Heart Trouble

This is not totally awful, just ... uneventful, bland and a bit unreal.
The fact that I have forgotten the names of both MCs in the course of a couple of hours says it all.

This was a very sweet book with just a little angst. I felt that Ben had given up on love awfully quick after his last boyfriend, but I knew he’d come around. I wish I knew what happened to Zane, but maybe that’s in a latter book. I can usually rely on D J Jamison to write something I enjoy.

But the tall, lean, blonde, blue-eyed man crashed and burned.
In the ER, Nurse Hotness Ben, handsome, with brown hair and eyes,
cares for his road rashed leg, and each man's drawn to the other.
They agree to have a one-nighter, but of course that is not enough. Ben agrees to help Gage do the stunts, but they change them up a bit so bodily injury isn't needed, like knitting, cooking and Karaoke. As they get to know each other, stories are exchanged,
and the conversations seem real and flow well.
Insecurities and trust issues run deep for both, and the road blocks need to be overcome. We get great sexy times and it's "best sex ever" for both men !
There is much going on with helping a student, family, and friends. Loved the nosey friends they each had, Alex and Chloe.
Bruiser...I can't forget him !

Se avete voglia di una lettura dolce e romantica e per di più sexy e non banale, questo libro fa per voi. L’autrice D.J. Jamison è riuscita infatti a creare una storia simpatica e briosa che si legge volentieri e in scioltezza grazie a una perfetta caratterizzazione dei due protagonisti, che ci conquistano per la loro dolcezza, simpatia e anche per le loro insicurezze e le loro titubanze. Al tempo stesso il libro affronta tematiche importanti come l’omofobia e la violenza domestica in maniera lieve, ma che porta comunque a riflettere. Il tutto condito con uno stile fresco e divertente proprio della commedia romantica che fa ben sperare per gli altri volumi della serie, tutti di ambito ospedaliero, che arriveranno prossimamente. In questo primo volume conosciamo un affascinante infermiere di nome Ben e un insegnante di giornalismo alternativo di nome Gage. Il loro incontro è particolare in quanto Gage finisce al pronto soccorso dopo un incidente in moto occorsogli mentre sta sperimentando una delle attività per la rubrica per cui scrive. Appena viene affidato a Ben per le cure del caso, si sente subito attratto da quell’uomo sexy e dolce e cerca in tutti i modi di conquistarlo. Da qui si dipana tutta la storia che alterna momenti divertenti, dolci e sexy a momenti più sofferti e seri. Ben è l’infermiere perfetto che tutti vorremmo incontrare in un pronto soccorso: è simpatico professionale, dolce e molto empatico. Si prende cura dei suoi pazienti dando tutto se stesso ed è adorato dai colleghi. È un uomo buono e generoso e ha un gran cuore che però è stato più volte ferito dai suoi ex, che l’hanno sempre lasciato per cercare qualcosa di meglio. Proprio per questo è molto insicuro nella sfera affettiva e ha paura di aprirsi di nuovo all’amore per timore di essere ancora ferito e lasciato. Quando incontra Gage se ne sente attratto anche lui ma è molto diffidente, e quando Gage ci prova con lui inizialmente lo rifiuta in quanto crede che sia uno scavezzacollo come il suo ultimo ex. Gage però è determinato a conquistarlo perché non solo lo apprezza come professionista, ma anche perché vede in lui un uomo forte e capace di dare amore, deve solo convincerlo a fidarsi di lui. Per questo cercherà in ogni modo di creare occasioni per stare insieme e convincerlo che è degno di fiducia. Ma qui c’è un ma perché anche Gage ha le sue insicurezze e le sue paure e rischierà di buttare tutto all'aria per gelosia e paura. Ci saranno però una sua amica e un suo studente che riusciranno a fargli capire che sta sbagliando. Non vi svelo altro per non togliervi il piacere della lettura, ma spero che lo studente possa ritornare come personaggio di un prossimo volume.

Audiobook reviewBen Griggs knows what he wants and what he doesn’t want. And one thing he most definitely is not interested in is daredevils. Working as a nurse in the ER, along with some past experience, has made him appreciate safe. His only problem Is to get his body on the same page as his brain, because he can’t seem to get a particular patient from his mind.
Gage Evans teaches a class in journalism at college. He’s also writing a series on trying something new, something different. Unfortunately those new experiences seem to land him in the ER with one injury or another. He’s drawn to the nurse taking care of him and does everything he can to get Ben to go out with him.
There is a lot of back and forth between these guys and entirely too much drama for my tastes. It felt out of proportion and mostly unnecessary. I get that Ben was hurt in the past, that he had trust issues, but it was too much and I found myself kind of screaming at him to get over it (and himself) already.
In general there isn’t a lot going on in this book. It’s pretty straight forward with no real detours. Boy meets boy, instant attraction, spend some time together (in and out of bed), que some commitment drama and all it entails, make up and then live happily ever after. Sometimes that’s all you need from a book, sometimes you need those detours – it all depends on what you want and expect from your next listen.
Kenneth Obi isn't among my favourite narrators, but there are times he really nails it. That's why I keep coming back to his books. When listening to Heart Trouble there were a few things that got to me and sadly not in a good way; the strange intonations and sentence structure, and not to mention mixing up names. At the last one I actually did go back and listen to it again just to make sure it wasn't in my imagination.
This was a mostly sweet romance. I've seen others mention this wasn't the strongest in the series so I will continue on with the next one as there is potential for something really good here.

