Ariel Kimber #4.5
Tyson
Tyson is 4.5 in the Ariel Kimber Series. Tyson Alexander is a long time member of a coven of witches who are more like brothers than simply friends. There are seven of them total in the coven and all of them are male. The majority of them come together from broken, messed-up families and have nothing else in this world that matters outside of each other. Then, six months ago, everything changed when they shared a dream about a beautiful, sad girl who was just like them. That's to say, a witch. Then, she moved in next door to them and changed their entire lives, turning everything upside down. And they all, every single one of them, loved her for it. This book is a part of a series and needs to be read in order. It's also #whychoose. Ariel Kimber reading Brothers of the Flame Love Potion Blood Magic The Ties That Bind Tyson

Tyson's family means everything to him. Not necessarily his birth family but his chosen family, his coven. The coven of seven witches including himself are his brothers and he is the one responsible for breaking them. He is the one who brought Annabell into the coven allowing her evil touch and selfishness damage their bond. He is the one to blame but he will never allow anyone to hurt them again. So when a beautiful witch pulls the coven into her dream and later moves next door, he is determined to protect his heart and his brothers. Impossible. Ariel changes their world forever. She's everything they could ever want but is Tyson going to ruin everything again?
I needed this book. The insight into Tyson is wonderful. I loved Tyon from the beginning but in the last book, I admit I lost patience with him. His secrets, his unwarranted guilt, basically his self-pity were ruining his character for me. This book took the reader straight into the mind and heart of Tyson. And the boy gets stuck in his head way too often! He gets in his own way, takes too much responsibility for things he has no control over, and doesn't share enough of what he's thinking but his intentions are always good. He loves deeply and only wants the best for those he loves. He's great about blaming himself for the bad but doesn't give himself credit for the good. And there's so much good. He's thoughtful, protective, loving. I love his grand purchase, his initial reason behind it, and his hopes for the future. Tyson grew up in this book and stepped out of his uncle's huge shadow. He is becoming the man his coven and Ariel need.

I was super interested in this novella because Tyson was one of my least favorite of the characters in the previous 4 books, so I was hoping to gain some perspective that would make me start really liking him. I think this accomplished it to an extent but this was tough to get through because of the jumping and the extended internal monologue that became repetitive. I think because wow were scene jumping we got that, if these had been in the books around the time Ariel experienced them it wouldn't have seemed so repetitive, if that makes sense. They would have been spaced out more and not all back to back and pretty much redundant feelings and thoughts.
I did like seeing the VIP view of the new store/apartment from Tyson's POV and then with Rain and Quinton. I liked feeling/experiencing how Tyson's father raised him in regards to females in the community and this hidden witch. It did give me a better feeling for Tyson, so in that regards it accomplished its goal.
I will say the editing in this one was tough sometimes because I am used to this author's flow and small number of errors. The version I had (the boxset set of the novellas) had a ton of them which kept taking me out of the story unfortunately. I totally understand missing a couple, all books have that. This was just more than normal and some sentences I had to reread a couple times to understand what was being said. That and the redundancy was the reason for knocking it down from a 4 to a 3 star rating.

This was so much more tolerable to read because somehow the quality of writing improves a tiny bit when Ariel is not the narrator. Still needs to be edited, though, like every other installment. I enjoyed finally having Tyson's perspective, but even with his moments with Ariel, I just cannot see what the guys like about her. In every single book so far, I've tried so hard to understand what it is, but I just don't get her appeal other than she's a female witch, in their age group, and attractive. She is so all over the place that I can't get a real read on her character, and after four books, that is really bad.
And I swear to God, if another evil character dies by falling and hitting their head, I am going to fucking scream. When it happened with Vivian, it was surprising, but also a little disappointing that she never got any comeuppance, but whatever. When it happened to Chucky in the last book, I just rolled my eyes. You couldn't have done something a little different?
Speaking of evil people, I'd also like to see some kind of closure with Annabell, because that whole solution was also very lackluster. I wasn't sure where Tyson's novella was going in terms of her situation, but it's not really addressed after the fact. Hopefully in the next one, it will be addressed with at least an aside about no one hearing from her again.

