I was drawn to Adventures for a Lifetime by its stunning cover. I adore travel books anyway, and the idea of adventure travel appeals very much....although apart from winter sports, I prefer my more extreme travel to be from my armchair! I would love to try some of the ideas suggested though, and this book almost makes it seem a possibility (for some!).
Adventures of a Lifetime is a first hand glimpse into extreme travel globally. From sea kayaking to forest hikes, isolation on a desert island, mountaineering, and everything in between; Stafford takes us along for the ride. For those non armchair travellers who wish to embark on their own real life adventure of a lifetime, there’s hints and tips, and the author ‘grades’ each adventure in terms of extreme-ness! A real insight into adventure trips of a lifetime, and a book that can be dipped in and out of with beautiful photographic images throughout. It would be perfect as a cool coffee table book to delve into, dream, plan, do - or just pretend to. I loved it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a good read for those seeking to challenge themselves and for those seeking real adventure. Ed is great at giving an overview of the various options, risks involved and what's needed physically and mentally. My only criticism is it doesn't go into too much detail on any of the various suggestions so it won't satisfy those seeking a good adventure story or story of survival that Ed is so great at doing in his TV shows and other book ("Walking the Amazon" ).
It's like a suggestion packed travel guide for the fearless, budgetless few who have the time and energy to do all the crazy things you wish you could do. Wouldn't recommend it as an audiobook but I imagine the print version would be quite engaging if you can flick back and forth between bucket list options. Bottom line? Get out of your comfort zone and live a little. Whether that takes you to the top of K2, or just joining your local ramblers if that's realistic. Make a memory.
Not the book I thought that I was getting more a collection of challenges and what is involved than tales of people doing them. But very interesting and useful from that perspective.