Krankenpfleger Ben hat die Nase voll von Adrenalinjunkies und Bikern. Zu dumm nur, dass der attraktive Patient Gage ganz offensichtlich in diese Kategorie fällt. Nach einer schmerzhaften Trennung ist Ben von diesen Kerlen wirklich geheilt und hält Gage auf Distanz, als dieser zu flirten versucht und auch noch um ein Date bittet.
Dabei ist Gage alles andere als leichtsinnig. Er ist Lehrer und hat die Gelegenheit eine Kolumne zu schreiben, wo er verschiedene Aktivitäten vorstellt und eben beschreibt. Ein mißglückter Ausflug mit Bikern hat ihn ins Krankenhaus gebracht. Viel passiert ist nicht und eigentlich ist mehr sein Stolz verletzt. Der hübsche Krankenpfleger geht ihm einfach nicht mehr aus dem Kopf, doch man trifft sich immer zwei Mal im Leben!
Teil eins der Hearts and Health Reihe ist sehr amüsant, flott und fluffig geschrieben. Ben hat so seine Erfahrungen mit Männern gemacht und nimmt erstmal eine Date-Pause. Ihm langt es und die letzte Trennung war alles andere als lustig. Doch Gage unterläuft seine Abwehr und zeigt sich ernsthaft interessiert, auch wenn Ben das einfach nicht sehen kann und will. Sein Mißtrauen und seine Unsicherheiten sind einfach zu groß.
Gage hat auch bislang nicht viel Glück mit Männern gehabt und gibt sich selbst die Schuld. Als Pflegekind hat er nur wenig Kontinuität in seinem Leben erlebt und glaubt, dass er zum Klammern neigt. Und das würde eben möglichen Partnern abschrecken. Gage merkt schnell, dass Ben einfach Zeit braucht. Doch Ben leistet sich auch ein paar Schnitzer, die Gage echt verletzen. Dabei spielt auch ein Student von Gage eine Rolle, was Gage selbst in eine Vertrauenskrise stürzt.
An sich hat mir die Geschichte sehr gut gefallen. Die Helden sind gut beschrieben, man erfährt genügend über ihre Vergangenheit um ihre Handlungen in der Gegenwart zu verstehen. Ben ist leider ein etwas sprödes Pflänzchen, das in manchen Szenen einfach nervt. Sein Vertrauensproblem ist echt riesig und wäre eigentliche in Fall für den Arzt. Neben Gage und Ben spielen auch Bens Arbeitskollegen, seine Mutter und Gages beste Freundin eine Rolle. Sie bringen immer wieder neue Impulse in die Geschichte und schaffen es auch immer wieder unsere Helden in Verlegenheit zu bringen.

Heart troubles was a nice story. Ben is a nurse, who has trust issues. Cage is a college teacher, looking for love. Their chemistry is nice.

I had a thing for Ben when I read about him in the last book Hard Press (Ashe Sentinel # 5). He was so sad at the end and I had so many pity with him. This book is about him. And what a hot male nurse he is. :3 <3
I liked that we got a great insight of this character. Ben's hesitance to date Gage at the beginning is well explained and you feel with him - but also Gage's pushing is really charming - you can't resist him ;) I really loved that we saw two guys very vulnerable and telling their feelings.
The book had a great balance between sweet and hot scenes and dramatical one. Especially the part with Zane and the misunderstanding the whole thing brought was a good climax. Another was at the end with Ben's mother. I had high sympathy with Zane and hope he'll find his happiness in one of the future books. He is such a charming minor character. He is also smart and nice, it would be a shame. :)
The erotic scenes between Ben and Gage were hot as hell, I could feel the passion in every line. But I was also very touched by Ben's vulnerability and his confessions - although they were only known by the reader first. In retrospect it makes totally sence why Ben is feeling this insecure and is only open for a short fling.
Though it gave a great insight of the guy's problem in giving trust. On the other hand we had Gage with his problems and his own troubled emotios and I guess Ben and Gage will fill each other's holes (yeah, pun intended ;) *smirk*) equally - they are great together and well balanced. :)
Another great and emotional book. 5 ouf of 5 stars... Highly remommended as well as the other 5 books of the series. :3

Ben è un infermiere del pronto soccorso ed è sempre stato attratto da uomini che amano il pericolo, soprattutto i motociclisti, e sempre trattato da “scopamico”.
Gage per contro è un insegnante di giornalismo, cresciuto da famiglie affidatarie; non ha mai vissuto realmente l’infanzia e l’adolescenza, quindi decide di scrivere una serie di articoli su delle esperienze mai sperimentate per spiegare ai lettori le emozioni che suscitano. Quindi andrà in moto, farà arrampicata, andrà sullo skate e via discorrendo, però… ecco… lui è un po’ un impiastro, infatti cade dalla moto e finisce al pronto soccorso, dove conosce Ben e… Cupido colpisce!
Si piacciono, solo che Ben ha deciso che il suo prossimo uomo dovrà essere una persona tranquilla, quindi l’insegnante è fuori dai giochi. Gage cerca di spiegargli di non essere così avventuroso ma ovviamente non viene ascoltato…
Gage si mette il cuore in pace, ma durante le prove sullo skate si re-incontrano. Ben capisce che l’altro non conduce una vita spericolata e si sta veramente solo limitando a condurre degli esperimenti. Per evitare un ennesimo ricovero decide di fare lui da cavia, così fissano una serie di appuntamenti per sviluppare gli articoli e provare i vari sport. Nel frattempo, cercano anche di conoscersi, ma c’è sempre l’imprevisto dietro l’angolo.
Racconto dolce, scritto con stile fluido e semplice, che tocca varie tematiche, come l’accettazione di un figlio gay, il sentirsi non desiderati e la paura di essere abbandonati, Heart Trouble è l’ideale per passare piacevolmente delle ore rilassanti e spensierate.

