He’s gorgeous. He’s successful. And he’s technically my employer. Introducing Jackson Callaghan, who looks like no lawyer ever should.
I shouldn’t be noticing how he wears a suit, or thinking about what his hair looks like in the mornings. Instead, I’m meant to be sticking to just three things:
Growing my marketing business Buying my cheating, arrogant ex out of said business Never getting involved with anyone I work with. Ever. Again.
London, England. The residence of the queen, suited City boys and the man who won’t give up: Jackson Callaghan. With his tattoos and and a talent for charming, he’s set his sights on me, and his ambition extends to outside the courtroom… me.
Just one night won’t hurt, will it? A simple hook up isn’t really breaking my own rules.
But what happens when a hook up leaves you hooked?
ENGAGEMENT RATE is a steamy office romance with no cheating and a happily ever after. It's the first book in the CALLAGHAN GREEN SERIES, set in London, England.
I really enjoyed this book. Jackson is blatantly a man who is used to getting what he wants, but he's not overbearing with it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy an over-the-top alpha male as much as the next girl, but this book gave me the powerful hero without stomping all over the heroine. Jackson was, undoubtedly, adorable. He was so sweet at times and then at others he was hot and dirty. As for our heroine... Vanessa was a great character. She had a lot of spirit and I liked that she was strong and independent. She didn't let Jackson walk all over her either.
Added to all this was a great ensemble cast. I loved the Callaghan Greene's! They were all fun and different enough they felt like real people. I'm looking forward to hearing more from them! I especially loved Marie! It made a change to move away from the 'evil stepmother' template, because Marie really does adore her family. Gran was hilarious, and of course Sophie definitely deserves a mention.
All in all, a solid first novel from the author that definitely kept me turning the pages to see what came next!
A story of emotionally insecure girl meets domineering man with a boozy, rowdy, rude family, plus lots of sex (usually rough). The best part of the story is the male protagonist's family, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why any of them would give two cents for the female lead character. Warning, this is a self published a book. While the credits indicate a proofreader was used, they did a lousy job. The numerous misspellings, incomplete sentences and misuse of words was a distraction from the story.
When I first read the synopsis of ENGAGEMENT RATE, I knew immediately that I was going to love it, and I wasn’t disappointed. This book is a stand-alone but is the first one of a series based around members of the same family. In this story, we meet Jackson Callaghan. Sexy tattooed, lawyer, working as the head of his family’s law firm in London. <—- ( This sold me straight away, as I’m a sucker for a British book hero!! ) Jackson’s love interest is the equally strong and ambitious, Vanessa Moore, who is employed to rebrand Callaghan Green. From the moment Jackson sets his sights on Vanessa, she doesn’t stand a chance, as much as she tries to put up a fight. Sparks definitely start to fly when these two are around each other. ENGAGEMENT RATE is a steamy office romance, with plenty of humour - I desperately want to adopt Gran as my own because she is so funny. I loved meeting other members of the Callaghan family and look forward to reading the next book, which I believe will be Claire. A fantastic debut from Annie Dyer, and I would say she is going to be one to watch for the future!
I was lucky enough to win an ebook of this one, which is the first in a new series by Annie Dyer. Each book is based around a member of the Callaghan Green law firm. Jackson's book is first. He is a hard worker, who has very little time to play. But oh boy does he want to play when he meets Marketing Exec Vanessa. Vanessa is ready to break ties with her ex and has the perfect opportunity with her new Contract at Callaghan Green. What she doesn't expect is to fall for the likes of Jackson. Both are independent an hardworking. Can they both find the balance together to both work and play hard without losing a part of themselves. Only time will tell. This is the start of something good and I look forward to reading more from the Callaghan Green's.
I picked this book up after seeing Annie post on Facebook.
I looked at it 3 different times, not being quite sure, did I want to read it?
I then downloaded the sample, still not sure if it was right for me but I could try it out.
I still hadn't read it.
