The Not-So-Grim Reaper

Rate this book
Because death should be a laughing matter!

Already down on his luck, Claudio Chillwell has a day that goes from bad to worse - he dies on his way to a job interview. A chatty grim reaper named Gee feels horrible about the embarrassing way that Claudio slipped off this mortal coil and decides to give him a second chance at living.

However, the Dead Council frowns upon necromancy, and there are consequences for those who contravene the rules. Gee ends up on the run and seeks sanctuary at Claudio's home. The suits are having none of it, though, and track down Gee and his new human friends, promising to torment them with hellhounds, soap operas, and bad haircuts.

Will Claudio and Gee survive the bureaucracy and live to tell the tale?

WARNING: This book combines the outrageous quirk of Deadpool with the adventure of Bill & Ted. Your stomach may hurt afterwards.

This is a 3.5 star book. It reminded me of a Christopher Moore book. Funny and silly. The ending was a bit loose for my tastes. But maybe there will be more from Gee and friends! If you are looking for a fun book, this is a great one!

Disclaimer: Can't rate 'cos I edited, but I'll say this much: If you're looking for the lovechild of Bill & Ted mixed in with a little Sir Terry Pratchett, then you won't go wrong with this epic misadventure.

This is one of those tales that will make mincemeat of your expectations, because if you think you know that you'll get when Reapers, TV jingles, Hell-hounds and corporate machinations are brought together, then I ask you to privately me send the details of the medication you're on.

The tale kicks off when the main character goes for a job interview and dies. How he dies, what happens after he dies, and who he meets (and why) is the roller coaster you'll be strapped into. You'll visit a torture room, a creepy kleptomaniac-mother, and a house full of dogs, to give you but a hint. And you'll laugh, and wince, and snort so hard that you'll wish you had a tissue nearby.

But the tale isn't only funny - it also has a thoughtful soul and doesn't mind poking fun at itself. If you like fast-paced, crazy, funny tales which look deeper into the hilarity of being human, you'll love this. I did, and I'm looking forward to more adventures with the not-so-grim Reaper.

First of all, let me say well-done! This book far exceeded my expectations as I tend to stick to female authors. That being said, this book was genuinely funny and had me roaring with laughter at times. The author weaves a tale so fantastic yet believable and I couldn't help being a little bit sad when it ended. Nice one!

I loved this book! It's not often that a book makes me laugh out loud, but this one did. It's funny, clever, and very hard to forget. I read the ebook and cannot wait to buy it when it comes out in print. I will definitely read more from Sergio.
