Sometimes, when I really think about it, I can almost feel the way the breeze felt against my skin that day. How it washed over me, cooling my heated skin.
I remember counting the minutes it took to get to my boyfriend's house. Twenty-two, but it took twenty-three that day. Maybe the extra minute was a warning.
One I didn’t heed, of course.
I wanted love. It’s all I wanted. I would have done anything for it. It made me an easy victim.
Tell me I'm pretty here, hug me there and I was a puppet on his string. He pulled and pulled until he asked me to do the one thing I absolutely could not do.
It broke me to tell him no. Tore me up. I went over to his house that day to try and find a way to make it up to him. To fix what I broke.
Minute nineteen.
Cool breeze. Sunshine. Hope for love, fear I ruined my chance at it by being disobedient.
Minute twenty.
Black. One minute was all it took for Sage Briar-Rose to cease to exist.
To shatter her.
This is the story of how I lost myself. The story of how my naive search for love left me shattered.
Trigger Warning: This book deals with very sensitive subject matter so if you are triggered easily, I would choose one of my other books. Also, this book is part one of two. It doesn't end on a total cliffhanger, but part two is the completion of the story and comes next month.
I anticipated for the release of this book. I started reading it but I couldn’t continue after the 13th chapter. Although it was so well written, It was too much for me, I couldn’t tolerate any more of all that abuse and had a really hard time. I should have taken more consideration of the writer’s trigger warning... BUT it kept messing with my mind...so later I picked it up and carried on with the rest chapters - which thankfully were not that harsh.
Despite of all the above, Bry Ann delivered an amazing and world-shaking story which captivated me with its soul power, strength and realism. If you decide to read “Shattered”, you ride or die....
OMG I don't think I have every finished a book this fast before in my entire life. I was scrolling through amazon yesterday and saw that this book was newly released and decided to give it a chance without reading the synopsis(so risky of me lol). I finished this book in one sitting, it took me about three hours to finish it. I loved everything about this book, it was beautifully written. I will warn you guys that there are some triggering issues in this book that may not be suitable for everyone to read.
I don't to spoil anything so I will say as much as I can without giving too much away. Sade is a 16 year old girl who is in a relationship with an older man, Sty, who gives her the love she seeks out for from her parents. One day while walking to her boyfriends house something happens to her that changes her life completely. I know this isn't much as to what happens, but this is all I can give about the story line. Shattered was written in the best way possible, nothing happened too fast that you lost track. All the characters in this book were great.
Honestly this year hasn't been to me in term of the books I've been reading. Sure I've read some good books, but most of them were dull or boring. This book really has redeemed this year for me. Everyone should read this book.
Wow Wow Wow my first read by this author and it won't be my last. A truly tragic gut renching book yet the determination from Sage carried me through it. This book was written in like two halves, first your living the nightmare with Sage and then the recovery with Nix. What I liked more than anything was the rape scenes not being glorified or elaborated on. Poor Sage went through enough and it was not needed at all. Loved the instant connection with Tammy and Pamela two more girls who endured the rath of Sty, Z and Marcus. What I hated was how much I enjoyed (loved) this book so much, it makes me feel I'm not right in the head to feel this way about such a book. I really hope Sage finds her true love and happiness. Can't wait for book 2 it can't come soon enough.
This book! This book is amazingly, awesomely beautiful!!! This book shattered me. It was heart breaking and awesome. It made me cry, and be angry, but I loved it. The subject of this book is sooo difficult to read, to stomach that such things happen in real life, but, alas, it happens to much. Poor Sage... That little brave girl had to endure unspeakable because one man couldn't hanlde refusal well. She is defiant, fierce woman who had such a bad experience, that she shatteres, close herself, but her spirit will never be shattered! Nix....oh.... Nix is not a man who shows his gentleness or kindness to everyone, but he is a man with a good heart. He's just been beat down himself and knows that in order to survive and keep anyone that matters to him safe, he has to bow to his father's demands.
Sage is a lonely, wealthy teenager, starved of love and affection from her parents. Parents who realise too late that they have let her down. Sage turns to her boyfriend for love but instead finds herself kidnapped and sold to traffickers by him. Nix is working for his father Aaron Marketta and comes across Sage. He can't save her immediately though and she is thrust deeper into the dark world of abuse. By the time Nix finally saves her, she is broken, can he bring her back?? And can Sage save Nix so they can heal each other. I can't put it to words my feeling for this book. Heart wrenching, palm sweating, a ton of tissues and this is just book one!!! I need book two soon! If you have read Bry Ann's Rose and Thorn series then you will already be aware of Nix and Sage. You don't have to read that series to enjoy this story but if you haven't read them you are missing out!