I greatly enjoyed this book because we got to see Ben's story after he was saddened from partying ways with Elliot in book 5! He is drawn to Gage but is worried about being broken and not deserving of happiness. Gage is intrigued about his connection with Ben and works hard to build on the connection and gain Ben's trust, since he has never really had a deep connection besides his best friend at work. Ben and Gage fall in deep but are walking on egg shells not knowing how to go to the next level in their relationship. There is a time where they part ways after being honest about their thoughts and feelings where they must look at themselves and see where their relationship can lead. I loved the ending. But I wish we had seen cameos of other character in the series.
I greatly enjoyed this book because we got to see Ben's story after he was saddened from partying ways with Elliot in book 5! He is drawn to Gage but is worried about being broken and not deserving of happiness. Gage is intrigued about his connection with Ben and works hard to build on the connection and gain Ben's trust, since he has never really had a deep connection besides his best friend at work. Ben and Gage fall in deep but are walking on egg shells not knowing how to go to the next level in their relationship. There is a time where they part ways after being honest about their thoughts and feelings where they must look at themselves and see where their relationship can lead. I loved the ending. But I wish we had seen cameos of other character in the series.

Only 2 stars because Ben was a complete and total asshole to Gage. I won't go into it because I don't want to sway anyone's feelings about the character before they read this. But, let's just say he was the cliched jerk with things in his past that he used as an excuse to treat Gage with no respect. He was so down right cruel with him in the beginning, I wanted to DNF the book. The only reason I didn't was because I was hoping the author would get away from the cliche and have Gage wise up and walk away for good with a hearty "fuck you" to Ben on his was out the door. But........
Anyway, Gage was a great guy and that's why it made it even easier to hate Ben.
I read the blurbs for the rest of this series and it appears that it's going to be the same trope repeated for the two other books I found. So, I won't be continuing this series.

Gage and Ben are a cute couple but the plot was just ordinary. I thought Ben was a little flaky and the flirting with Zane was just odd. Glad they worked it out in the end. Read this because I wanted to read Zane and Paul's story and it was a spin off from this book.

Fenici, questo libro è veramente bellissimo, ve lo consiglio.
La scrittura è piena di emozioni e anche l’ambiente circostante è descritto bene, la storia non scorre particolarmente veloce, però ti coinvolge appieno; non si fa mancare nulla, è anche umoristico, riesce a mettere in mostra il lato divertente dei protagonisti, non usa mai un linguaggio sopra le righe.
L’autrice sviluppa bene temi importanti, con le loro ripercussioni psicologiche; affronta le insicurezze che “brutte relazioni” vissute da giovani (e non solo) lasciano, si parla di amicizie, magari eccentriche, però queste mettono in luce il fatto che, anche se si è diversi, l’importante è riempire i vuoti dell’altro. Il fare Coming out con i propri genitori è un argomento affrontato pienamente e rivela che non sempre lo “svelare” la verità viene accettato bene, a volte ci sono ripercussioni grosse.
Anche aver passato l’infanzia tra varie famiglie affidatarie, lascia segni di insicurezza e la ricerca spasmodica di qualcuno da amare e essere amati è una conseguenza.
Ognuno dei protagonisti ha un’amica femmina che, con un carattere forte e giocoso, riesce a tenere a freno le fragilità dei ragazzi (mi piace quando gli uomini esternano i sentimenti).
Ora voglio parlarvi dei nostri protagonisti, Ben (l’infermiere schianto, come verrà chiamato da Gage) infermiere al pronto soccorso con il cuore infranto per colpa del suo ex (un motociclista) che l’ha mollato.
Non si sente abbastanza per riuscire a interessare un uomo e per instaurare una relazione duratura e profonda.
Poi abbiamo il professore universitario, Gage, che insegna giornalismo al college; per una parte del corso di giornalismo alternativo, ha stretto un accordo con la rivista Ashe Sentinel, per scrivere una rubrica dove raccontava le impressioni e sensazioni vissute durante le sue esperienze nuove, tutto ciò che non aveva mai fatto, questo primo articolo parlava di motociclismo e proprio così è arrivato in ospedale e ha conosciuto Ben.
Tra i due c’è subito una forte attrazione, ma mentre Gage si butta perché non vuole lasciare niente di intentato, Ben è reticente, poiché non vuole più soffrire e mettere in gioco il suo cuore.
È divertente leggere come Gage, riuscirà a coinvolgere Ben in appuntamenti che li faranno conoscere meglio, il sesso tra loro è favoloso, ma entrambi vogliono di più.
Essendo maschi esternano poco i loro dubbi e le loro insicurezze, ma per fortuna i ragazzi hanno vicino delle amiche che vogliono la loro felicità e ci mettono lo zampino.
Alex è la collega/amica di Ben e sebbene lo prenda in giro bonariamente (ogni volta che arriva un motociclista ferito, lo passa a Ben) è preoccupata che il suo amico non trovi un compagno.
Chloe, amica di Gage, è stravagante, insegna teatro al college e ha sempre accompagnato il suo amico nel locali gay, il loro rapporto è molto profondo e bellissimo. Chloe avrà comportamenti divertenti che metteranno in imbarazzo l’amico, però saprà dargli dei buoni consigli nel momento del bisogno.
Che dirvi ragazze, come vi ho già detto è bellissimo e per me una boccata d’aria fresca per lo stile dell’autrice, ora andrò a cercare altro scritto da lei.