And then I took a risk and I'm glad I did. I read the sample promptly forgetting it was a sample and then shouted at my kindle when it stopped telling me the story and I had to download the rest. I inhaled the rest, just swallowed it whole.
I'm now on book two and only taking the time to write this because my reading had been interrupted by my family.
Really enjoyed this one. And it could've been a 4.5 or even a 5 star read. Unfortunately the author had to throw in an odd break up/misunderstanding near the very end. Totally unnecessary. Then a very rushed HEA. Actually the reason I was enjoying this story so much was because there wasn't any lame drama. But then.....
Another annoyance, this book could've used a good proof reading before publishing. And I wish I understood why Jackson's dad was introduced as Grant, but everyone called him Ed. WTH was that?!?
There are plenty of brothers and sisters in the large Callaghan family to keep this series going. Will look forward to book 2 and hope it's drama free.
Annie's Debut novel sounded fantastic from the blurb and Im so glad I decided to give her a try.
This book literally gave me a rollercoaster ride of emotions within it's pages. I laughed at the antics of the family, I swooned and melted over Jackson, and I sympathised with Vanessa and her insecurities due to her past.
I love office romances and this was right up my alley, hot and steamy in all the right places but with lots of giggles and trouble along the way and I can't wait to see what she comes up next.
Okay I love a good office romance but this was a great romance!!! I love Jackson the workaholic and Van the fierce independent woman. Together they make the perfect pair and balance each other out. While there was a little bit of drama it wasn’t the typical ex girlfriend or clingy boot call type. Van did have so e drama but Jackson didn’t go all crazy aloha male which was a nice change of pace. Now I need stories for all the siblings lol!!!!
The time scale for this book is quite short, there isn't a lot of drops and by drops I mean something bad happens and then it gets fixed but something REALLY bad happens and it throws the main characters a part until one usually the guy makes a bit gesture.
It sort of happens, but it didn't feel dramatic and I didn't get that sort of worried feeling so I was kind of happy about it and kind of disappointed. It helps make a story when you have it there but its not a nice feeling!!
Jackson is from what I saw and read he is a good character, good lawyer. He falls for Vanessa very quickly and hard. Vanessa, why the author went for a nickname of Van is beyond me. Not a sexy or a cute nickname but hey lets call her a vehicle. She was OK. I thought a bit of a brat actually in comparison. She was also 'fabulous' and I was kind of on Kirsty's side for some reason!
The sex scenes were weird, the mentioning of wet patches. OK so everyone that doesn't use condoms because they protect themselves in other ways knows of the joys of the cleanup. We are all aware of the quick get up before a wet patch is made after. I don't want to read in a sexy romance where sex is a big part of the book about wet patches. Its gross ruins the picture that the author worked very hard to build up. Its too realistic and I don't want complete realistic in a book, that is my opinion I get some people may want a romance that is realistic. Making her sit in um the aftermath if you can read between the lines is gross and actually a little dangerous. Don't do this, you can get a yeast or a uti infection down there its not pleasant and can cause some actual issues... So that was just damn gross.
Above is why this book lost a star for me. I get that you want to make it some what relate able for everyone to go yeah I do that, but some parts although some people do aren't the best to kind of show off as something to do ? Its unhygienic and I don't really care about that in books I just skim over the end of a scene when one of both go shower or into the bathroom its just a detail I don't care about reading but when you see the extreme opposite I realise I actually need to see that...
After my rant I do want to point out I do like their romance, the family seems very interesting if a bit alcoholics... I'm curious enough to read on though!
I'm a bit behind in the Callaghan awesomeness that is this family. I absolutely loved this first book in the series, yes the romance is fantastic but its all about the family. I love books with a ton of close knit family members who meddle and help each other out in the romance category and boy did this family crack me up! Can I have this families Gran please? Hilarious!
Anywho Dyers writing is top notch, its fun, witty, romantic, steamy and really character driven. I rooted for Jackson and Vanessa to find a HEA. Jackson because he may be a sexy workaholic, with a smidge alpha but he was all about her, and boy did this man fall. Vanessa I wanted her to find happiness after the awful man she had been with hurt her, this guy is a massive jerk and totally loved her with Jackson.