***Heads up that M/M is suddenly dropped into the storyline in Book #5. I don't have a problem with M/M, but I do have a problem with an author completely changing the course of a romance with no hint of potential M/M. It came completely out of left field and was handled so poorly that it broke through the already thin patience I had with this author that I stopped reading after that. Good luck getting through this mess. I'm only leaving my 2 stars for the interesting plot and for literally every other character but Ariel.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Oh Tyson!! I gotta admit the last book I was wondering what happened to my loveable man and then….BOOM you are back. I loved how you FINALLY opened up to Quint and Ariel about everything going on in that head of yours….sigh…..oh Tyson I so fell right back in love with you after this book. I think I needed to reconnect with you just as much as Ariel did after everything went down at the hotel between Annabelle and Chucky.
Tyson is such a great character and he feels so much for him family but after Annabelle destroyed his heart with her deceit and lies, he was never going to let anyone near his heart or his family for that matter. As much as he WANTS Ariel, he is scared outta his mind. He KNOWS she is sooo not like Annabelle BUT he is so scared and his heart just can’t take it anymore. The guilt of bringing Annabelle to his family and causing the harm she caused has destroyed him in so many way.
The scene with him and Uncle Quint in the store…omg my two favorites talking about feelings and emotions with each other about our girl…sigh…I mean how can it not melt your heart. Seeing Tyson so vulnerable but LORD ALMIGHTY seeing Quint that way too was eye opening. Those men are in love with our girl and are going to do anything they can to protect her, their coven and their new family.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
My heart goes out to Tyson. Although I was not very happy with him in the last book I have to say he is on the path to making me see the greatness in him. He is not without flaws I mean he did ask Arial to keep things from his brothers. He has so much guilt going on because he feels responsible for tearing his family apart. They mean everything to him and he would do anything to protect them. I love how we get to know why Tyson is the way he is.
Ever since the day Arial pulled them all into a dream their focus has been to treat her the best they can and protect her. I do like that we got to see behind Tysons walls because man can he toss them up fast. It is amazing the way the brothers are such a tightknit coven and only want what’s best for Arial. Then when you see how none of them get jealous of one another for spending time with Arial only makes me think so much more of them. They truly want and need Arial to love all of them.
The ending was the best with all of them together as a unit. I am so ready for more of these brothers and Arial. I enjoy learning more and more about these guys but I like that we find out about each one right along with Arial.

Another great instalment in the Ariel Kimber series by Mary Martel. However this book isn't told from Ariel's POV at all and is all Tyson. This is a really important book to read after you've finished book four, The Ties That Bind, as it gives great insight into just why Tyson has been behaving the way he has. I've got to be honest, I've had ambivalent feelings towards Tyson throughout the series so far and after TTTB those feelings had kind of turned to dislike. Why this book is so important is that you really get into Tysons head space, you understand just why he behaves the way he has and you understand the depth of his feelings not just for Ariel but for the rest of his coven.
What I really enjoy about this authors books is the way she really draws you into each character with her writing that you feel as if you are that character. Tyson really made me feel all the emotions that he was feeling and not only do I feel this is an important book in the Ariel Kimber series but it's also an enjoyable read. Five stars from me.

I really loved this novella, I loved getting inside Tyson’s head, I have loved Tyson since book one when he first yelled at Ariel in school (I know I am like the only person to feel this way and love Ty from the beginning).
Whilst reading this series I got the sense that Ty was a little broken but after reading this I see he is more broken than I thought and I really felt for Ty with everything he has been through and the way he has been acting towards everyone (being an a$$hole) is more understandable.
I love that the relationship between Ariel and Ty is starting to heat up and more to the next level.
I suggest that anyone who doesn’t like Tyson should read this novella to get a better understanding of Ty and the reason he acts the way he does, Mary Martel writes such brilliant characters that you can’t help but love them. This is best read after the fourth book in the series as there is some crossover from book four.