Oggi vorrei parlarvi di “Heart Trouble” di D.J. Jamison, edito da Triskell edizioni.
Dal primo sguardo che Gage posa sul sexy infermiere Ben ne rimane affascinato e, pur soffrendo per via della sua ferite, cerca di provarci con lui.
Peccato che l’infermiere veda in lui un combina guai drogato di adrenalina e troppo simile all'ex che gli ha spezzato il cuore, e non riesce quindi ad accettare le sue attenzioni.
Ben però si sbaglia, perché Gage è solo un professore e giornalista che per rendere veritiera ed emozionante la sua rubrica si lancia in nuove esperienze.
Il destino vuole che continuino ad incontrarsi e che tra loro nasca qualcosa.
Riuscirà Ben a fidarsi nuovamente dell'amore o il suo cuore spezzato gli impedirà di farlo?
Come sempre quando vi parlo di una nuova autrice o autore mi piace parlarvi brevemente di lui o di lei. D.J. Jamison si definisce un topo da biblioteca, ha sempre voluto scrivere e ha lavorato per qualche decennio nel campo del giornalismo (ambiente a cui si è ispirata per i suoi libri).
Parlando di questo libro, una cosa che posso subito dirvi è che è molto dolce e romantico.
La trama era carina, ma non aveva particolarità, per cui mi sono lasciata trasportare dall’istinto (alias le recensioni su Goodreads) e ho deciso di leggerlo, tuttavia la serie è ambientata in ospedale e questo è sicuramente uno degli elementi che mi ha incuriosito, in quanto amo i medical drama.
Lo stile è scarno e senza fronzoli, il libro scorre bene.
Come ho anticipato, questo libro è molto dolce, come il personaggio di Gage che, col suo modo di corteggiare Ben cercando sempre di metterlo a suo agio e provando a guadagnarsi la sua fiducia, è l’esempio di come tutte le eterne sdolcinate vorrebbero che un uomo le trattasse, tutto accompagnato da uno sguardo malizioso dalle mille promesse.
Insomma, è un po' principe azzurro e un po' bad boy.
Questo è anche un libro che ci ricorda di non giudicare mai a prima vista o basandoci su una sola opinione.
La prima impressione che Ben ha di Gage è quella di un temerario motociclista, quando in realtà ha davanti un giornalista goffo.
Così come Gage vede solo la bellezza di Ben e i suoi modi affabili, senza capire che sono una maschera per non mostrare dolore e solitudine. Presto, però, la situazione cambia e i due si fanno pian piano spazio nel cuore dell'altro.
"In quel momento aveva bisogno di quella dolcezza più delle sue difese."
Ci sono delle pecche, alcune non so se dovute alla traduzione, ma altre sono legate alla costruzione della scena.
Mi sono piaciuti anche i personaggi secondari, soprattutto Zane (quando vedo cuccioli di uomo tormentati e indifesi esce la crocerossina che è in me).
Tutto sommato è un buon libro, i personaggi sono ben scritti e mi è piaciuta la costruzione del loro rapporto.
Mi lascia ben sperare per i prossimi romanzi della serie, che in futuro mi piacerebbe leggere.
Anzi, devo dire di essere parecchio curiosa, anche per via di Zane.
Spero in una sua storia, perché merita il suo lieto fine dopo tanta sofferenza.
Consiglio questo libro agli eterni romantici e a quelli per cui l'amore è la cura.