Vanessa is a tough marketing guru and she knows her craft well, she has to deal with her awful ex whom she owns the company with and a lying staff member at Jacksons family firm. She and Jackson have their ups and downs but the sexy moments and banter just kept me begging for more. I cant wait to read the next book and get sucked back into this family fun.
Engagement Rate is funny, sexy, and just plain hot!
Vanessa is a hard worker both when it comes to her marketing company, and taking care of her body. Jackson is the middle son, but he's the one everyone goes to for advice, and he's getting ready to take over his fathers law firm in a couple of weeks.
Both Vanessa and Jackson can feel their attraction from the very first meeting. Vanessa can't believe there's a guy waiting for her who can handle all her baggage. Jacks knows up front he wants more than a hookup. With Vanessa's stupid ex being a pain, and situations with both work and family on Jacks side can this cute couple really pull it off? This book is laugh out loud funny, sweet, and SO sexy it will knock your socks off. I devoured it in one sitting! For a first novel Ms. Dyer has done very well for herself. I can't wait to read the next Callahan Greene novel!
This is a big no from me - it was crude rather than spicy and has no major storyline. It was all just really unnecessary, especially the third act ‘break up’ which was so silly. Perhaps this was the authors first attempt at writing something spicy but I won’t be taking the risk with the rest of the series!
Funny, meet cute, I could slap the mfc at one point for being such b!tch, but she came around, I really love the family, gran 😏😅 lady of my heart, and love to read more about the family and who the chemistry between some characters will flow and end, definitely a 5 star 🌟 read for me
I loved this story! Jackson is everything that I love in a book boyfriend. He is strong, hot, tattooed, and works hard at everything he does. Vanessa is every woman I know. She is independent, sweet and insecure.
Just loved this book from start to finish! Jackson is definitely my kind of man. And I’m a sucker for a good office romance!! I will absolutely continue reading this series from this debut author!!
Fantastic start to this series. I enjoyed Jackson and Vanessa. There were many humorous moments. I especially liked the interactions with his siblings. I'm looking forward to more.
Absolutely adored Vanessa & Jackson. Can’t wait to dig in to the rest of the series. The book had all the feels but also had me chuckling in unexpected places. An easy 5 star read for me.
I really enjoyed this book. This was a great start to a family series. Jackson and Vanessa have a ton of chemistry and I really enjoyed their conversations, their interaction with each other and with Jacks’ family. I can’t wait to read more about this family. There are a few proofing issues but I’m sure this will be cleared up in future books. Great job for a new author!
Great read from this new to me author. This sweet tale about a guy who is just a guy but too busy to be anything but sexy, moody, and all alpha male with a family that will have you in stitches. She is just getting out of a relationship which has damaged her self esteem and not ready for Mr talk, dark, and broody (but never with her). This author gives us a steamy tale about two who weren't until they were and all the dynamics of crazy out of control power mongols who love and support each other with a raze of crap only family can. It's a great story where you will most definitely laugh out loud and enjoy all of the banters and action.
I haven't read this author before but I do like her style and look forward to more. I will have to make sure my fan is available if the rest of the clan goes at it as hard as these two did but I have to say it didn't take away from the story.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a review copy of this book; as always, reviews are my own and honest.
I jumped at the chance to receive an ARC for engagement rate when Annie contacted me. I’ve really been neglecting my romance and new adult reads this year because I’ve been on such a thriller and mystery binging spree but I’m so glad that I chose to read this! This follows Vanessa who runs her own marketing company, unfortunately with her ex, and who is also going through a messy divorce. She’s currently working to rebrand Callaghan Green whilst also trying to not end up in Jackson Callaghan’s bed! Jackson Callaghan is a hard worker and is currently trying to run the London Branch of his Father’s Law Firm. He thought he was more than happy to work long hours and then hang out with his siblings throughout the week until of course, he meets Vanessa where everything could possibly change.