Yesssss, so happy Ty has redeemed himself!!! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved Tyson, but this book I finally got to see all the inner workings to his feelings for his family and especially Ariel! I loved being able to get to know him more because he can shut people off so easily. It was nice to see him let go and let loose. I got to know his feelings for his Uncle Quint, and see how much he loves him as a brother, an uncle, and as his family. I really loved the moments he talked about Ariel and how she is his everything. She makes him be better and connect with his family again. She fixes some broken pieces to his heart. I loved the ending chapters to this novella, and I hope Ty continues to grow his connection to his family in the next books! I absolutely loved this book, and I can’t wait for more Tyson, Ariel Kimber, and their family!!!

A little insight
Tyson lends his voice to Ariel's discovery and certain events we saw in Ties That Bind. It's entirely his POV and there are time jumps as it's focusing on certain things- not a linear sequencing. But I did enjoy the insights. And we see the coven start to come back together.
Some of the misogyny is unnerving, but they're trying to step back while still protecting her. The council, though, ew. Warnings for Annabelle. She's living with the council and trying to play broodmare. She's evil, and probably trying to control them, but that doesn't mean she isn't simply trying to control a situation she doesn't want to be in. Female witches live under thumbs. She knows s*x is a weapon and she's using what she has. Doesn't mean there isn't a huge ick factor for their treatment of her.

Great insight into Tyson's frame of mind!
Tyson hass never been one of my favorites in this series, but he was dangerously close to becoming an expendable character after The Ties That Bind with his attitude. Don't get me wrong, I love the jerks and cocky characters, but not the out and out douchebags (eg Quinton vs Tyson in this series). So for me, this book was NEEDED!
This novella provides so much needed insight into Tyson's frame of mind from start to finish. It hasn't elevated him into favorite status, but I now understand him and would be sad if he was killed off. He still has some work to do to be a favorite, but I now believe he is redeemable.
Can't wait for the next book!!!

Finally! I totally loved this story from Tyson’s perspective! It was short, sweet, to-the-point, and little bit on the naughty side!
I keep wondering why Tyson was pushing away his family and Ariel. I know that Annabelle was a huge part in how he was acting and feeling, but we finally get the whole story! Loved the parts about his dad and getting to know and understand Tyson a bit better and, for me, this novella moved the plot/storyline along. This was such a needed read!
Was good that Tyson was letting everything out, getting things and feeling out in the open between talking to Quint and Ariel. Those conversations were long overdue. I think now the coven can move forward and leave parts of the past – in the past!

This one is a added yummy to a already delicious series. The author will use this character to capture you into this world with what has been going on and going forward. Family has been and will be shown in this that it is more than blood. Tyson holds it close more than most. You will be given a route into the heart through the blood that flows in him. You will come to know him better than you know your own lol. Alittle also on the dark side with attitude you sometimes got frustrated with him but in this one it will switch up. Breath was blown into him in this one where he comes to life. This author has gone in a direction that keeps her novels fresh for each one you devour.

Filled in some blanks
So you definitely need to read the novellas in orders because they fill in some blanks in the story. I regret not reading this one in order with the main story. But definitely going to do it with the rest.
I'm not a fan of time jumps in a book, which this has a lot of, i think I would have preferred it more if I did a tandem read with this and book 4. Maybe if I ever read this series for a second time I will do that.
Not to say the book or series is bad, I did like this book and love the series. And I always do enjoy when you get the boys view, and this is all about Tysons and his views, and I really liked getting to know him better.

Oh my god, thank god!
This story is best read after the first 4, BUT reading this book first might make you not want to shake Tyson in frustration 😊 I needed this book, it gave insight into Tyson and made me feel bad for wishing he met an untimely fate when it was discovered he was meeting up with his ex and bringing Ariel along for the messy ride...
AND really the series is so good, Tyson’s story gives you something while patiently waiting for book 5, especially all the good feels at the end while he takes in the scene around him with his family!!!