Se avete voglia di una lettura dolce e romantica e per di più sexy e non banale, questo libro fa per voi. L’autrice D.J. Jamison è riuscita infatti a creare una storia simpatica e briosa che si legge volentieri e in scioltezza grazie a una perfetta caratterizzazione dei due protagonisti, che ci conquistano per la loro dolcezza, simpatia e anche per le loro insicurezze e le loro titubanze. Al tempo stesso il libro affronta tematiche importanti come l’omofobia e la violenza domestica in maniera lieve, ma che porta comunque a riflettere. Il tutto condito con uno stile fresco e divertente proprio della commedia romantica che fa ben sperare per gli altri volumi della serie, tutti di ambito ospedaliero, che arriveranno prossimamente.
In questo primo volume conosciamo Ben, un sexy infermiere, e Gage un insegnante di giornalismo alternativo. Il loro incontro è particolare in quanto Gage finisce al pronto soccorso dopo un incidente in moto occorsogli mentre sta sperimentando una delle attività per la rubrica per cui scrive. Appena viene affidato a Ben per le cure del caso, si sente subito attratto da quell’uomo sexy e dolce e cerca in tutti i modi di conquistarlo. Da qui si dipana tutta la storia che alterna momenti divertenti, dolci e sexy a momenti più sofferti e seri.
Ben è l’infermiere perfetto che tutti vorremmo incontrare in un pronto soccorso: è simpatico professionale, dolce e molto empatico. Si prende cura dei suoi pazienti dando tutto se stesso ed è adorato dai colleghi. E’ un uomo buono e generoso e ha un gran cuore che però è stato più volte ferito dai suoi ex, che l’hanno sempre lasciato per cercare qualcosa di meglio. Proprio per questo è molto insicuro nella sfera affettiva e ha paura di aprirsi di nuovo all’amore per timore di essere ancora ferito e lasciato. Quando incontra Gage se ne sente attratto anche lui ma è molto diffidente, e quando Gage ci prova con lui inizialmente lo rifiuta in quanto crede che sia uno scavezzacollo come il suo ultimo ex. Gage però è determinato a conquistarlo perché non solo lo apprezza come professionista, ma anche perché vede in lui un uomo forte e capace di dare amore, deve solo convincerlo a fidarsi di lui. Per questo cercherà in ogni modo di creare occasioni per stare insieme e convincerlo che è degno di fiducia. Ma qui c’è un ma perché anche Gage ha le sue insicurezze e le sue paure e rischierà di buttare tutto all’aria per gelosia e paura. Ci saranno però una sua amica e un suo studente che riusciranno a fargli capire che sta sbagliando. Non vi svelo altro per non togliervi il piacere della lettura, ma spero che lo studente possa ritornare come personaggio di un prossimo volume. Eh si perché l’autrice è stata brava a caratterizzare per bene i comprimari, arricchendo così la storia.
In conclusione una bella storia che vi conquisterà per la sua briosità, la sua dolcezza e al tempo stesso il giusto tocco di conturbante sensualità e di angst che ne fanno un mix accattivante. Lo consiglio vivamente.

This is a very sweet romance that will make your heart happy! Hot nurse and slightly clumsy teacher find happiness together when they least expect it. I really enjoyed this story and totally fell for Ben and Gage. They are both very likeable guys with a real-life feel that made me really want that sweet HEA for them.
Ben is an ER nurse who’s been burned in the past. He doesn’t want a relationship, convinced that he’ll only end up hurt. Gage grew up in the foster system and hasn’t really had a good, loving relationship in his life, but when he meets Ben after a motorcycle accident he sees an opportunity with someone very special. Both men have issues with trust but agree to fun series of dates to get to know each other and when things start to get real, their tender relationship is tested.

I enjoyed this story of a nurse and a college teacher. Both have issues of trust, betrayal and abandonment. Ben is a great ER nurse - but when he finds out that Gage has been hurt in a motorcycle accident he wants nothing to do with another daredevil after his last boyfriend has dumped him. He doesn't think he's "exciting" enough to keep an adrenaline junkie interested. Gage is doing a series of activities for some newspaper articles and he keeps hurting himself. He tries to convince Ben that is not his deal - he is definitely a reckless type. Finally Ben accepts that, but he's still worried that Gage will dump him and it will hurt, so he keeps himself guarded. Gage on the other hand has his own issues with his lack of family so he tends to be clingy. Can they work things out? Add to that a situation with of Gage's students, Ben's mom, Gage's best friend Chloe and Ben's coworker Alex, and there are a lot of folks with a stake in their relationship surviving. Both guys have to figure out how to make the other comfortable and determined to risk hurt and disappointment if things don't work out. Sometimes outsiders can have more insight than the two people in the relationship ;)

Grandi problemi di cuore in questo libro, o più che altro problemi di fiducia.
Ben e Greg, due personaggi che si incontrano e si piacciono a prima vista, però... Eh sì,c’è un però.
Il passato di Ben pesa come un macigno sul suo cuore deluso e provato, tanto da comportarsi in un modo tale da tenere a distanza le persone, fino a ridursi a non avere una vita sociale, con la madre come unica confidente e amica e le persone con cui lavora.
L’incontro con Greg potrebbe essere un nuovo inizio ma lui non si fida e questo metterà a dura prova quello che potrebbe diventare un vero rapporto di amore.
Il libro ci racconta di questo tira e molla tra i due, con Ben sempre sulla difensiva e Greg che tenta di abbattere il muro che l’altro si è creato intorno.
Potrà un evento drammatico avvicinarli sul serio oppure questo rapporto in erba è destinato a rimanere tale? Lascio a voi scoprirlo.

Il libro ci racconta di questo tira e molla tra i due, con Ben sempre sulla difensiva e Greg che tenta di abbattere il muro che l’altro si è creato intorno.
Potrà un evento drammatico avvicinarli sul serio oppure questo rapporto in erba è destinato a rimanere tale? Lascio a voi scoprirlo.

I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long time. So I got super excited when I finally got around to do it.
I liked this book a lot. Gage and Ben are very lovable characters. But, and this is why it wasn’t a full five star read, Ben was a bit too much. I needed him to get out of his head a bit earlier than he did. He freaked out over and over and over and over again.
I’m not sure about the secondary character Zayne having both an abusive dad and stepdad. For me, that kind of homophobia seems a bit too much and over the top. But I guess I’ll get to know more about that in the next book.
The narration was good. A few weird pauses here and there but except that, amazing.