This book is the first in a series of books that can all be read as standalones which is something I’ve grown to really enjoy in romance books. It’s nice knowing that you can pick up any book in the series and not have to worry about reading the rest. One of the best things about engagement rate for me, was that the main Characters {Vanessa and Jackson} were flawed and not perfect people. Vanessa is currently going through a divorce which her ex-husband which is very messy and obviously is making things very difficult to work and sort out her love life, especially since she owns her current PR business with the ex. Jack also had the general personality of the big businessman and was quite dominating and headstrong BUT in this book, he realised it. He’d say things to Vanessa like about how she was ‘his’ and owning her and she’d obviously be a bit like, ‘wtf you don’t own me’ as you would. But then, he’d apologise for saying t and acting like it! Like Wow! Yes, I loved it, they seemed so much more human.
I also thought the other family members were very well done; I’ve read book series which are written in the same style as this series, {Standalone books in a series about a friend group or siblings} and you can lose a lot of the main plot and character development by trying to introduce all the characters you’re going to meet in the upcoming books, but I really didn’t feel like that happened in this book. The other siblings were all introduced but it felt very organic and didn’t take anything away from the main plot or what was actually going on between Vanessa Jackson. There were also a large number of siblings introduced in this book yet as said above, they were all incorporated and introduced so well that I actually managed to remember names and who people were!
I would 100% recommend this book if you’re into romance! It’s a very well written book with such great characters and good plot. It does have a few sexy-time scenes but they’re not over the top and they are well spaced throughout the book so if sexy-time books aren’t your scene then you could still pick this up and give it a go.
4.5 stars I have been waiting to read the Callaghan Green series, but only because I knew I would have to binge read the series once I started. This author writes characters with realistic flaws and realistic scenarios. I really liked Jackson, who is a man used to getting what he wants. Vanessa is tough, smart, fit, and sexy and also used to being in control. I loved how their dynamic unfolds as they learn to be together. The bedroom scenes are steamy and still address the reality of wet spots and how couples often discuss them. I read some reviews that did not like that, but I actually appreciated that it was part of their story. The black moment is not contrived and I appreciated that. It was based on a miscommunication like couples often have. I really liked how the characters showed respect for each other. I enjoyed this book and will continue my binge with the next in the series.
Jackson lives and breathes his job but all that changes when he sees Vanessa working out at the work gym. Vanessa has been brought in to plan Jackson's Dad retirement party as well as help with some re branding when his Dad steps down and from there sparks fly, Jackson can only think of Van and as much as she tries to keep him at arms reach while she does the work for the company it is a loosing battle. I absolutely love Jackson's family as well as they way neither Jackson nor Van really know how to deal with a proper relationship as he has never really had one and Vans previous one which is still a bit messy was more one of convenience although she didn't realise it at the time. There is plenty of highs and lows along with tense times and times where you might want to grab a tissue as we see Jackson and Vans relationship grow and potentiality disintegrate. I am officially hooked!!
This is such a hot London series. I always love a book based in the UK. Meet Jackson, a hot lawyer who is at the top of his game, but he needs to learn to live outside of work. In walks Vanessa.... this book was hot, especially with all the tension that radiates off the page with these two. Both are passionate about their jobs and not wanting to have to diminish themselves in a relationship, can it work with two in one relationship? I literally could not put this series down, i was reading a book from each author of an event I was going to, but I basically read all of Dyer's back log within 2 months and I had no regrets.
This book started off ok but pretty soon it became obvious it wasn't going to be anything special. The issue with Richard and with Kirsty fell very flat and were actually quite pointless. However, the main issue is the very poor editing, this book is full of bad grammatical errors and mistakes which is unacceptable.
Not enough words for how much I love this story! Jackson and Vanessa are a real and terrific couple! I love that although they are hot and fast they also face real challenges that mean work and finding out that they have a real and lasting love!