Inside the mind of the first person to make Ariel feel uncomfortable at school but also made friends with her to protect her. Tyson has definitely had his emotions and everything all over the place from dealing with his crazy psychotic ex randomly messaging him, to trying to be there for his family. It’s a wild ride especially after he randomly buys a building which was a business his father use to take him to as a kid. Now it was all his and he might have regretted buying it on a whim but now it was his for his girl and he wasn’t sure what exactly to do with it.

I love this series.
I have to admit, Ty wasn't my favorite of the coven after the stunt he pulled with annabelle, but now he is giving quint Julian and dash a run for their money. I need a book for each boy in the series. Pretty please? Just maybe between each of the main books? Anyway, of you love the Ariel Kimber series, be sure to pick this one up. If you haven't read any of them, go pick up the first one. You won't regret it.

Mary Martel I love your writing!
Another great addition to this fantastic series, although Ty may not be my favorite out of the guys, he is still an amazing character and getting this view at his view of things makes me like him just that little bit more. Mary Martel has consistently done an amazing job with every character, plot twist, relationship milestone, and more and I can not wait for the next book in the series!

This novella is told from Tyson’s POV, and does revisit a few spots from previous books from Tyson’s POV. I liked seeing his perspective, but this also gave me an entirely new view of Tyson and his anger. He almost seemed more cold and harsher than I had previously seen him, and also more broken. I did like seeing his commitment and focus to his family and Ariel, and I really enjoyed his moments with Rain. :)

Couldn't put it down
This is Tyson's story on how he felt about all the events since meeting Ariel, and it was amazing!! This book was perfect here I can't wait to get thw views of the other guys but this was the perfect place for Tyson's. I loved him before but I think I just fell a little harder!

Would give more than five stars of i could!!!!!
If i could give this book more than five stars i would. I love all the Ariel kimber books, but what i loved about this one was you got more of an insight into Tysons frame of mind during the last book. The last book I was having a hard time liking Tyson but now I'm back to loving him again. I can not wait for the next book!!!!!

I absolutely love this series and I am thrilled beyond belief to see some of it through Tyson’s eyes, to get his side of things and to understand what he is feeling and what’s in his mind. I love getting all the main characters POV and so I am hoping for more of these novellas of the boys, I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to the next in the series

First off I love the Ariel Kimber series and this novella gave some awesome insight into Tyson's perspective of all of it. I liked seeing a different side of Ty. It also explained why her acts the way he does and has you seeing him in a different light. Great addition to the Ariel Kimber line up and I can't wait for more.

Behind the scenes
I loved the look from tyson's perspective. I went from thinking what is wrong with him to ahhh ok that makes sense. Anyone who is a fan of the series definitely needs to read this installment.... things are getting a little more friendly Ariel.. squeee ! Yes!

Wonderful
This was an amazing insight to Tyson, I really enjoyed reading about his thoughts and felling, he is such a deep thinking character and it's good to finely see what happens in his brain. Tyson is thoughtful even when he is being a jerk, and I like that. I am excited for the next book, can't wait to see what happens next.

So disappointed
This isn't so much a story as a rewrite of a few scenes from his perspective. There's no flow, it just jumps. I stopped reading about a third of the way through. I love this series so I'm really disappointed.

Loved it
This story, told by Tyson, one if the guys, was absolutely fantastic. You get a glimpse into a young male's psyche. It was fun to read. I love this series and hope for more soon.

I definitely feel like I understand Tyson’s motivations now. It wasn’t that I disliked him before but he caused so much drama for literally no reason. Also that dreamscape... hope that’s explained further on in the books.

The only and only kind hearted tough Tyson
I have loved Tyson from the beginning. Tyson is the bad boy lover everyone loves. This short is perfect for him. I love That I got to see what was going on through Tysons eyes.