Ashe è un'immaginaria cittadina del Kansas, di piccole dimensioni e poco caotica, ma non priva di una certa vivacità. Intorno al suo ospedale si svolgono le vicende dei protagonisti di “Hearts and Health”, una serie di otto libri scritti dall'autrice americana DJ Jamison, che hanno il merito di combinare vicende sentimentali, uno stile frizzante, una vivace sensualità e tematiche di un certo rilievo.

“Heart Trouble”, il primo volume, ci proietta immediatamente nella movimentata vita del pronto soccorso di Ashe, in uno scenario da commedia brillante.
Ben Griggs, affascinante infermiere, si sta ancora riprendendo dalla sua recente rottura con un fidanzato motociclista poco incline a impegnarsi ed è restio a intraprendere una nuova relazione, soprattutto con un uomo amante del brivido che potrebbe ben presto stancarsi di lui. Ma quando i suoi occhi si posano su un suo paziente, il professore di giornalismo appena ricoverato per un incidente in moto, i suoi meccanismi di autodifesa iniziano lentamente a incrinarsi. Nonostante l’immediata attrazione, Ben prova a opporre resistenza in quanto l’ultima cosa che desidera è ritrovarsi coinvolto con un ragazzo spericolato.
Gage Evans ama insegnare giornalismo nel piccolo campus di Ashe, con interessanti lezioni che includono aspetti teorici e pratici in grado di coinvolgere ed entusiasmare i suoi studenti. Decide, per questo, di dare vita a una rubrica dedicata a tutte le cose che avrebbe sempre voluto provare a realizzare, attività da svolgere in prima persona per poterle poi descrivere in vari articoli della rubrica e portarle ai suoi studenti come esempio di giornalismo. Quando una di queste attività, un viaggio in moto, finisce in un incidente con diverse escoriazioni e una corsa al pronto soccorso, Gage realizza che il motociclismo non fa per lui. Nonostante ciò, l’esperienza non si rivela del tutto negativa nel momento in cui conosce l’infermiere Ben che gli presta le prime cure e da cui si sente subito attratto. Nonostante le iniziali resistenze di Ben, Gage non si arrende e cerca di convincerlo a uscire con lui.
Ho trovato davvero deliziosa e originale l’evoluzione della storia tra i due protagonisti, le resistenze di Ben che diventano sempre più fragili man mano che comprende quanto piacevole sia la compagnia del bel professore, la caparbietà di Gage, con il suo tentativo di coinvolgere l’infermiere nelle attività contemplate dalla sua rubrica, che diventano scuse per interessanti appuntamenti, e di fargli capire che non è uno spericolato, ma è disposto a fare sul serio con lui.
Ben è un personaggio con una caratterizzazione sopra le righe, volutamente esagerato nelle sue reazioni, bloccato dalla paura di un’ennesima delusione amorosa che potrebbe spezzargli il cuore e che rischia di fargli perdere un uomo come Gage, sempre più innamorato di lui. Eppure nonostante tali paure, il suo cuore inizia pian piano a prendere una direzione diversa: «L'impulso di allontanarsi e porre una distanza fra loro era lì, ma Ben lo accantonò. Per una volta voleva provare la sensazione di essere il tesoro di un altro uomo. Anche se era temporaneo. Anche se era così fragile da infrangersi più tardi. Avrebbe avuto quel ricordo, la consapevolezza che poteva succedere».
Gage è, invece, un personaggio più pacato, si rivela dolce, paziente, affabile, sarebbe disposto a tutto pur di conquistare Ben che lo ha colpito fin da subito per la gentilezza che mostra nei confronti dei suoi pazienti e di tutte le persone a cui tiene. La sua missione nell’arco di tutta la narrazione è comprendere i complessi e spesso contraddittori meccanismi della mente di Ben e adeguare di conseguenza i suoi comportamenti.
Con una scrittura frizzante e condita da una buona dose di sensualità e ironia, l’autrice ci fa sorridere ed emozionare, ci mostra l’evoluzione dei sentimenti dei due uomini alle prese con attività dagli esiti spesso esilaranti, ma che contribuiscono a rafforzare il loro legame, ci spiega i motivi che si celano dietro le reazioni dei due protagonisti: il desiderio di Gage di riscattare un’infanzia difficile, la paura di Ben, figlio amato e fortemente voluto dai suoi genitori, di sentirsi fragile di fronte alle delusioni amorose.
Un ruolo fondamentale è attribuito ai personaggi secondari, molto ben caratterizzati: Chloe, la miglior amica di Gage, esuberante e bizzarra attrice di teatro, sempre pronta a dispensare buoni consigli e prese in giro; la madre di Ben, con cui l’infermiere ha un forte legame, di grande sostegno per il figlio nelle sue vicissitudini sentimentali; lo studente Zane che con i suoi problemi trova un grande supporto nel suo professore Gage.
“Heart Trouble” è, dunque, un romanzo adorabile, una difficile ricerca di equilibrio tra sentimenti sempre più forti e una fiducia reciproca: «Perché ti amo. E non potevo andarmene, nonostante ciò che ho detto. Aspetterò che ti fidi di me. Non devi provarmi niente. Ma ti prometto che d'ora in poi io mi fiderò di te. Se è ancora quello che vuoi».

