending surprise was good. I suspected part of it, but not all.
Editing was excellent. I don't recall any mistakes in that department which always makes me happy!
This is a great set to dive into Clara’s world of supernatural and the Crows who have sworn their lives to keep it safe. Each book is a new experience with a new problem for Cal and friends to figure out.
I have been looking for something to prop me up as I wait for the next Dresden Files book and I have found it. These are entertaining. The world is interesting. It reminds me of a cross between Larry Corriea’s Monster Hunter novels and the Dresden Files.
If you want a fun read with interesting characters, great character development, thought provoking and socially relevant plots, vivid settings, and gruesome fight scenes, read this series.
If I had to make comparisons, I would call it the amalgamation of Buffy, Kill Bill, and X-files.
