Fantastic--easily the best book I've read on how to get to a healthy weight, increase fitness level, and be able to stay that way forever without dieting or eliminating entire food groups. The sections on sleep, stress management, and mindset are particularly good. And her workouts are no joke! As a longtime runner I felt like I was in pretty good shape--until I started doing these workouts. They are much harder (for me) than running miles and miles, but I love them because I can do them at home, with no equipment, in the same amount of time it takes me to run three miles. (And I don't have to run in the snow or freezing rain.) My entire body is stronger and more toned, and I feel much better overall since starting the program. Thanks Polly for the suggestion!!
I really like the Louise Parker approach - supposedly more of a lifestyle rather than a 'diet'. Her recipes are delicious & there's some real winners in this one - though it's a lot of work to blend all the smoothies, chop the salads, cook up the stir fries - all using a broad variety of ingredients. The recipes often use ingredients better found in England or in a more sophisticated grocery scene than mine (nup, no sign of pomegranate seeds here) so you have to translate. The books assume a reasonable level of knowledge so aren't for newbies who don't know their way around calories - this is all about calories except teaching by portion control instead, which is more practical. While not lacking in common sense, this is coming from & for the Kensington set so lifestyle hints can be intimidating - I barely understood what her beauty routine meant! However, I still love it & it's my number 1. diet (not a diet) book
Well I'm on a roll here, my sister has been buying up weight loss books for me (hmm, I love her dearly readers) and this is another one of them. This one is a 6 week programme by Louise Parker and claims to hep you reshape your body and change your habits for life, well I am liking the title.
Now the first hurdles are the fitness routines as I cannot make those moves so am stymied at the start, there are no alternatives given, so assume that you are meant to have a certain level of fitness to begin with. It seems to be more of a lifestyle book than a dietary book. Ah hang on there are shedloads of helpful recipes in the latter part of the book. This may be worth a try, but I've just come across the The Glucose Goddess book which aims to lower your blood sugars in one month. Now which one will I try first. I could be spending the next 10 weeks on different diets! I've just read a text from my beloved sister saying that she has bought me some scales. Sigh.
This book inspired me to start this good habit of eating right, exercising and sleeping well. Louise is so encouraging and made the whole programme achievable, removing the need to feel guilty when you stumble along the way. Perfection is an illusion Love her recipes, too!
