The Dark Witch #1

The Dark Witch: Time for Evil Doing

Rate this book
Need some evil doing? Well, ficketty feck, you've come to the right place.

Amura is an evil witch. She hates mornings, and school, and the basketball captain, and that annoying Susan girl, and even that hot guy, Master (especially him). Oh, and in her spare time she tries to cook up a bit of pestilence to unleash on the human race.

She would have been quite happy quietly doing wrong, but then a threat to the covens quickly escalates into a threat to all life on Earth. To save herself, Amura must save the world. Of course, being a hero isn't really a dark witch thing, nor is saving life. She's already in trouble with the coven - how will her sisters view this latest twist of fate? And if they knew whom she was sleeping with, well, that would be it, she'd be for the knife. Life has become a bit difficult, to say the least, but Amura will just have to suck it up and kill anything that gets in her way.

This is Book 1 of "The Dark Witch" series. If you enjoy this, check out Book 2: "The Dark Witch and the Ruby Slippers".

Hi I'm Tabby,

I'm the author of the Dark Witch trilogy available on Amazon as e-copies only, for the moment. First thing you should know about me is that I'm actually writing under a pen name. That being said, I can't reveal too much, but what I do write here is part of the real me.

I was born in Australia but I currently live in the small North American city of Thunder Bay, where having four to six feet of snow in the front yard during winter isn't unusual. I've two little terriers and prefer the summer to the snow. This is a lovely area when it's green. It's pretty when it's white too, but cold, and I'm not a fan of cold.

The third book in the Dark Witch series has been written, and has just come out!

I have to admit that this was one serious case of judging a book by its cover. I mean, these are amazing covers and they were made by the author herself! I simply had to get the books. (Here I am talking about newest covers available on Amazon.) Fortunately, the author writes as great and as original as she makes the covers, so the book was amazing as well.
I don't even know where to start. The writing is unusual, witty, entertaining and fresh. It is different from anything I have ever read before, which I like very much. And although there are some quite serious events occurring in the book, the author found a humorous way to deal with most serious of issues. Additionally, there are shifted perspectives on good and bad or evil, which adds to the wittiness of the story.
The characters were pretty amazing as well. The author put a lot of effort into intricacies, so the characters spring to life from the pages. Amura is simply amazing and lovable, as much as she is trying to be evil (and that's a lot). I couldn't help myself, I just loved her from her grumpy page one. Then there are Gil, Susan and Pulania, very entertaining little group. Of course, there is an array of other characters and they are all interesting, some more evil than others, and there are even some good characters.
The plot is another interesting and unusual thing about this book. There are multiple parts of the plot that seamlessly come together. The author is effortlessly following several different parts of the plot, all involving Amura, and all requiring her attention. Amura is dealing with everything that comes to her immediately, on the spot. Additionally, there are so many twists and turns, and action, and, and... In other words, this book is a page turner that doesn't give you much room to breathe. And while you're trying to catch your breath, you do it with a big smile on your face. I absolutely loved everything about this book, from the cover to the last page.
I immediately started the next book, The Dark Witch and the Ruby Slippers.

This was a fun, fanciful read. Amura is a member of a dark witch coven but has been having a bit of dry spell in the evil workings department. She and her bestie Pulania need to come up with something dastardly to stay in the good graces of their esteemed leader, the Supreme Evality who has threatened to sacrifice them at the year-end ceremony coming up. I enjoyed the storyline and how Amura would attempt to turn some good deeds into seeming evil for her coven leader. The only part I didn’t like was some of the magic system. I’ve never cared for the idea that clothing could appear from nothing. I feel like they should at least have some raw material or something. But it is a wonderful story none-the-less. It’s full of intrigue and a few twists to keep you turning pages.

Secrets, mystery, laughter, and mayhem all wrapped up into one fun read. Amura and her friends work together as a team quite well with a little help from a few unexpected people. This is has a mixture of everything thrown into the cauldron and a bit more, very fun and edge of your seat, read. I definitely can't wait to see what more Tabitha Scott has in store with this story.

An enjoyable read for the holidays

An amusing tale with a fun aspect to dark magik, great for a teen to read or a mature reader like myself looking for a fun read. I'm left wanting to know more about Master and Amura.

This book is a great light, entertaining read. It's fast paced, easy to read, and the editing is clean. The voice is lively, and spunky! If you want something that won't make you feel heavy-hearted, or leave you thinking deeply about life, this is the perfect book. I can imagine cozying up with it and a glass of spiced wine when I'm in the Halloween mood and "Hocus Pocus" isn't yet playing on constant repeat.

Things I loved:

-This was fast paced, easy to read. No stumbling over type-os, no long drawn out, overly wordy descriptions.
-The story had a lot of plot points and movement to it.
-The main character's voice was unique - very recognizable as hers.
-This story set up for readable sequels without giving a "now you have to read on or go crazy" cliffhanger.

**3.5 stars**

If you like the title, I think you'll appreciate this little evil romp of a story! I personally loved the idea of a dark witch being the MC, and this book delivers a bit of evilness in a fun way. There's much more to it than that though. The pace is reasonable and the characters (even the side characters) are quite enjoyable. There's character growth and action throughout. It feels like a completely developed world though not everything is explained - I assume more is revealed with each book.

There are some formatting and editing errors. However, you'll find that with most books and they can be ignored. The one that did annoy me was a character's name being written as Mrs. Lesley and Mrs. Leslie.

Bottom line, it's a fun read and I'll try the next one!

Dark and hilarious

Amura, the Dark Wittch has one of those voices that gets into your head, a bit like an ear worm. But, Scott has given her an engaging irreverence that makes her kick arse combination of evil-doer, good-doer page turning. The author also slips in a little history, a little mythology and throws in some mean girls (on both sides of the fight), so that the plot takes a few unusual turns.
I enjoyed the mix of British and US sites and totally agree it's worth coming to Australia for the coffee.
A fun, slightly gruesome read.

Actually two and a half stars. I would catagorize this book as Young Adult, and as such I am quite few grey hairs outside it's target audience. Having said that, it was entertaining. I quite like the premise that black witches are just like the rest of us and have to meet performance targets with their bosses. If you are looking for a lighthearted read, look no further.

Great bit of fun reading

What can really say about these books? Sure they're not deep or have complex plots but they're a joy to read! Isn't that why we read fiction in the first place? For enjoyment? Well these book definitely delivered!

Good read

A nice solid fun read with a main character that doesn't take herself too seriously. Nice combinations of myths and legends too

This one was quite hilarious and enjoyable. Sometimes I got the feeling it should actually be part II of a series, because there was a lot of stuff going on that clearly had a history, but no explanation - the explanation wasn't needed to understand the story, I would just have liked to have it. What bugged me more was the lack of proofreading. Anyway, it's a fine book with a lot of laughs.
