Art historian Dan Fox is driven by a fascination with ancient relics. His search for antiquities has led him to some of the most dangerous places in the world. But when he is tapped for membership in the occult organization known as the Mephisto Club, his obsession turns into a hunger for supernatural power.

Now, the Mephisto Club has tasked him with retrieving a machine known as the Frankel Device. Lost after WW2, this mysterious invention has been linked to a web of horrifying deaths. Rumors say it grants immortality to those who endure its sinister effects. But there is a cost…

Dan and his ally Natasha scour the English countryside for the device, guided by the spirit of Dan’s dead lover, Miranda. But they quickly realize they are not alone in their search. A government paranormal organization is hot on their tail, with orders to destroy the Mephisto Club at any cost. And dark, powerful forces beyond man’s understanding have taken an interest in Dan’s quest for supernatural power.

With immortality at his fingertips, Dan must decide how far he is willing to go in his quest for power. Using the machine could make him a god…

But it could cost him his eternal soul.

The final instalment in this fascinating series sees Dan searching out the last artifact to gain entrance into the disturbing Mephisto Club. So far, he has battled a Kraken like creature, a giant spider God and now has to travel into the murky depths of both the earth itself and his own mind. The story is once again easy to get into and fast paced, becoming increasingly more graphic throughout, unlike the previous two books. There are lots of paranormal events entwined with the usual historical / mythological details that hint back to some very dark times, and Dan is kept guessing if it is worth the effort but ultimately enticed to keep going on, right up until the thrilling climax. This third book is probably my favourite of the three, being almost Lovecraftian in certain aspects of the story. The seeds of temptation are sown for all and it's up to them as to if they will succumb and if they will fall.

Great conclusion

Great conclusion to the series. Very interesting concept that played out there at the end, a couple actually. If you enjoy a little mystery and danger with a dash of violence and romance- this is the book (series) for you!

A good finish to what was a good series. Dan looking for the third item to get him into the club. He finds it but there is much going on in the backdrop. Does he really want to be in the club after all he learns? Is mortality something he really wants?