Gage is a journalism instructor at the college who normally is in no way a daredevil. However, in teaching his students about alternative journalism he is forced to go outside his comfort zone. “Alternative journalism is not fiction. There is always a basis in fact. What you’re doing is living the story…” So, he lives the story with some disastrous results when the first article is a motorcycle ride gone bad. He ends up in the hospital, where he meets Ben, the gorgeous nurse he wants to know better. Who wants absolutely nothing to do with Gage, because “I don’t date bikers.” He’s been hurt by an adrenaline junkie in the past and he isn’t taking Gage’s word for it that he actually isn’t a biker.
Ben has some deep-seated insecurities. I haven’t read the other books in the series so I missed some of the development of that but we get enough to understand why he reacts as he does. Gage is ready for a real relationship and Ben doesn’t feel worthy or trusting of anyone so that’s out. When they do end up hooking up, Ben is downright rude. “Last night was great,” he said in a dead voice.” You want to reach out to Gage and assure him everything will be okay. The man has his own insecurities to deal with and fear of rejection, but he puts himself out there.
When Gage shows up in the ER yet again, Ben reacts poorly and hurts Gage yet again with rejection. Finally catching Gage about to hurt himself AGAIN, Ben’s had it. In an effort to keep Gage from seriously hurting himself doing his article stunts, Ben agrees to do them together but they change the activities to things like karaoke. And here is finally where they make some progress. Ben takes the time to actually listen to Gage and they try to work through and around their insecurities. But of course nothing is easy. Ben really, really makes things difficult and I felt so awful for Gage. Yes, maybe he pushed a little but he never deserved Ben’s constant back and forth.
The writing is very easy and the story flows well. I felt a connection to both characters and felt they worked well together as a couple. There were times I wanted to throw things at the world because it was unfortunately unrealistic. When Gage is having trouble and Ben has to worry about homophobia if he grabs him to help him out. People should not have to live like that, and yet it happens all over.
Let’s give a shout out to Bruiser, who stepped up to the plate when Ben needed it. He’s a great secondary character (and has his own difficult history, so he fits right in). I also really liked Chloe, a loyal friend and a true to life woman. There is a side story built in with Zane, a student of Gage’s and I’m assuming the center of the next in the series. I will have to go back and check out some of the others before I get to that one. Ben and Gage’s story is a good one and I would recommend it.

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls
Sono stata combattuta nello scrivere questa recensione, ne ho lette altre riguardo questo libro e non mi sembrava parlassero dello stesso che avevo letto io. Sinceramente si tratta di una storia banale e con un coprotagonista davvero insopportabile che si crea da solo un mare di problemi e rischia di affogarci dentro. Per la prima volta non tifavo per l’happy ending, speravo che Gage rinsavisse e si cercasse qualcun altro.
Non mi piace scrivere male dei libri che mi vengono donati per una recensione, ma questa volta ho fatto davvero fatica a portare a termine questa lettura. Nulla da dire sullo stile dell’autrice che sicuramente scrive bene e in modo scorrevole, quello che proprio non è riuscito a catturarmi è la storia e, in particolare, il personaggio di Ben.
Da una parte abbiamo Gage, insegnante di giornalismo, estroverso, simpatico, gioviale e un po’ irruente. Il suo più grande difetto è che si butta nelle relazioni senza riflettere troppo sulle conseguenze e spera subito nel grande amore. Dall'altra c’è Ben, infermiere altamente insicuro e decisamente troppo condizionato dalle esperienze passate. Ben ha un ex scopamicomotociclista (notare che non avevano nemmeno una vera relazione sentimentale) che l’ha lasciato per pascoli più verdi quindi ha chiuso per sempre il proprio cuore a chiunque, soprattutto se guida una moto. Gage che è finito in ospedale proprio per una caduta in moto, l’unica e ultima volta che ne ha usata una, parte già in svantaggio e dovrà sudare sette camicie per riuscire a catturare l’attenzione di Ben. Ho trovato l’atteggiamento di Ben del tutto irrazionale, non vuole una relazione seria, ma quando ne ha una casuale sta male all’idea che finisca e che Gage possa desiderare qualcun altro quando quest'ultimo ha detto di sperare in qualcosa di più. Insomma, io non avrei avuto certamente tutta la sua pazienza nel sopportare gli atteggiamenti scostanti di Ben, per non parlare poi della sua trovata finale riguardo la madre, ma di cui preferisco non parlare per non rovinare la sorpresa.
Insomma, mi spiace, ma non posso certo dire di aver apprezzato questo libro. Una lettura leggera e, volendo, scorrevole, ma che non sono proprio riuscita a godermi a causa del fatto che Ben mi è proprio risultato un personaggio indigesto.

I read and reviewed this book when it was first released by in October 2016. I've now had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook performed by Kenneth Obi and I loved it. His performance of the book brought the story alive for me again; it was like I was reading it for the first time. His different voices made it easy to distinguish the various characters in the story.