This book shattered me. It was heart wrenching and awesome. It made me cry, it made me cringe, and it made me angry, but I loved it. For a story that is about a very difficult subject, it was written so well. It pulled at my heartstrings in so many places and I related to Sage in some situations. I felt her want for any sign of love and to feel like she was worth it and wanted by someone. Everyone needs to feel like they are wanted or needed in life to feel like they matter.
I love that Nix is such a gentle soul and shows Sage the kindness she needs to feel safe. Nix is not a man who shows his gentleness or kindness to everyone, but he is a man with a good heart. He's just been beat down himself and knows that in order to survive and keep anyone that matters to him safe, he has to abide by his father's demands.
I read the Roses & Thorns series and loved the characters in that series. When we hear about Sage in that series, it's hard to believe that she is a woman who is strong and sassy, but this book really shows who Sage is and I love her just as much as I do the women in the Roses & Thorns series. I hope to eventually read a story where Sage meets those women in person and her real strength shines. She is strong, funny, and sassy, and most of all, she is a survivor. She cares fiercely for the women she meets in Shattered and proves that she will do whatever she can to help them. For a girl who never felt love, she loves fiercely and whole hearted.
Thank you, Bry Ann, for writing this book and sharing Sage with us. I cannot wait for Nix's story. I give this story a 5 star review and highly recommend it to anyone who likes a story of survival, strength, and determination. Be warned though, this book is dark and does have triggers. I can't wait for Nix's story.
So let me be honest here… I don't like sad books, I try very hard to avoid books that I know are going to tear me apart; but when a favorite author writes one I do my very best to put aside my issues and read it. That is what happened to me with this story. I did not want to read it, I did not want to feel the characters pain or emotions, I DID NOT want to cry; yet I did, all these things. And I am so glad I made it through. This book is… WOW, just WOW.
This story revolves around a very difficult, dark and not well understood topic. It's hard to read because the author knows her stuff and she made this book realistic. Not worry though there is a HEA and it is worth the darkness it takes to get there.
I am not going to give a brief description, you can get that from the blurb, but I will say this book is heartbreaking and beautiful and so very much worth the read. The characters are amazing and have become some of my all time favorites. Take a chance, this story will enlighten you and stay with you for weeks. I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
This book was perfectly written. The author showed us the inside of every women worst nightmare without sharing to many details to make it, kind of bearable. BUT this didn’t stop me from crying, dying a little inside and feeling shattered for Sage and the others...who had been caught in all this at such a young age. In fact, I would say it’s even worst because then you mind imagine things that you wouldn’t even know possible.
I enjoy reading dark stories, but I am not sure we can put this story in this category...even though the beginning can be hard for some person, you need to keep reading to get to know the « after » of all this. It’s not all pink and flowers, but you will see how the mind works.
I loved Sage and Nix story. They fit well together and nothing bothered me. I loved how life made Nix so mature and understanding. I can’t tell you how happy I was to finally see the book on my kindle. Feels like I had been waiting a lifetime to read HER, HIM. Now I can’t wait to get the second part.
Wow this book was unbelievable tragic yet uplifting my heart was just breaking for sage and wow I have no words right now great book great story can't wait for book 2,
Wow wow i absolutly loved this book!!!! I love both of them...and Nix omg i melted for him he is so special gosh, i adored him . The first part its sad and unfortunatly very ugly and brutal...but then all gets so so better and good. Now i will read the part 2 and i know already i will not put the book down even if its already 2 am lol 💜✌🏻💜✌🏻💜✌🏻💜✌🏻 i hope nothing to bad happens to them in the next book tough
The fact that this story happens to real people makes my heart hurt. My biggest issue wasn't in the content but rather on a certain aspect of how it was written. Knowing that Sage was shutting down in regards to what was happening to her was more than plausible but when she talked about herself as someone who needed Sage kept away it became disjointed. It made it seem like they were split personalities instead of the same woman. I could totally see writing the character as lethargic or catatonic but having her talk like this didn't offer it the fluidity I was looking for. I'd have rather had someone else discuss how she was doing as she struggled through the horrors she endured and came out the other side.
Just my preference. I'm still heartbroken reading the acknowledgment and knowing that a real person endured this.
Heart breaking, cruel and twisted. I found this very difficult to read at times, knowing it was based on real life.....how anyone can endure that is beyond me! But I'm glad I persevered, despite my blubbering. Bry Ann has a true talent to be able to write about such darkness, while at the same time giving us a beautiful story of survival, strength and love. Highly recommended.
This book was a hard read at times so I know it must have been hard to write at times too. Such a good book for a subject most wouldn't touch. Can't wait to start the 2nd book
I will not speak on plot points or spoilers. This book will have your heart shattering from the start. It is a powerful & engaging read. About to dive into the second book now.
