The first half of this books is really interesting and gives a new perspective on illness, health and how your body works. I would have liked a little bit more development of certain ideas like the fact that we need light (in a spiritual sense) in order to stay healthy, but overall, it was an enlightening topic with several 'ah ha!' moments.
The second half of the book was a bit disappointing. The first part mentioned several times that the second part would be all about practical to-do approaches that you can implement in your own life to improve your health and well-being. However, the first two to three chapters of the second part continued to expand on the 'theory' section of part 1. When we actually got to the how-to stuff, it felt a bit generic (admittedly, you cannot go into too much specificity as everyone has different requirements, which the author admits). However, the stuff that she mentions, especially the diet section, is very obvious and generic (e.g. if you are intolerant of or allergic to gluten, then you should cut wheat from your diet). She also talks a lot about the importance of hydration, but the only pearls of wisdom that she provides is that we should drink 2-2.5l of water per day, that caffeine and other stimulants are bad for you, and that you should not eat before going to bed because this stresses the body. Overall, I think a lot more could have been done with the nutrition section (e.g. the benefits of green and white tea, as well as fennel in aiding digestion, as well as other natural antioxidants like rooibos).
The cleansing methods section started off interesting and I will actually be trying the Epsom salt bath after reading up on it on other sources. However, the idea of performing an anema at home without medical supervision conjured up images of it going wrong, and the suggestion that using your own fermented urine to help cleanse your liver sounds very much like something out of a Medieval medical manual.
Overall, the book offers interesting insights, but I would take a common sense approach to her try-at-home remedies.
If you're interested in a truly holistic (as in the all-encompassing universe) approach to health do yourself a favour and read this book! Connecting our physical well-being to all aspects of life means addressing real causes instead of curing only symptoms. The book describes in the most amazing way how e.g. fear affects us and can be dealt with on a cellular level. "We are vibrational beings and we need to vibrate in harmony with our universe if we are to fulfil our true potential. It is time for us to come to understand what it means to be in resonance so that we can beat and pulse together instead of living in this world that we have created where everything is in opposition."
This book, in my mind contains some rather far out thinking on the ways and reasons for our illnesses. I found it difficult at times to grasp some of the processes discussed. Also, although I am open to the fact we are at our most fundamental level just energy and vibration I still found some of the reasons for illnesses too far removed from current medical thinking along with some of the exercises to return the body back to health. I am not saying they are wrong or anything. That is for other readers to decide. It's just that I personally struggle with many of them. I would need further in depth explanations/proof before taking them onboard. I gave, maybe a tad harshly, 2 stars to this book because it and it's beliefs does not resonate with me. Someone else may find it an invaluable and very helpful addition to their bookshelf. I would however recommend this book to a discussion group to make for lively debate into the pros and cons if alternative vs medical healing.
Literally incredible and life changing. This is the kind of book (though I have read no other like it) that makes you think about every single aspect of your life. It makes you think about the very start of your life, how you were conceived, whether you were breast fed, what vaccinations you had, and links everything together to show why you have the illnesses that you do. It really made me think 'god, OBVIOUSLY' to things that help our bodies to dance naturally with the universal rhythms which we aren't taught about in our kind of culture. Everyone should seriously read this and change their life around, it shouldn't just be for people who 'are interested in holistic health'.