I did a beta read of this book for the author and I loved it so much! Heart Trouble is book 6 of the Ashe Sentinel Connections series but you can read it just fine as a standalone.
Ben has been hurt in the past but loving men who didn’t love him back. He’s determined not to let that happen again so he’s hardened his heart to the point that he won’t let anyone in. Gage has also been hurt by men who told him he’s too clingy and then they leave. When Gage first sees Ben in the ER he’s attracted enough that he wants to ask him out. Ben’s attracted to Gage as well but he won’t agree to “date;” he’ll only agree to a one-night stand. And what a night it was!
This book really grabbed me and I didn’t want to put it down. I was so frustrated when I had to put it aside after chapter 3 in order to take care of personal obligations. Later that day I started back up and didn’t stop until I’d finished it.
My heart hurt for these two guys who both have insecurities when it comes to relationships. I was confident that DJ would give me my HEA but it didn’t come easy; Ben and Gage had some pretty big obstacles to overcome first.
I loved the secondary character of Zane. He had kind of a big impact on Ben and Gage’s relationship. I’d love to read his story next.
I also have to mention that DJ gave us a fantastic epilogue for Ben and Gage – a little glimpse at them 6 months later.

Sometimes someone better comes along...
When Ben was dumped by Tripp in Hard Press, it affirmed that he just was not good enough. After all, he was a late bloomer baby and adored, setting him up and proving that in the end, not everyone would love him. He was done with bikers and adrenaline junkies, they were only heart trouble after all. He decided to focus on his career as an E.R. Nurse and keep his heart guarded.
Lifting the frost and finding warmth.
Gage was a college Journalism Professor who found himself in the E.R. after failing for his art. The big, gorgeous man was immediately drawn to Ben and went out of his way to engage him. After a second trip to the E.R., Ben just knew this was not to be, but Gage was persistent. A series of dates led to what should have been the perfect relationship. Yet, there was epic failure at every turn.
Losing hope, finding faith...
These two men had fate on their side. But fear and mistrust played a major role at every turn. With good times and bad, will Ben and Gage be able to come out on the other side and achieve the desires they crave? Or will they allow the drama to fester and pull them apart?
I enjoyed this story and it's development. There was conflict, and sweet love and burn the sheets chemistry. I admired Ben and his mother's relationship; Gage's "adulting" and how he was so understanding even when he knew he was wrong. And the secondary characters, including that hellion cat and Zack were wonderful.
I encourage you to one click and sit back and allow yourself to be drawn into life, love and freedom.

Sometimes someone better comes along...
When Ben was dumped by Tripp in Hard Press, it affirmed that he just was not good enough. After all, he was a late bloomer baby and adored, setting him up and proving that in the end, not everyone would love him. He was done with bikers and adrenaline junkies, they were only heart trouble after all. He decided to focus on his career as an E.R. Nurse and keep his heart guarded.
Lifting the frost and finding warmth.
Gage was a college Journalism Professor who found himself in the E.R. after failing for his art. The big, gorgeous man was immediately drawn to Ben and went out of his way to engage him. After a second trip to the E.R., Ben just knew this was not to be, but Gage was persistent. A series of dates led to what should have been the perfect relationship. Yet, there was epic failure at every turn.
Losing hope, finding faith...
These two men had fate on their side. But fear and mistrust played a major role at every turn. With good times and bad, will Ben and Gage be able to come out on the other side and achieve the desires they crave? Or will they allow the drama to fester and pull them apart?

4,5 stelle - RECENSIONE DI SKYE
Non avevo mai letto nulla scritto dalla penna di questa autrice ma devo dire che la trama mi ha colpito subito al primo sguardo.
La storia inizia con Gage, insegnante di giornalismo alternativo, ricoverato al pronto soccorso per aver “provato” una delle attività per la rubrica per cui scrive. Qui conosce Ben, sexy infermiere a cui viene affidato il suo caso.
Gage rimane subito colpito da Ben e raccimolando una buona dose di coraggio gli chiede di uscire, ma Ben prontamente rifiuta credendo che il ragazzo sia un malato di adrenalina, proprio come il suo ex che gli ha spezzato il cuore.
Dopo qualche giorno i due si incontrano di nuovo e da qui inizia la corsa di Gage per conquistare la fiducia e il cuore di Ben.
Se la trama mi aveva colpito,il libro in sé mi ha decisamente conquistato con scene divertenti degne di una commedia romantica e con un lieve tocco di angst che lo rende dolce senza cadere nello stucchevole.
L’autrice è riuscita a caratterizzare benissimo i due protagonisti, riuscendo a far trapelare l’estremo bisogno d’amore di entrambi e il diverso modo dei due di rapportarsi e di gestire questo bisogno.
Sono molto molto curiosa di vedere lo svilupparsi di questa serie di romanzi autoconclusivi, attendendo con molta ansia i prossimi protagonisti.

This was a frustrating read for me. I did not find any fault in the writing or the flow of the story. Everything came down to the characters; well, one character in particular. Gage is a complete delight. He is kind, patient, funny and a total sweetheart. He's willing to do anything for the people he cares for and I admired his determination. Ben, on the other hand, was very hard to like. His constant insecurities, doubt, pessimism and occasional selfishness and manipulative attitude made me wonder why Gage wanted to be with him so badly. Yes, Ben is good looking and he and Gage shared a passionate sex life, but, in my opinion, that's not enough to put up with all of his baggage.
All in all, this is a nice read, but be warned, Ben will frustrate you. However, Gage and side character Zane will give you a nice, calming respite in between Ben's Debbie Downer fits.
